I contacted them to obtain an estimate for remodeling my kitchen and bathroom in my Lincoln Park condominium 5 weeks ago. My first meeting was skipped and I had to chase them down for someone to come out. The project manager eventually showed up and took a few photos then left, spending about 5 minutes at my place. I have never gotten my estimate. The work can't begin until late January due to HOA rules, but I explained to the project manager that I had to submit paperwork to the Board of Directors weeks in advance (rendering/design/proof of insurance and license) so it was crucial for me to get the estimate sooner than later I don't know if they simply can't handle more work or just aren't interested, but the professional thing to do would be to respond. I was asked by the Board to compile a list of contractors to post on our bulletin board doe all residents to see. There are over 900 people looking for contractors and Irpino's name won't be on the list now. Their loss is someone else's gain. read more

We heard about Irpino Construction from our neighbors. When our building association needed some work done, earlier this year, Irpino Construction was the first name that came up from multiple owners. We've had some bad experiences with other contractors before. We spent a lot of money to get some work done and in the end the quality is not there and we end up losing more money to get things fixed. When we finally saved up enough to get our bathroom redone, we decided to go with Irpino Construction. We were willing to pay a little more to make sure that we get the quality that we are looking for, for our investment. I contacted them via their website and Dominic got in touch right away. We managed to setup an appointment and he arrived on time the following day. It took around 30 minutes for him to look over our bathroom and for us to talk about the work that needed to be done. A couple days later he sent me an itemized list, with the cost of each task and a total for the overall work. Surprisingly, out of 4 bids, they were right in the middle. For our bathroom, Jaime and his team took care of the work. They were very respectful, efficient, and they always cleaned up everyday after they left. They kept the dust contained as much as they possibly can. The best part is that they were able to make design decisions for things that we are not knowledgeable of and things turned out great. These guys really know how to keep the quality high. The tiles were aligned, the waterproofing of the standing shower was done correctly, and the hardwares were installed the way we wanted. I'll be posting some photos with more details. Overall, we are very very happy with our new bathroom. And we're so glad to have worked with Dominic and Jaime. Quality - 3 Time Efficiency - 1 Communication - 3 Overall not positive experience. I felt like a number and they just wanted to do it as cheap as possible. The contractor seemed like he was doing 100 jobs and therefore not really worried about mine. They drilled holes in my drawers in the wrong place and then they had to patch them up. Holes in my kitchen! The thing I'm trying to fix, not break! Was overall disappointed with the service and time it took to complete the project. What should have been a fairly straight forward kitchen reface took months to complete. It took more than double the time it should have. The contractor was dragging his feet. There were days when they would only be there for a couple hours. Other days they just wouldn't show up. Had they of been there for a full day every day (when possible, baring things needing to dry etc.) the just could have been done much faster. In regards to the quality, I constantly had to ask them to fix things that just just installed, wether it be just improper install or just leaving a mess. I chose this place because I thought they were a cut above the rest, I was wrong. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Irpino Construction is great! I bought a condo last month. I knew I wanted to re-do the bathroom after I bought it so I shopped around and the ALL 5 STAR reviews led me Irpino Construction. I emailed back and forth with Dominic a few times to let him know I'd like to have him do an estimate once I got settled in. We set an appointment to have him come by. Unfortunately, my downstairs neighbor said my bathroom was leaking into his bathroom so it turned into a more emergent matter. I had 2 other plumbers come out and give me estimates on just REPAIRING the leak issue before Dominic's appointment. Dominic showed up for the appointment and took a quick look and gave me an on the spot estimate for completely RE-DOing the shower with new tile and REPAIRING the leak issue and small additional plumbing work. His estimate was MORE THAN REASONABLE (one of the other plumbers wanted almost HALF of what Dominic's estimate was and they weren't even going to re-do my shower---JUST THE PLUMBING WORK) and I asked him to start work right away. He had his partner Jaime come in and verify when work could be completed and here I am less than a week later with a brand new shower with no leak. I got to pick out the tiles myself from a huge inventory at Mosaicos over on North + Pulaski. I am so happy with Irpino Construction and glad I could provide another glowing review. read more

When my husband and I decided to tear down the covered deck that was taking up the whole backyard, I was dreading the whole idea of finding a contractor. The whole nightmare of getting jerked around and having your money taken for a job NOT well done is scary (I know, I know... I think I watched a little too much Holmes on Homes). Anyway, out of all the contractors that came by or called and never came by OR called but never got a call back, Dominic followed through. He is very good about getting back to you as soon as he can (this guy is booked to his nostrils). And... If you're an OCD freak like me, he's very, VERY patient. This is hard to find in any industry. The planning process took the longest but it was because my husband and I took a while with deciding on what we wanted exactly. Then once we signed that contract, the ball was rolling fast! On day 1, they demolished the entire covered deck and hauled everything away!!! This thing was huge, had electrical wiring AND a gas line for the grill. Amazing. Then, within a week, we had a new smaller deck, stairs at the back door, and... a backyard!?!! Who knew?! Now, we just need to figure out phase 2... sod? concrete? pavers? Dominic Irpino might be the most professional contractor I have ever used, and I have seen my share. Dominic and Jaime undertook a basement bathroom renovation after I had started the project, and gotten 1/3 way through a challenging tiling job when my son was born. Irpino completed the work in 3 days, including rescuing my poor, half-finished tiling job in the shower enclosure and floor, installing an IKEA vanity over a troublesome drain, installing the toilet, patching and painting some beat up walls, and sealing and caulking. The workmanship was very good, and Irpino returned twice to deal with some minor issues regarding the caulk. Our next project will be the master bathroom, and I won't even bother with getting involved because Irpino will get it done for a very reasonable price. read more

Our subfloor was rotten, soft, and unrepairable which was a disaster for our floor. We also had a plumbing issue that Jaime made us aware of. Dominic came to our home and provided a quote on the spot. He was professional, friendly, and gave us options to consider for our remodel. We had a certain budget to work with since we are expecting a little one soon. He took this into consideration and worked with our budget and time frame to get the work completed. The work: My wife and I recently bought a place that needed significant renovations. I reached out to Irpino Construction who I had used in the past on smaller projects to do this larger project. The project took them one and a half months and included installing new hardwood, painting, re-doing a basement bedroom (including walls), changing windows / doors, electric work, fixing basement leaks, installing new lighting systems, redid a bedroom on the second floor (moved the wall and the door), covered an opening that connected the first and second floor and the list goes on and on. The project manager was Vinicio. The review: my wife and I do not have a lot of spare time to take care of details or decide on designs. We were lucky enough to have Vinicio as the project manager. That guy is a machine. He works hard and smart and produces high quality work. He is detailed oriented and is strategic in his approach. He is not task oriented - rather he is proactive. For example, I told him what I wanted in the basement bedroom. I only knew that I wanted the ceiling to be higher. I turns out that as part of the process he identified several problems with that bedroom (including leaks) which he immediately addressed with me and proposed solutions. He is autonomous and does not require baby-sitting. We always asked for his input and he provided valuable insight. One thing that we really valued was communication: we communicated in person but a lot of times it was through text messages. He would reply in a matter of seconds. Vinicio's crew was also outstanding and have the same qualities as Vinicio. Finally, Vinicio and his crew are clean and organized. Every day before leaving they spent time cleaning after them. Conclusion: in my experience, renovations are generally stressful and frustrating. Irpino Construction made it as easy as it gets for us. There is not one single thing I would complain about or that they would need to improve on. It was really a pleasure working with them and if we ever do anything else, we will certainly reach out to them again. I can't speak to the quality of their work, because like some other reviews here, Dominic came out to provide us an estimate, said he would send a written estimate in a few days and then was never heard from again. I even sent a follow up email a week later, but no response. The project was not a large one, and I can understand the need for contractors to prioritize resources in the most profitable way, but I can handle hearing that, what is unprofessional to me is the lack of any follow up. Unfortunately, this seems like a fairly common practice in the world of contractors. Irpino gets a perfect review from me. We found out that the dry wall behind our shower tiles was completely rotten and we needed everything replaced, and called Irpino for an estimate. They responded immediately after we asked for an estimate (we reached out to several companies in Chicago, and most didn't get back to us for several days), and started the work next day. The workers were great: clean, polite and worked really hard. Dominic came out for the estimate and knew his stuff, and even offered suggestions that we hadn't considered, including raising the shower head for my tall husband. I initially hired the least expensive contractor against my gut instinct, and ran into all sorts of issues including some really poor work and a bunch of extras. I wound up firing the 1st guy and calling Dominic. Dominic came in and finished the job and really rescued me. I can't say enough about the high caliber of the work, and professionalism of Dominic and his team. I really learned my lesson that the cheapest is not always the best and will only work with Dominic going forward. I needed 2 bedroom walls removed and replaced, painting all but 2 rooms, and removing and replacing my deck. He was on time, professional, competitive bid, and a nice guy. I received the quote for the work in a couple of days, which was right as he said it would be. However I had some issues with my condo association and needed to delay the work 2-3 weeks while we got everything straightened out there. This company is nothing short of amazing. Design: I hated my 19' x 6' master bath. Using the walk-in shower was becoming increasingly unsafe because the door stuck and there was a big curb. There was a big jacuzzi we never used and there were what looked like a lot of cabinets, but no storage space. The kicker -- I had a totally unrealistic budget for what I wanted. Dominic prepared a proposal that would give me a basic bathroom that would have met my budget. Then there was the list of all the goodies I wanted and a price for each one. So, I blew my budget and got it all -- I could have had a nice bathroom in my budget, but I got a spectacular one instead. The people: There was Dominic, the owner and sales person, Jaime, the crew chief, and a bunch of workers who all had different specialty areas. Every morning, the person who did what was needed next showed up. Jaimie was there at least once a day checking up. And Dominic called every day and stopped by a lot to answer any questions and check on the work. No matter what we asked, Dominic's answer was "Not a problem. We'll take care of it." Including when the shut off valve fell apart when they tried to turn off the water. Or picking the wrong color paint. Or making sure everything that nothing was out of easy reach.
