We got estimates from a few different contractors for built-ins in our condo. Bar space, wine racks, cabinets and two WFH desks. We needed extra storage space and functionality in prep for our firstborn son. The Wade Bros were slightly more expensive than the other bidders, but we went with them because we could tell from that very first convo that they weren't viewing the project as just another job like some of the others, these guys were craftsman with that attention to detail and pride in their work that's hard to find these days. READ THIS REVIEW BEOFRE HIRING WADE BROTHERS FOR ANYTHING. This review could save you time and money and would have certainly helped me. I hired Wade Bros to add a wall extension to a finished cabinet I have had for several years. I will say that Brian and Mike are very nice guys. This is strictly about the quality of work on my project. And since this is the first time someone from Yelp has backfired i felt obligated to share my story. I will be sticking to as many facts as possible in anticipation of claims of creative differences. I have broken this down by categories that are most relevant: Communication: None to speak of. After giving my 50% deposit i waited months and only heard from Brian to ask for more delays. After the initial meeting, not a single word or progress report about my project. This was a sign of things to come. Visible Screws on the finished cabinet: There are actual visible screws all over the finished media cabinet. I have never seen something like this before. I included pictures (zoomed and normal) to give a good view. This of course is, for me, completely unacceptable on finished millwork surfaces. Top Cap on cabinet: This was immediately caught and discussed onsite. The pictures say it all (again zoomed and normal) I have nothing to add here except for how awful this looks to me as a finished top/edge. This is literally and figuratively the very definition of cutting corners. Also, with the top cap-- the grain pattern and awful finish just looks horrible from a top view. Seams and Gaps: I have included left and right photos of seams and gaps. There are all sorts of variations with uneven gaps. And as you run you hand across a seam it is either raised some, even some or depressed---all along the same seam. Speaker Grills: The speaker grills I had to remove to route the cables back in for the speakers. I could not re-align the pegs again to pop the grills back in.  Some of the pegs even began to fall off while trying to put the grill back on. The peg system worked great for the original lower cabinet grills but not so for the large upper ones. At one point we discussed magnets and instead the plan just changed. Stain Finish While the stain/color matches the lower cabinet reasonably well in color---it just has a very dull appearance, especially in the daylight. It almost resembles a chalkboard. Im not even sure if this is stained, painted or other--but after installation it looks just bland and awful. Hopefully you read this entire review and viewed the photos of my project. I unfortunately will now have to pay someone to redo all the finished surfaces--i did indeed pay the Wade Bros in full and essentially have nothing but a frame to show for it. If you do decide to hire them beware the '50% deposit for months away booking' thing or find some deal to protect yourself. Also insist on pre-install meetings, samples and some kind of drawings. They will improvise like on my project and not consult you. ADDED: I should also add that i gave this similar punch list of concerns to Wade Bros and the option to make good on work they were fully paid for. I did say that i fully understood if they just walked away as it seems they're really over extended. I reached to Mike after ordering to clarify the shipping time and he got back to me immediately with a detailed answer. He followed up again when he shipped the item. The box was packaged with care. The cutting board is beautiful and makes a great gift. I got it for my brother's wedding present but my parents fell in love with it so I gave it to them instead. We worked on a project with the Wade Brothers involving bookshelves and cabinetry for the front room of our condo. They were very professional and good to work with. They kept us abreast of things all the way up through the day of installation. They met every benchmark, including the date of installation. With some companies, one person comes in to do the sales and measurements and another person does the installation. What we liked about the Wade Brothers is they take ownership of the whole project - the measurements, the design, installation, etc. They are expert craftsmen. We hired Wade Brothers to design, build and install custom cabinets for our extremely irregular basement. It required building around gas meters, lines, concrete and more. We could not be more pleased with the creativity, thoughtfulness and workmanship that the Wade Brothers brought to this project. I hired the Wade Brothers for a construction job on my mother's house. They were extremely professional and came out to her house and gave me an estimate for the project free of charge. They patiently listened to what we needed done and knew right away how to complete the job. Other contractors came out to look at the project and charged for their estimate; which was considerably higher than the Wade Brothers even though the project was exactly the same. The Wade brothers were fast in completing the project and the quality of the work done was excellent. I told them I wanted to keep costs down and they fit their estimate to also fit my budget. They did really good work on a pretty major project building a loft bedroom with custom staircase in our house. They built it partially with plans and partially without which was a challenge we gave them due to our situation. The structure is built like a tank and very sturdy. I was impressed not only with their work but with their intangibles: Good communication, cleaned up the work site (it was in our house with 3 kids that would be home every evening), and were creative in problem solving for some of the custom finish work. My husband and I needed an Armoire to be made for our new baby room in order to cover up an outlet that was high up on our wall. It was where we have our internet, so there were a million cords that needed some hiding! After sending over some ideas of what we were looking for, Mike Wade come to our home and took measurements. Within a week we had a quote and an idea of what he was thinking would best fit the room. As someone who does NOT have the expertise in this field, I really appreciated the way that he was able to help me picture what might fit best in the space and provide the esthetic we were looking for. We were able to have everything built and delivered in one month and it is absolutely PERFECT for the space! Not to mention, all of this took place during COVID-19 and both during the measurement visit and the drop off visit, all precautions were taken to maintain a healthy and safe distance. They even made sure it was secured to the wall and then cleaned everything up before leaving!! We are so happy with the end result and could not recommend these guys any more!!! This is a late review from an attempted collaboration in late 2020/early 2021. I went back and forth on publishing a negative review but after much reflection, I would proceed with hiring Wade Bros with caution. We had great initial communication for a custom built in bar and custom built in entertainment center. However, their attention to detail (in both scope and financials) and the quality of their plans (rudimentary and really not better that what was provided to them by us with our own sketches) left a lot to be desired. From there, they were having trouble getting the entertainment center drawn to specification in a structurally sound manner. We requested to proceed with the bar portion of the project while awaiting finalizing plans for the entertainment center. At that point, Wade Brothers said our project was too small dropped the project without refunding our deposit. Their portfolio is lovely but again, would proceed with caution based on our experience. read more

My wife and I recently moved into a new place in Logan Square/Humboldt Park and were looking for recommendations for carpenters to build out a storage closet in our finished basement. The Wade Brothers (both of them) came to our new house the day of our inspection and listened to our ideas and the pros and cons of both. Within a week we had a quote for all the work that would be done and it was right in our price range. When they showed up to start the job, we trusted them enough to give them the keys to our house and to come and go when they needed to. They told us it would take five days to complete and it was done in 3.5 days. The work they did was EXACTLY what we asked and EXACTLY what the quote was for. They were extremely responsive, kept me up to date on the progress at their shop, and were extremely customer focused by allowing me to make some adjustments throughout the project.
