Mike and his team are spectacular! We've worked together on half a dozen projects over the past 8 years since we met and he's always delivered an impeccable result. In addition to having a very friendly, flexible, respectful, and responsible crew, his team's work in incredible! I won't have anyone else work on projects that matter to me around the house. These people are seriously talented. Mike is also a stand up guy. He delivers what he promises and he's honest with his pricing. He's also very flexible and reasonable as plans adjust mid job. It's not too much to say these guys are magicians. I'm so happy I found them. It's made my life so much less stressful. I know the work is going to get done to my very high standards AND I don't have to manage or oversee them at all. I'll pop in once in a while or ask Mike to share pics...but I always know I'm going to like what I see. Working with a contractor I trust makes all the difference for us. We needed our deck replaced, so our landscaper recommended Carpentry by Michael. We contacted Michael to discuss our plans and cost. Michael provided us the opportunity to view a deck that he had just finished, and the quality of work looked good, so we contracted with Michael to replace our deck. The pricing Michael provided was reasonable, which allowed us to expand on the features of our new deck. The results far exceeded our expectations. Michael's team provide great craftsmanship and a customer friendly approach for making changes. His team kept a very clean job site and were very timely with their work. Since the deck replacement, we have used Carpentry by Michael for two additional home improvement projects. One was a complete replacement of our fireplace facade and mantle, and the second project was a remodeling of our master bathroom. We are pleased with the outcome of both of these projects. Michael and his team were absolutely fantastic! We could not be happier with the work they've done, and how incredibly fast - we were so impressed. Being in business for 30 years really shows.The crew was very professional, friendly, and just a great bunch of guys. My wife's Dad was a builder/carpenter, so we had pretty high standards. We could tell from the website (and work we'd seen at a neighbors) that Mike prides himself on craftsmanship. But we were so surprised by how many people in our neighborhood have come to compliment our fence! It's added lots of value to our house and we have a huge sense of pride in our house, and are excited about the transformation! I would highly recommend him without a doubt. Don't work with this businessman! We contracted with Mike Coletto to do a full gut rehab and addition. What a mistake! His work was erratic and he did not monitor his workers or subcontractors well. There are so many examples: floors and ceilings aren't level, windows were installed incorrectly, re-installed and some are still not level, heating and plumbing were installed poorly (our kitchen sink backed up badly after only 5 months of light use), interior trim was not caulked and is separating from the walls, kitchen cabinets are not level or plumb, etc. Mike has his own design ideas and doesn't particularly like working with architects. He told us, 6 months into the job, that he had never intended to build our front porch according to the contracted construction drawings, instead showing us a porch that he had built for someone else. We promptly made every payment Michael Coletto requested, even though we were concerned that he hadn't even started certain items at the 6 month mark (the job was to last 8 months). We just wanted our home done - but by 10 months, we had paid 85% of the contract and there was far more than 15% of the work to be completed. Mike yelled at us and demanded more money. However, based on the quality of work, the re-work that needed to be done, the fact that our AC units weren't on site, our kitchen appliances weren't installed, we had no gutters, etc., we told Mike we would make no further payments until specific items were completed in the next week. Mike agreed to this, but he did not complete those items and did no work for two days. We refused to pay for incomplete work and he walked off, saying he would not complete our contract because he was bankrupt. He left a huge construction mess and debris that cost us thousands to remove. Throughout the job Michael Coletto signed Waivers of Lien for our payments, but when he left we found out that he had not paid subcontractors. He didn't pay materials suppliers either, and now our house has been liened. Michael Coletto used our address to purchase materials that were not used in our home, so that supplier wants money from us. Mike even told our neighbors we had not paid him for his work! A month after he walked off of our job, saying he was broke and couldn't pay his workers, Michael Coletto started a new company, Michael's Home Services, with two divisions, Carpentry by Michael and Michael's Kitchens and Baths. About two weeks after that, he filed for bankruptcy for the first company, Michael's Carpentry, leaving us and others with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of his debts. His bankruptcy gives him a "fresh start", but meanwhile, our house is unfinished, our title is muddied by liens and we have been pursued by collection agencies for Michael Coletto's contracts. It is 8 months later and we are still finding construction problems and struggling to finish the work ourselves. Michael Coletto's bankruptcy and bad work has cost us more than $70,000 and we still have work that has to be re-done or simply completed. Be forewarned if you work with Michael Coletto! read more

Mike Coletto has worked for me on two different properties in Chicago, the second one in stages over 12 years. He just did a complete gut rehab of my stepdaughter's entire first floor. It is GORGEOUS! All his work has been perfect. He does have his own design ideas and they are excellent! I told my stepdaughter before she hired him that my only regret working with Mike was when I did NOT take his suggestions. I've known his work for 15 years and know other people who have used him and everyone has been perfectly happy with him. We're waiting right now for a bid from him to do built-ins on each side of our fireplace. He gutted our kitchen and has redone 3 bathrooms for me in 2 different homes. Michael Coletto and his team replaced our front doors. We live in an 128 year old house and have spent the last few years restoring and renovating it. The doors are not the standard sized doors of today and we had a difficult time finding skilled resources who could help advise us on the best way to restore the doors appropriately. Michael came highly recommended from friends. He worked closely with both my husband and myself as well as the door manufacturer to get a new door built for us and to restore one of the existing doors so the two looked as similar as possible. Michael and his team were conscientious and detailed in adjusting the doors to fit as well as staining them a beautiful ebony color. They moved furniture as needed and put it back when they were done. Our new doors are absolutely gorgeous and we look forward to working with Michael again. read more
