Like many of the converted condos in the West Loop, we had a 3/4 wall for the second bedroom. In order to make it more rentable we wanted to finish the wall - but knew that the uneven beams pipes, and sprinkler placement, would be a challenge. My wife and I recently relocated back to Chicago from Houston. While we were waiting to close I started researching contractors because we knew we had some updates we wanted to do in our new place. I came across MWW Painting and emailed them. Mike responded quickly to my inquiry. From Houston, I explained the updates we wanted to have done and also sent him the listing pics/floor plan for our condo. He gave us a sight unseen preliminary quote for refinishing the hardwood floors, painting the kitchen cabinets along with the island and a buffet, re-tiling the fireplace surround, and adding a brick tile veneer to an entire wall. We were pleased with the quote he sent us. The day we closed on our condo, Mike came to physically see the unit. We then gave him a key and garage opener so he can access the building while we were back in Houston packing. We also added some addition projects. I searched for a competent licensed general contractor for months with no luck. I took meetings with about 8 different general contractors and companies and was unimpressed by either their poor responsiveness, or the lack of detail in their quotes... that was until I met with Mike W from MWW Painting. Don't let the name fool you, this is a full-service (professional) general contractor. This was no small job - my vision basically called for ripping out every wall in a Chicago high-rise and relocating a bathroom, expanding a kitchen to 3x the original area, new electrical, copper plumbing, the works! Did I mention all of this took place in a high-rise? Moving toilets and bathtubs in a single-family home is hard enough - in a High-rise, it's practically unheard of! Mike and his crew made things extremely simple, they took this ambitious vision and were extremely patient as I planned out every detail with the architect, building engineer and the City. MWW also gave me a very reasonable quote and didn't play any games. Once I decided how to move forward they were extremely collaborative in the process. I met Mike half a dozen times at the condo before we started. He provided personal advice based on his experience throughout the project, which proved really helpful. Once they started construction, the process went really smooth. His guys showed up every day consistently and on time. The workmen were friendly, reliable, punctual and skilled. They put down floor protection and kept the jobsite as clean as possible. They gave me plenty of time to inspect the work in process, and touched up anything I noticed. Mike personally stopped by practically every day to check on things and was super responsive on the phone. When they ran into an issue they never took the easy/less expensive route...even if it meant negatively impacting their bottom line. Above and beyond is an understatement. They did it all: rough framing for walls, all new electrical, plumbing, drywall, finish carpentry, paint and wall paper. My husband and I were looking to update our cabinets and replace our kitchen sink. Mike was great and very timely when he came by our place to provide the initial estimates. The estimates provided were fair and less than others that we had received. Now for the cabinets, they look amazing! I cannot recommend Mike and his team enough! We replaced our stair railing to make it safe for a very curious toddler, and the woodworker who did the railing did not do the finishing work (which we knew going into it). I reached out to three different paint companies as well as two floor-refinishing companies for quotes to stain the stair railing to match our floors - most of the floor staining companies seemed a little overwhelmed with the details of the project and some of the painters were concerned with being able to match our current floor stain color (a mix of 50% antique brown and 50% gray). Not Mike - we could tell that he had experience with work like this before and he asked all the right questions (down to what times his team could be there, and if we knew the brand of the stain used on our floors so he could match it). They even repaired the drywall around the staircase that was damaged during the railing demolition and subsequent installation. His team did a great job, and I would definitely recommend them! I'm pretty sure my house and floors were cleaner when I came back at the end of the day than when I left for work. His team was professional, always on time, and communicative throughout the whole process. read more

I can't say enough good things about Mike and his team. He's busy that is for sure and I know why. We had a second bedroom that hadn't been touched since the original construction of the building about 15 years ago. Concrete ceilings made the hope of adding molding dim. I got a hold of Mike several years ago and he did an awesome job (previous review), so I knew he was up for it. We needed the second bedroom to have a make over. We chose the touches. We wanted crown and accent moulding to run the room as well as baseboards. The job also included fixing up the walls and a new paint job. We sent our design to Mike and within a few weeks we were able to start. His men were prompt and smart. Do not be afraid to contact Mike with any questions or concerns. I met his guys the first day and gave them keys and helped arrange parking for the job. Depending on your building/house, it's important that you set up access with your doorman and set everyone's expectations. After that, his men worked self sufficiently without any issues. A few questions here and there but nothing major. I had no interruptions with my work schedule or my wife's. The room turned out magnificent. I requested laminate floor installation in the bedroom, new base moulding installation, and cabinet painting. Michal and his team are professional and on time with work. He was able to procure an insurance sheet listing my condo association as covered, quickly, also following the myriad of contractor rules at my Gold Coast condo. They definatelty have experience with high rise buildings. Michal emailed me PDF estimates of the work cost and stayed true to the price. The final price was never over the estimate. Perhaps they do great work, but I will never know. The quote process was like pulling teeth. For the quote was ever made, I let Michael know that I needed a quote for painting, a quote for crown molding in the front part of the home, and the quote for crown molding in the bedroom. I would then decide which areas, if not all, we would do. Five days later, the quote came in, wrong. Five more days passed before it came in, still not totally correct. Painting was always lumped in with the crown molding. If it needs to be that way, I'm not sure why that wasn't discussed in the in-home visit. I made it very clear that the crown molding was something I was considering, but only the painting was definitely happening. Never responded to my last message asking when we could schedule. Meanwhile, received quotes same-day from two other vendors, one before they even left. They got the job. Managing a home renovation is tough. Just getting quotes shouldn't be like pulling teeth. read more

I had MWW repaint my entire condo, which they were able to complete in two days with two painters. I used a lot of different colors (nine if you count the trim), and was switching from white, so all walls required at least two coats, which MWW was happy to do. They used the paint I requested and their estimates were spot on as far as the amount of paint needed. They also took a TV mount off the wall for me and patched the drywall so I can't tell there was ever anything there. The painters Mike used were both friendly and did everything they could to accommodate me working from home while they were there. Perhaps the best thing about MWW was the price. Their estimate (which they stuck to) was over $1,000 lower than some other companies. I do not post reviews often, but MWW calls for one. Living in Chicago can pose challenges when looking for dependable, trustworthy, reasonable and skilled painters/plumbers/electricians, etc. If you are planning on hiring a crew to paint, and you do not contact Mike first, you are wasting your time, money and the quality of work will suffer. MIke and his team had our family room, kitchen, and long hallway finished in just under 2 days. We were 'displaced' for only one night (Furniture under plastic wrap), and now the condo looks amazing. Oh, they were on time both days as well. We bought the paint, 5 gallons and had 1/2 a gallon left over. They cleaned up and left the place exactly how we had it. They also put our TV back up on the mount and re-connected the cable. I would email him for a quote, include as much detail as possible, (I included a link to our unit layout). I have had MWW Painting do several jobs for me now. The thing that stands out for me is that they will try, try again and get it right. I often see contractors working to get the work done Mike and the whole crew will work to get it right. They are clean and clean up after themselves. They are polite and if you hire them to work in a condo association or area where other people will see them they are clean, uniformed and presentable so there is no safety concerns. The work gets done to 100% I have had them refinish wood trim and doors, paint walls and railings, do trim work/ replace a door, install wallpaper and several other handy man tasks. The price is always the same as the quoted price (I do not haggle because I want all workers to get paid for the work they do and not resent the work.) I didn't have paint left over that was the same color as my walls or the exact color of the ceiling.
