Imagine coming home for the new year and seeing your kitchen "raining." What a way to start 2025. I definitely underestimated how slow water damage is until what I thought was a very small leak from my upstairs neighbor grew from a 1/4-centimeter gap to over 3 inches. I remembered how much I liked Adrian when he fixed our screen door locks and painted our exterior doors, but I didn't think Lookswell Painting did any kind of mounting or cabinet repairs. After an exhausting amount of estimates and insurance calls, I finally contacted them thinking, "The worst they can tell me is 'no.'" To my delight, they agreed to investigate my cabinet sagging and the water damage. (As luck would have it, my over-the-range microwave survived and had no damage at all.) Instead of Adrian, Guillermo showed up, who was friendly, informative and easy to work with. We did have a hiccup with the microwave, which ended up being broken during the remount. That is the only reason I'm not giving this a five-star review. For consumers, I STRONGLY recommend filming and showing your electronic appliances work BEFORE any contractor arrives. It's difficult to prove that an appliance used to work (especially during a water damage repair) when it stops working mid-job. Couple other critiques were that the microwave doors were out of alignment and one set of cabinet doors was put in upside down. Although Jim (the owner) is absolutely NOT a people person and could've made a bad situation much much much worse, I respect that Guillermo was reasonably cool and Anthony (office manager) was professional and polite too. To Jim's credit, he did offer a happy medium with the microwave that my insurance would cover. I was relieved when Guillermo returned with Angel because this was a two-person job in the first place and over-the-range microwaves are heavy. Although it was obvious that Guillermo was not nearly as enthused be there the second time around, he and Angel did the job that needed to be done. He also tested and photographed the microwave remount and made sure I did too. I've walked past my kitchen and smile every time I see that the cabinet and microwave are fixed. Family came over for my birthday and also complimented the work this week. Even through the hiccups, I would still say this is a job well done and would continue to recommend them to others since 2020. While I wish it could've been a smooth repair the way the other one was, life happens. I still respect this company's work. read more

Fernando came to give us an estimate for repainting some kitchen cabinets. We were only have 1/2 the kitchen done. I showed him which half. He counted how many drawers and how many doors. It was pretty simple to seewhich side of kitchen cabinets we wanted done, it's sort of a galley kitchen. We had a conversation about which ones. I showed him which ones. When the estimate came back, the drawer and door count was wrong. Not sure how someone can't count! He had in the estimate 6 more doors and was short 4 drawers. Had to had someone else come back to count. That guy was 20 minutes late and never apologized. Surprised they have an A+ rating. read more

We had all the trim, windows, doors painted on our brick worker's cottage. Fernando, Guillermo, Juan, and others were all very professional and easy to work with. They also repaired some decorative trim work and stripped the iron wrought front railings of rust and repainted. There were a couple of minor corrections that I'd asked for. They were very responsive and took care of everything. All the work was carefully done with no mess and the house looks great. it was a relief to be able to work with such a great crew. Yes, in 2025, there is sticker shock when getting your place professionally painted. I got three quotes and am so glad that I went with Lookswell painting. Ok, yes the place looks amazing and they were professional, and on time, but more so because of the customer service that I got. Before moving into my loft, I decided to paint the entire place a shade of white. I was obsessing over the shade. I have made paint mistakes before and honestly, the condo was already a shade of white and I was really worried that it would look too similar (and if felt too dark). I went to SW, got a free consult with someone, got those little squares - basically making myself nuts. Eventually, I chose a color, sent it to Lookswell. All of this being out of town. But, it wasn't feeling right, so two days before my scheduled paint job, right after I closed and got to town, I called and talked to Anthony, who was super nice and said that Fernanda would meet me at the condo to talk it through the next day. This saved me. Fernando was so amazing. He spent a long time with me talking about it and in the middle of the conversation, decided to go to SW and pick up some samples. He then came back and painted squares all over the condo doing comparisons. In the end, I chose my original color but at the lighter version (75%) and it looks amazing. I am so happy with it. Fernanda was outstanding - and I ended up adding on closets and it all came in on time. read more

Can I give Lookswell 10 stars? After September's super-cell storm flooded my downstairs den, I had to hire someone to take care of the drywall/painting work. Fernando - who came out for the quote - could not have been kinder nor be more professional. So much so, that I assumed Lookswell would be a the high end. Unfortunately, all did not continue to go well. I had to call them back out twice to fix my cracked/peeling bathroom ceiling; but I did hire them again, this time to paint my kitchen. The kitchen paint job is good, but they left a mess: dust bunnies on the floor from where they moved my fridge, some paint on my cupboard and after apparently trying to open my window, I had to put my blinds back in place. New to the city and really meticulous, I was starting over w/ my list of trusted contractors. I found Lookswell Painting on Yelp, and after going through the "estimate process" with highly-rated painters in all price ranges it was an EASY CHOICE to go with Jim and the Lookswell team - they're worth every dollar. I could tell he cared about the quality of work he could do in my home, and he would oversee every step of project management so I didn't have to worry or coordinate anything. The estimate was also emailed in a very timely manner, followed by a confirmation phone call. They were also flexible to use my choice of paint - in this case PPG. The team arrived promptly Monday morning and got to work measuring for paint quantities, laying drop-cloths, and taping off ceilings, cabinets, etc. My project included patch work on the walls and wood fireplace (you can't even tell there were holes!!), removal of wallpaper (nice smooth walls now!), repaint of ceiling, trim, doors, and walls for a two-bedroom condo downtown. At the end of each day the workers cleaned up and put things back in place. At the end of the job, the team replaced all window screens and rehung window treatments too. All-in-all, Lookswell finished within the estimated cost and time frame, and with smiles on their faces. I recommend not only their quality of work and cost, but also the fantastic experience for any homeowner. My movers, dog walkers, friends, and family are very impressed by the finished product. I even had a few people climbing around to get a better look at areas where different colors touch. We called one morning and Frank stopped by that afternoon to see what was required. He looked over everything in detail and wrote up a proposal on the spot. This surprised my wife and I because we have had many painting estimates done over the years and no one has committed to a proposal in less than a week. Frank and his crew showed up as scheduled, on time every morning and spent 6 days on the project. Every room in a 2 story townhouse was painted. This included removal of wallpaper from 3 bathrooms and painting of those bathrooms as well. The work was done on time as planned. I signed a 1500usd contract to get a ceiling taken down and put up again to fix my AC. I paid a 750 down payment, and a guy came and did a great job taking the ceiling down in about 30 minutes. The AC was delayed 3 weeks and once it came and was installed I contacted Lookwell again. Unfortunately I got a very rude response and I quote " we will not do the job due to the delay. If your attorney feels the need to contact us, please make sure all mailings go by certified mail ".. WOW!! I got very irritated that they just robbed me of 750usd. I decided not to go to court since anything under 2k is not worth going to court for. Fortunately they were over charging me and I found someone to do the whole job for 824usd..;. Extremely pleased with the job these guys did. I'm moving into a new place and wanted the ceiling, walls, and trim repainted. They were able to give me a quote based upon supplying a floor plan and many pictures and which brand/line of paint I wanted to use. Their quote was not the cheapest I received, but by no means near the most expensive. I had a few phone calls with Jim to clarify what the job entailed. We agreed to a date and time. Frank showed up promptly with a few guys. We went over the colors I wanted and where they were to go. Lookswell was able to add more workers and the job got done in 3 days, which was less than the 5 days that was originally estimated. I stopped by a couple of times and could see that they were meticulous about covering every single ground surface, counters, and light fixtures. Also, they had removed every electrical and switch plate. They had also removed every extra nail and patched and sanded every hole and preexisting blemishes. The new paint looks awesome. Lookswell was recommended to us by friends and we had our place painted by them a little over a week ago. They did a fabulous job with both the drywall repairs and the painting. Our place is challenging because it's not just four walls and a ceiling --there are multiple angles and extremely high locations in narrow stairwells and we used two colors along with a white ceiling. They painted our master bedroom, living room and stairways. It was a three guy crew for two days (plus a few extra hours). They arrived on the day I scheduled at the time I scheduled (8am). They are polite and paid attention to details (asked which nails I wanted to keep etc). They made the process manageable even with our two toddlers living in the house. The quote came in an email in a clear document. The head Frank came by on the first day of the painting just to check in. Louis worked a few extra hours on Saturday instead of rushing the job on Friday. We had our condo painted by Jim's team about a week ago, and we couldn't be more thrilled. If you're looking for an honest, quality painter, who gets the job done fast and on time, this is it. Before we took possession of the property, I requested bids from about 5 highly reputable painters (as noted on Angie's List), and all came back within about $200-300. Jim (owner), looked through my photos and wrote up a detailed estimate, including the paints his crew would apply (important, make sure you ask about this!). I selected Lookswell because of the high level of professionalism during the bid process. The day after we closed on the property, Jim and his crew were ready to go. They said they'd arrive at 8am on Saturday, and they were all ready to go by 7:45am! They nearly beat us to the home! How's that for punctuality! Jim, my fiance, and I walked through the property and selected our colors. Meanwhile, Jim had his crew ready at the paint store to start buying so they could get going right away. Very impressive. We expected Saturday to be mostly a walkthrough and perhaps a little prepwork. We were blown away when Jim's crew (about 5 guys) immediately started getting to work and had almost half the place painted (about 2200 sq ft total) by the end of the day. I should also note how much Jim's crew invested in prepwork. Every surface was covered in protective paper and plastic. I mean every surface. Appliances, fixtures, etc. These guys took serious care of our place. Every wall was sanded, every chip was filled in with spackle. Things I couldn't even see were treated with extreme care, and I can say that it really makes a difference. Our project was completed ahead of schedule, taking just 2 1/2 days. We're thrilled. The place looks absolutely beautiful. We had Jim's crew paint every wall, plus baseboards and doorframes. Lookswell isn't cheap, but it's an incredible value for what you're getting, and very competitive with other professionals of this caliber. Jim is very easy to work with, and a true gentleman. He replied to every email and phone call within minutes and always gave honest opinions and advice. What more could you ask for!
