I got scammed here. I'm not sure what happened to me was even legal, but had a horrible experience. We ordered $25 of food and were billed $40 with no explanation. They were rude, slow, and got the order wrong as well. I took my kids to get lunch at Kelly's. My son is a train enthusiast and loved the idea of eating in a diner car. It's kind of a dump but had lots of customers (that looked local), so figured it had to be decent. The place is cash only, which is really shocking in 2024. I wasn't prepared for that, but it was on their website, so I guess that was my fault for not getting cash beforehand. I had $50 in my wallet and noticed a sign on the front door saying they've increased prices due to increased food prices, but haven't printed new menus....which really added to my anxiety because I can't even predict if my $50 was enough. That's honestly really heinous and illegal. I sympathize with rising food costs, but get out a sharpie and update your menus by hand. Don't tell me something is $10, but charge me $20. OK, so they have an ATM, but it was broken. I kept getting weird software errors. It was some brand I've never heard of and seemed pretty sketchy. OK, Plan B, I'll let my kids order and I wasn't honestly that hungry. I let my children order while I tried every card in my wallet in their ATM, but no luck. I tried asking the staff if they would take Venmo or if they knew ANY solution to this problem, like a nearby ATM. Of course, they were rude and acted like I was a lowlife for walking into a crappy low-end diner with 2 kids and only $50. I talked to the waitress and she told me there was a $40 bill. I figured my kids ordered a bunch of extras. I honestly was so embarrassed by the situation, I didn't check the bill and just paid her $48 (including tip) before getting the food. I guess it's my fault for assuming she was a decent human being and believing her. I am not used to getting scammed and cheated by diners, so assumed it was legit. She didn't seem untrustworthy. I guess I am a terrible judge of character. I asked for the food to go because it was a horrifying experience and I didn't want to sit in that dump and not eat because I only had $50 in my wallet. I tried to hide my stress and embarrassment from my children, who I wanted to treat on their day off from school. I was surprised to only see 2 containers. I didn't bother checking them because I was stressed out, feeling judged by the rude waitstaff and just wanted to get out of there. When we got home, they got the order wrong. My daughter ordered a plain cheeseburger and it was anything but plain and had a soggy bun from the pickles and tomatoes on it. My son had pancakes and they were fine. My daughter was grossed out by the onion and tomato juice all over her burger, which was supposed to be plain, so she gave it to me. It was well below mediocre. Definitely not good food. I was bothered by the $40, though. I was looking forward to a nice lunch with my kids and it was really the worst experience I've had in a long time, so I went to their website. Looking at their website, my children ordered $15 worth of food. According to a recent photo of their menu, it was $25. I know they said they were going to increase the prices due to increased food cost, but I still have no clue how they got $40. They never gave me a receipt nor even offered one and again...I am not used to be stolen from, so I don't normally check receipts. I paid before I got the food so didn't realize my kids only ordered 2 things. I tried letting this go, but what they did to me was illegal and really awful. It's illegal to say something is one price, but charge another and it's illegal to add an extra $15 charge with no explanation. Was there this morning 8/25 and won't be back. My toast was SATURATED with butter gross amounts, my girlfriend's hash was the worst she's ever had, she threw away 95%. This is just a service review... the food was great! we are just leaving this Sunday morning. Our waitress was careless. First off they were annoyed and didn't want to take my order because one of us took an extra minute getting in, even though it didn't appear to be busy. I love the French toast - it's soft, fluffy, and deliciously sweet. Their sausage and home fries are crispy and hot. My girlfriend absolutely loves the raspberry pancakes. Service - the friendly service is welcome for any tired-eyed patron, peppy with a hot cup of coffee in hand and ready to take your order. The servers have always been so sweet and made sure our food is promptly brought to us. We've never had a missed order and I don't think we've ever had to wait longer than 15 minutes to eat. What a gem!!!! So, my husband and I were in Boston for our 10yr wedding anniversary and we saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives so I had to check it out!! The homemade corn beef hash was excellent! Home fries had a great crisp to the edges. My husband got an enormous 4 egg omelet and enjoyed that as well. Such a great place with friendly waitresses. What a huge disappointment... I'm a big fan of diners and was so excited to try Kelly's. I took my grandkids for a special lunch date. We walked in and there were several tables open but all dirty. When we entered, there was a short wait, but then my boyfriend and I ended up at the counter. We were immediately served by a woman who was so sweet! I wish I could remember her name. We both ordered the Kelly's Super and it was p e r f e c t. Pancakes were fluffy, sourdough was buttered to perfection, the potatoes were amazing and melt in your mouth with a bite on the outside. My boyfriend got sausage instead of bacon and wow. They were huge! (Probably the first and last time my boyfriend hears me compliment his sausage).
