The food at this restaurant was delicious, and I had no problem with anything I ate. However, I did have an issue with the service. We ordered 3 iced coffees for the table. Our waitress repeated the order back to us: 3 iced coffees. She came back with 3 hot coffees. Mistakes happen, and I was not upset. Trying to be nice, one of my friends ordered another iced coffee. She came back with an iced coffee, but my other friends were far too uncomfortable to try ordering one for the third time. When she returned, I ask for some ice in a cup. Our waitress rolls her eyes but comes back with it. When bringing out the food, she rolls her eyes at us again. We had an incredibly uncomfortable experience and felt extremely unwelcome. Looking at the other reviews, especially from other POC, this kind of behavior seems par for the course. Safe to say, we will not be returning. Having been a waiter, I understand working long shifts is tiring and can be irritating, especially during rush hour. Despite this, I have never rolled my eyes at a customer. This is a really great diner with the 50s vibe with it's pink and teal colors. I came in and was sat immediately on a Friday morning. The waitress was very quick and attentative. My bf and I both got OJs and the Kelly super but with chocolate chip pancakes. The scrambled eggs were as expected. The bacon was nice and crispy. The home fries were forgettable. The toast was fine. Throwback diner with huge portions at great prices. What more could you ask for? Came here for brunch on a Saturday with my family. There was a line, but it moves quickly. We squeezed into a booth and a sweet lady came by and said, "A show of hands - who wants coffee?" and like eager teacher's pets we all threw our hands up. She shot us a smile, said "I thought so", gave us 5 old-timey diner-style mugs, and filled them to the brim. I'm already feelin good. Ordered the Kelly's Super (get the Scali - it's a regional thing - braided loaf topped with sesame seeds named after the family who made them). Everything was delicious. I had a perfectly respectable diner breakfast here. It was my first time. By 8 AM the place was very busy. I went in alone. I was quite surprised though at the prices. The prices that accompany the photos here on Yelp are very much outdated. I ordered regular pancakes and a side of bacon with a cup of coffee. The bill totaled $22. By the time I left a tip, my pretty average diner breakfast for one cost $27. So, I think this is a hard pass for the future. They're not hurting for business though. read more

The staff was very nice but it's really hard for them to hear you over the phone if you get take out so it might be better to just go order there. Especially when it's comes out of an authentic 1953 John O'Mahoney two-piece dining car, enrobed in chrome outside, splashed with turquoise and carnation pink inside. Husband and I came to Kelly's for the homemade corned beef Yelpers seem to rave about and Boson area magazines bestow honors upon. It's rare to find a non-tinned version of this breakfast delicacy, so husband is willing to travel to find it. He ordered the #8 Homemade: corned beef hash, two eggs any style (always over-easy for him), home fries and wheat toast. I went with an "Incredible Four Egg Omelet" with peppers, onion and mushroom (added Swiss cheese), home fries and rye toast. What came out was art. Sure, the black-velvet fat Elvis kind; but art nonetheless. Husband's eggs were cooked exactly how he likes them, so that they burst and oozed down over his home fries and hash when split. He liked that the hash had an almost creamy texture and wasn't overly salty, with the corned beef flavor in the forefront. Me, I was imagining a standard omelet with canned 'shrooms and typical green peppers. What Peggy set in front of me was a puffy, fluffy, golden crescent of egg enveloping tender onion, *fresh* sliced mushrooms, and *roasted red peppers*. Now, if I were a roasted red pepper, I would announce myself in neon lights on a menu: folks love a roasted red pepper. Kelly's roasted red peppers do not. Maybe they enjoy the element of delighted surprise on diner's faces when they show up. I know mine lit up like Times Square. And that omelet was goooood. Damn good. Home fries were excellent, too, and my rye toast was the dark kind, which I hardly ever get when I ask for rye. The coffee was halfway decent, too. And our bill came to 23 bucks (CASH ONLY here, with an ATM in the entry). Yup, I'd like to hitch Kelly's dining car to the back of a pick-up and haul her down to DC. We happened to go on a Monday mid morning and got talking to locals who have been coming here for years..... The atmosphere is friendly and 'local'. The decor is to die for, I would have loved to take the tables and chairs home with me. Food wise there wasn't a lot of choice for a gluten free girl, but I wasn't expecting there to be. I was driving through Somerville trying to decide where I wanted to go for breakfast when "Kelly's" popped into my head and forced my hands to start turning the steering wheel. The waitresses all look like they've been there forever (they likely have), and their smiles are weary but earnest. There is a juke box at every booth. It is just like the diners of my youth, only located a couple of miles away instead of a four hour drive down I-95. My dish of choice is the linguica (an awesome vinegar sausage) omelette with whole wheat toast. It seems like it was quite popular with the locals; many patrons either Tufts students or neighboring residents. The corned beef hash with eggs combo and pastrami sandwich were definite winners. The portions here are massive. Pastrami had great flavor especially with the sauerkraut and the rye bread was toasted perfectly. Not overly salty like other pastrami tends to be. The fries were the steak kind so they were thick which I don't like as much, however, they were crispy here which makes them much better. An overall solid choice for a laid-back, 50s-inspired, reasonably-priced diner breakfast. Not really four stars, but not really three either. So let's be generous. I came at 10am on a Saturday morning to find three or four available tables. I quickly received my first pour of the bottomless coffee (somewhat weak, but a decent flavor). The menus on the tables touted the diner's various awards, such as being featured on Diner's, Drive-in's and Dives. My husband and I opted for our favorite breakfast combo, one eggs entree and one sweet dessert-in-breakfast-form entree to split. The eggs, potatoes, toast, bacon, and sausage were fine. The chocolate chip pancakes were really solid. Something about using mini chocolate chips, I think. I was surprised by the number of yuppies filling up the diner. Not exactly what I was looking for. However, the waitress's accent and frequent, but somehow charming, questions to our general dining area about who asked for sweetener or a glass of water brought back the local Boston vibe. I suspect that I will still prefer the Deluxe Diner in Watertown, but this was a good breakfast for two for $21. read more

On DDD (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) so I had to check it out. It was great!! It had this great old school feel and our waitress was fun and on top of her 'ish. She kept forgetting to bring my sister her Orange Juice so when she did bring it for her she brought her a large one and apologized for not bringing it sooner. She was great about refilling my coffee and being honest with us about portion sizes, since they're huge! My sister and I shared the Western omelet (with potatoes and wheat toast) and the half order of the french toast, both DELISH!! I love breakfast, so this place was great!!
