Best place for a old school breakfast in Cambridge. A spot that makes me smile every time.

This diner served us much more food and at a lower price, with better service, than elsewhere. And, there was much more available seating.

Andy's is a very nice place that's been in business here for decades. The staff is wonderful and the food is delicious. There's plenty of tables and also counter service. Their service is prompt, top notch and professional. On street parking is usually available within a few blocks, and it's on at least two bus lines and a short walk from the Porter Square Red Line stop. It's generally fairly quiet. The rest rooms are a bit dated but seem clean. Correction!! They do have a parking lot behind the building. The entrance is on Creighton Street. read more

Saw this place when I was biking! The restaurant had a long line, and I probably wasn't seated until 20 minutes in. My waitress forgot a lot, but I didn't mind. I sat at the bar and ordered the Lumber Jack that came with three eggs, meats, and potato fries. Food was okay... I rather eat at iHop. Ambience was good though, not loud. read more

Andy's Diner has the home town go to vibe that we love to find on a breakfast restaurant! Our AirBnB host recommended this as one of their favorite go to so we decided to try it out. It was also a short walk from the Porter Station. Our waitress was so friendly and was at our table within a minute of us sitting down. She took our order and within 15 minutes we had all of our food. The portion sizes were insane and we were not even able to finish all of the food we ordered. The prices were all very reasonable for how much food you got. I highly recommend stopping Andy's Diner if you are looking for a big breakfast to hold you over for a big day of walking around Boston. Just know you won't be hungry until dinner! read more

As a longtime patron of Andy's Place since 1987, although very infrequently over the past years. I stopped in on a snowy morning after a night of providing ride share service across the region. a) I walked in, it was packed, with one section closed and open spaces at the service bar. b) As a courtesy, I stood in the middle of the dining area waiting to be seated at the only open table. c) A young couple walked in past me and then turned around and headed towards the table, whereupon I spoke then to say that I was waiting for that booth. They responded "first come" first served", as if they were there first. They walked away and sat at two seats at the bar. d) I sat down at the table and opened my portfolio to do a bit of work while having breakfast. e) They had spoken to the waitress at the bar who came to me and said that I had to move to give the table to her "customers" based on first come. I tried to explain that I was there first, but I got up. f) I spoke to the customers who were beginning their transition from the bar just to question their statement that "everyone knows that you don't have one person sit in a booth doing work, when a place is busy and 2 customers want that table," which was a different story from their initial from "first come" assertion. e) The waitress told me to "stop harassing my customers" as I tried to explain and she snapped back that she didn't have time for this and was too busy and that I was causing trouble - loudly enough where other patrons were viewing the interaction. I was not going to be given consideration as her customer. I stayed calm, no longer having a taste for anything to do with that place, ever again. f). I'm not sure if this had anything to do with my treatment, but the couple and the waitress were white, I am an Afro American, senior citizen. No matter, I was mistreated and pushed back with attitude for no reason. I moved on to another favorite eating spot. g) I'm owed an apology! read more

Was excited to try the food since my Uncle has been going here for over 10 years. The steak tasted plastic with absolutely no seasoning. I wanted to switch out to bacon and the manager informed the waiter they can't do it and that they don't season their steak and oh well, I will still be charged. Dirt-cheap, average-quality diner food, from my couple of experiences there. Breakfast all day (until 3 p.m. closing). For breakfast, I ordered the Cambridge Eggstravaganza -- 3 eggs, 2 pancakes (about the size of an old 78 rpm record), 3 sausage links and 3 bacon strips, plus coffee. $9.95. Average quality. Nothing extaordinary, but a fair price for well-cooked diner food. For lunch the next day, I ordered the cheesburger melt. Looks like an 8 oz. patty, served on Texas toast with sauteed chopped onions and the cheese of choice (I opted for cheddar). Fries are the regular frozen straight cut like you might get at most pizza places, the Sysco truck special. Fine and tasty when cooked correctly, and these were. Coffee is NOT included with this meal, but WAS included with the aforementioned breakfast and, I suspect, most breakfast combos. Service: friendly and efficient (have only been waited on by Kelly). Ambiance: dated, but pretty clean -- I know I've seen a number of comments decrying the cleanliness, but in my experience so far, it has been pretty clean. Also, this is one of the FEW diners I can enjoy without immediately feeling the need to rush to the bathroom -- I suspect they use butter or real Crisco on the flattop, rather than the slippery gunk many other diners use. Food: B- to B, but I'm eager to try their various roast beef and turkey dishes, as well as the Monte Cristo sandwich. All the diner classics are here. Price: A -- one of the best bargains in Cambridge (the other being nearly across the street at the Newtowne Grille. No liquor license. read more

This was a basic diner in Cambridge, MA. My brother and I stopped in for breakfast before heading into Boston for the day. I would say this was a pretty mediocre breakfast spot. It was just kind of average breakfast food. Nothing to special, but it wasn't bad either. I would say the staff were very nice! They were quick to take our order and helpful if we had any questions. A nice old-fashioned family Greek diner. The coffee is really good and is better than Dunkin'. I am a fan of bacon and potatoes and toast only. I don't do eggs. My wife gets the eggs once over and is always happy with how they come out. The raisin toast is amazing and a favorite. I ask for my potatoes and bacon well done. Service is prompt and efficient and your coffee will never be empty. I am always happy to support local businesses and there is free parking in the back. read more

Grumpy server. Sticky table. Bland greasy food. Barely edible. The worst diner I've ever been to.

I get why people come here, it's got that old school diner feel. I came in late on a Saturday morning, sat on a rickety stool at the front counter, and wondered why it was so dead -- I soon found out! I asked if I could get the Fenway Faithful omelet (sausage, onions, peppers, cheese) with bacon instead. My waitress wasn't sure so she asked the other server, who told me I could NOT make substitutions. I could however add peppers and onions to the bacon and cheese omelet. Even if they had upcharged me by a $1 for switching to bacon, it still would have cost less than adding two items to the bacon and cheese, which I unfortunately did grudgingly. I tried to get over their absurd substitution policy and sipped at my just fine coffee. I was impressed when my omelet appeared within five minutes! I figured one of the pluses of this place must be the quick service and dug in. Turns out, it was so quick because the peppers and onions were completely raw. Crunchy and with plenty of bite. I love raw onions just as much as the next girl, but there is a time and a place and in a breakfast omelet is not one of them. The bacon was mostly fat. I tried to push through but didn't manage to finish it. The two stars are honestly just for the home fries and the toast, which were good, and the coffee, which as I mentioned was fine. I probably won't be stopping back in here, as I prefer my breakfast to be properly cooked and the prices aren't low enough to overlook it. read more

My Hispanic family went to this diner this morning and did not receive the same treatment or service as White people who went. When they arrived, they were not greeted nor told to sit down wherever they'd like. However once other people walked in, they were all happy and giving the best service to them. Second, when my family was ready to pay, they had noticed that they were charged for coffee when the coffee is supposed to come with the meal. Smh, it's 2021 do better. read more

I adore this place, and I try to make a point of going for brunch almost every weekend. That said, it's an old diner with likely the same interior its had since the very beginning. But for that reason, it feels very homey, and I really like it. To add to the homey feeling, you don't have to wait to be seated. There's a sign when you enter that tells you to seat yourself at any clean table. Soon thereafter, the waitstaff will come help you. I always get Andy's Eggstravaganza which is a little shy of $10 and comes with 3 eggs, 3 strips of bacon, 3 sausages, 2 larges pancakes, and your choice of juice or coffee (with free refills). It probably doesn't serve the most healthful food (very fluffy pancakes, so likely lots of butter and/or shortening), but you don't go to a local hole-in-the-wall diner for healthful food options. The waitresses are very sweet, and I've found the service to be quite swift (which I always love when I'm hangry at 1pm on a Saturday). Their coffee isn't anything crazy, but it tastes like diner coffee, which perhaps it should. read more

Very nice diner for brunch. Simple menu, mostly omelettes and pancakes, clean interior and fast service. All omelettes served with potatoes and buttered bread. The 'special' coffee is very mild, and they have no tea selection - only black tea. They don't serve alcohol nor do they allow substitutes. There is one healthy meal combo of cholesterol-free eggs, cereal and bread. It is nice and quiet - I love it that we could relax and enjoy our meal and actually talk without having to fight background noise. Will come back again. read more

A good old-fashioned dinner, your average greasy spoon. Very low key and old-school. Small menu but cheap prices and big portions. Eggs were perfectly cooked and the corned beef hash was tasty/salty. This is a truly excellent diner. In an age when diners too often succumb to the traps of lower quality ingredients, inflated prices, cheap newfangled decor (often the result of tragic makeovers), and poorly treated employees, Andy's Diner is a breath of fresh air. Nothing fancy by any means, the decor is well worn, sturdy and carries history; the food is standard diner fare, and excellent, with ingredients that don't taste cheap; the prices are refreshingly reasonable for what you get; and the service is outstanding, friendly, attentive, precise. Diners are simple places, and they need just a few simple things to work, otherwise the customer feels not at home, and cheated of the experience. Andy's Diner has managed to preserve these simple elements, and that's why it's so good in spite of being nothing fancy or new. Let's hope it stays that way. read more

In my 6 months in Boston, I haven't found many true diners. This place is exactly that - which immediately made me want to try it. The food is good - not great, no frills, but a hearty meal nonetheless. I paid $11 for 2 pancakes, 3 sausage, 3 bacon, 3 eggs, and tea; a great deal for this area. I also love that the smell of grease doesn't permeate everything! What I didn't like was the service, which other reviews spoke so highly of. She couldn't give me a recommendation and I never saw the waitress after I got my food. I had to find someone else to help me with my beverage. I was also quite confused, as the same waitress had time to make small talk with other tables. As a Midwesterner, I go to diners for the whole experience - great food, friendly service, relaxed atmosphere. This will fill up my tummy but doesn't meet the mark. I've been going to Andy's for 30 years. I'm a breakfast guy. Every time I've gone whatever I get it's always fresh, hot and good. I like their reliability. I was concerned about going to any restaurant post Covid but I went into Andy's for breakfast about 2 months ago primarily to look at how they were dealing with the Big C. I saw that they had closed every other booth and closed the entire counter. There was plenty of room wherever I wanted to sit. Everyone was wearing a mask and the waitress was doing some serious cleaning of table surfaces as soon as people left. I started feeling pretty good about going back to Andy's on a regular basis. I've been back 2 more times since then. I feel safe at Andy's because of how serious they take their responsibilities to their customers. read more
