Went back this time on Halloween with a couple of friends and the food seriously does not disappoint! We came in time perfectly to check out the spooky Halloween decorations and to grab a couple of dishes after a long day. As usual, I always get the Sweet and sour sliced fish dish which I can't seem to get enough. We also tried a couple of new dishes this time around as well. One of my new favors has to be the Eggplant with garlic sauce dish! The eggplant is perfectly seasoned and lightly crispy and because it is layered with the thin crispy exterior, the inside stays hot and soft. You just have to be careful with the first couple of bites as the dish is cooling off because its juices explode in your mouth. I will definitely be getting the is dish again! I was in the area visiting family, when I stumbled upon Ke Zhang. I hadn't looked up the place so I didn't know what to expect, but the menu looked appealing. The ambiance really got me lol. The outside of the shop is so subtle and unassuming - it looks like a plain restaurant. But the moment I stepped in through the door, I notices the bit of One Piece decor. Being a rabid One Piece fan, I was very amused at the display. My small party was greeted immediately, and led to our table - next thing I knew, I was hit in the face with a TON of One Piece decorations - from the giant wallpaper to the floor to ceiling display, to the little details like the chopstick wrapper and employee uniforms. As a One Piece fan, it was fun to look at everything. The menu is very straight forward, skewers and dishes. I'm a huge fan of street skewer food, but lately the streets of Flushing have been so crowded, and it's getting colder. I hate driving 2 hours to visit, just to have to stand in line for 30 minutes for a couple of skewers. Ke Zhang is the exact answer to my spicy lamb skewer dreams. My party of three ordered a bunch of skewers, an appetizer, and a main dish to share. The staff was friendly and efficient, and our orders came pretty quickly. This is definitely a huge step up over waiting in line, outside, in a crowd. The food was actually pretty good - enough that my most critical, Asian kitchen manager of a mother was happy and would go back. My favorites were the lamb, gizzard, and chicken wings skewers. I honestly wish I was more hungry, because all the food we ordered was pretty good, and I wanted to try more skewers. The bubble tea was good, not to sweet (lol). The complimentary hot tea was very welcome in the cold weather - not burnt or watered down. The cherry on top was that the entire menu was very reasonable - something that's getting harder and harder to come by these days. Just arrived NY last winter, my brother in law immediately took my wife and me for a late supper. This place is located in Flushing where there is a lot of Asian restaurants. I knew I am in a good place because he knows all the hood place to eat around here. I didn't even bother to read thru the menus because he knew what to order. We had all different kind of dishes, some fried, some warm and even some cold dishes. My favorites were the food cooked on a stick. But I also love their fried chicken wings. Looks more modern but the food tastes worse. -The 口水鸡 chicken appetizer is really dry. -水煮酸菜鱼片 pickled fish is not flavorful and lacks the authentic flavor. -泡椒田鸡 pickled frog is super dry. Costs $49.95 which is double the price compared to the better tasting dish at Szechuan Mountain House. The chef didn't splash hot oil over the peppercorn and peppers. By the time I ordered and got my first appetizer, it was packed! There was a wait for seating and for take out by the time it hit 7pm. The menu is a bit all over the place but I didn't mind that, especially if everyone in your party wants something different. Between the BBQ skewers, congee, instant noodles, seafood plates, bento boxes, Pad Thai, lo mein, fried rice, and even French fries - lots of variety to choose from! I had to flip back and forth a few times to decide. To maximize this experience, I tried to order across categories. The bento box is the best value. The French Fries were crisp and meant for sharing. Skewers were very inexpensive and very good value for the portion. Pass on the Pad Thai, and pass on the instant noodles. My friend raves about their ice rice dessert which seemed very different and unique. From pictures, I thought it was ABC but it isn't. It's more of a "Asian cereal" where instead of cereal and milk, it's rice and milk. It sounds weird but it doesnt taste as bad as it sounds! The ice rice comes with milk tea with sticky rice and raisins, peanuts and some assortments of fruits. The rice is in the bottom so you need to mix it well. I can't believe I live so close by and didn't know about this place until recently!! I love coming here for late night eats and their bbq skewers are awesome! Best yet, they also have my favorite dessert which is 冰飯! I've been back 3 times since (both takeout and dine-in) and I can't express how happy I am that they have periwinkles (石螺) because none of the restaurants I know do. When I first walked in I thought I was in an Anime store. Anime themed characters adorned the restaurant walls and shirts of the staff. The menu was pretty extensive and we started out with some appetizers. We ordered the lamb, beef, Chinese sausage and fish ball skewers. The skewers all had a light dusting of cumin. All in all they were delish and for a $1 a piece for most skewers, you can't go wrong. For our entrée we ordered the casserole loaded with tender slices of fish,vegetables and chilies. We decided on mild for the heat factor and the dish was delicious. I had plenty of left overs to take home. We also ordered the shrimp, pork and beef pineapple fried rice, serve in a halved pineapple. The fried rice was packed with meat and shrimp and stir fried to perfection. We really enjoyed the fried rice as the pineapple was not too overpowering sweet and had a nice balance of sweet and salty. The staff were very polite and wait times to get our food once we placed our order was minimum. Like I said earlier, if you're into the anime thing this place would be an added bonus for you. If you're only here for the food and not the décor or theme of the place, you won't be disappointed either. It's a winning combination on both sides of the equation. If you like one piece, the anime, this restaurant is one piece themed :) I love this place, there's usually never a wait to be seated. Even if you come with a large party there is plenty of space. If you come with 2-4 people they have cool booths for you to be seated in. I got the hand pulled beef noodles and that was delicious. The price per meal is pretty cheap. The wait staff is pretty friendly and attentive and so service was pretty on point. No complaints here. read more

I stumbled upon this restaurant by chance, the outside had crazy decorations going on with Mardi gas beads wrapped around the handle but in a good eye-catching sort of way. So I figured let's go see what I'm here, and we'll I wasn't disappointed. The food was fantastic we had the lamb in hot chili oil sauce and it was just phenomenal I kept wanting to eat more, the flavors were spot on. I've lived down the block from this hidden gem for over a year now and only started coming in a couple of months ago, but it's easily one of my favorite spots in the area. As a vegetarian, I have plenty of delicious options but so far my favorite dish is the sizzling bean curd. Portions are huge, especially for the price. I can't recommend this place enough. We came here with a group of 6 people on a Friday around 7pm and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. It was surprisingly busy but maybe because it was a holiday and people did not have work. I love the One Piece anime. The decor of the restaurant consists of One Piece wall art and figurines, while the employees donned t-shirts with the anime. However I don't really truly get what the theme of this restaurant really has to do with Chinese food. It'd be much cooler if the dishes here at least have One Piece-inspired names. I would pass on the green apple smoothie because it tasted like liquid jolly rancher, way too sweet and candy-like to be a drink. The lamb skewer and chicken wing skewer were delicious, I love cumin anything! We ordered the braised pork, some cabbage dish (oily!), some fish dish (that lacked fish!), black bean and garlic clams (yummy, can't ever go wrong with this!) amongst other things which I had forgotten (I guess it wasn't that memorable). Overall the food was pretty good, but I wouldn't be rushing back any time soon... or ever for that matter. The prices are very fair, service is okay. There is a restaurant across the street with a red awning that has similar styled (Szechuan-like?) food and is WAY better. Go there instead. read more

oh man how novel is this? an anime themed restaurant in queens! and an one piece themed restaurant too to boot! definitely entered this restaurant and felt like a giddy little school boy, completely captivated by the sleek interior and awesome theme, the food however definitely fell below the mark ordered the skewers, spicy beef tripe, and popcorn chicken skewers were a dollar a piece, pretty tender and well worth the price since they sell them outside for 1.00 spicy tripe was okay nothing special, but not bad either popcorn chicken, was one of the better items I tried here, honestly its one of the better versions I've tried in flushing, a definite must when visiting this establishment as the outside was crunchy while the chicken itself was still very tender although not a bad option, this place wasn't exactly something that blew me away either. Been coming to Ke Zhang for the last year or so for their ice rice. Would really love to give them 5 stars but they recently switched from crushed ice to ice cubes. With the crushed ice it was great because you can grab a scoop and there will be a few pieces of crushed ice. Now that they've switched to ice cubes it's a bit annoying since you have to shuffle off the cubes before grabbing a bite. read more
