    Tteokbokki
    Dan N.

Solid casual Korean and Japanese spot in the Fenway neighborhood. Quick and efficient service, and fairly priced given the area. Tteokbokki did not wow me honestly, I've had better but it is okay. Fried chicken is one thing they are very good at - I got soy garlic wings. They were freshly fried, perfectly sweet and salty, and had the perfect crisp to them. I'd come back for the Korean fried chicken if I was in the area! I can't speak for their Japanese selection

KChickin is one of those places that earns its high rating without much argument. We walked into a space that buzzes even on weeknight evenings, with a menu spanning Korean fried chicken, sushi, hand rolls, and Japanese comfort food. That combination sounds like it could go sideways, but the kitchen handles the range with enough confidence that the whole thing works. The fried chicken is the anchor of the menu and the reason most people come back. We ordered the soy garlic wings, the most talked about item, and they justified the reputation. They came out freshly fried with a glaze that coated evenly and a crunch that held. The chili basil version is worth ordering alongside if you want some heat, and the classic crispy is the right call for anyone who wants to taste the chicken itself without much interference. The calamari is a strong starter, well fried and light enough that it did not weigh down the rest of the meal before it got going. On the Japanese side of the menu, the kaisen don stood out. The presentation was careful and the fish was fresh in a way that made it feel like a dish the kitchen takes seriously rather than an afterthought. The hand rolls are solid and satisfying, though they lean more reliable than revelatory, making them a good addition to a larger spread rather than the sole reason to visit. For a spot covering this much ground, the consistency impressed us most. People drive over an hour to eat here, and that says something. It earns the trip. We would come back for the soy garlic wings and a bowl of kimchi tofu soup, and we would bring friends who want both Korean fried chicken and fresh sushi under one roof.

After our hotdog at our first Fenway game, we were hungry. The hotdog was good but it was not enough LOL We decided to find a place nearby and decided on some Asian food. We found KChickin nearby on Peterborough Street and they're open until 9:30pm. We walked quickly over as hunger is a good motivator to walk fast. The restaurant has takeout but offered enough space to hold three famished Fenway newbies. Service was quickly and friendly and the food was served fairly quickly. Seems like most restaurants begin at the suggested 18% tip to start. Some calculate their tipping suggestions at your subtotal before adding the taxes to your bill. This restaurant included the taxes as part of its tip calculation so be aware that you're actually tipping more than 18%. FYI: as a customer, you decide how much to tip for quality service. Bringing your orders to your table is basic. How many times they filled your water cups and check up on you are important and expected. Tipping is not automatic in my humble opinion. Servers who work diligently for their tips so tip accordingly to those who provided a great dining experience.

Decent Korean/sushi spot in the Fenway area. The restaurant space is a little small, but there are a good amount of seats and service was decent. Menu had a huge selection of dishes and while I'm usually apprehensive about spots that do a mix of cuisines, they did an okay job with the dishes we ordered. We opted to not get sushi as the name of the restaurant is very much oriented towards their fried chicken. Food came out fast and was fresh. The chicken was okay, nothing amazing but not bad. The soup was a little disappointing personally, but I prefer more flavor. The shell was tasty though. Overall, I probably wouldn't come running back, but I wouldn't mind returning if in the area again.

Casually stopped by with my parents, no expectations and it did not disappoint! Beef bulgogi was the fave, so much flavor but not too heavy. Katsu chicken curry was generous on the portion and was a comfort meal. It was my first time trying Tkeokbokki, these ones are pretty spicy! The shrimp katsu was a miss though - not whole shrimp, instead it was a fried paste/mix? Overall, huge menu so I'd come back to try the wings and sushi!

foie gras and uni hand roll with uni hand roll

I'm glad I found a place which sells items with uni. I got the foie gras and uni hand roll with uni hand roll for takeout. It was interesting how they had the sauce on the side for you to squeeze on which was convenient for takeout. Unfortunately the uni in one of their rolls was not as fresh so it was a bit bitter and had a bit fishy flavor instead of sweet for fresh uni. Wish I could have tried more of their hot food items so the rating is only based on the freshness of the rolls. There was no parking lot in the front so you have to find a parking spot along the street with limited spaces. I got takeout but there were no utensils in my bag. Wish they had provided chopsticks or a spoon/fork.

I didn't have a car so I walked here from the station and it was definitely a trip but a very worth trip!! The food was amazing and the service was good as well. I really liked how they decorated the restaurant, every wall did decorated with intent. Definitely want to come back again!

After returning home from a trip yesterday we wanted to order food for dinner and the hubs wanted sushi so we ordered from KChickin for pickup. I ordered the miso soup and the spicy chicken entree which come with rice - and it was definitely spicy - very tasty but spicy - true into its name! We also ordered the garlic fried rice either chicken- which was very mild but tasty and comforting. The hubs ordered the Philadelphia roll, spicy tuna roll and the spicy salmon roll. He enjoyed all the sushi. Miso soup was good, warm, comforting maybe a tiny bit too salty but really good and had small pieces of silken tofu and seaweed. Everything was fresh when it arrived. Order was ready when he went to pickup. Only thing they didn't ask for his name when he had ordered although he mentioned it just as they were hanging up. So when he went to pickup and he said the name they could not find the bag. Then he told them all the items that were ordered. And then they were able to find the bag. Anyway, no big deal! Overall food is consistently good and service and ambience are great too!

Solid Korean fried chicken spot serving up other Korean and Japanese dishes -- including sushi! Located in the heart of Fenway, KChickin is known for their juicy yet crispy wings. We got their classic soy garlic wings which were packed full of flavor. Only downside is that some of the wings, near the bone were pink. Service was super friendly, our food came out quickly and we were seated basically immediately. The place seems like the perfect spot to grab drinks with a friend over some wings. It's a smaller spot with not too much seating either. I do wish there was a spot to hang coats as the seating is all stool seating. Overall, good vibes! Small tweaks I would personally suggest is ensuring that the chicken is 100% fully cooked and adding a spot to hang coats. Would def come back here again to try their sushi!

I came here for dinner on a Thursday and it was pretty busy but we were sat immediately! We both ordered the kimchi stew and shared a small order of the basil chili wings. The flavor of both dishes was amazing. This might be one of my favorite tofu stews I've ever had! The wings could have been crispier but still so yummy! I would definitely come back to support a small business! Highly recommend this spot!

3.5 stars, this restaurant was cute, parking was tough, lots of the parking was permit only for the apartments. We ordered the tofu, soy chicken wings and KChick Don. The chicken wings were crispy and delicious (kinda pricy for 6 wings), the tofu was a nice texture but kinda lacking flavor. My partner had the KChick Don, he said he enjoyed it. Service was good!

After spending several hours at the nearby Museum of Fine Arts, I walked around 15 minutes to Fenway for this top-rated restaurant in a strip mall essentially. After opening a very heavy door, a server will direct you to a table in their single dining room. Within minutes, I ordered and was enjoying my food. For lunch, I ordered the small boneless garlic soy chicken wings. They were very filling. The outside was crispy yet the meat inside juicy. It comes with a bowl of pickled things to offset the flavor. The grape soda was a perfect pairing.

The restaurant is bright/vibrant decors with small tables . Perfect for small group of friends and couple to go grab fast but delicious Japanese/Korean food. We love the Super Bowl and super rainbow and the hotate bomb! They don't take reservations so make sure to plan ahead

Having been here twice now, getting the spicy cold beef udon and their special tantan udon is definitely the way to go (made the mistake of getting the soup udon the first time). The udon itself goes without saying. It is thick, super chewy, and cooked just to the right softness. The cold beef udon was perfect--the sauce has a great blend of flavors and is portioned correctly. The tantan was an interesting take that is different from typical Chinese tantan flavors, making it unique to their style. The main issue was the service flexibility. I asked for no cilantro on the tantan, and the server said they couldn't accommodate that request because they wanted to serve it the way the chef intended. This was ridiculous considering the cilantro was simply piled right on top rather than blended into a sauce or salsa. In the end, it was just a waste of time having to pick it all out myself. The best part was the table next to us were able to customize their bowl. The noodles and cold beef udon are outstanding, but untrained staff really changed the mood of the night.

We got the silver set, which comes with American and Australian wagyu meat options. We opted for this one because it includes the seafood platter, vegetable platter, and choice of one of the following specialty dishes: wagyu tartare with chips, sweet shrimp sashimi, bone marrow, & wagyu nigiri. We decided to each get the wagyu tartare. For broths, we did half sukiyaki and half spicy miso. I think next time I will just get only sukiyaki though because it is so good! We ended up just cooking everything in the sukiyaki broth. The pasteurized eggs are amazing in this broth btw! For all of the AYCE options, you get unlimited drinks + tea, seasonal fruit, ice cream, sauce bar, pasteurized eggs, ground wagyu, wagyu curry, and can order appetizers off their appetizer menu. For appetizers, we ordered seaweed salad, eel nigiri, chicken karaage, & fried shumai. They all tasted as expected, so we were happy about that. I enjoyed the ground wagyu! It was tasty and even tastier after adding in some garlic & chili peppers. Wagyu tartare looked and tasted very fresh. I think if it had some more citrus, it would've been even better. Because raw beef doesn't really have that much of a taste and I think some more lime would complement this well! The seafood platter was awesome. My favorites were the lobster tail, fresh abalone, scallops, and oysters. Amazing! I would say the only thing that I didn't like from my recent visit was the vegetable platter. It had great variety BUT I wasn't have that some of the veggies they gave us were not properly cleaned. Make sure to inspect the vegetables!! The watercress and bok choy still had some dirt on them. But everything else was fine. I always inspect everything before eating (anywhere) but I especially make sure to inspect watercress because it's known to be pretty dirty. For meats, we mainly stuck with the Australian wagyu chuck ribeye! It is my favorite cut from this set. Overall, I'd come back again! I think it's a great place to go for hotpot & is different from your typical Chinese hotpot experience. The silver set is the best to get in my opinion because you get a little bit of everything & to be honest, I don't think you can really taste the difference of the different wagyus (American vs Australian vs Japanese) unless it's being grilled.

The restaurant focuses mostly on soba or udon noodle dishes with a good selection between hot and cold options. It's not going to be the best udon or soba you've ever had. HOWEVER, I tried the cold ikura & uni cold soba and LOVED it. It's seasonal, so I tried that one out and was extremely surprised about how much I enjoyed the bowl. Not too much soup and the uni didn't completely obliterate when I stirred it up. They do use American wasabi though, and I found it superfluous to the dish and wished it was served on the side. But regardless, despite not having some extremely high quality noodles, the flavor and experience of the bowl itself was super pleasant. I ended up coming back the very next day because I wanted to try their clam soba. The clam soba only comes hot, which is a bit unfortunately because I actually think a cold clam soba with some lemon or yuzu would be phenomenol. I've been seeing recipes for it online so I've been wanting to try it, but their clam soba is a lot more standard and hot. They had a very good amount of clams in it, but I generally like their cold soba better. Still good, but didn't give me that feeling of needing to come back the very next day like I did with the ikura-uni combo. Overall, I'd still come back when I'm in downtown!

It was the Asian-American community's go-to spot for dine-in, take-out, or both! I look fondly on when they would yell "perfect" whenever I finished my bowl, praising how I slurped every freshly cut udon noodle and devoured every ounce of broth or crispy tempura bit they put in there. The new location is just a few stores down, still in/out of the Lesley University mall area. It has a nice ambiance and feels less cramped. While I miss the "perfect" yelling, the flavor still tastes just as good even if it's gotten an insane amount of hype since then. So, I ordered the spicy hot Niki udon and my bf ordered the hot Niki udon. The spicy one was good. I know the bowl looks red and scary but I promise it's not actually that spicy- just enough for a little kick. Broth was flavorful and has good balance of savory/spicey/just a bit of sweetness. However, my bf's non-spicy wasn't as good. The broth was weirdly a little too sweet? It also kinda reminds me of a curry broth which we weren't expecting. He wasn't happy with his broth and preferred my spicy broth. Besides the broth, the actual items in the soup were delicious. The noodles are very thick, slightly bouncy (but not as bouncy as I prefer) and taste fresh. They give you a good portion of beef which is tender. There are probably like 2 tbsp of green onions which was amazing bc I love green onion! And the green onions weren't spicy, just fresh. I think what really leveled the bowl up was the pieces of tempura which added a nice texture. I actually finished my whole bowl and didn't need a takeout container which rarely happens. So each bowl is enough for like one serving (do not share!). There is an open kitchen type situation so I could kind of peak over the counter and see the chefs. They played music on a volume louder than average, but there were good songs. Overall, I would not recommend the hot Niki udon but the spicy Niki udon is great. I do want to try their infamous cold udon which is broth-less. Service was quick and staff were very nice.
