There is a moderate selection/variety of sushi and the quality is good-for a buffet- the pieces of sushi are cut into good sizes. They do not put sauces over the top of the sushi pieces. Hey, this is a buffet. You can't give a buffet restaurant five stars can you? You can when it does as many things right as Katana does. This place is huge with seating for 400 hungry mouths. They have a tremendous variety of Asian and American dishes. They have a sushi chef keeping it fresh and plentiful and a hibachi chef cooking up your fresh selections and making them delicious. I'm not going to get into specific foods because the variety is amazing and it changes from day to day. Some of the items are consistently available while others rotate in and out periodically. It keeps things fresh and interesting. It's all delicious. The thing that really separates Katana from the rest is their commitment to quality control. They don't allow items to grow stale on the buffet, they keep it all fresh, hot and delicious. If an item has been sitting too long they toss it and replace with fresh product. Sometimes they replace items not moving with other items. It's great for groups too with multiple dining areas and a huge private parking lot. I grew up in the area but now live in Virginia so I only get to visit Katana when I'm in town visiting family. We don't have an Asian buffet in my part of Virginia that compares with Katana, I truly wish we did. This is place is the reason I refuse to eat at a buffet. The food is disgusting, it has either say too long, it's dried up, or isn't cooked enough (check the pot stickers). The hibachi grill? He burns everything while on the phone, the sushi chef never tells you what is out and if he happens to do so he yells at you for asking. The sushi is rubbery and hard, which is a sighn its old. The price is very reasonable $16.98 for two adult lunch buffets and 2 waters(free).the food was good, except the general Tsos chicken wasn't that good. My wife and I have been under some financial stress and haven't been able to take a date in a long time. We decided that we would use a little bit of our funds to go here. The food was ok. Some of it had tasted like it had been sitting out for some time. As we were leaving, the girl that fills your drinks up walks up to us and says we didn't leave a tip. She then kept asking about a tip and saying we needed to leave one. We already felt bad because we couldn't afford a tip and had no cash on hand with our financial situation. We would've left a tip of we could. However, I find it very unprofessional for them to be walking up to patrons and requesting a tip and trying to make people feel bad for no tip. We would not recommend this place because of that and because the food tasted like it had been sitting out for some times. read more

Used to go here all the time and it was amazing. Tried it again last week and everything has fallen apart. The food was cold and looked like it had been sitting for hours. There were bugs everywhere. I seen staff drop cookware and utensils on the floor only to pick it back up and keep using it. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. The servers and staff are very rude. They slam the checks down and basically demanded us to give them a tip with none of us felt they deserved based on how rude they were and the experience we had. Never even giving us a refill. Then we witnessed them chasing another couple out into the parking lot because they had not tipped. Talked to the couple after and they said they had the same experience. A waitress came up and berated me for a tip. I did not have cash on me and was running out to my car to get some. Husband and I went for the first (and probably LAST) time in 2022. The food was some of the best buffet food we've ever had. The SERVICE, however, totally ruined the experience. When we were walking to the building, this woman passed us loudly complaining about the terrible waitresses DEMANDING a tip and NOT letting them leave until they gave them one! We raised our eyebrows at each other and figured that maybe she was a Karen and went inside. We found out that Karen was exactly right! Waitress was very angry all the time and acted if she was doing us a favor. ALL the waitress' in this section were all very angry and screaming at each other ALL the time, which made it uncomfortable for us. When we were getting ready to leave, our waitress angrily DEMANDED we give her a tip. We explained that we had used our debit card and put a tip on there, but that was NOT enough for her. She actually SCREAMED at us to leave a tip or we could not leave! All we had in cash was roughly $2 and some change, so we left that and walked out. We were furious to say the least; we've NEVER been treated so rudely at a restaurant! And we have NO problem with tipping, either, but to be SCREAMED at and told we COULD NOT LEAVE w/o the extra tip was beyond ridiculous. We stopped to talk to the manager on our way out with our concerns, but he wasn't interested and rolled his eyes. We swore we'd never go back. Sad thing is, we find ourselves craving their food, but still refuse to go where we are treated so poorly. It seems on here that the rude waitress complaint w/tip is quite common but mgmt does nothing about it, which is VERY sad. I visited this restaurant for the first time yesterday (Sunday afternoon, paid $13.80 for the buffet and a drink). It was okay. The location is great - it's in Belden Village near Texas Roadhouse. I remember when this was Hometown Buffet; they're very clearly still using all of the same furnishings. The inside of this restaurant is pretty run down. The prices were reasonable, and they have a very wide selection of items. Mostly everything that I tried was good - but not everything. I loved the coconut shrimp, fried shrimp, dumplings, and lo mein. The sesame chicken was overcooked. Anything involving "crabmeat" is definitely imitation, and leaves a lot to be desired. But overall, especially for the price and with the variety of items, not bad. I didn't have a terrible customer service experience, but that wasn't great either. You walk in and they ask how many and do you want a drink - no greeting. You pay, and can add a tip at that time (which I did after reading these reviews haha) - no "thank you". Just "follow her". I never saw anyone smile. The waitress got us one drink, and spent a minute at the table arguing with me over whose receipt was whose (my friend had left to go to the bathroom, and our table hadn't been cleaned yet so the previous guest's receipt was there as well). The women's bathroom was a mess. Toilet paper all over the floor, a layer of water covering the sink, with one gallon-sized container of soap (it was so watered down, it didn't even resemble soap) on the counter. I am changing my review because last time we went the silverware was not clean, the floor was dirty and disgusting and I got a glimpse into a back room, I decided to check their health department inspection reports and YUCK. Cockroaches found by the sushi counter, deep fryers, chicken in gallon buckets sitting on the floor, and utensils not being properly sanitized on multiple occasions. Now, I am not a sushi fan. I went just to try out the place. Overall there is a lot of seafood, sushi, fruit and soup, for some reason. Overall the food seems fine. My friend loved the sushi. However, on the non-seafood, soup or fruit variety there is very little to choose from. They did had a line of American food. WHY? I refused to even look at it. There was one line of regular chinese food, which was mostly chicken, one beef entree and no pork. My favorite was the dumplings, fried to perfection with a great sauce. The place itself was very clean, open and well organized. Service was ok. We were there on a Sunday afternoon so it was very busy. I'd go back if necessary but won't go out of my way. I agree with another yelper review (that i read after the fact), the foods are plentiful but not seasoned that well. The roast was fairly decent and slicing your own is good and bad. Just read the inspection reports as started by another yelp reviewer. Never going back! This is a real complaint on the inspection; 3717-1-06.1(T) ***Observed an employee sleeping on a bottom prep table shelf inside the kitchen. The shelf had unopened canned goods on it. Manager, Jian states that this is not allowed but some workers are "lazy" and sleep when they are slow.*** Funny but gross! I have eaten at this restaurant dozens of times. It is always very clean and the staff is always very friendly. The food is very good and is always changed out when necessary. The tables are cleaned as soon as the customer is done eating and leaves the table. Fruits were cut with dirty knives that still leave some weird taste, and fruits were from the day before as it was not fresh. Same with the other food, not good at all.
