There is a huge selection, and, at least when I went, the food was being placed out speedily enough that it was always appropriately hot. Among the food choices are the typical varieties of chicken, shrimp, ride, and fruit, but aside from these norms there was also a custom, personalized hibachi bar, a sushi bar with approximately 10 selections, and a hefty dessert section. We went here for our Sunday lunch. It looked great as we walked by the different islands however we were really disappointed. Many of the "warm" entrees were either cold or tasted as they had been sitting out for way too long and were not fresh tasting and were dried out. This was odd to us because they were busy and the food was turning over pretty quickly. I tried to engage the sushi chef as he had around 10-12 sitting out and it was difficult to figure out what they were. Without looking at me, he just rapidly yelled "salmon, tuna, white tuna.." without showing which ones were the which. It didn't matter. After sampling a couple, they tasted very old and the meat was dry and rubbery. There are definitely much better sushi restaurants in the area, and also much better Asian restaurants. The workers at Katana are the rudest "servers" you will ever encounter. I just saw them treat a table of African American customers discourteously, insisting that they all sit at the same table over their objections. This discourteous treatment of customers is a consistent theme at this restaurant over my dozens of visits. They insist on force seating customers and group people together at the counter to seat them. The restrooms are also poorly maintained and dirty. We are going to look for another buffet. I wish you could rate things separately on this site because I would. I will first start off with the good rating which was the food, the food was delicious and fresh!! The bad ratings, where do I start? The moment we walked in the door I felt like I was being hounded for my money. I brought a large group of people and I was trying to explain to the guy how I was paying and he wouldn't listen to me and kept arguing with me on how many people I had but if he would have just listened to begin with my numbers would have added up right. Second off, when they seen how many people I brought they looked at me like they couldn't accommodate us (the place is HUGE and it wasn't busy). I had called a week before and spoke to a lady and she said a reservation wasn't needed since their facility was large and I was coming on a Monday. I also got prices from her and the prices did not match when I paid today. The drink and plate clean up service was terrible. I always clean up tables (plates, wrappers, etc.) as I go so that the servers can just walk by and pick up the stack of plates, he didn't even do that like he should have. I had plates sitting on my table until I asked him if he could take them away. My drink was empty and I had to ask multiple times for another drink. When I went to go leave, I was going to leave a cash tip on top of a credit card tip but when I was packing up, about to pull out cash to leave on the table, a female server came out and told me to read their "tip" policy and that the credit card tip I left was not enough and that I needed to leave more. I was going to leave more but after being hounded and approached like I was, I did not leave the cash tip. I felt like she was very rude and to top it off she went and got someone else to tell me also. They stood and starred at me the whole time I was getting my group ready to leave. Being approached like that is not appropriate especially for a tip. Not to mention I actually paid for an extra buffet and didn't ask them to refund my money, I just sucked it up and thought "Oh well". But now I should have asked them. So overall, the food was wonderful but the approach that all the workers took was absolutely terrible and I will probably never go back because of it. read more

Went here today at noon. I can only say OMG!! I tried as many different kinds of food as I could and it was Exceptional! The only item I had that I've had better elsewhere was the Wonton soup. This one was a little bland, almost no flavor. Otherwise everything I had was very tasteful. Some oriental foods after being on the buffet line a little long becomes a little hard and dry. Not here. My family went to this buffet on a Saturday afternoon. It was extremely rushed as you enter, you pay before you eat. The cashier was trying to ring up the family behind me before I even had my receipt signed. There was another lady there to seat you, who kept saying "how many, how many" to me and the guy behind me. That poor fella... the rest of his party was in the restroom and the lady seating us seems very distraught that he wanted to wait for them, and kept telling him "I take you to your seat". He finally just said "fine they can find me." The waitresses are not very friendly, but we had no complaints on the food, and that's what we were there for. It was cool and I probably would have left at least three stars... until we went to leave, this is where everything went downhill and if it was possible to leave less than one star, I would. The waitress started saying something about no tip. She began yelling slapping her hand on the table and waving her arms yelling about a tip. She then got another employee and the two of them began to cause another scene with me as I was trying to leave with my kids, telling me I couldn't leave until I left a tip. These two, along with two other employees followed my family out to the parking lot, to my vehicle yelling at us that we could not leave because we didn't leave a tip. I told my kids to get in the van and when my son tried to shut the door the one lady reached her arm in at my son and kept the door from shutting. She told us we could not leave and that she was going to call the police. my husband had put our four-year-old in his carseat why all this is happening oh, and when my husband tried to get in the vehicle she blocked him from opening the door. I called the store later that eveningregarding an excessive amount pending on my card and told him they had better change that amount because you can't just add whatever you want to somebody's card because that's a crime and they could be sued for it. I also told him that I did not appreciate the way my family was treated and that is completely unacceptable to reach into someone's vehicle. The manager told me that my son said a bad word and the lady reached in because my son needed to be disciplined. As if I wasn't shocked before! This lady thought she had a right to put her hands on my son?! My son did not say a bad word. When she reached into my vehicle he screamed for her to get away from him. It was absolutely the most humiliating and ridiculous situation I've ever experienced in my life. My kids were petrified. I posted a review on their Facebook page and made a post about what happened on my personal page that went viral. Next thing I know I'm getting a message from a lady I don't even know in West Virginia with a picture of my receipt along with the credit card transaction slip sent to her from a friend of hers in Florida, sent to him from the restaurant to prove that I did not pay a tip, as if not leaving a tip made it okay for them to treat us the way they did. The picture had my full name, partial credit card information and my signature, with nothing blacked out. I did not intentionally not leave a tip. Between being rushed upon entrance, the lady trying to ring up the next family before I even had my receipt signed, and the lady who seats you that kept asking "how many" to me and the guy behind us, I just simply did not write a tip on when I signed my receipt. It was an honest mistake. I'm a firm believer in tipping. I know this sounds like a completely made-up fabricated story. I assure you it is not. Please go to the Katana buffet & Grill Facebook page and read the reviews there. There are multiple reviews with very similar situations to ours. People accused of not leaving a tip, people being told they didn't leave enough tip, there's even one where they threw water on a patron for putting two tables together. I do not recommend this place. Food was dried up and no crab legs. Sushi bar don't have sashimi or raw orysters. Staffs eats out in the open while waiting on tables instead of taking their breaks in the break room. Very unprofessional in my opinion. The bathroom was horrible, very dirty and unsanitary!!! DO NOT EAT HERE- IT'S HORRIBLE. Hard to say which was worse: the food or the service. They didn't botch the sliced cucumbers but that's about all they got right with the food. The sushi... there were several different types (I tried 6 of them) but they all tasted the same- like old fish. They would be better used as bait to catch fresh fish which you could then give to a more talented chef to make actual sushi. The Chinese items I tried (sesame, honey and general's chicken) were starchy, gluten-filled little gut bombs. Fortunately, they're difficult enough to chew I doubt most customers will actually manage to swallow any. Shockingly, the food is much better than the service. You already heard about the texting hibachi burner, so we'll skip him. The waitress was mean and nasty. We had a group of 6 and pulled two tables together to have room. She quickly ran over and lectured us about how we were not allowed to do this. She then pulled it all apart and stormed off. I can see her point since only 3/4 of the tables were empty. She made up for it though by seating a screaming toddler right beside us. The look on her face when we all got up and moved to another table was so priceless it almost made enduring the sushi worth it. She actually went and told the manager- or at least we think that's why she kept pointing at us while whispering conspiratorially to her. In short, just don't eat here. Don't walk in at 3:40 thinking your getting the lunch price that they claim is good until 4 and don't go in after 8, they don't have anything left to eat that hasn't been passed over because of its condition. Most times, the dumplings are old and rubbery, they started watering down the wasabi, there are only two ladies that actually clear plates off your table and refill your drinks, the ceiling tiles are extremely filthy and at the hibachi there is dirty oil residue hanging from the ceiling waiting to drip into your food at any time. We actually found Katana by accident, and it's the best find we've had for a buffet in a long while. We drove in from the Akron/Fairlawn area, so it's not exactly close, but we've now been there 4 times and it has remained consistent since its grand opening. Other buffets we've frequented include Yellow Tail and Kumo and Katana is a refreshing change. The restaurant/buffet bar is clean, well-lit, the staff is accomodating and the selection is very generous. As the other reviewer noted, Katana doesn't drown the sushi in sauce like other places which is a huge gripe of mine. Presentation is impressive for a buffet and it's all very fresh with generous portions - some buffets slice the tuna so thin you can read through it - Katana's is quite thick, again, for a buffet . The hot food is also very good and soup selection is plentiful. If someone in your group wants good ol' American food, they have the usual fare. You can have a very fulfilling lunch for two adults under $20. Good enough that we're willing to drive the distance vs going to the local buffet 5 mins away. This place is indeed a hidden gem - We were in town for a bowling tournament and heard about this place. After driving 5 1/2 hours and day filled with craziness we were ready to freshen up and find some good food. Katana is not an easy place to find and you not believe it if you saw the parking lot. We did not come this far to let a plain not exciting view to deter us. Where was the crowd? They were ALL INSIDE THIS PLACE! Yes the servers were direct and pointed however they never left a table unattended and the food was plentiful hot and ready. Imagine a near capacity place servers ready to keep things moving. And if you have to question the price - don't come with nothing more than an expectation of enjoying good food. Forget the haters who talk about bossy waiters and overrunning toilets.
