    order estimated pickup

Shoutout to The Bear for exposing this place. Well deserved! One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had. I don't know how they got the egg to be so silky and soft. AND SQUARE. It reminded me of korean steamed egg soufflé. Bread was so soft and pillowy. Prob could've done without the cheese. It didn't really add anything for me. The longanisa sausage added a perfect chew factor against all the softness. It was a little salty for me but the egg helped balance it out. We ordered pick up and highly recommend doing that because the line for dine in was super long. Order right when online orders starts we were three minutes late and the queue was already at #77 One day I will be back for the black truffle croissant and salmon danish.

Their longanisa breakfast sandwich is just WOW and you gotta add the hash brown cause it adds a nice crunchy texture and elevates the sandwich so well. I ordered online for pickup at 8:45am on a Saturday, which I highly recommend if you don't have time to wait in line (which is super long LOL), and it was ready in 40mins. We picked up our order 30mins late, but the sandwich was still warm and delicious. The restaurant was packed inside, but staff were super friendly and attentive. We also tried the black truffle croissant and ube & huckleberry basque cake; both were good and unique. We would come back to try other dishes when we're back in Chi.

I've heard so much about Kasama. I'm glad I finally got to try. I can say that the longanisa breakfast sandwich was amazing, especially with the added hash brown! The ube huckleberry basque cake was also very good. However, I wish there was more ube flavor. The service was super friendly, and the atmosphere inside was very nice. I don't think I would wait more than 25 minutes, but I would definitely go back again or order ahead!

I was excited to go to Kasama as I heard great things. They were extremely busy but even so, the workers were so friendly and attentive. We bought a Manila Fog and Iced Black Sesame Latte. The flavour profiles were spot on, and didn't overpower the coffee's nuttiness. I also had the chance to try their Kafe-Mansi which was surprisingly good. The citrus profile of the calamansi made the drink so refreshing. I would love to try their food when I get the chance to visit again.

While visiting Chicago, we decided to check out this Michelin-star restaurant. We arrived around 10:00 a.m., which was admittedly a bit late on our part, and there was already a long line. After waiting about 30 minutes without much movement, we decided to place an online order instead and return later. Our order was ready between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., so be prepared for a wait during peak hours. The drinks were good, but they didn't particularly stand out to me. I personally preferred the Ube coffee over the tea-based drink. The breakfast sandwiches, however, were the highlight of our visit. They were incredibly flavorful, and the tocino paired perfectly with the other ingredients, making for a delicious and satisfying meal. One thing that could improve the experience would be having a staff member outside providing estimated wait times. Without any updates, it was difficult for guests to know how long the line would take, especially since the restaurant becomes very busy and closes relatively early. From what I could see, the interior looked beautiful, modern, and very clean. Overall, despite the long wait, the food was well worth trying. If you plan to visit, I recommend arriving early or placing an online order to save time.

Arrived before 9 AM and there was already a long line! We waited about 1.5 hours to be seated. You order and pay as you enter. The interior is modern and cozy, and service was attentive despite the crowd. The pastries were the highlight! The Salmon Danish was my favorite, followed by the Matcha Eclair--the crispy rice layer added such a nice texture. The Ube Huckleberry Basque Cake was also a hit. We also had the Filipino Breakfast and Chicken Adobo, which definitely satisfied our Filipino food cravings. Love seeing Filipino cuisine getting so much love from locals and visitors alike. And being Michelin-recognized makes it even more special. Definitely worth experiencing--just be prepared for the line!

Almost everyone I know who has been to Chicago told me to visit Kasama, and now I totally get why. They're a two michelin star modern filipino spot that's a bakery by day and a tasting menu restaurant by night. The line is almost always crazy long. Pro tip: place an online order right when they open in the morning so you can skip the line for pickup. I went close to 2pm, so I only waited about 15 minutes for brunch, but most of the pastries and breakfast sandwiches were already sold out. *Matcha Pandan Eclair $9.5 ** The biggest éclair I've ever seen! You get a mini version on their tasting menu, but the bakery sells this full-size beauty. My favorite pastry from the haul! I loved the crunch from the toasted genmai and the light pandan whipped cream. I just wish the matcha flavor was stronger. *Black Truffle Croissant $16 * Every bite was packed with black truffle flavor, and with fresh shaved black truffle, truffle oil, and a premium truffle filling, I could see why it costs $16. You also get a mini version on the tasting menu. But I wasn't a fan of the crunchy pearl sugar on top. I ended up shaving it all off. *Ube & Huckleberry Basque Cake $9 Loved the little powdered sun stencil inspired by the Philippine flag. It was filled with ube pastry cream and huckleberry. Personally, I found the filling too sweet for my liking. *Filipino Breakfast $20 ** I originally wanted their signature longanisa breakfast sandwich, but it was sold out, so the staff recommended this instead. Best recommendation ever, I even thanked them before I left! Every component was so thoughtfully done, especially the meats. Now I need to come back for the tasting menu. *Oh, Hot Yam $6.85 ** Hands down the best ube latte I've had. Super ube-forward with a hint of coconut sap that made it even more comforting on a chilly rainy day in Chicago.

We ordered around 9am on Saturday, and the earliest pickup time was for 1pm. It ended up being ready around 12:30, which was nice! A friend in line had just reached the front and had been waiting for 1.5 hours We got the truffle croissant (amazing, loved the truffle on top too for extra flavor!), whoopie pie (solid, very soft and fluffy), and the hand pie (pretty average, wouldn't get again). Unfortunately the ube basque cake was OOS by the time we ordered. I loved their coffees - each one was sooo good and flavorful. My favorite was the coconut cortado! We also got the ube latte and kalamansi espresso tonic - they were both excellent as well. I would definitely go back for the coffee!

WORTH IT AMAZING OMG. We ordered ahead and got a little bit of everything. The Hashbrown egg and cheese sandwich was amazing and then we also tried the ube cake, truffle croissant and the citrus pound cake: the pandan matcha eclair was sold out but everything else we had was more than enough and so delicious. Their iced coffee drinks were also delicious. The vibes were great inside and the staff were so friendly and nice!! I hope I can order from here again soon!

Came back for dine-in for breakfast with a group. There's always a line out the door, so luckily we were able to get in and grab a table right away because someone in our group lined up at 7am before they opened. Once you are in, you order at the counter. Eating in felt pointless to me because their menu is pretty limited and you can order the breakfast sandwich for takeout (one of their most popular items). Their pastries are decent but I've had better. The tarts were super refreshing and I loved the cream on top. I also ordered a hash brown, which was very similar to McDonald's but better. I don't think I'd come back here for breakfast, but I'd like to come back for their dinner since that's what got them the Michelin star.

This is a review of the dinner course. You know the scene in Ratatouille when Remy had Emile taste the cheese and strawberry together? Yes fireworks! That's how I felt with nearly every bite. The first one really set the tone for the entire experience. Silky coconut cream, bright acidity of passion fruit, delicate kampachi and the briny kaluga caviar-- wow! Other standouts were the pulutan, kare-kare and adobo. The desserts were a one-two-three punch absolute home run. Ambiance/interior is understated elegance. Warm wood tones, lush greenery, dim lighting, neutral palette. Service is 10/10 comparable to a 3 star. Really loved the pacing. 13 courses in two hours, never rushed , not a long lull in between. Recommend the San Miguel pilsner especially with the finger foods. Crisp and refreshing palate cleanser and perfect match for the savory flavors. Eating with the hands was a very thoughtful way to invite guests to a staple, cultural tradition rooted in community and shared enjoyment. Sharing the experience with a group of four made it even better!

    Longanisa Breakfast Sandwich

Kasama's been on my list for a few years but the long lines during brunch times deterred me from trying. I initially wanted to get a dinner reservation, but wasn't able to snatch one up even a couple weeks in advance. Spontaneously, my friend and I decided to go for lunch a couple Sundays ago. The weather conditions weren't great as it was raining moderately. This probably deterred at least some people from lining up. I got there around 12 PM and waited for about an hour, which is still long, but not as horrific as I thought. I also ended up with the last breakfast sandwich ticket since the group in front of me decided it wasn't worth it to wait in line so they gave it to me. This basically was the sign for me to stay in line. The ordering process was pretty simple. We ordered at the counter and prayed that there would be seats opened. Initially, we made ourselves comfortable at the bar, but we were able to migrate to a table shortly after. Our drinks came out within a few minutes after ordering and our food came out within 10. 12 OZ OH, HOT YAM! - 6.85 Initially, this was the drink I ordered. However, I thought it was too sweet and didn't feel like the ube flavor was that strong. My friend liked it more than the drink she ordered, so we ended up swapping. ICED BLACK SESAME LATTE - 6.85 This was the drink I swapped for, and the iced version was perfectly refreshing and nutty. It also wasn't too sweet. I would prefer a roastier black sesame flavor, but this was good enough. LONGANISA, EGG, AND CHEESE SANDWICH - 12 The breakfast sandwich didn't love like it'd be anything special, but the bun was incredibly soft and fluffy, with a custard, soft egg. The longanisa was well-seasoned, with the sweet & savory flavors bursting after each bite. I can see why the breakfast sandwiches at Kasama are so popular. Would highly recommend if you're able to snatch one. PORK BELLY ADOBO - 19.50 This item is weekend only, so I had to try it! I also love a good adobo rice. Despite it being pork belly, it was surprisingly not too heavy or fatty. The poached egg mixed in made each bite creamier. The pickled vegetables and chopped scallions were a nice touch to add a bit of tang and aromatics. I did take home half of the rice bowl home to enjoy for breakfast the next day. While this was good, it was probably the weakest of the three food items we ordered. FILIPINO BREAKFAST - 19 +1 for combo (longanisa and tocino) My friend ordered this, which came with a serving each of longanisa and tocino, a bed of garlic rice, sunny side up egg, pickled vegetables, and garnish. I had a bit of both meats, and the tocino was definitely my favorite. It was juicy, a good mix of sweet and savory -- reminded me of the Cantonese BBQ pork belly. I would definitely order something with tocino upon future visit. This was a pricy lunch, but the food was good and tasted cleaner than I had expect. I had a great time trying brunch at Kasama and would love to visit for their dinner menu when I'm in Chicago again.

Salmon danish, cardamom bun, banana bread, cheesecake

Visiting Chicago and pretty much EVERYONEEEEE recommended this place and honestly I can see why! There was a 2 hour wait on a Saturday morning and ooooof you're going be baking in the sun (no patio, no shade, no umbrellas) so come prepared with hats, umbrellas and water!! Usually when I wait that long for something I get extra harsh on critique like my god you better be worth the wait.... And unfortunately this place WAS actually that good where I couldn't even be mad. Filipino breakfast combo ($20)-- has both longanisa sausage and tocino, suuuuper savory and goes great with their garlic rice and sunny side up egg. It's one of those things that's just so simple but so soooo good when done right. Pork belly adobo ($20)-- weekends only! braised pork belly with garlic rice and sunny side up egg. This is similar to a Taiwanese Lu rou fan. It was slightly sweet with the savory. It gets kind of fatty/greasy after a while but once you add some chili and vinegar from the basket it's all good !!! Longanisa breakfast sandwich ($12)-- didn't add the hash brown but that was an option! Soft bread, fluffy egg, cheese and longanisa... again so simple but sooooo good! The Longanisa in this was like a meat patty vs the sausage in the breakfast plate. Same name but different enough I promise! Didn't feel like I got a duplicate or anything like the textures are different! For pastries... forgot the price-- Salmon danish: Weekend only! Wish we got more!! It was perfectly light and savory. Doesn't have that strong fishy smell and the flavor was so good. Smoked salmon, cream cheese, fish roe... how could it not be good!! Cheesecake: SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! Again, should've ordered more!! Not all cheesecakes are created equal but THIS ONEEEEE was so so good. The crust:filling ratio was perfect. It was rich and creamy. Doesn't mix in cake/filler like some other places. Just good, pure, classic cheesecake with some good fruit on top. Cardamom bun: Texture kind of like breakfast bun/kougn amann but tastes like a light pumpkin spice, thanksgiving. Goes great with coffee I'm sure!! This flavor profile in general isn't really my thing but my friend loved it !! Banana bread: Really not the most aesthetic thing. It's almost kinda ugly in pictures ... but what it lacks it makes up for in TASTEEE. I should've gotten a cross section but there's dark chocolate and nuts and the banana flavor is there and sweetens everything so nicely. Also, you order at the counter and they'll bring it to you at the table in order of drinks then pastries then food. Not sure how it works if you want to order more tbh like if you finish eating and want more dessert. Would I wait 2 hours again? Unfortunately probably yeah. Since I'm a visitor it's not like I can go during off hours/random weekdays etc. And everything was soooo good I'd definitely come again next time I'm back!!

If I place an order but pick up times says 5pm, would they open the door after 3pm for online pick up orders?

    I don't think so tbh

Did they change their online options? I don't see the breakfast sandwich as a option for ordering online anymore?

The sandwiches are listed on the online ordering on my end. Make sure you're on the "Food" tab. If the sandwiches are sold out, which is common, they will be marked as "Out of Stock". Hope this helps!

I've seen a couple of recent reviews saying they came by on a Tuesday but the website says they're not open that day. Can someone clarify? We are passing through Chicago Mon-Tuesday the end mo & was looking forward to picking some goodies up.

I'm assuming you're referring to their bakery/daytime service and not their reservation only dinner. Unless anything has changed, I don't believe they are open at all on mon/tues

Wondering what type of meat is in longganisa? Thanks

Most Filipino longganisa are made with pork, but a variety of it can also be made by chicken & beef

I plan to visit Kasama on Dec 5 Wednesday before I head out to the airport! what time should I be there with my luggage and all? lol…

I recommend you preorder your food online for pickup just in case there's a line for dining in. And there probably will be, especially depending on when your flight is. There's always an opportunity to add food to your order when picking up too

If you had to choose between breakfast or dinner, which would you choose? I know scoring dinner resos are a feat in itself, and ofc both are diff experiences. But visiting CHI and trying to figure out which one to do if we can get resos.

If you are able to get a reservation for dinner, do it! We chose the breakfast route. it was definitely worth it! Very delicious! Depending on the day the line is usually pretty long even 1 hour before opening!

Is this kid friendly? Do they have high chairs?

Is there a dress code at Kasama?

Nope! I went there right after bouldering with a friend and we were still in our climbing clothes. Everyone else was also in a wide assortment of clothing

Do you have to wait in long lines just to buy pastries?

    Yes

What's the recommended time to go on a weekend morning to get ahead of the line? I don't mind waiting, just wanna be in and eating right at 9!

If you want to be in and eating right when they open on a weekend, you should be there by 8am the LATEST. When I went at 7:00am on the dot I was the first in line, so probs 7-7:30am if you really wanna be first in line. 8:30am is too late in my…

For the coffee drinks (lattes), do they have non-dairy milk? Almond or coconut milk?

    Yes!

Can you put the cheesecake and tart in the fridge to save for later or would it not taste as good and get soggy?

I actually left it on the counter and it was still good the next day for the tart.

Are kids allowed? My husband and I want to try this restaurant badly and plan to visit Chicago for this however childcare is an issue since we have a 6 year old

    Kids are allowed yes

Is there a dinner option where you can just order a La carte from the menu instead of participating in the 13 course tasting menu?

    Nope

How long can you expect to be seated for the 13 course tasting menu?

Not sure if you mean how long it takes to be seated at your table or how long you're going to be spending there but I will answer both! I was seated immediately upon arrival and I think we spent roughly 2.5 hours there :)

Are any of their dishes or pastries vegan?

Hey! Justin. Sorry none of their dishes are vegan/vegetarian Pastries honest not 100% sure if they have vegan options.…

Is there an outdoor sitting available?

There was designated outdoor seating for Kasama (more than 2 tables) when I went beginning of June 2022

They accept solo diners for dinner and how far can reservations be made?

Reservations are made through an online system, Resy. Just have the notify on for the date that you want and you just wait. Luckily, I was able to get one but setup my Notify on a month in advance. As you as you get that notification, grab it right…

What is the price of the 13 course fine dining experience?

We went for a tasting for 2, got 3 drinks and a coffee and our total was $531 without tip.

Can they accommodate gluten free diet?

I was so happy to discover Bayan Ko Diner, a vibrant fusion of two rich culinary cultures -…read moreFilipino and Cuban - within walking distance of our ceramics class. My daughter and I came here for the first time last month on the last day of our summer session, and we returned a few days ago on the first day of our fall session. I love the beautiful, trendy décor, with Filipino and Cuban wall art displayed on opposite walls. The restaurant is clean, comfortable, and inviting. Our first visit was a solid four stars. The service was good, although not particularly memorable. The food was good overall, but not everything was a hit. We ordered: - Lumpia Shanghai ($7 for 1/2 order, 2 pieces) - Filipino spring rolls with pork, scallion, and Mom's garlic sauce. The skin was crunchy and the filling was flavorful, although the rolls were quite small. - Adobo Wings ($16 for 1/2 order) - crispy fried chicken wings with adobo glaze, served with rice. The wings were delicious, but we received 5 drumettes and only 1 flat. We would have preferred more flats, or at least an equal number of flats and drumettes. - Bistek ($20 for 1/2 order) - Korean beef short rib with Spanish onions, served with rice. The meat was full of flavor, but unfortunately quite tough. My daughter wasn't a fan, so I ended up finishing the whole thing. I was actually glad this was a small portion. I had a Virgin Pandan Mojito ($10) and my daughter had a beer ($8). My mocktail was okay, but nothing particularly memorable. Then they completely redeemed themselves on our second visit! We had the entire restaurant to ourselves at first, before two other tables arrived, so I had more time to appreciate the space and really enjoyed the atmosphere. A special shout-out to our server, Christopher, who was warm, welcoming, extremely friendly, and professional. My daughter ordered their signature cocktail, Lola's Drunk Again ($15), but then realized she might be allergic to one of the ingredients. Fortunately, she hadn't taken a sip. Christopher and another lady, who isn't always there, graciously took the cocktail away without charging us. My daughter then ordered a different cocktail, El Toro ($14), which she enjoyed. I just had an orange juice ($4). We ordered the following, and enjoyed everything: - Croquetas ($6 for 1/2 order, 2 pieces) - smoked jamón with Jufran aioli. The exterior was crunchy, while the filling was delicious, creamy, and not too salty. I would definitely order these again. - Ropa Empanada ($8 for 1/2 order, 2 pieces) - beef brisket, sofrito, and mojo crema. The crust was a little thick, but crunchy and easy to eat. The beef inside was tender and flavorful. - Ropa Vieja ($17 for 1/2 order) - beef brisket in sofrito, served with rice, black beans, and sweet plantains, which we requested to be served on the side. Even the half portion was quite generous. This was perfect comfort food - flavorful, filling, and satisfying. There was an abundance of shredded beef, and it was tender, tasty, and easy to cut apart. - Ube Ice Cream ($5 per scoop) - Since we were already full, we shared a scoop. We didn't order the banana split, but Christopher gave us a really generous scoop, which was much appreciated. The ube flavor was excellent, and the ice cream was creamy with a nice texture. I would definitely order this again. Overall, all the dishes we tried on our visits had bold, distinct flavors, and the ingredients tasted fresh. We already can't wait to come back and try a whole bunch of other dishes! Bayan Ko Diner will definitely become our go-to spot after ceramics class!

Then we ordered the lechon whole portion but we had such a good day that we did not want to sour the day and send it back it was supposed to be crispy pork but instead it was a plate of pork fat pieces - maybe 10% meat. We took the leftovers to our dog as he will eat anything. The wings were really good I'll say. The croqueras were okay Id say; not the freshest or maybe the oil was dirty. Cute place however.

I ordered the daily special, which consisted of chicken and rice, along with their fried pork spring rolls and sizzling sisig. Everything was absolutely delicious, with bold, robust flavors in every dish. For this being my introduction to Filipino food, I definitely was not disappointed. My only complaint is that it's an hour away from my house! This is definitely a must-try if you're looking for some great Filipino food.

This was a great, cozy spot to try a different take on Filipino food. Being a Filipina myself, I'm…read moretorn between labeling it because I feel like some of the dishes are more Filipino-inspired while others are definitely elevated-Filipino. Either way, it's a good place to try a twist on your favorites or dip into something new. I especially appreciated that there were a lot of vegetarian options which is hard to find in Filipino food, like our "veggie" lumpia usually has small bits of meat in it, lol. We were warmly welcomed, seated relatively quickly, and the service was attentive and timely. The place is cozy and on the dark side so my pics aren't the greatest. We had the Inihaw ng Talong which is basically grilled eggplant that came brushed with sunflower butter, loaded with tomatoes and garnished with cilantro. This was a nice start but a small one. The eggplant was smoky and creamy and complimented by the bright tomatoes. The Satti Manok, skewered grilled chicken, with cornbread sticky rice was good, but I've definitely had better for a lot less. This is usually a staple you'll find at any Filipino family's BBQ but the cornbread sticky rice was a surprisingly nice treat. If you've had this before, somewhere else, I'd skip it to try something else. The Sinigang Caesar was such a nice twist that totally made sense! My only complaint is that it was served with Bibb lettuce instead of a crunchy romaine. I enjoyed this so much I've been making my Caesar dressings with a sprinkling of Sinigang powder now and my family loves it. The Kare Kare gulay was nice and I enjoyed it. The charred cabbage gave it some extra depth that I think is needed to pull this off because this sauce is made with sunflower butter instead of peanut butter. This was great for me because I'm allergic to peanuts but it definitely changes the flavor, making it a little sweeter and lighter. I wish they would've made this with cashew or almond butter to keep it closer to the rich, deep flavors of a Kare Kare. The Maitake mushrooms -- I absolutely loved. I've never had this before and it reminded me of a good Laing which is also made with a spiced coconut sauce. I definitely could've eaten this all to myself with the garlic rice. Yes, the garlic rice is good but I was surprised to see it go for $6 a bowl. Rice is usually so cheap, if not complementary in Filipino restaurants and garlic rice is quite common, especially for breakfast (yes, I sabreakfast). It was cooked perfectly though. The mango float was delicious. Not sure why it's called a float but it was mango and mascarpone ice cream nestled in a mango sauce and topped with a delicate, crumbly butter cookie. I will definitely come back for more if I'm ever in the area again. I'd be excited to try other things on their menu.

It's small, but clean. They offer carry-out dishes along with some grab-and-go items. I ordered the lechon (pork) combo. It was almost twenty bucks with water and a tip for the good service. Not cheap, but considering what you get, it's worth it. Pork perfectly cooked. I tasted one of the sauces, and my lips puckered. Maybe the most tart thing I ever tasted. But then I dipped the pork into both sauces. OMG! That's orgasmic. My mouth still waters just thinking about how good that is. Bonus: the pork skin is almost like candied bacon. I've been back several times, and I'll keep going, too. As much as I want to try other items on the menu, the lechon is just too freaking good, and I keep ordering it.

I had the oxtail combo plate. Plate comes with tice, 2 pcs eggrolls, and noodles. Im a bit disappointed the taste was good but rhe oxtail wasnt tender at all. Felt like i wasted this order. I also ordered their lechon belly and that wqs really good although some parts of the skin wqsnt as crunchy. I would still go back and try more stuff. Happy eating!!!

I don't think I've had a meal this good in a long time…read more I'm usually hesitant about Asian fusion restaurants, but Cuban-Filipino sounded interesting enough for me to take the chance--and I'm so happy I did. Every dish was sexy. My favorite was the arroz caldo: a black rice porridge with lobster. It was salty without crossing into oversalted, and it tasted warm, homey, and comforting while still feeling incredibly elevated. The wagyu melted in my mouth and was easily my second favorite. The octopus came in third - it was cooked and charred perfectly. The tamales and pork were also so mf good: crispy, flavorful, and just extremely satisfying. Dessert was amazing too. It wasn't overly sweet and had this mochi-like texture on the inside with a cake/brownie-crust texture around the edges. So fucking good. Even the cocktails were great. I rarely visit fine-dining restaurants twice, but this place was so good that I genuinely feel like I have to come back. They rotate the tasting menu, although this particular lineup was so perfect that I can't imagine how they'll create another set of dishes just as amazing. My only criticism is the timing between courses. Some of the waits felt longer than they should have, and tightening that up would make the entire experience feel even more polished. Other than that: really, really good. Everyone needs to try it.
