My family absolutely loved Bar Tutto. The second we heard Joe Flamm, we were in. We had a little b-day celebration here and it was the perfect atmosphere to do so. Great service as well. From the February menu, we got the Muscle crostino (unbelievable), the Roasted Carrot Salad, two white sauce pastas, one red sauce pasta, and the Bavette Steak. We split everything family style. All the pastas were so fantastic, we felt the need to go around the table and rank them (which was incredibly difficult). Despite high reviews from the staff, we weren't crazy about the Roasted Carrots. Some flavors there that we didn't like. Everything else was absolutely outstanding. Love the concept and decor. Walked in at the bar without resos as we were told they were full but there were a ton of tables open at the front. Trevor the bartender said they were running a light service and those tables would stay empty - interesting for a Thursday night and he seemed slammed anyway. Ordered the rigatoni and bucatini to share. Bucatini was really good, I thought it wild mild but friend thought it was spicy. Would order again. I was between the rigatoni and fusilli and was told rigatoni all the way. Friends - it was SO salty, like they added salt to the sauce even with the guanciale. I had a similar play on cacio dish at il carciofo, sister restaurant, and was also too salty and now a pattern with this type of dish. I really like the concept of Bar Tutto in terms of how they are trying to mimic the all-day cafes in Italy. I came by for their cafe portion on a Wednesday afternoon and had a lovely experience! The ambiance is very bright and open-air, which was lovely for getting some work done on a sunny day. They had a good amount of seating both inside and outside, with solid Internet and outlets throughout. I got the Banana Cruffin and Cortado. The cruffin was yummy but very sweet--it got too heavy with all of the cream near the end. I did enjoy the banana flavor, but I think it could have done with less cream on top. The cortado was just okay. I felt like the espresso quality was poor, and it was super overpriced. The service was fine; I felt that the employees could have been friendlier, but they were at least efficient. All in all, I would come back just because of how much I liked the study environment, but I think the other elements are more forgettable. read more

First off, love how open and spacious this spot is and appreciate the option the all-day cafe. Service was attentive and so many options to choose from on the menu. I am not a huge fan of pasta but can appreciate that these were hand made, I thought the noodles were prepared well not too mushy and sauces were flavorful but not too heavy, well balanced. My standout dish was the mortadella sandwich, I'm a sucker for a cold cut sandwhich and the bun was perfect with this. I'm so glad I tried this new restaurant, I absolutely loved the atmosphere here. I thought it was really cool how they had a cafe in the front, I would definitely come back to get some work done here. We had a reservation so we were seated promptly. Our server was so nice and gave us a rundown of the menu since this was our first time here. I ended up getting the Porchetta Schiacciata which was such an amazing sandwich. The pancake was such a classic but done really well, and the Tutto Breakfast felt like you were getting a little bit of everything, which made it even more fun to share and try. Bar tutto came in hot and is definitely one of my favorite new spots i tried in chicago this year the food, the drinks, and the ambiance were all top tier ... and i really loved the interior decor, open kitchen, and table layout of the restaurant. it felt almost parisian, even though the menu featured more creative italian dishes started with the roasted carrot salad - highly, highly recommend! "salad" is not doing the dish justice...the date vinaigrette, crushed pistachios, orzo, and burrata in the center added so many layers of flavors and textures to the vegetarian dish, so yum! radiatore is becoming my favorite pasta shape and bar tutto's fennel sausage version didn't disappoint. creamy, salty, and very umami - i added pepper just because but honestly the dish was great on its own. bavette steak took me by surprise. when i saw it on the menu, i expected a standard steak frites. however, it came with the steak sliced and plated on top of the thin fries, with a peperonata sauce / gravy ladled over. The sauce was fantastic, and gave the traditional steak frites dish a fun twist. the gravy-like sauce over the fries felt almost like a poutine . there was also a garlic aioli on the side which added an element of creaminess to the dish ended the night with their toffee cheesecake. very well balanced and not too sweet. the cake was rich and creamy, and with the crunchiness from the graham cracker crumbs on top as well as the nuttiness from the toffee swirls on top, it just kept me going back for more. spoonful after spoonful. special shoutout to their pecorino white wine - best glass of white i've had in a while! definitely coming back to try their brunch next time! read more

West Loop keeps expanding with new spots, so I decided to try this one slightly away from the busy Randolph Street strip. The area itself is quieter, but surprisingly, the inside was very loud--so loud that we had to almost scream to talk. We eventually left to find a quieter place to hang out. I understand it leans more toward a bar vibe, but it felt excessively loud and also a bit cold inside. That said, it's probably a good spot for drinks if you tend to get warm. Food-wise, it was solid. Service was excellent. The pasta was slightly undercooked but still flavorful, and the lobster was fresh. The cod was just okay, and the artichokes were a bit too burnt. I did enjoy the thin-cut French fries--those were great. The green tea stood out as well, not your typical tea bag and not overly strong. Huge fan of all the restaurants Chef Joe Flamm has opened (Rose Mary and il Carciofo), so had to try this spot. We went on the second day it opened, and the space was packed. Concept is an "all day" spot where you can grab coffee in the morning, have pastries and other food, and in the evening get dinner and enjoy a nightcap. There's plenty of seating and the space is lit - heads up it's not one of those super dark and moody places. Highlights: -toffee cheesecake: absolutely delicious. The texture was moist, not too dense, and the toffee on top was *chefs kiss* -roasted carrot salad: this was so fun. Each bite was different and I loved the crunchy pistachios, the chewy orzo, and the smooth burrata. All in all a top salad -great wine list, and something for everyone Meh / Pass: -bavette steak: it was not cut properly, so loads of pieces just stuck together and all around felt pretty sloppy. The shoestring fries were delicious and that smoked garlic aioli sauce was spectacular -gnocco fritto: each piece was pretty inconsistent and it was hard to chew / cut. Been here twice - first time back in February on a Thursday evening for dinner - 2 of us shared the Lola Rossa Salad - perfectly dressed and yummy pistachios; then ordered the pesto pasta - FANTASTIC!!! Our fave dish of the night!!! I don't even like pesto pasta but this is by far the best in the city! Then we had the steak and frites - delish! Next day we went for brunch on. Saturday- pretty busy so we sat at the bar - bar tender was great - she was super attentive and made great drinks! She made a carajillo that my friend said was one of the best carajillo's she's had! Again we split the antipasto salad which was yummy and hearty; then of course we got the pesto pasta - again, best dish! And split the porchetta sandwich. This was ok - needed more pickled onions because it was a rich meat on a rich ciabatta (maybe a different bread) bc it also has a delish aioli). Came for dinner with my friend and ordered the Roasted Carrot Salad (excellent), Rigatoni (slightly too al dente for our taste), and Bavette Steak (cooked perfectly). We came back for brunch a couple of days later, ordered the Carrot Salad again, the Pancake is sooo good (I'm not even really into pancakes) but the Prociutto Omelette was not my favorite. Something strange about warm prociutto, perhaps bacon or guanciale would have been better for texture and flavor. Orange juice was fresh! I need to come back and try brunch though for a full picture. Ambiance is airy and was bustling at dinner time. Our server explained everything to us and offered recommendations. My favorites were the steak frites and the rigatoni. Rose Mary still reigns supreme in my book but Bar Tutto is certainly a great addition to the neighborhood offering a more accessible and still nice dining experience. We did not have a good experience at Bar Tutto this evening. The ambience is LOUD. It was not "exciting." It was not fun. It was difficult to hear the person next to you, let alone across the table. It was not an enjoyable atmosphere. The service was slow. The waiter was somewhat inattentive and it took 45 min between the salad and main course to receive our food. As it turns out it would have been better had the main dishes never come out as they were terrible. I had the fusilli, which was bland. My wife had the Bucatini, which was so hot/spicy as to be nearly inedible. The menu lists calabrian chili as an ingredient, but we have this all the time without this degree of spice. The total bill was $245 for 4 people. Obviously not a good value given the food quality. Although I've really enjoyed other Joe Flamm restaurants in the past, this is one place to avoid. read more

My friend & i sat at the chefs table, which although it was pretty hot at times (they keep a wood fire going at all times), it was really interesting to observe the chefs at work. Our server was friendly & available. We started w the carrot orzo salad w burrata. Really lovely cold salad & the burrata added lots of indulgent bites. It went so deliciously w our barbera. I got the steak frites & my friend got a pasta w Italian sausage. I thought the cook on the steak was perfect but sat atop far too many fries.. they got cold & soggy before i could enjoy them all. I really like the layout and ambiance -- it definitely has a hotel vibe, but more European than typical. If I lived nearby, this would be a regular stop for a quick bite, coffee, or a drink. My first visit was for brunch, and I'd absolutely come back for dinner. The menu is strong overall, with a lot of appealing options. The fries are a must-order and a clear highlight. The tortellini in brodo was very good but extremely rich -- definitely something to split between two or three people. The space is beautiful but we thoroughly enjoyed eating at the chef's counter to watch them prepare dinner (vs. facing rest of restaurant). And I have to say, I wasn't sure what to expect with them being new, but they knocked it outta the park with the food.
