Just left piccolo Sogno. After 20 some years of good food we left after returning two appetizers; prosciutto crudo e melone, and fried octopus and shrimps. The prosciutto was old and dried out and the melone all 3mm x 6 cm and 6 pieces was not even ripe not even green was absolutely tasteless. The only saving grace is they comped the bottle of wine (good). And everything else. We did have exemplary service and food on Valentine's Day. Note also that in three months the menus does not seem to have changed. Has the kitchen or the management changed? read more

I first met chef Tony Priolo back in 2008 while managing events at RedNoFive, when he was preparing to open this spot on what many of us called, the "cursed corner" in West Town. Several restaurants had tried before--but this one truly made it. (#hattrick...he'll get it, as an authentic Blackhawks hockey fan). The food is consistently outstanding, with seasonal updates that keep the menu fresh. The pastas are the real stars: "Straw and Hay" (Paglia e Fieno), lasagna, ravioli with pine nuts, and especially the Spaghetti Neri or Sapore di Mare. All pasta is freshy made daily and authentically aligned with the chef's direction. If reservations are full on a busy weekend, grab a seat at the bar! "Bartender Tony" is fantastic--he remembers guests (and my preferred red wine) and always makes the space feel welcoming. As a tennis fan, I've spent many days chatting with him during matches. I am polish, and sports were a big part of my bond with my dad, who passed many years ago; Tony has been an unexpected anchor for me, in this realm. Piccolo Sogno was an absolutely phenomenal experience and such a special night. From the moment we sat down, everything felt warm, intimate, and thoughtfully done. I ordered the Rosticciana with braised beef short ribs, local white corn polenta, sautéed greens, red wine, and aromatic vegetables. The short ribs were incredibly tender and full of flavor, and the polenta paired perfectly with the richness of the dish. My boyfriend got the Maiale al Latte, a Berkshire pork shank stewed with milk and fennel over mashed potatoes with Tuscan kale and pancetta, and it was just as amazing. Comforting, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We ended the night with dessert, and it was the perfect finishing touch to an already incredible meal. The staff was excellent attentive, kind, and genuinely made the evening feel special. Overall, it was such a nice, sweet night with outstanding food and service. My family and I had reservations here last night before heading to a concert at the United Center. We drove and used their valet service, which was a nice touch and made arriving stress-free. We got there right as the restaurant opened for our 5:30 reservation, so we grabbed a drink at the bar while waiting for the rest of our party. The bartender was friendly and made an excellent Aperol spritz and old fashioned. The interior is cozy and moody in the best way, such a warm, inviting atmosphere. I'd love to come back during the warmer months to experience their outdoor seating. The menu is on the smaller side, but every item feels thoughtful and unique. Our entire group ended up ordering from the specials: the Cacio e Pepe and the risotto. Everyone loved their dish. I had the Cacio e Pepe and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's one of those dishes that's deceptively simple but easy to get wrong, and they nailed it--the cheese-to-pepper ratio was perfect, and the texture of the green noodles was such a fun touch. We finished the night by sharing the tortino dessert, which was a hit with all of us. Overall, I'm really glad we chose Piccolo Sogno for our pre-concert dinner. The calamari was delicious, she had the lasagna, and I had the Risotto. The food was 10/10. The service was excellent, and our waiter Eric was great! I definitely plan to visit again soon. And inside the restaurant it's having a tasteful layout and I love that the ambiance it's romantic with not so much light. The service it's always impeccable. This place may have the nicest back patio in the city! So big and spacious and laced with lights above. I've often heard about the awesomeness of this space and finally came by for a bday dinner recently! Our server Leonardo was such a good dude with a great sense of humor and took extra good care of us! Food was really good! We started with the Pesche salad which was a great started. Includes arugula, goat cheese, peaches and lemon oil..fantastic! Ravioli Piccolo Sogno was exceptional as it includes four cheese ravioli, pine nuts, butter, marsala glaze and parmesan curls. The Halibut Al Forno was delicious as well! The portions are a nice size and they are more than willing to split everything into 2 plates if you are sharing. Piccolo Songo has a lovely patio and a great location. Right off the El plus a small valet lot onsite. Valet is not free, but he was very nice and I didn't have to hunt for parking in a busy area at sometime. Wine menu is fantastic. Lots of good options. My food was okay. In defense of the establishment, our options were limited on an event pre-set menu. If I went back I'd try other things. The presentation of the salad was lovely. I came here to celebrate my birthday, and it was a really disappointing experience. From the beginning, it felt like our table was being ignored. We had to wait for basic service(water, bread, order our actual meals), and it seemed like everyone else was getting more attention than we were. On top of that, there was an odd attitude from the staff that made us feel unwelcome. Birthdays are supposed to be special, and unfortunately this experience was anything but. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect to be treated with courtesy and not feel overlooked. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and works on providing consistent, respectful service to all guests. Can't emphasize enough that I am disappointed because I was excited to come here and I didn't leave thrilled. Hopefully, the next person has a better experience. read more

I had heard Piccolo Sogno was great but was absolutely blown away by how beautiful the outdoor space is - I think this is the best patio in the entire city! The menu is well rounded and classic for Italian, and everything was delicious. We split everything and tried a bunch of dishes. My favorite appetizer was the caprese, one of my favorites from the whole menu. Salads were also good but small, but the calamari was a substantial portion for an appetizer. We split several entrees - the ravioli and the gnocchi were favorites, but I also really loved the pappardelle, cacio e Pepe, and prosciutto pizza. Everything was good! The best dessert was by far the almond blueberry cake, the chocolate was a close second. I would definitely come back here! They had some nice specials and minestrone soup was one of them and it was delicious. Another special was risotto and a ragu which was perfectly prepared. We had another great meal at Piccolo Sogno yesterday. When we gather like this, with eight friends and family, we like to eat family style so we all shared in some really great dishes. We started with the Caprese, which was absolutely delicious, the heirloom tomatoes, and buffalo mozzarella with basil was loved by all. The Pesche with fresh peaches, combined with goat cheese, arugula and a bright lemon oil topping was my favorite starter. The Barbabietole, Burrata and Funghi Al Forno were fantastic too. I loved the mushrooms!! For our main dishes, we had the ravioli which our grandson loved with its buttery Marcella glaze and pine nuts! The Paglia E Fiona was my bride's favorite. We also had the Pappardelle with a wild boar Ragu, which was one that our grandson really loved. We had the risotto special with bits of prosciutto and mushrooms in it, one of the best risotto I've had. The Rosticcana had a delicious and tender portion of short ribs over a wonderful polenta. My daughter's favorite was the Halibut Al Forno, the halibut was absolutely delicious. We closed out with one of every dessert. Shared among the group the chocolate/hazelnut lava cake was awesome, but so were nearly all of the others. The maître D gave our grandson a tour of the kitchen, and he came back with a bowl full of strawberry ice cream. He couldn't have been more excited. The fantastic service and friendly staff really helped make the night. We also tried their signature cocktails, along with several martinis in our group. We ordered 2 kids meal, Mama Luca's Meatballs, Yellow Tre Carne pizza, Pappardelle with Short Ribs Bolognese, and Piccolo's Chopped Salad. The Meatballs were tender and the kids loved it. I wasn't sure what to expect of the Yellow pizza. I didn't taste much difference with the yellow sauce. The Tre Carne was too salty together. Everyone loved the Pappardelle especially the kids. The Chopped Salad taste as expected, but the portion was big for one person. The also very helpfully placed strong flavored like olives and onions on the side, which was good since the kids are not a big fan of either. Both the dining room and outdoor patio are inviting to eat good Italian food. My friend ordered Beef short ribs, which she said were very good. I ordered Charred Octopus which was very tasty and not tough. We split the spinach lasagna in a light tomato bechamel sauce. Heavenly and not too spicey. Chef Tony makes all pastas by hand. A big group of 12 of us had a reservation booked prior for a Friday night for a friend's farewell dinner. Inspite some of us being late, we got the table on time. Romantic, intimate, incredible service is what I would describe about the atmosphere. You are transported to a rustic italian antique house upon entering the restaurant. The service was a little confusing at times, but professional and courteous. The food will warm you. There were so many fun things to try. We shared ravioli, roasted potatoes, margerhita pizza, burrata. While the food was good, but it was not exceptional compared to prior times I had eaten it. However, their wine collection is pristine and pairs well with just about anything on rhe menu. We ordered a bottle of red and white wine each. I enjoyed the wine a lot. Between my friend and I, we finished the entire bottle of Chardonnay. They were reasonably priced and it is definitely a heavy pour if ordering by the bottle. I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the tiramisu on the menu any longer so we ended up ordering the lemon panna cotta and the mille fogile which was pretty good. Overall, a great experience...
