Tonight's meal was outstanding! The beef broth I read about was lovely, and I might actually try making it at home. The steak and shrimp were wonderful, and that salsa served with the chips was like nothing I have tasted before. To top it all off, the service was amazing, and the environment was so welcoming. We had a filet mignon (filet mignon / flame of yawn) with shrimp and two beers, which came out to about $48 USD. The food is truly outstanding, especially for the price. Carne en su jugo dish was savory ( whole beans, beef, crunchy bacon bites, cilantro and onions)- pretty close to the one I tasted at the famous Karne en su Jugo restaurant at Guadalajara. I suggest you order a side of corn tortillas , the dish comes with flour tortillas. First off, this place was in the middle of nowhere. No action nearby, nothing else to do. The interior is nicely done and it has an inviting atmosphere. The service is good, and they have menus in English. That's enough to get you going with the wait staff, provided you know just a bit of Spanish. The problem is the food. This idea of cooking meat in it's own juice is highly overrated. The reason is the meat doesn't get seared. It gets stew-like - not soft like stewed meat, but unseared like stewed meat. Who wants stew-like fajitas? Well, that's what we got. For 2 beers and 2 beef fajitas, with miniscule sides of avocado, crema (sour cream - that tasted like it was 90% mayo), and "grilled onions" that were grilled for maybe 10 seconds, it was $52 before tip. Felt like a rip off. Plus we had to pay for taxi to and from this place, because there is nothing else to do in the area. So more like $68 with transportation. Next time we'll eat someplace where the action is, on Revolucion. read more

The service has changed. And not in a very good way. I miss the old staff. The manager, Frank, however was accommodating. I had ordered a corn chowder (crema de elote), and I really didn't like it. I tried to just eat it but I couldn't do it. It was way too sweet and it was super thin. It didn't have the characteristics of a chowder. It was such an odd flavor too. It was like a mixture of sugar and hot milk with a hint of maíz. So, I asked him if he could change it for something else and if not, it was okay; but he was nice about switching it for a tortilla soup. Which was delicious! The tortilla soup was 10/10. * I was supposed to get beans and rice with my soup and I didn't * When I was given my soup though, this guy named Jorge brought it to me in such an angry way. He was like "DO U THINK YOU'LL LIKE THIS!?" As he aired the aroma of the soup in my face. It was so awkward. I was so uncomfortable. And I was just staring at him blankly... he served it and then stormed out. What was the point of that? I don't know. I'm sorry I didn't want to eat something I didn't like? Our server was a nice young lady [whom didn't share her name with us]. The only downside was that she didn't check on us at all. After we ordered our food and drinks, she basically disappeared from our table. But she kept checking on the other tables right in front of us... This is why Frank swapped my soup. & We also had to ask for limes and tortillas several different times. And didn't get them until everyone was done eating. And we got t h r e e tortillas. In a table of 5. Three tortillas. (Good thing everyone was done eating right). And we asked for the check and waited 20 minutes for another server to bring it.. It's so good that I found myself missing LA's Mexican food WHILE LIVING IN MEXICO. But this place knocks it out of the park!!! The meat is juicy, the salsa kicks, the tortillas are home-made, the beans are velvety, and every bite had me saying "damn." EVERY BITE. Their signature dish is a must-try... it tastes like thin slices of brisket in a flavorful, nourishing broth. I had never tried anything like it (I was told it's a regional dish from Jalisco).
