Chille relleno camarón ajillo. Muy rico!

This was my first time here and it was so good. I also had cafe de olla but forgot to take a picture. The fresh flour tortillas were delicious. We received the best service. The authentic ambiance was traditional Mexican. I will be back!

Soooo good! Our waiter was spectacular (Iraís) and the omelette with avocado was enough for 2 people. I recommend the Green juice and the café de ola. If you have time just go and enjoy! The homemade tortillas were also amazing. I would also the cheesecake pineapple with coconut. It is to die for!!

Carne asada, eggs, chilaquiles and refried beans. So yum!

This is our go to breakfast spot any time we're in T.J. They servers are so nice, the cafe la jolla is wonderful and they have the most amazing refried beans, actually so good that we get some to go every time we visit!

    Carne Asada & Eggs Dish

If you are in Tijuana and looking for a hearty breakfast at a fair price I highly recommend you check out El Portrero. I was recently in Tijuana and a friend recommended we grab a breakfast here before heading to the beach. This place is a highly popular breakfast spot on weekends and I highly recommend you call ahead to reserve a table to avoid a long wait. El Potrero is located in the neighborhood of La Chapultepec, which has numerous fine dining options. My friend arrived much earlier than I did due to Uber connectivity issues and grabbed a table. After a few minutes of perusing the menu I decided on the Carne Asada and Eggs dish. The dish includes: carne asada, beans, eggs, chilaquiles, tortillas and potatoes. Everything was good, although I wished the carne asada had seasoning to it. I also ordered a coffee and was pleased it was refilled regularly. El Potrero's menu is vast and you will need several minutes to decide. The prices are reasonable and the portions will keep you satisfied for hours. The service is okay considering how busy it is. El Potrero is a solid 3.5 and I would bump it to 4.0 if they added seasoning to the carne asada. I will return to try other dishes.

    Chilaquiles gratinados

The place with the Sombrero! Good food good service.

Good food, good service, good music & very clean nice looking restaurant. Can't ask for much more. Good authentic Mexican food all the way around from the food & drinks. The parking can be a bit tight on weekends but it's ok they got a valet Parker you give him you're keys if you can't find parking & he'll find it just tip him a dollar when you're leaving he's cool with that. And as you wait they have free Jamaica, Tamarindo & coffee to drink with cookies. To start with they bring you free tortillas de Maiz cooked to be tostadas & a plate of cooked Chicharrones in red sauce. Let me tell you bout that chicharrone, it was on point! I'm all bout that chicharrone life & the ones here are great, we got 3 plates of them! We all shared each other's meals. They have a 3 item breakfast combo I had the Machata with 2 eggs & red chilliquilas and all plates come with beans. It was good & filling. Had some Borrego meat & it was also good very authentic & the juice very good. The Carne Asada is the real thing unlike the carne Asada you eat in most taco shops in SD. Tortillas hand bmade baby! So make sure to ask for Quesadillas De Maiz. We all enjoyed our food. The service was good they always checked on us & the manager also checked on us & helped us which really impressed me. I love it when managers get dirty & down with there workers. They have music on weekends a live little band. The store very clean. But one of the main things that impress me was there bathrooms. YES there bathrooms, it was real clean, I'm big on that. I mean come on who wants to unload in a dirty bathroom & toilet? I've been to a few fancy restaurants & they got dirty bathrooms that's a turn off. But not here, here it was real clean. So if you're wondering, yes I took a very happy comfortable masa (Spanish for dump). Overall good place we really liked it & we will be coming back for sure. And I will use there bathroom with a smile :))))

The rest was mixed: * Penne Arrabbiata had decent flavor but was a bit dry. * Salmon Meunière was good, though the mashed potatoes were dry. * Pescado Fiorentina was very good and the standout among the mains. The full bar is great, but the wine selection is limited. A memorable stop with some highs and a few misses.

Checked this spot out this past Mexican Independence Day due to the good reviews. It's located in…read morethe Zona Rio area, which is an area packed with very well-regarded, highly-rated restaurants in TJ. The restaurant is located directly behind the TGI Friday's on General Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada Boulevard. Got there around 1:30 pm, not too long after they opened. Not many people in there, though that wasn't surprising given that it was a Monday and a federal holiday. One thing I love about Mexican fine dining restaurants is they tend to be very lax on dress code; I was dressed casually but that wasn't a problem. I don't think they technically have a dress code, though a comparable fine dining steak restaurant in the U.S. might not have let me in given that I was casually (although neatly) dressed. Was nearly empty so was seated immediately. Waiter was an older male who spoke pretty good English. Was brought out Acqua Panna spring water while I looked over the menu. I first ordered a frozen strawberry margarita (209 pesos or roughly $11). The margarita was solid and tasty. For my meal I decided to go with the petit ribeye (300g ribeye), which came with a complimentary side (chose mashed potatoes) and the soup of the day (potatoes and cream). The petit ribeye was 1389 pesos (~$73 USD). While waiting for the main meal, they brought out bread and then the soup (which came with crackers). Really liked the soup. The bread was perfectly fine, though nothing special. They provided standard crackers but there were also some very large, circular crackers they provided that I didn't really like. After finishing the soup and bread they brought out the ribeye and potatoes. Both were very good, the ribeye in particular was well-cooked and tasty. Not the best ribeye I've had in my life or anything like that, but it was solid. I also liked the spicy sauce and pico condiments that came with the meal. The ribeye and margarita came to 1598 pesos total; after tip the total bill came out to around $100 USD. While I enjoyed the meal, I don't think I'd return to El Grill at that price point. I've had better steak/ribeye meals for less even in the U.S. and had better meals for much less in TJ. But the meal here was good and I'd still recommend for anyone who's never been, just as a place to check out. The waiter and customer service overall was great and very attentive.

We asked to move outside to catch the game, and while the server accommodated us, it was clear he wasn't too thrilled about it. We started with drinks, which were actually great; so good that we ended up ordering three rounds plus shots! For appetizers, we had the grilled bone marrow and empanadas, followed by a New York strip loin (recommended by the server) with creamy spinach and truffle fries. The empanadas and fries were delicious, but the steak was completely bland, definitely not worth the price. We asked for a spicy salsa, and the server brought one out "on the house," which was amazing. I even asked to take the leftover salsa home. Now, here's where things turned shady. Throughout the meal, the server kept upselling us on everything; which we didn't mind since we were having a good time. But when the bill came, we noticed he charged us for the leftover salsa that he originally said was complimentary! It wasn't about the money, but the principle. We asked him to remove the charge and told him to forget the salsa. The manager noticed what happened, took care of the charge, and even packed the salsa with our leftovers. The server, however, never returned to the table after that. The ambiance and cleanliness were fine, but overall, the experience left a bad taste. VERDICT: I will not be coming back.

We had a birthday there, and I tell you they really know how to do a celebration right, you will get the very much loud and fun birthday shoutout. Parking structure is small there, but they do have valet and they'll take care of it for you. (I believe it's only valet parking there, I could be wrong. But we got the valet parking) Price can't be beat for the quality and amount of food. Absolute steal. 2 people on a weekend with a birthday celebration and couple soft drinks and water came to be about $80ish-$90. Which if you know how much Brazilian steakhouses in the US cost, you'd know how good of a deal that is!!!!!!!! Overall, it really sucks that this place is far away, otherwise I'd have been there every weekend :) But it is a stable to go to every time I'm in Mexico.
