The service here is pretty good. Drinks were decent too. My only gripe was the food orders. I ordered a cowboy cut steak ($650 mxn pesos) which came with mash potatoes and roasted veggies. I ordered it medium, but it was rubbery and a bit bland. Not sure if the quality the meat rationalized the price. I got that same answer from other people in our group. However, the Mexican food my father in law and kids ordered were on par. Even though this is a steakhouse, not sure if I'd order another one. But only time will tell. Maybe I'll just have to order a different cut of steak. Parking is mainly street, but there is also a parking lot with about 5 spots. If you're in the area give it a try. Buen provecho! read more

This is a great place to eat dinner. The food is very different and delicious. Their beef ranchero plate is excellent and plentiful. I really liked their fresh guacamole. My wife had their milanesa and it was wonderful too. The servers are attentive and did a great job of serving us. If you are looking for a break from the norm then this is the place. Pass on this restaurant for Mexican food at least. We did not try the steaks so I will not comment on those. It is more of a problem throughout Rosarito for me, I have yet to find a spot for quality Mexican specialty food in a sit down restaurant. I am in Baja frequently and I want Mexican food in Mexico. We had the pollo Milanesa and enchiladas suizas. The chicken was rubbery and the enchiladas sucked. Hard tortillas, weak sauces and even hard tasteless beans. Just an idea for the owners. Quality Mezcal is very popular right now. In Mexico City and in the US they have great tasting menus in their bars. Put a sign out front saying "Mezcal Tasting" and it will make this restaurant a little different. They are 4 rustic style restaurants in Rosarito right now. All have mediocre food. Don't underestimate this place. It's easy to over look it. BUT, the food was fresh and delicious. The service was on point, polite and fast. The decor was Ranchero style and warm. Wildly better than El Nido (yuck), hugely better than Restaurant Angus Beef (yuck and gag), significantly better than La Estancia (cough) and decidedly better than the previous holder of the WSF (world steak federation) and ISF (international steak federation) diamond-studded belts - Tapanco. Hail Hail, the new king of the steak places in Baja - El Encino. I will explain. The location is between two favorite establishments just 3 miles south of downtown Rosaito - Gentlemen's Clubs - Bada Bing and Foxy's. With this place nestled (wedged) between those two strip bars (Gentlemen's clubs) gives new meaning to location, location, location. You may need a little time for the significance of that statement to form the correct mental image. Beautiful interior with a grand bar. All done in dark oak and comfortable seats. Lots of space between tables and walking areas. Impeccable wait staff. They serve breakfast thru dinner. We had dinner. Upon entering on a TUESDAY night, there was a trio of acoustic guitar players in the corner near the bar quietly singing romantic songs of Mexico and the US. The menu had some startling appetizers (which we will do next time), typical "Mexican" combination plates (for the sappy Gringos), a massive list of shrimp items, a big list of meats to include pork, beef, chicken, tongue and lamb, fresh local fish and some really cool desserts. In a simple thought, El Encino has it covered regardless of what you want (vegans can eat the plants in the parking lot). To help you choose, what to eat, the staff brings a huge platter to your table where the steaks, fish and other meats are presented along with an explanation of how they are prepared. Such class. We chose the Camarones Costa Azul (deep fried, huge shrimp filled with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon) and boneless Rib Eye steak (see photos) . Surprisingly, the meal started with a flavorful tortilla soup. A bright fresh salad (see photo) followed with our choice of dressings - cranberry or basil (see photo). How is that for classy and different???? Grilled fresh vegetables, including asparagus, was on the plates along with a baked potato. The shrimp had a bed of Mexican rice as well with avocado garnish. Woo-hoo. The steak was an absolute killer of a cut - flavorful and incredibly tender. The shrimp were to die for (with cheese and bacon it was a challenge for the Lipitor to keep up). HERE COMES THE MOST AMAZING PART OF THIS REVIEW.......Drum Roll.....two spectacularly prepared quality, three course meals and four soft drinks with TAX AND 15% TIP COST $40. Pick yourself up off the floor and read it again. $40 for two superb meals with tax AND 15% tip. Check the photos again. Where else can you find this? This use to be our favorite restaurant for a Mexican breakfast but no more unfortunately. I ordered the Juevos rancheros and requested extra sauce with a side of bacon. There was no extra sauce and the waitress or chef forgot the bacon. Also, I was only given one flour tortilla ...WHAT THE HECK! This place was not busy when we arrived. My wife ordered a sandwich called "Bola" which we were told was on bread they baked in house. The bread was a simple sesame seed hamburger bun and the fries it came with looked like fries that had been reheated in the microwave. I will only come here for drinks in the future! read more

he food was not restaurant grade. The waitresses were not helping. All the concern they had is to sell the food. No replacement, noting to offer to have a gest to leave the restaurant on a full stomach. The parking lot was full & other gest parked at the entrance & exit to the parking. to get out was very hard. when I tied to exit I het a car parked at the entrance. Suddenly all waitresses came out to help a local gest without any concern for none locals. I am positive if the parking lot person would not allow any car to block the exit, I would not be in an accident & pay 1000 pesos to the other party. This place is 5 star all the way! I visit Rosarito beach quite often and I always try to make it to El Encino. The service is excellent and all of the courses are superb! They have the best salsa and white cheese they serve with chips upon request. The homemade salad dressing is amazing. The soup is always delcicious and different. We were actually looking for another resturant and stumbled into El Encino after giving up looking. It is spacious with great decor and the service was all one could expect. I was hungry for a shrimp cocktail but wasn't on the menu. The waiter said " no problem" and brought me as good of a shrimp cocktail as I have had in Baja. My steak was delicious and my wife thought their chicken mole was the best she's had. She also likes their strawberry daiquiri! We went back several weeks later when we had out of town company and were just as happy the second time as the first. Their prices are reasonable, service is excellent as well as their food. Great Service, very attentive, but this Restaurant needs better prices and better food quality, we paid $150 dlls for 4 Dishes and they were not that wow. I had Fish and it was like half a normal portion and not that fresh. The Salads were like Mini Salads and the Soup was a Pasta Soup. The food and service here is absolutely magnificent. We loved it so much we at breakfast here both days of our vacation. There were six of us in our group and we ordered a number of dishes. Worst steak ever. Ordered a rib eye and it was so tough I should have had a wood saw to cut it. I think it was frozen and they boiled it and then threw it on the grill for a few minutes.
