What the heck did I just eat?…read more A taco? A quesadilla? A hamburger? Some moments of reflection in my Lyft ride back home had me thinking many things about what I just ate here. Allow me to put it in perspective, this is gas station food on steroids. Located in Red Hook (and all it takes is to go outside and see you are in Red Hook), this nondescript bodega serves up one heck of a sandwich that will have you thinking, did I just eat that? This is not your ordinary New York bodega, this is the shop of General Ock, who sells various sandwiches in his renowned Ocky Way. So what is the Ocky Way? The Ocky Way is not just a sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and onions, it is also about presentation and style. The sandwich is made loudly with a flair for the dramatic, from the time your food hits the flat top to when it is center cut and put in a clamshell container. What about the food? It really is pretty good! I got the Chopped Cheese the Ocky Way and it was something I really enjoyed. I recommend you get it with the Jamaican Patty as that is what makes the flavors work best. You can also do it with a waffle or pancake or whatever bread you like. All you have to do is scarf it down. You can also put your own toppings on your sandwich if you want for an extra premium à la Farmer in the Deli style. Farmer in the Deli is another well known bodega in Fort Greene, known for finely chopping their meat into a sandwich, one I highly recommend as well. Even after writing this review, I still cannot believe what I ate here. Before I finish this review, I have to say one more thing. Neva neva neva forget to get a drink with your order!

I didn't have cash to go to the other Italian place nearby starts with the letter D. They have Crazy sober up type of sandwiches services very nice and polite. I've been there twice and the prices are not bad. I got myself Italian sub with all the toppings it was delicious.

Brooklyn stays undefeated. Went to David's Brisket House -- a Jewish deli run by Yemeni Muslims in…read morethe middle of an Afro-Caribbean neighborhood. If that's not the most Brooklyn thing ever, I don't know what is. Same sandwiches, different blessing. Everybody says order the pastrami, so I listened like a grown man should. Pastrami on rye with spicy mustard absolutely slapped. Smoky, juicy, perfectly stacked, and messy enough to ruin your shirt with honor. Then came the beef brisket on rye with a cup of au jus for dipping... and brother, that dip should be studied by scientists. Pure perfection. Washed everything down with a Dr. Brown's root beer like it was 1957. No fake trendy nonsense. No deconstructed sandwiches. Just old-school deli greatness that punches you directly in the soul. Great food doesn't care where you come from -- it just brings everybody to the same table. That's New York. That's Brooklyn.

Wowowowowowow! Wow. I'm floored. I don't normally ever like brisket (which as an American is weird,…read moreI know!) by God did I love this place! The bread is sweet and tasty too. Our combination (we got the triple combo sandwich!) came with a side of au jus and our choice of condiments. Their Mayo is really good. Tastes like kewpie Mayo which is the best Mayo on planet Earth. Service was friendly, kind, and fast too. We got our sandwich within 5-7 minutes of ordering. They've got ample seating and weren't busy on a Wednesday evening. The establishment is clean and has nice decor too. Feels like a classic deli with a clean aesthetic but not too modern or gentrified.
