It was a pleasant experience for the most part. Chicken wings and lamb tasted great were not hot enough as far as temperature. Lamb was overcooked but still tasted great. I would have preferred medium instead of well done. It took only a couple of minutes after we ordered the food that it arrived. Too quick to have been cooked fresh. I guess the sixteen hour slow cooked meant that the food is all done and they may just warm it up? Not sure. The pita bread came wrapped in clear plastic but was cold. I thought the bread is supposed to be warm. Ambiance is wonderful but I wish they would play authentic music instead of the American music. Would I go back again? Yes , absolutely. So impressed by Kanoon!! One of the best restaurant experiences ive had in a while. We got there and were immediately given a large salad and some sort of pita. Then we were given a bunch of sides to eat!! Absolutely free. The food was delicious. 10/10. Also halfway through the meal we could see in the back they were firing up something in the back. Then a server came around and gave me and my boyfriend each a piece of charred corn on the cob for free!!!!!! The service was incredible too. Multiple servers kept an eye on us and were super attentive. Prices are super reasonable especially with how large the portions are. Will definitely be back when im in the area. Loved my meal! My family and I really enjoyed this restaurant. The servings are very generous so it makes up for the price. We ordered the.. Wings and Fries for the appetizer Smoke meat platter that came with 4 different meats. 1lb or the smoke short rib Everything was delicious. We travel a lot and have had a lot of smoked meats... this is by far the best smoked meats we have ever had. It was juicy, melt in your mouth. I noticed some of the reviews mentioned lack of flavor or that it was bland. There were a few ways to eat the meat. From the cilantro mint (not sure what's it's called), garlic sauce, 2 bbq sauces. But I personally loved the smoke flavor. The food came out fast, then the food kept coming. 3 decent size salads, 3 large bowls of rice, pitas, and corn. There was a ton of food! The mint lemonade was so good! Our waiters knew what they were talking about and very friendly. The service is top notch and we plan on coming back the next time we are back in the area. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. My husband ordered this for takeout expecting something different from the usual Middle Eastern fare. Well, we certainly got something different, in the worst way. First of all, the smell of the beef shoulder (I think) was godawful. Very overpowering and unpleasant. The smell alone put me off. Then you cut into the meat and see that it's all fat. Gross. He also ordered brisket. I've had brisket before and it is nothing like this. This stuff was dry and just completely lacked flavor. My husband and I are foodies, and have literally eaten all over the ti-state area, and we can truly say the food was AMAZING. Our waiter Lawrence was fantastic, professional, personable and suggested the right combination of dishes. The menu is extensive and so many offerings it so hard to choose, but from start to finish, my husband and I were super delighted. We shared the mix grill, perfect sampler to get a good feel of what kanoon has to offer We had a little bit of everything, then we tried the ribs and my husband had to take the chimichurri sauce home. Multiple issues that make me never want to go back. They said we'd be called after our 30 min wait time and we never were. Then saw people coming in after us be seated before us.(Fyi this place doesn't take reservations). The server was NOT friendly and was staring all over the restaurant and not focusing on taking our order plus he had a bit of an attitude. The "Bulgar", which is really barley, was served to us COLD. We specifically ordered ONE pound of the brisket and ONE pound of the ribs ($29/lb) yet they charged us $60 for the ribs and $40 for the brisket. The menu states "weight is approximate and are rounded to nearest request "....BS. Be prepared to get ripped off. When I go to eat out, I expect to get exactly what I order. If you came up with that charge that means the meat WAS preweighed. You can't just charge your customer whatever the hell you want without warning them it's going to be way off what they requested. Even if the meat was tasty, everything else ruins the chances of wanting to go back. Shameful all around for a "halal" place. read more

As soon as we opened the car doors in the parking lot we knew we were in for a treat. The smoky meaty aroma was intoxicating. The restaurant is attractive and inviting with its indoor / outdoor seating. Our waiter was kind and answered all of our questions. He helped us order an excellent meal. Saturday waited for an hour and a half... with a 9 year old.... the people did not care to give us a table. Every time we checked... we're told it's not our turn... they didn't take our name or contact number... how are they keeping track as to who came first and second.... very annoying . I visited your restaurant on Sunday, August 13, 2023. I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed. I don't understand what some people are raving about because you would only give this place a good review, if you are being paid for It. First of all your videos and promotions are misleading, borderline false advertisement. I have never been to a restaurant (and believe me I have been to over 100 different restaurants in many different countries) that posts a price on their menu to then tell you that if you want it to order the meat, it has to be by the pound. I have only seen this at restaurants that serve seafood, specially lobsters, and crabs. Our server suggested that we order the eight pieces of lamb chops for $65. Little did we know that what he was referring to as a pieces were literally a tiny lamb chops that came as a small rack, and I swear that this did not even weigh one and a half pounds. The service was horrible. Nobody came to check on us. And we had to ask for a server so we can get Turkish coffee at the end. The coffee was served with no sugar, no spoons to stir it, and when we asked for sugar, the sugar came without a spoon or stirrers. When I asked for a spoon, they brought us plasticware that is used when you order food to go. You charge a lot of money for very little food, and on top of this, your customer service is horrible and it needs to be fixed. read more

We have been patronizing Middle Eastern restaurants in Paterson/Clifton for the past 40 years, and have not been disappointed by the food quality or ambience- until now. First of all, they charge a $5 valet fee to park your car; nowhere else in this area do they do this. Next, the music is blasting, there are 1 hour dining limit signs all over , and a service charge for using a credit card. For the amount and quality of food, prices are way too steep. The worst part was that the food was tasteless, and although they advertise as a smokehouse, I didn't taste any hint of smoke. We all left hungry and crossed this place off our list. I think they're trying to capitalize on their creative twist of combining bbq with Middle Eastern. It could work,but doesn't. There are so many FABULOUS restaurants on Main Street. Excellent food waiters slow and not that nice I am giving 5 stars for food but not the customer service

I tried the Kanoon Restaurant today, at 2pm I was sat and given the dinner menu, I had to ask for the lunch menu (12-4pm) this was a bit of a turn off to begin with. I ordered the brisket sandwich and a bottle of water. shortly after I was brought out a trio of dips, sweet relish, coleslaw, and a tomato pepper hot relish and cut up pita bread. then a few minutes later I was served a fine chopped tomato and cucumber salad that lacked vinegar and salt. I asked for some vinegar and the waitress asked another employee and they just stood there and a few minutes later they took a gallon of white vinegar out of the refrigerator and she walked to the rear of the restaurant and it took forever for her to come back with a little plastic cup of vinegar. Why would a restaurant that serves multiple salad options not have Oil & Vinegar in dispensers for the table? Shortly after she came out with a little black bowl with a few mini potatoes and a few slices of sweet potatoes. They were good but a bit too spicy. Shortly after she came out with a round wooden cutting board with the restaurant logo on the handle. There sat a wrap filled with large chunks of brisket and a delicious BBQ type sauce. the odd thing is I ordered a sandwich not a wrap. A smoked brisket sandwich should be on a bun, unless you have it listed as a wrap. The chunks were much too large. On a wrap it should be shredded up. Along side the wrap were sliced tomato, onions and a mixed green salad with no dressing. Shortly after the waitress came back with a cute little fry basket filled with delicious crunch French fries. The service was very disconnected there were 5-6 employees standing around talking and not paying attention to the customers. At the time there were only 3 tables with guests including me. And in my opinion a gratuity/tip should not be included. So the tip was included 1.80 and that was it... I would have left a $5.00 tip. If the party was over 6 guest then yes it is customary to add gratuity, not a party of 1. To wrap it up (no pun intended) the wrap was very tasty. It was odd to get potatoes, French fries, and pita bread and then the wrap... too much carbs in my opinion. and to get a salad and then salad with the wrap is odd. I spoke to the gentleman that came to my table to ask how everything was. He listened and just said he would speak to his manager. I got the impression he really did not care, but I could be wrong. I will try Kanoon Restaurant again in the future during the (lunch menu specials 12-4pm) the dinner menu is quite a bit more expensive. I will give it a month and adjust my review based on my next experience. Parking: there is a small parking lot on the side of the building. It was empty when I arrived. read more

I'm really for supporting Muslim and Arab businesses who come up with great ideas and concepts, however I've had the same poor experience both times I have visited Kanoon. Both times the service was poor, food was forgotten and wait times were long to the point where we had asked to cancel items on our order. Upon arrival we were told the wait time for smoked meats was an hour to hour and a half. Fine, we were okay with the wait. We were then told that all smoked lamb dishes were available and ready so we ordered lamb shoulder and chops. The lamb shoulder came to us dry and rough. The chops never made it to our table after a hour of being told they were available and other tables were served lamb chops. We had also ordered chicken chops which was also available right away but also never received after an hour wait so also was asked to cancel off the bill. When speaking with the server, he seemed annoyed and bothered when we asked to cancel our orders. When we asked for the check, servers just came and picked up our leftover food to the trash without asking if we wanted to take our leftovers to go. Understood that it's a bit hectic and busy but the servers really need to take care of their customers. The positives, their shish taok, kofta, and burgers were good and served in a timely manner. Really disappointed with this experience because they have a really good concept especially within our Arab community. read more

The ONLY review you need to read...Like most people, we came here based off the Instagram marketing. There's a QR code on the door of the restaurant to reserve your place--there are no online reservations. We waited 45 minutes...we thought the place must be great since it was so packed LOL. We were a party of 4 seated in the tiniest "booth" ever. We ordered our apps and dinner. Within 10 mins, a member of our party received her MAIN COURSE...and it came with the wrong side, so it got sent back. At this point, no apps have been bought out. Then, her correct order comes back again with one of the apps. Then they bring out the sides for 2 of us. A few mins later, another main dish comes out along with our second app. At this point, 2 of us received their order and the other 2 have COLD sides with no main dish. 10 mins later, I recieved my main dish and the last member of our party is still waiting for their order, although they ordered the same thing as one of the other members of our group. 15 minutes have gone by before we flagged down our waitor and asked where the last order was. It was never put in! So now, 3 of us have finished our tasteless and flavorless meals while my fiancé waited over 30 mins for his order to be made. We began to express our frustration to the waitor who clearly didn't have a clue on how to do his job. The "owner" comes over and intrudes saying he's open to any feedback we have. We expressed that their timing was horrible and that the apps and sides should never come out before the main courses. We also told him that the "sauces" should have been bought out with the meals, not halfway through us finishing our food by request. And btw, the sauces that were bought out are Thousand Island, BBQ sauce, and Ranch that was clearly just squeezed out of a bottle...AT A MIDDLE EASTERN RESTAURANT! The "owner" expressed his remorse and offered a discount on the bill. He even bought out a complimentary dessert and honestly, we wish he wouldn't have. He bought out a custard filled dessert with the paper wrapping still on it! It was not visually appealing AT ALL! Fast forward to the bill...we receive a bill with no discount as promised. The "owner" overhears us and comes over, takes the card, and says he forgot to apply the discount. He charges the card for the amount on the bill and comes back saying he figured out the issue as to why we never got the 4th order. He says we never ordered it and adds a 5th order to the bills, charges the card, and comes back with a second bill. My fiancé looks at the bill and realizes we now have 5 meals on the bill and explains to the "owner" that the 4 orders we placed were already on the first bill and he just added and charged for a 5th one! He apologized for the 100th time and reverses the charge for the 2nd time, takes $8 off the bill as a "discount", runs the card, and sneaks out of the restaurant. We get the 3rd bill and check our bank account to find that the amount that was charged was more than the amount on the bill. We asked another manager why there was a discrepancy, and he tells us there's a credit card charge fee! The credit card charge fee is not displayed anywhere on the bill or the receipt! So we got an $8 discount and then got charged a $6 credit card charge fee without ever being told about it. When we expressed that it was illegal to apply the charge without informing the customer, the manager offered to refund it. We are beyond disappointed and disgusted with everything about this restaurant. The service sucked. The food was beyond disappointing, especially the Ribeye!! No seasoning! The "sauces" offered at a "Smokehouse" were a complete joke. The resolution to a small mistake turned into an even bigger problem. The "owner" truly has no sense of how to fix an issue. The least he could've done in this situation was to either comp the dish that took forever to come out (instead, he charged us twice for it), or at MINIMUM, offer to comp the 2 appetizers. Ordered filet Mignon Kebob and was served lamb, when I asked why they stated they changed the shish kebob from beef to lamb for the day. Crazy ! Did not even ask if lamb was okay before serving. Definitely do not try this place. The ambiance was as bad as the food , about 15 waiters that were not welcoming and kept staring at us the entire time.
