A friend of mine highly recommended this place so decided to see what the hype is about on our anniversary. All in all, it's a good place for rolls, cooked entrees, shareables. But I wouldn't come back for omakase or the more pricier dishes. Main reason being that this isn't a truly authentic Japanese restaurant. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: - Clean and nicely decorated. Presentation is excellent! Togo boxes are super cute. - The entrees are worth it as it comes with soup, salad, and rice. Rolls were also generous. - fried items on the rolls were fresh - Good service Cons: - Not really authentic. Lacks the attention to details of a Japanese restaurant such as using good Japanese rice. The rice they used was short grain Taiwanese rice. Salmon belly nigiri was just salmon nigiri. - Pricey for the quality of fish and other ingredients. The seaweed on the hand rolls didn't "crunch" when you bite into it, etc. - I asked if the eel rice was freshly grilled eel. They told me yes but it wasn't. "Fresh" oysters were also not freshly shucked. It was pre-shucked oysters from the fridge. $26 for 6 which I thought was high. read more

I recommend getting the non-sushi items. We found those dishes to be innovative, surprising, and simply delicious. The sushi rolls were constructed poorly, falling apart when picked up. The nori used for the handrolls was very thin and soggy by the time the rolls were served. A standout dish for me was the Nasu Dengaku (miso glazed eggplant), and I usually don't like eggplant! Some other things to note - our servers disappeared after everything we ordered had been served. I would also be cautious of the booths if you have any elderly or anyone with disabilities in your group - very awkward to climb in/out of. read more

Food is just amazing. Ramen is amazing, sushi is amazing, ambiance is amazing. Just such an amazing place.

We have been here twice already so I figured that it's about time I write a review, as I quite often still even think about going back. The first time was when I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. Unfortunately I didn't realize how busy Kane is at times and didn't make a reservation. The staff was extremely helpful in my dilemma however and made space for us to enjoy our night to make sure we had a place to celebrate at. We sat at the sushi bar which was a cool and authentic experience, they were torching fish with fire, so also entertaining! Second visit we took a friend that was visiting around gis birthday so we took him here to celebrate; this time it was a different experience. We sat at a table which was cozy and intimate, our server was adorable and helpful when it came to understanding the cuts of fish and dishes. Needless to say, we all love this place and would enjoy it over and over again. From the food, to the service, to the atmosphere. Arigato! read more

Kane sushi is my go to place for a la cart sushi. Their nigiri sushi pieces are usually big and fresh. My only complaint is when I was there recently, my chutoro nigiri was a bit chewy due to the connective tissues of the fish. I also didn't enjoy the uni that was on top my the otoro nigiri because the uni taste was too overpowering. The staff is always nice and attentive and I do recommend this place if you're ever in the area. I believe they only take reservations, but they always have plenty of seating available. read more

Came here for date night and we absolutely loved it!! The menu was a little overwhelming at first but we had help from the wonderful staff to narrow what we wanted down. We ended up getting the spicy scallop hand roll, the big toro makimoto, the blue fin tuna nigiri, eel nigiri, salmon roe nigiri, uni pasta, and lychee sake. Everything was so fresh and delicious and all of the flavors were so unique!! We got the matcha tiramisu and vanilla ice cream for dessert and it was excellent!! Highly recommend, we will definitely be back!! read more

Should have visited here a lot sooner! All the nigiris we had were very fresh and they had a really good selection of fish and rolls. We absolutely loved the blue crab with kani butter and the otoro and kamatoro was a melty delight. The quality of the fish was really good as well. We will be back soon! read more

If you are in search of a good sushi spot -- or just Asian -- look no further. Kane is the spot for quality Japanese cuisine, from decadent rolls to savory meat dishes like karaage. Truly, one of the few Asian restaurants in Austin that lives up to the hype. Their most impressive offering is their generous, rich selection of sushi rolls. I forgot the name of the roll we ordered but it was decked out in quality tuna, gold flakes, caviar, and avocados. They do not play when it comes to their rolls. Definitely order at least one if you come to Kane! Fish was fresh and much of their seafood is imported from Japan. The quality is apparent and well worth the price tag. However, if you order their nigiri, beware that it comes with a lot of rice. I got full really fast and it was difficult towards the end to finish everything. If you are not a seafood fan... well, you are lame, but do not fear because Kane has plenty of other menu items. They serve fried rice, karaage (it was alright), and ramen for you picky eaters. To cap the night, I highly recommend their dessert menu. I tried their matcha tiramisu, which was delightful but of course not as delicious as the OG in Kyoto. After eating a lot of salty or savory food, something sweet just hits the spot. Oh! The ambiance was amazing. Huge fan of the warm wooden interior, felt like I was enveloped in a warm hug. I also enjoyed seeing the sushi chefs in action at the bar and would recommend dining there for the most optimal experience. Service was excellent too. I will be coming back again for sure! Next time, I will probably just order their rolls and perhaps try their uni pasta. read more

This place truly is some of the best sushi I have ever had. If you love sushi, this is the spot. They offer plenty of other things on the menu (ramen, rice, chicken dishes, etc.), but the fish is where they really shine! For the price, you are given fresh, generous portions. The rolls are gigantic and stuffed with fillings (they do. not. skimp!) and the nigiri is a thick slice of fish on top of a perfect bite of rice. Honestly, best quality and portions - you will leave full! Service was efficient and easygoing. We ran a little late for our reservation but called to let them know, and we had no problem getting seated as soon as we arrived. Overall, it's a bit of a drive since it's technically in Cedar Park, but it was 100% worth it for a date night or just a nicer sushi dinner out. QUICK FACTS: - Reservations? Yes, required. They note they are a "reservation-only" restaurant, and once you see the intimate, small interior, you'll know why. You can try and call once they open to see if they will accept any walk-ins. - Parking? Yes, located in a shared space shopping center with other restaurants. Open parking lot. FOOD RATINGS: - Nigiri (5/5): I selected a variety of hamachi yellowtail, salmon belly, and my favorite, bluefin toro. All of them were delightful. Look how huge the fish was! Perfection. I could have just ordered endless nigiri! - Big Toro roll (5/5): This was by far the BEST roll I have ever had! Literally stuffed with the best tuna, topped with more of it, and the truffle flavor was balanced so nicely without being overwhelming. The rice and fish practically melt in your mouth. - Spicy scallop hand rolls (4/5): Pretty good sized hand rolls. Loved the scallops. They weren't really spicy at all but I enjoyed the flavor! - Spider roll (5/5): This roll was thick. The pieces were almost 2 bites for me. The soft shell crab was cooked perfectly and the rice was so soft and everything went so well together. - Akumi roll (4/5): Our final roll we ordered. Definitely a rich one, as it is deep fried and has cream cheese. Plenty of flavor and almost too much, but it was good! read more

My wife and I come here every month for their Omakase and we're never disappointed. Not only do they use very high quality fish (much of it imported from Toyosu in Tokyo) but chef Kane has a way with flavors and is always cooking up new and delicious additions to his Omakase course. We've had sushi from all over including Michelin star restaurants in Tokyo and Beverly Hills and Kane is up there with the best of them and at a price that is very reasonable for the quality. As if that wasn't enough the ambiance and service are both fantastic. The vibe definitely reminds us of sushi restaurants in Japan, and Lisa (chef Kane's wife) is always attentive and even provides cultural and culinary context to the various dishes they serve. I can't recommend Kane enough! read more

Kane sushi - Japanese Near Me - Cedar Park, Texas

My husband and I have been to Japan, and we have tried multiple Michelin-starred restaurants there as well as in the US & in Europe. In Austin, we have been to Uchi, Soto, Sushi Moto, Sushi Fever & Tomodachi but Kane has become our go-to sushi restaurant after only trying it once. A 10/10 experience if I've ever seen one. Sushi: We always get omakase when we go here and it is always such a revelatory experience. The fish is so quintessentially fresh, it's actually wild. It's only *slightly* below the quality and freshness of fish we've eaten in Japan (outside of some pieces you straight up can't get outside of Japan), which is saying a lot. Plus, Chef Kane is the master of flavors and I always appreciate the new & innovative dishes he puts forth that challenges the status quo in sushi. Curried blue crab? Smoked hamachi? Ankimo topped with pickled ginger? The flavors are beyond, and I'm obsessed. Service: The service is attentive, especially for omakase. You will be seated facing Chef Kane and can watch him prepare your next dish, which is truly a delight to behold. The Japanese plates, bowls & sake sets they use are absolutely stunning, I'm often left feeling gobsmacked by how gorgeous they are. They are all purchased in Japan (Chef Kane and his family visit Japan every year to see family) and you can tell. Personally, it's a sushi experience you don't often see in Texas. Highly recommend! Atmosphere: One of my favorite parts of Kane is how much it reminded us of sushi restaurants we've been to in Japan. The interior design is visibly inspired by modern Japanese interiors. It's warm, cozy, open and comforting. All that to say, run to Kane. Thank us later. read more

Very disappointing experience. I was sat at the table with my two friends for a girls night dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine and several plates of sushi. 1 hour 20 minutes in we were told that the next table had arrived and we needed to wrap up. The whole evening felt rushed and to subsequently be asked to leave the restaurant especially without finishing our drinks was wildly disappointing. The food is great, I've been twice. However, it's hard to overlook the below average service. Will likely not go back. Takara or Sushi Fever will have my business. read more

Back to Kane but this time, had a omakase experience. This is my second time doing their omakase and it was great! The nigiri pieces were large, almost hard to take in one bite! The service was amazing and all of the staff was very nice and so attentive. Our experience started at 5pm right when they opened and we are STUFFED by 5:45. We had so many courses, I lost count! If you are looking for a chef to tell you a back ground of where everything is from and how it was sourced, this by isn't the place. I'm sure if we had asked, they would tell us but we were happy conversing amongst ourselves. This place continues to be my number one and I love that it's in my neighborhood! read more

We booked KANE's omakase to celebrate Chinese New Year and it was fantastic all around! The head chef exclusively makes the courses for you and you get to learn so much from him because of it. Getting the chef's full and undivided attention is an incredible experience. They fly in their seafood from Japan on Wednesdays and Saturdays and it's some of the most fresh sushi I've ever gotten to eat. Not fishy at all. I won't post all of the courses we ate (spoiler alert!) but these are some of the bites we had. The amount of uni, caviar, truffle, and gold foil we had that night was luxurious. The portion size is very generous and as others have said, come hungry! You are asked to eat each piece with your hands - the traditional Japanese way - and you're also requested to try and eat it in one bite. I was shy about this at first, but after a few tries, I came to appreciate the way all the flavors came together that was only possible if eaten in a single bite. The waiters replace your hot hand towels frequently so there's no issue with hands getting dirty. The restaurant is reservation only and you'll be amazed by how packed it gets, which is really a testament to their quality. I can't wait to come back to try their other dishes! read more

The quality here is chef's kiss! We made reservations ahead of time and were promptly seated at the bar, which is always my favorite seat in the house as I get a closeup of all the magic. We intended to do damage so we ordered a good variety of dishes along with a bottle of sake to wash it all down. Starting off with the hamachi crudo, it was so fresh tasting and well balanced in flavor and texture with the citrus, sesame oil, and fried shallots. The salmon belly nigiri was fatty and silky with the salty flavors of the roe lingering after the bite. Didn't even use soy sauce for fear muting the flavor. The unagi was a delicious as you'd expect. The otoro was the star though! It was a melt in your mouth experience. We also ordered the MT makimono, which was huge! Unfortunately, it was doused in a spicy mayo sauce, which was too overwhelming. Would definitely skip the rolls next time. The uni pasta was creamy and rich. The smell itself was so tantalizing and the portion is more than enough for two people. The tonkatsu was crispy and came with miso soup, salad with two different dressings, and sesame seeds you crush. This was extremely filling and took away from the full sushi experience. Our mistake, but it felt very out of place. Personally, I'd just focus on the seafood next time. I orginally wanted the salmon ozisushi, but they were unable to make it as they were reserving their salmon for the omakases (which you reserve ahead of time!). We ended ordering the saba mackerel one to try out. The sushi rice was really flavorful; it was layered with nori and mackerel. It was hard to tear apart the mackerel to eat each piece in 2 bites, but I enjoyed eating it in this format. You can see a theme here that the portions are very good and because of that, prices are very reasonable. Truly a bang for your buck. The clean, wooden aesthetic of the restaurant was also a draw for me. I loved using the wooden plates at the sushi bar. Service was attentive and there was plenty of parking. This is definitely a place worth splurging on. read more

It's by reservation only. Unfortunate because I wouldn't mind getting their katsu togo. In my opinion, they have hands down the best of chicken katsu and tonkatsu in Austin. I know it's a sushi place, but I only crave sushi once in a while. They do have good ones of that, too. It's just that there are other places that also serve good sushi. As far as the tonkatsu, though, it's the best in Ausin, but that doesn't mean it's perfect. You can see on the cross section that there are some juicy parts while others are dry. Another area where this dish excels is the rice, lol. This isn't your normal rice you get from Costco. I swear these are the ~$50 for 15lb ones you see at Asian stores. It's short grain, probably because it's a sushi place, but it's also cooked perfectly. Between chicken and pork, I would choose the chicken katsu though. I've had their uni pasta, the stone pot A5 Wagyu and those are also really good. As far as service, they're very attentive. They check up on you, fill your drinks, and accepts requests like "no mayo". Depending on what you order, they may do some service like cook the A5 wagyu or break the sesame for the katsu sauce. Price is high, but worth it I think. Paying is done with a handheld card reader that shows the tip 18% 20% and defaults to 25% (without the tax) that the server sometimes leaves at your table when you're ready. read more

I wouldn't go to Kane for nigiri, sashimi or hand rolls. The Nigiri that isn't pictured (uni and salmon belly), came out looking lackluster for being $20 a piece. The Kama-toro sashimi was hard to chew and had thick tendons in the middle. Moreover, the seaweed for the hand rolls was stale and poor quality. Their sushi is not bad or of bad quality by any means. However, their takes on nigiri are very normal and the price does not reflect the food itself. The rolls and Japanese food on the other hand are very good. Their big toro roll wowed us and the uni pasta was carried out very well. I would go here to eat their Japanese dishes, but would not recommend their sushi for those who are familiar with good sushi restaurants. read more

This visit was a miss but I suspect my experience isn't typical. We went for a special dinner to celebrate and my partner ordered multiple hand rolls and I ordered a few nigiri and the big tuna roll. The hand rolls came out first so it was a little bit awkward that I had no food and my dining companion finished her dinner before my Sushi arrived. The nigiri were good but not as generous as some of the reviews led me to believe. I wasn't overly impressed considering the price. My mega tuna roll was very substantial and included lots of fatty tuna. I don't think this is the tuna for me but that is more of a personal choice - nothing on Kane. My parter loved their Santa Barbara Uni. So this is where the night took a turn. Our waiter pretty much avoided us for the rest of the evening. I wanted to order another drink since I was celebrating and possibly more sushi or dessert. It got so bad that we plain ran out of water. I felt bad for our waiter since he seemed to firmly stuck in the weeds but he also was an expert at avoiding eye contact. At the end we asked another team member for water and to ask our waiter for the check. It was still slow to arrive. Then he never came back to run my card so I eventually paid using the toast app - even though it wasn't a CC I wanted to use.. There is a section on the reservation app where they ask if this is a special occasion. I filled this in but apparently this info wasn't shared or acknowledged. The interior of Kane is nicely done and i think the sushi bar would be a better choice if you go. Many other diners appeared to be very happy. read more

Wow! If you love sushi, you must check out Kane. It's very small, reservations only. The wood paneling and divided table booths make it feel very cozy and traditional. About half the space is taken up by the sushi chef station and there are a few limited seats in front of the chefs. This isn't a place to go for a quick sushi fix. This is a place to go for an evening of dining on sushi. The food is incredible. There is something about elevated sushi that defies words. Everything we had was amazing, but there are a few must haves. You must try the KT Special as well as the Bluefin O-Toro Nigiri. I would go far as to say they are mandatory eating. We also greatly enjoyed the Spicy Tuna Shiso Tempura app and the three rolls we ordered: the Volcano Roll, the Spicy Tataki roll, and the Lion King Roll (which is served Aburi style-aka it gets a blowtorch treatment before being served. I was really excited to try Kane because I had been seeing videos online about it. I loved how they started of with warm towels to clean our hands. That was a nice touch. The food was really good! The fish tasted super fresh and the rolls had a ton of good flavor. The vibe felt very authentic, and the booths that made it feel like you were sitting on the ground. You do have to make a reservation, which was fine, just remember to do that in advance. However, we had an early reservation and it felt super rushed. The staff kept coming to our table every few minutes even after we said we weren't ready to order. It was like they were in a hurry to get us in and out, which took away from the relaxing experience we were hoping for. Honestly, the food and ambiance were great, but the rushed service was a letdown. I'd still want to go back, but would try a later hour when its a bit busier. read more

Best sushi I've ever had! Everyone was so swift and patient, and it's so cozy! I will definitely be coming back soon

Heard many good things about the grand opening of Kane, so we had to try it out for ourselves. At first, I was skeptical with it being all the way up north, and in a shopping plaza. However, much to our surprise, the interior design definitely wow'ed us. I really appreciate the subtle details, from seating to the silverware, plates, and dining set. We got seated right at the sushi bar which was great because we could watch the chefs work, and interact with them. We ordered a bit of everything, and first started off with the uni pasta with truffles. Lucky enough, it was the last serving for the night and so I was super stoked. The presentation was on point and the portion was so generous. The pasta was as expected, so rich, creamy and filling. If you plan on ordering this, make sure to have it come last because I was so full after I ate half of the dish. We then tried the hamachi and salmon belly, and the portion once again was overly generous. My partner got his unagi nigiri and although it was good, he did wish it was more charred and torched. The crane then arrived and by this rate, I was stuffed. However, the crane was so good. The yellowtail was extremely fresh and the tuna melted in your mouth with every bite. We then wrapped it up with hand rolls, and the the spicy tuna and masago ended up being my favorite! Overall, I'd give Kane a 4.5! I would say they are definitely a bang for your buck, and not a bust! The fish quality was top notch, and I didn't taste the fishyness. Although the presentation could be a bit more refined in some areas, they are the only good quality sushi place I've been to where we didn't leave hungry. We actually left full and so satisfied. Service was good, the chefs were so sweet and waitresses as well. The ambience did remind me of Japan- intimate, warm, and cozy. I would recommend for the bathroom to match with the theme but if not, it's not the end of the world. Honestly, this place and its location exceeded our expectations. We truly hope it continues to do well, and be the start of good quality dining/beautiful ambiance in north of Austin. One last say, make sure you RSVP online. Due to limited space and their recent opening, they do not accept walk in's as of this moment. read more

The staff were very friendly. I chose various kinds of sushi, sashimi to try. All of which were delicious! This is by far the best sushi I've eaten in Texas. Heck maybe anywhere. The sushi bar is set up so that the glass case that holds the fish is non existent. The fish is kept below the counter so that they can make it in front of you. The decor is beautiful and well thought out. I was greeted by the owner when we came in and later realized he was one of the sushi chefs. It doesn't get any better web the owner is involved in every stage of the dinning experience. The pieces of sushi are huge and very fresh. Service? Omg. These people really make you feel welcome. They explain all of the stages of your dining experience and provide you with a hot towel as soon as you are seated. They have only fresh high quality fish unlike most sushi joints that serve you precut frozen, low quality fish. Ambience great; service excellent. Food mid to good. We still recommend to try at least once since it's affordable. This is what we got from $136 subtotal. Big Toro Roll ($28) Uni Pasta ($28) 2 x Albacore Nigiri 2 x King Salmon Nigiri 2 x O Toro Nigiri 2 x A5 Wagyu Nigiri Sake (free) So they use expensive toppings like truffle, caviar, gold leaf, saffron and uni, so it's great bang for the buck for certain. Despite all the bells and whistles of having recognizably expensive ingredients in a beautiful restaurant, I felt that they sacrificed having these things for the quality of refined sushi itself. We sat at the sushi bar and was able to see technique itself. Perhaps they were Chinese, as they did things differently than Japanese sushi chefs. For example, the rice was crushed in versus formed with two fingers knife cuts were jagged on the fish. These small things, at least for us was noticable. Especially the small bone that was found. We let them know. The size of the nigiris were too large for me and some were too stringy for me to enjoy. It would take me two or three bites to finish a nigiri. With that said, the extra fatty tuna (otoro) surprisingly was stringiness one! I had to do a muckbang eating procedure to stuff it in my mouth, because I didn't want to pull it out with my fingers and cause a scene. Maybe it was the wrong cut; maybe it was bad luck but it was the first piece I had and most subsequent order was similar, except for the A5 Wagyu nigiri, which was very melt in the mouth. King Salmon and StipJack were not remarkable. Uni pasta, although I thought was good, I had to salt it with soy sauce for some flavor. We may come back again for another chance but this what I concluded after my first visit. Again still recommend and will try because others have better reviews. We will probably try their hot dishes instead though they were so largely portioned and looks great. read more

The nigiri and rolls here were orgasmic!! It's rare to find a place that has good quality of both. The pricing was reasonable too. My favorite nigiri is the Otoro, it was so fatty and melted in your mouth. The sushi rolls had a bit more rice than I'd like but the flavors were so good, I wasn't too bothered by the proportion. I also loved the eel and cream cheese roll that I got. Uni pasta was okay, very pricey for tasting somewhat mid. It could've been a little more flavorful. Very good service. We made reservations before hand and were quickly seated. Good also came out fast despite them being pretty busy. Beautiful ambiance. Perfect for a date night. This is one of my favorite spots for Sushi in Austin/Cedar Park proper. The sushi is extremely fresh and the portions are super generous. Of all of the bites - I loved the salmon and the madai (sea bream) nigiri the best. I also think the KT Special is my favorite thing on the menu - I wouldn't have ordered it but I saw it being prepared and I'm so happy I found it bc it reminds me of my favorite dish at a sushi spot in another state but this one is better. Oh and the layered crepe dessert was so incredible my gosh - I say the matcha tiramisu go bye and I am still glad I ordered the crepe to end my meal instead. I love the interior of this restaurant as well. The environment is very simple and quaint and the seating is great and it feels very authentic. I love sitting at the sushi bar as well it's honestly great service to sit there and watch the sushi being made! I will be a consistent customer here! Reservation only, with a maximum of 6. The pieces here were HUGE. Their nigiri compared to other places are probably double the size. The uni pasta was buttery but didn't feel heavy at all. Tonkatsu was fried perfectly, very moist. The tonkatsu sauce is a little strong so make sure you add it to the sesame seeds, but make sure you don't add too much. In an inconspicuous location in a strip mall is a gem of a high end Japanese restaurant. The interior is well decorated of simple wooden/industrial motifs. Everything looks classy without pretentiousness. We had the 15 omakase course (required reservation ahead of time), for which you sit at the bar with the chef deciding your sushi courses and making the sushi in front of you. The experience was wonderful as he was attentive to every detail of your food. The sushi pieces were huge (you are supposed to eat in one bite) and super fresh; they melt in your mouth with beautiful flavors. In between sushi there were also oysters, scallops, and shrimp. The desserts were also made in house and delicious. The staff were nice and polite, and very helpful. The overall experience was great but it wasn't cheap.
