After all the years we have eaten at Kami Teriyaki with nothing but great service and food, I regret to say that we will not be going back. We tried to ignore the dirty/bordering on filthy - floors and walls as we waited for our to go order to be completed. When I paid for the order I saw that we were charged a "bag" fee of 20 cents, no big deal but the typical charge is 8 cents around town. Now to the food. What happened?? We ordered chicken teriyaki and a California roll. The chicken was tough, (I had to cut a piece of fat off of one piece) and tasted like it was cooked on a dirty wok with old stagnant oil. The salmon in the roll was fishy, whereas it used to delicious. I'm sorry to leave this review, but it's important to let management know that they really need to up their game. read more

We visited this restaurant on New Years EVE, and it seemed busy. We ordered 2 combo meals with chicken, 8 gyozas and a side order of tempura pawns. Brought the order home and we found 1 chicken combo meal, 1 beef teriyaki, and 11 gyozas. I immediately called and said that I didn't receive the second chicken combo meal or my tempura prawns. They said they would have them ready for pickup. I drove back to the store, and waited for my order. When they handed it to me I debated whether I should open the bag and look at the contents and it's on me that I didn't because when I got home I had the correct chicken combo but still no tempura prawns. I really wasn't feeling sushi so decided to try the shrimp and vegetable tempura. The shrimp wasn't even tempura. It was soggy, a totally different batter, tasteless. The veggies, not fresh at all. I've eaten here 4-5 times over the last couple of years. I usually just order the Teriyaki Chicken. This time we tried the Teriyaki Salmon it was way over cooked, dry and unappetizing, probably from frozen. We also tried a sushi roll with fish on top, it was so bad, the fish was a faded pink color, it was supposed to be tuna, it was warm and flavorless fish, it was not tuna. The Kung Pao is not spicy at all, it just tasted like ketchup and corn starch, I was so confused, ended up throwing it away. I'd rather go to Fred Meyer from now on to buy freeze bag food and cook it myself and it would turn out better than what I spent $80 to buy a family meal here. I could cook better than this. They're not even trying. I threw away about $40 of the food I ordered. The Chicken Teriyaki was fine. read more

Normally, I don't get take out from Kami. This is my first time getting take out since the pandemic started. Wanted things I can reheat for safety. Instead of sushi, I ordered broccoli beef, Mongolian beef, general tso's chicken, teriyaki chicken, tempura shrimp and veggies and another side of tempura prawns. All came to $67. Big portions. I was impressed for that many items at 4pm on a Saturday I was quoted 15 minutes and it was done by the promised time. The only critique I have is that the tempura recipe changed. I didn't like the tempura prawns at all. The veggies are tempura but the prawns are over fried panko batter. I asked for teriyaki sauce on the side but there was no sauce in my bag other than a gazillion sauce for dipping my tempura. This may sound like a bad review but I still gave a four star for the generous portion size and offering extra rice when I said no salad. I am not sure if the owners changed, I hope they stick to the original recipes from the previous owners on everything because that's what everyone loved about Kami. The restaurant is dirty, floors are sticky, the restaurant is messy and the food isn't what it use to be. We both had Teriyaki Chicken and the chicken was better than most teriyaki places, but the actual teriyaki sauce felt a bit thinner than most places. I suspect the thinner sauce is more authentic Japanese, while common Seattle teriyaki is sweeter. If I went again I might try the sushi, but that won't work for my wife. Overall this was a small amount better than the other two teriyaki places we have tried in Monroe, but still not up to the best in 20 miles. This place had to have changed ownership. It used to be my favorite! Went in today and they had a hard time with a very simple order - fried rice and a spring roll. Then when I asked if they had teriyaki sauce, seeing none on the tables, she asked if I wanted 2 and I watched a 50 cent charge pop up on the register. When I got home I noticed I was missing the teriyaki! And instead had a cheap soy sauce packet in the box laying right on top of my rice. Ew. The rice itself was not good. It was basically white rice with frozen peas and carrots and somehow still VERY VERY greasy. See the pic. I couldn't eat it all but there wasn't very much of it anyway. The spring roll was good but probably could have gotten the same one at Safeway or Panda Express. Glad I did not try the sushi as the place didn't seem very clean nor the ingredients fresh.
