Street Cred at Kalye This is my 3rd delivery order from Kalye fir work lunch in midtown. I order through Uber eats and it is all the way on the others side of the city so it is pretty expensive but we'll worth it. I always order the kare kare. The first time I added a pancit because I wanted to try other dishes but realized the portuons are huge. I can split an order of kare kare into 2 lunches, I just have to order an extra rice and bagaoong. The Kalye kare kare has become my favorite in NYC. The meat is always tender falling off the bone. The veggies are crisp and fresh. The peanut sauce is tasteful with the perfect consistency, not too thick not too watery. Looking forward to dining in one day. read more

Kalye | Lower East Side 1. Pork ribs singang 2. Bangus sisig (sizzling milkfish) 3. Ube longganisa sliders 4. Halo-halo One of my favorite Filipino spots in the city We got the pork ribs sinigang, bangus sisig, ube longganisa sliders, and halo-halo. Everything was delicious, and the portions were generous and totally shareable! My favorites were definitely the bangus sisig and ube longganisa sliders Such a great spot for Filipino flavors with a fun twist. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Came to Kalye for lunch with a friend. As a Filipino, I was craving some authentic Filipino food and was excited to give this spot a try. They had a lot of classic Filipino dishes on the menu, and we ordered from their lunch menu. I opted for the beef kare-kare, while my friend got the sisig. The kare-kare came with a generous portion of beef, and the presentation was nice. However, I felt like the peanut sauce was lacking that strong, rich peanut flavor you typically get with kare-kare. I think having it with oxtail might have given the dish a richer and more authentic flavor. The sisig was also just alright. The flavor itself was good, but I wish it had been much crispier. I'm used to sisig coming out on a sizzling platter with those crispy pieces throughout, but since this was the lunch portion, it came out in a bowl instead. It wasn't bad, but the texture was definitely missing that crispiness I was looking for. The star of the show was easily the ube horchata. It was delicious and had a strong ube flavor with a nice cinnamon taste that paired really well together. The drink itself was so good, but it was pretty expensive for the size, especially since the cup was filled with a lot of ice. I definitely wish you got more for the price. The interior was decorated nicely with plenty of Filipino elements and decorations throughout. Service was pretty slow, though, especially considering we were only one of two parties there at the time. Overall, the food was alright, but nothing really stood out to me enough that I'd come back specifically for the Filipino food. I could see myself stopping by again for the drinks or cocktails if I'm in the area, especially that ube horchata. read more

Located in East Village, this vibrant Filipino spot offers some pretty solid Filipino food and amazing service! We came here for my friend's birthday and got their feast and it was so fun to share. It came with chicken, pork, and fish with yummy rice and some fresh veggies. They also gave complimentary ube ice cream as a celebration of my friend's birthday and it was probably the best ube ice cream I've ever had. Their cocktails are also so good. Highly recommend! read more

This is one of the very few Filipino restaurants in Manhattan but they got everything you would find in the Philippines! They have a nice mix of mimosa flavors like guava and lychee, and their cocktail selection was so unique. I liked the Pandan Pop mocktail and my friend got the Braguda which is like an alcoholic ube horchata. I really enjoyed their crunchy Lumpia Shanghai with the tastiest savory filling. The Lechon Kawali was so crispy and fatty too and paired with the rice, was a great choice. The Pancit HabHab was different than typical pancit palabok that I've had as they use egg noodles in this one. It was very unique! I think the noodles were a tad overcooked and it overall lacked flavor unfortunately. The servers were really sweet though and were very attentive. read more

Glad to have come back to check out the new happy hour menu, appetizers and other additions. The cocktails are the star with the Ang bato cocktail that is perfectly crafted along with their special Negroni and soursop drink. Highly recommend coming for happy hour and trying out their catering menu the next time you have an event because who doesn't love Filipino food? read more

So glad to be able to get a reservation here on a Friday night!! Was looking for some Filipino comfort food with good cocktails for a quick day trip to New York and found Kalye recommended on Yelp! Jerremiah provided really great service and we felt so welcome!!! The grilled okra was so delicious with the toyomansi and the sisig was very well seasoned and was very flavorful. Will definitely be coming back next time I'm in New York! The place was super lively and they were playing showtime which was a nice touch of home. read more

Kalye transports me back to the Philippines, where my family is from. The food here tastes very authentic, and although the flavors are a little more muted than the Filipino food my family would make growing up, it is still delicious. I love seeing a restaurant serving high-quality, great Filipino food in New York City! It is a little on the expensive side, but definitely worth trying. The food is great, the atmosphere inside feels authentically Filipino, and the servers are super friendly and welcoming. I cannot recommend this place enough! read more

Kalye - Filipino Near Me - New York, New York

I AM 100% PINOY ON MY MOM I LOVE KALYE!! In Manhattan, this is the best Filipino food and I'm not even sure that's up for discussion. None of that gimmicky fusion mess at Kalye. If you want something else like this, you've gotta go to Queens. If you want the fusion stuff, stay in the city. I've been to Kalye multiple times and each time it never misses. The flavors of every dish is a flavor from home. The kinilaw is a perfect vinegary starter with delicious chunks of tuna. The dish has a nice hint of spice and aromatics. I'd gladly suggest the laing with chips as well. If you're wary of what to get, get the lumpia and pork bbq skewers for something more tried and true. The bangus in this bangsilog is always fried to perfection, allowing the initiated to eat every piece including the skin and head. The sisig is soooo good! Mixing in the uncooked yolk into the sizzling dish, allowing every bit of meat to integrate well with each other. It's a beautiful spoonful. The aromatics and spices in the sisig complement the pork beautifully. If you have a chance, I recommend the Boodle Fight Club! This large shareable meal is a great intro into Filipino culture and cuisine. It's a prime Filipino invitation to great conversations with even greater food. Service at Kalye was prompt and great, no notes everyone there is amazing. read more

Shoutout Justin and Brendan! We came to Kalye with a big group of 7 people and ordered the big Boodle Fight platter, as well as a couple of other dishes (noodles) just in case we were still hungry. I think for such a large group an extra dish or two helps but we were super super stuffed and satisfied by the end of the meal. Service was great and kept helping us out with the crowded table area. The food itself was stunningly good- the crispy fish and pork of course but even just the white meat of the chicken was so juicy and tasty! Eating with our hands was the most fun and they give you gloves anyway so you stay clean. The cocktails were delicious as well, I really recommend them. Our nice servers also gave us a bonus shot at the end which was a great send off. Cannot recommend this place highly enough! 5/5 will be coming here again for sure. read more

This is one of the best filipino food I've ever had! And I don't say this lightly, I grew up in San Diego (specifically Mira mesa aka Manila Mesa). Most of my friends growing up were filipinos so I've had my fair share of filipino food. Kalye honestly makes SD filipino food seem so mid (sorry not sorry). And they're so accommodating if you want to celebrate a birthday here! A week before my friend's birthday I wanted to make a resy and they were flexible when I had last minute changes and let me bring a cake and even decorated it like I had requested. The night went so smooth so I really appreciated it! Highly highly recommend the boodle fight, such a fun food activity too read more

I enjoyed my experience at Kalye! For food we got the bbq pork skewers, pork Sisig, and halo halo for dessert. My favorite was the skewers. They were tender and flavorful. The pork Sisig was good too, but a bit too salty. The halo halo was also a fun dessert to try since it had ice cream, jellies, beans, etc. This portion was good for two people. The restaurant is very loud. They have music playing and a bar so it can be hard to hear at times with all the conversations and music going on. A good place to visit before a night out. read more

Lechon kawali and beef kare kare were both great but lechon was prob better - crispy and tender even though a bit fatty. Wish the rice was warmer. Had the halo halo years ago at their old location which was nice on a summer day. Very typical LES atmosphere - loud and dark on a Sat evening but service was great. Need to return for a Sun karaoke night and also the boodle fight (!) Portion is for 3-4 so will have to come back with a group. read more

Decided to try this place with a few friends last Saturday and was not disappointed! The experience was nice from the moment we walked in. The vibe is electric yet cozy. It provides a perfect Lower East Side energy with great music, dim lighting, and that authentic Manila street-food soul without feeling gimmicky. Service was warm, attentive, and genuinely excited to talk about the menu. We ordered this incredible beef soup as our main shareable dish. Wow! it was perfection in a steaming pot. Tender, fall-off-the-bone beef chunks with marrow-rich depth, swimming in a rich, aromatic broth infused with cinnamon sticks, eggplants, okras, green beans, and other veggies that soaked up all the flavors. The broth had this beautiful balance: savory, sweet from the long simmer, with those warm spice notes from the cinnamon cutting through any heaviness. It was comforting, soul-warming, and exactly what you crave on a chilly night. We fought over the last spoonfuls! Generous portions, authentic flavors, and clearly made with care. Portions are hearty enough to share. For anyone craving real-deal Filipino comfort food in NYC, Kalye delivers big time. Would definitely return. read more

BOMB BOMB BOMB. I've been in craving lumpia bad and found this place with a quick google search. Off Rip the restaurant smelled delicious! So delicious and our server Raneem had such a great vibe, was super fun, and provided a bunch of recommendations! I was hungry and wanted to try everything so I requested that they choose for us. Raneem recommended the lumpia, Laing with chips, and we got fries to start. For our entree we shared the pork sisig. When I tell you everything was perfect! Everything we ate was legit perfect! Came with two friends the other night for dinner and we loved Kalye. Super fun, hip place. We were seated by the window and the weather outside was gorgeous so it felt amazing. We were there for happy hour and ordered a bunch of items: - Pork BBQ Skewers: tender, juicy, so flavorful - Tuna Kinilaw: the tuna was super fresh in a solid vinegar marinade, start with this before having other dishes because the other dishes are so packed with flavor that this may taste bland after trying the other dishes - Lechon: what's not to love about crispy pork belly? Even though there isn't a pork belly I have disliked, this dish was still a star and highly recommend. - Lumpia: super crispy on the outside but the flavor of the filling was incredible - Isaw skewers: if you love funky flavors and textures (which I do), this is your dish!! My friends didn't love it as much but definitely worth a try - Balut: I have always wanted to try it so we did here! I enjoyed it but don't have anything to compare it to If you are considering a drink, absolutely get the Elektra--it was by far our favorite and we ordered a second round. It was so bright and fruity and flavorful. There was something very familiar about the drink that I couldn't put my finger on and I still cannot describe. We loved our time at Kalye and would absolutely recommend! read more

Kalye - Filipino Near Me - New York, New York

As a Filipino, this restaurant has my approval! Filipino food, to me, is nostalgic. I often crave the homestyle dishes my mother made or the dishes I used to get from our local carenderia. Kalye exudes nostalgia. You can see it in its decor, from the sari-sari store perched on their bar to the Capiz windows hung against their walls. You can also taste it in their food. I came with a dear friend, and we ordered three meals from the lunch menu: the sisig, the pork barbecue, and the laing. All were absolutely delicious. It not only satisfied my cravings but also alleviated some of my homesickness. My friend, who is new to Filipino dishes, loved everything as well, and we both vowed to return. Now, let's discuss the food in detail. The star of the show, for both me and my friend, was the sisig. The pork is crip. The flavor, bright and citrusy. The laing comes in close second: It is so wonderfully creamy, a cozy dish on a cold fall day. The pork barbecue was delicious as well. Beautifully charred, sweet and savory. Each dish comes with rice, and if you ever visit, I must urge you to order their inasal rice! It's full of flavor and will only enhance any dish it accompanies. It is so good, you can even enjoy it alone without the ulam (aka mains)! I do want to return here. I had such a wonderful time. The food was good, the company excellent, and the service superb -- we were served by the restaurant owner himself, Rob Mallari-DAuria, who was incredibly helpful, kind, and attentive. I wish him and his restaurant the best of luck. I can't wait to come here again (and perhaps bring a bigger group of friends!). read more

This is second time I have tried their food. This time I went to their new location by Delancey Street (LES). The original location I have been to seems to temporary closed (shown on Yelp). Based on my memories I enjoyed their food. This time my friend wanted to go so we went. The time we went was in the evening. I made a RSVP since i wasn't sure if it will be busy. Surprising it was since there were large parties when we arrived. I love the vibe and space that moved into. It is spacious compared to before. This place gave me an evening hangout vibe. The decor and lighting is perfect. Not too dark and not too bright. I can still see my food and menu. The service was okay. Since there were two/ three large parties and the restaurant was full and busy. The service was a bit slow when it came to our orders. But we made the best of it. We had nice drinks and appetizers as we waited for our entrée. Overall, we enjoyed the food and drinks. I would definitely come back for another round. read more

For desert, we ordered the Buko Pie. No notes - everything was absolutely delicious! If I had to pick my top favorite, it would have to be the Lechon Kawali. Cuisine: 3 Service: 6 Decor: 9 Value: 2 Overall: 4 4.9 rating on Yelp? What am I missing? Honestly, I see the reasons why people may love this restaurant. The interior design is vibrant, colorful, and festive. What a fun environment to make you feel like you are actually in a tropical place like the Philippines. I really liked the restaurant decor. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. I got a Baby Squid that was relatively tender, but under seasoned. More importantly, the bland filling was boring as can be. Even worse and complete opposite, their Water Spinach was super salty and basically inedible. To add insult to injury, the prices for food I get in Woodside, at half the price is just offensive. Short reviews/recs- Laing, Pork BBQ Skewers, Kare-Kare. Rest were good to decent. I was at this Filipino restaurant a couple months ago with one of my usual groups. This is apparently the second location on the Lower East Side though it seems like the other one is temporarily closed with it also being similarly named. This is also unrelated to Kalye Bistro in Queens which was tasty as well. The service was friendly and the inside is unique with some old Filipino movies on a TV among other fun things. The food was overall tasty with a couple definite highlights. The best thing arrived pretty early which was the Laing With Chips listed as taro simmered in a creamy coconut milk paired with crispy chips for a savory and crunchy twist on a Filipino classic. I am a big fan of this dish and this was a very good example with the dip being a good mix of soft with some thicker pieces of taro. It was savory with light sweetness but not too much and just enough kick to it as well. This was excellent though some might complain the shrimp paste flavor is a bit light as this might have been a vegetarian version. Also very tasty were the Pork BBQ Skewers listed as tender pork shoulder marinated in banana ketchup and grilled to perfection served on skewers for a smoky, savory bite. The pork was tender with a bit of heat and a bit of char from the grill. There's of course some better spots for this such as some places in Woodside and I maybe would have liked a slightly more fatty flavor with atchara over the unique salad they gave with the dish but those are mild complaints for an overall good version and especially for Manhattan. The Lumpia Shanghai listed as crispy fried spring rolls filled with seasoned ground pork and vegetables and served with a sweet dipping sauce were decent. They were a little bit larger than the usual lumpia and were crispy though perhaps a tad oily. The sweet sauce went OK with it but I would have preferred some chili vinegar. This was okay but there's better appetizers. For main dishes, the Kare-Kare listed as a rich and creamy Pork Belly stew with lechon and vegetables simmered in peanut sauce and served with bagoong on the side was solid and a fun spin on the usual with the pork belly instead of the usual oxtail being more tender and easier to pick at. The peanut sauce was thick enough but not too much and there was enough plenty of eggplant and bok choy. My only complaint would be that I would prefer a little bit more heat but the bagoong helped with flavor. The Pork Sisig listed as crispy, savory pork seasoned with calamansi, onions, and chili and served sizzling for a flavorful, mouthwatering experience was pretty good. I liked the mix of textures as it had a bit of crunch to it either from the garlic or something else in there which is lacking from some places though there is less so here compared to the excellent Mama Fina which specializes in said dish so it's a bit unfair. It could have been a little bit spicier for my liking but it was enough. The dish also lacked the raw egg which is mixed in to add more of a creamy texture and I blame the neighborhood for them not adding this. This was an overall perfectly okay version though probably the most toned down dish compared to the original. We also got a side of the Inasal Rice or steamed rice infused with rich annato oil and garlic creating a fragrant, flavorful base for any meal which was fine. It was lightly nutty and slightly garlicky and I probably would have just preferred some normal sinangag/ garlic rice as I found the flavors a tad light. This was an overall good meal with a couple different highlights. The prices were pretty reasonable and the flavors were better than the only other Filipino place in the surrounding neighborhood (Gugu Room) while worse than a few other spots. As half of the dishes were very good, I'll keep up with the 5 train. read more

Super fun Filipino restaurant with traditional kamayan (eat w hands served on a banana leaf). Had some popular foods (lechon - fried pork belly, bangus - marinated milk fish, chicken, pork BBQ sticks, and of course lumpia - egg rolls) + traditional sauces for each. Thankfully it also had garlic and white rice and steamed vegetables because it can be rich (I grew up on this, and love it!). Can finish w traditional dessert - we did the halo halo (mix mix) shaved ice which had ube ice cream, lots of jellies and beans, condensed milk and toasted pinipig. I was sad when several Filipino restaurants closed. Glad this one opened. Good for groups and family friendly! Great for introducing friends and visitors to Filipino food. Will be back!
