We also had the pork sisig, which had a great mix of tender and crispy pork pieces. It was paired great with the garlic rice. And for dessert, we had the ube sipao, which came out warm and topped with coconut and filled with ube -- the perfect way to end a meal. They have a lot of small tables. Came by for a Friday dinner -- our party of 2 didn't have a reservation but we managed to snag a walk-in table around 6:30pm. It's not the biggest restaurant though, so we probably got lucky (you should definitely make a res). -- Pork BBQ skewers were so delicious! The BBQ sauce was just the right amount of sweet, and the pork was cooked so well (juicy and tender). Portion size did feel a bit small for the price point, though -- Pork sisig was good. I liked how the onions / sour flavouring complemented the savoury flavour of the pork. It was a bit too salty to eat by itself (and we didn't quite finish), but fortunately we had some rice on the side to mellow it out somewhat. -- Finally we had the bangus binalot, which was good too. Milkfish is not the most common to find in the US and I was pleasantly surprised to find such a great dish here. It did not feel too oily/heavy from frying, and the fish paired excellently with the fragrant garlic rice. Overall, I had a very nice meal, and the price point was not unreasonable. The food is just OK. There aren't many Filipino spots in Manhattan specifically so sometimes it feels like you just have to take what you can get. We got the pork sisig, the pork skewers, garlic rice and the milkfish. The pork sisig was too fatty for my taste, wished it had more combination of skinny meaty pieces instead of the excess amount of fatty pieces. The garlic rice wasn't that flavorful to me sadly. The milkfish was something new I had never tried and I enjoyed it but it definitely is very salty; more salty than what I would have liked. Wow, what an incredible experience at Kalye! I booked a Kamayan Dinner (Boodle Fight) for my birthday dinner. The process was so easy since they include everything for $65pp (plus tax and gratuity). The Kamayan dinner included a gorgeous and generous spread of traditional filipino food including pork, chicken, beef, seafood with vegetables, salad, fruit, sides, and sauces. This was such an epic meal and everyone was so impressed by the quantity and quality of this restaurant. Everything was so delicious and well marinated that I can't even choose a favorite item. After we were all done eating, it looked like we barely made a dent. Luckily, we were able to packed everything up and enjoy the leftovers. In the end, they also surprised me with candles on some Ube Siopao. It was creamy and delicious inside, but I was way too full to finish it. Seriously one of the best dining experiences. This is the perfect feast for any celebration. They were also super quick and responsive with any changes I had throughout. My friend wanted to try out this raved-about Filipino spot, so we planned it well in advance. We reserved this restaurant for two for Saturday lunch and came on time but the store gave our seats away. Luckily we only had to wait 15 minutes until a section was cleared for us. I'm not sure if we ordered the wrong things but I was sadly quite disappointed with the food at Kalye. We ordered the ube sliders, lechon, pork adobo, and a side of inasal rice. The ube sliders and inasal rice were solid, but I was disappointed with the pork adobo and the lechon. The pork adobo came with white rice, but the rice was either undercooked or old rice that wasn't reheated properly because there were many hard bits of rice that tasted as if it was undercooked. I ended up forgoing the rice, but sadly, without the rice, the pork was too salty. The lechon came with this a fried strip of what looked like pork rind. I tried to take a bite of the pork rind and seriously feared for my teeth because it was as hard as a rock, which made it almost impossible to eat. I also found that the pork of the lechon was fattier than I liked and I wished there was more crispy pork skin. I made ressies for 6 people a month in advance for a Saturday night since I would be visiting NY and knew this place was popular. As well as tiny. We were greeted when we walked in and I was surprised to see only one waitress working on this busy Saturday night. Place is cute. Every table was occupied except ours that was ready for us. The menu is pretty meat heavy. I'm not a vegetarian but not a good place to take a vegetarian, which unfortunately was one of my friends as she only had an appie and side to choose from. No entrees... Esaladong talong- If you like tangy and vinegar-y food you'll like this. I prefer my eggplant savory but this was good. We ate it with a small plate of the inasal rice. The flavor was good just wish there was more of a garlic flavor but the rice tasted like day old.... Pork belly kare kare - the sauce is delicious. Don't forget to ask for the bagoong. We Filipinos know kare kare is supposed to be with oxtail not pork belly so a lil disappointed with that. But a couple of the pork belly pieces were tough and too hard to bite into. Meh. Oh and not a fan of paying $4 for a small plate of white rice! The $32 kare kare does not come with rice and ya'll know you need to eat this dish with rice. Stopped by Kalye, a Filipino spot in the Lower East Side, because I really wanted to try their Club 85, but you need a party of three or more, and I was just with one other person. Oh well, maybe next time! The staff were super nice though--really friendly and attentive. The vibe is chill and relaxed, perfect for a low-key hangout. We ended up ordering the pork barbecue skewers, mango salad, and crispy lumpia (spring rolls). I was excited for the mango salad, but it was a huge letdown. The mango wasn't ripe, so it didn't have any flavor. The tomatoes and cucumbers didn't have much seasoning either. There was some black pepper on top, but it didn't help much--it was pretty bland overall. The crispy lumpia looked cool, stacked up like little building blocks, and came with fish sauce. But when I tried the lumpia with the fish sauce, it was way too salty. When I ate it on its own, it didn't have much flavor, but dipping it in sweet chili sauce made a huge difference. With the sweet chili sauce, it was perfect! The pork barbecue skewers were good, though. They came with rice and four pretty big skewers. Some of the meat was a little burnt, so I had to pick off those bits, and the first piece I had was fat, which was tough to chew. But after that, the rest was all meat, and it was delicious! 5/5 wow the food here is great. The first time i tried to come by for lunch and the wait was over 30 minutes and I ended up leaving because I was so hungry. The next time I came I decided to join the waitlist ahead of time. The restaurant itself is pretty small but the food is totally worth it. I had the cripsy lumpia, ube longganisa sliders, and the pork sisig. All of it was soooo good. The ube longganisa sliders were so unique and worth a try. I feel like Filipino restaurants are a rare cuisine to come by in NYC, so it is welcoming to see them claim a spot in LES. The menu is very pork heavy, which would be my complaint, but I made the best of it as it's highly recommended. It was hard to have multiple items with the amount of table space we had, which was tiny. Didn't help that there was table decor taking up space. I have never seen anyone offer Nanjing Black Beer's Master Gao ($10) so I had to get this. If you're a dark beer person, this is for you. For appetizers, we started off with the Ube Longganisa Sliders ($12.50). You get two sliders so my buddy and I each had one. They definitely make good snacks if you're not looking for a full dinner. For entrees, we ordered the Pork Lechon ($22), which is a 4 hour loaded pork belly over rice with crispy pork rind. Definitely love that crispy fried pork skin. It was for sure pork galore. I have been wanting to try Kalye for awhile now and finally was able to last night. Service is my main concern for giving this location a 4 star review. It started with check-in. The host was not able to locate my Resy reservation but still sat us. There was a band performing and it was so loud which I believe factors into why our service was not up to snuff. We placed our order and specifically requested mocktails / non-alcoholic beverages and received drinks with prosecco. The establishment redeemed themselves by removing the drinks from the bill and bringing a non-alcoholic drinks. This really put a damper to the start of the meal. The appetizers were fantastic - Laing w/chips and Tuna Kinnilaw were delectable. The dipping sauce for the Laing was rich with coconut and the calamansi was made the Kinnilaw. The mains arrived (Beef Tapa and Mushroom Sisig). Both were great but our order arrived incorrectly. We only ordered one of each and 2 Mushroom Sisigs arrived. Management again came to our table, removed the extra meal from our bill and apologized. I haven't been able to eat sisig since I gave up meat ages ago and the mushroom sisig reminded of when my father would make it for all the family gatherings. The band was pleasant but the sound was just too loud. We could barely carry on a conversation without having to repeat ourselves because we could not hear each other. If we were not able to hear ourselves how could we expect the server to hear our order clearly. All in all a great experience but management should consider adjusting the band volume to allow for patrons to enjoy their meal and music simultaneously. read more

The ambiance is casual with lots of contemporary street art sprayed on the walls. Don't miss the restroom walls too, with cool LGBT-focused artwork. The Filipino food is awesome! Course after course kept coming out. The Crispy Lumpia were pretty good, but the Inasal Wings were really tangy and tasty. Yum! Pork Sisig was also delicious. This is a modern Filipino restaurant near Chinatown/East Village that has a tight indoor seating but plentiful outdoor seating. If I do it again I'd opt for outdoor as the indoor space is really tight - they fit 6 of us in a table of 4 which makes it hard to enjoy all the dishes we ordered. We got the Club 85 that is a miniature boodle fight format featuring lechon pork belly, lumpia, pork skewers, tangy inasal wings, grilled beef, and steamed veggies along with regular and inasal (garlic) rice. The garlic rice here is not as garlicky as the usual that I usually am familiar with, so it is a bit more subtle. The meat cuts here are pretty okay - there's way too much fat in the pork belly. The lumpia is a bit dry but the wings and beef were excellent. The rice is a bit inconsistent in the board - there was a portion of it that was way too soft for my liking but the rest were fine. You're encouraged to use your hands (gloves provided) for the full experience. We also got ube longganida sliders that were my favorite savory dish here, with a very subtle ube flavor aside from the color. Pork sisig was good but still the fraction of the meat is a bit fatty. The pork adobo ribs were good but not memorable - it wasn't really worth the price tag of $30. For dessert, we got the halo halo which is prepared as expected and the ube pao was a bit sweeter but I didn't really taste the ube there. Service is a bit of a miss as we were a large group but water refills were scarce, which is not okay since it was really hot outside and AC inside is pretty weak. Wanted to love this place but it left me disappointed. Two of the things I wanted were out. I realize they were closed the next day but to be out TWO things just didn't sit well with me. Ended up getting the Inasal Wings and the Inasal Rice. I was skeptical when I saw it was only 6 wings but it's 6 whole wings cut up (minus the flap, of course) so that was a happy surprise! The flavor was all there. VERY good BUT I think they could've been cooked a little longer. I like my chicken to fall off the bone. The Inasal Rice was delicious but I half expected a more garlicky flavor. Service was great! Our server was super friendly and kind. I loved his spirit.
