My work provides vision insurance through Kaiser Permanente and this is the first time I've used their services. My insurance only covers 20%, which then makes their prices similar or even more costly than other optometry because Kaiser is 20%+ more expensive than other places. I came here for eye exam, contact lenses, and glasses.
I made an appointment on kp.org. It informed me to bring my current contact lenses' boxes to avoid a "fitting fee." Well they charged me a "fitting fee" anyways because they had to increase my astigmatism prescription. Well they didn't do anything extra to "fit" me to my new contact lenses, since it's a prescription change only, just as if they just changed the power. Contact lens diameter stayed the same as my previous contact lenses so I don't see how this would count as a refitting and had to charge me extra $79??? Anyways I just bit the cost since I was there already.
Then onto the glasses. I took a while to choose my frame but after I did that everything went fast and smoothly, and I was on my way after paying the bill.
Over two weeks later, I finally received a call from their automated system to pick up my new glasses. I went in with my contact lenses because I do not have a current pair of glasses. I told them I have my contacts on. They tell me they don't have a case or contact solution for me to remove my contacts. Huh. I thought this was an optometry. So I took the glasses home without them fitting it for me and found that the sight line was very low. The prescription was "correct," but only if the glasses was floating 1 centimeter above where it would naturally be sitting on my nose bridge. Most people tend to have the glasses sitting so that the eyes are looking through the top third of the glasses when looking straight. The way the glass was cut, my eyes would have to be exactly at the middle of the glass to see. Rarely anybody wears their glasses like that, and especially not an Asian with barely a nose bridge.
I went back to have them fix it. I already knew the problem with these glasses and I voiced them to the tech. I knew it's not fixable, the glass has to be remade. But the tech insists trying to fix it through bending the frame at various angles. Around 5 tries later he finally gives up and puts in an order for the glass to be remade.
I received this second pair of glasses and the sight line is correct now, but I cannot see through the bottom 2/3 of the glass at all. Whoever they contract to make these glasses clearly do not know what they are doing at all. The focal point throughout the entire area of the glass should be on my eyes but they are not. With this pair, I would have to TILT the glasses forward to the point where the arms are floating above my ears by a good inch before I can see clearly through all points of the glasses.
I don't understand why they are having such a difficult time making proper glasses. I've purchased glasses from online retailers where all they ask is your prescription and they've all turned out perfectly fine without any of these issues.
IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY AND TIME, DO NOT EVER COME HERE. I'm stuck now since I've paid them already so hopefully they will fix my glasses soon. read more
