The office is run well, great staff, great personnel, great assistants, and of course Dr. Vipapan OD is a great optometrist who thoroughly checks my vision each visit and makes necessary and proper recommendations. I once had an issue with a particle in my eye and he was very helpful and referred me where I needed to get additional tests. I also feel like they always do proper eye exam checks, and tests and Dr. Vipapan is very patient and what I believe a true professional should be in his field. I want to start out by saying this review is not a reflection of Dr. Vipapan. He was incredibly thorough, knowledgeable and kind. However, I cannot say the same for his front desk staff. When I filled out the intake paperwork I noted that I had worn contacts in the past but marked "no" that I did not need a contact fitting exam. During the exam, Dr. Vipapan asked if I have worn contacts previously and I said "yes". He ended up doing the eye exam and had me try some different contacts as I mentioned the ones I had used in the past would bother me. I thought this was all part of the standard eye exam because I had assumed he read the paperwork where it showed I marked "no" to the contact fitting exam so I went along with it. I ended up trying on a pair and he proceeded to give me a few day supply. When the exam was over, I went to the front desk to pay the $30 for the retinal imaging test so I was surprised when the woman gave me a total of $170. When I asked her why the total was so high she told me, in a very shaming tone "because Medi-Cal doesn't cover the contact fitting part of the exam." I told her I didn't ask for that part of the exam and even marked "no" on the intake paperwork. She said, "Oh, *name of other staff member* didn't ask you?" "No, she did not. She only mentioned the $30 for the retinal imaging." "Oh, well, you need to throw those contacts away then because you don't want to pay for them and you need to take the ones that he gave you out of your eyes and throw them away in front of me." I honestly couldn't believe what she was asking of me...to take the contacts in my eyes out that the Dr just had me put on and throw them away in front of her. How dehumanizing! She tried to make me feel like a thief because I couldn't afford an exam I didn't even ask for! This is how you treat your patients?! I am absolutely appalled. I don't know about you but insurance can be incredibly confusing and in my past experience, the intake staff go over your insurance and benefits with you at the beginning but all this woman did was shame me for 1. Not bringing the right insurance card and telling me I should always carry that specific one on me (mind you, no doctor's office of any kind has ever asked for that specific card she was requesting) and 2. Not being able to afford the contact exam that I didn't even ask for. I truly believe the women at the front desk are classist a**holes who look down on people who need medi-cal and can't afford private insurance. My partner was in the waiting room during my exam and asked another woman at the front desk if they accepted their specific Medi-Cal insurance plan and this woman looked at her like she was trash and pointed to and said "those are the cheapest glasses we have." What an unfortunate experience as I looked forward to seeing Dr. Vipapan again for my next exam but I will not ever be coming back to this place. I hope that Dr. Vipapan hires some new people that actually want to help his patients because his current staff are going to continue driving patients in need away. read more

Very highly recommend!! Dr. Vipapan and his entire staff are wonderful! I have been going to The Eye Place Optometry in Pasadena for years, both at the previous location on Lake Ave and then the super convenient current location on Green Street. Dr. Vipapan and his entire team have always been extremely knowledgeable, well organized and professional, wonderfully personal and kind, and wonderful about answering all of my questions, big and small. They have kept excellent track of my changing needs as my eyes age, and have always offered the best service imaginable when fitting me with each new pair of contacts and eyeglasses (Mindy is amazing at eyeglass adjustments--a true artiste! If you have one ear higher than the other and one pupil higher than the other, then you know how important the individualized fitting process is). I have benefitted immensely over the years from honest, thoughtful discussions with Dr. Vipapan about the pros and cons in my case of new technological developments, including new types of lenses and potential surgeries. I appreciate The Eye Place's stylish, high quality selection of frames --S.A.L.T.S. especially are hard to find, but they fit my Asian nose so well. Mindy has always been great about strategizing with me about how to make effective use my VSP vision insurance benefits and helping me experiment with new looks for my regular glasses. She helped me pick the perfect frames for my favorite new pair of prescription, progressive, combined near/far distance sunglasses. I use my favorite prescription sunglasses from The Eye Place every single day. My husband and I recently had to relocate out of state and we deeply miss Dr. Vipapan and his entire staff. read more

I've have been going to the other big eye place in Pasadena for years and always dreaded the experience. A coworker recommended Eye Place and I'm so grateful she did. The quality of care from registering over the phone, making that initial appointment to check in is unmatched. Dr. Vipapan's preformed an in-depth exam for glasses and contacts in a modern and clean environment. I must say TEN STARS for Mindy! With her vast knowledge she helped me pick out the perfect pair of glasses and lenses for my level of use. She juggled a few patients and tasks while helping me but I never felt rushed or neglected. Coming back for the fitting was great too, she was so meticulous with the fit. I can tell she wanted my glasses to be perfect and I really appreciate that. At first, i was skeptical about finding and trusting an optometry place from yelp because getting the right glasses and lens adjustments means a life for me. However, Dr. V's professionalism,experience, and knowledge completely changed my mind and cleared all the doubts i had!! I explained to him that i havent had my vision checked for the last 3years so he did a very thorough exam and patiently explained every step of the way. I was so glad i was able to find my yearly "go to" place for vision exam in my local neighborhood. Prior to the appt, I was able to call and have the office verify my insurance coverage so it was all set when i came in. After my appt with Dr.V, the technician patiently helped me pick out the right frame for my face based on the style and prefence i told her (sorry for spending 40mins trying on all the glasses and thank you so so much for bearing with me!!) After everything was done, I was given the run down on all the costs and copayments. I came back the following week to pick up my brand new glasses. Overall, the process was very smooth. Dr Vipapan is fantastic--thorough, helpful, and really cares about his patients. I'd had some iffy optometrist experiences in the past and am so happy to have found an amazing doctor close to home. Doing normal things like going to the eye doctor and dentist can be weird during a pandemic, but my visit to Eye Place was easy peasy and I'd highly recommend keeping up with appointments these days if you can. I called to make appointments for myself and my partner and they were able to get us in at the same time about two weeks later. I received a reminder text a few days before and they were ready with our intake forms right when we arrived. We filled them out onsite (I saw them disinfect they pens between uses) and we were both through our full exams in about an hour. Regarding COVID, the staff is wearing masks and shields and they've set up vinyl partitions at the front desk and glasses fitting station. They're also booking at half capacity and we only saw a couple other people while we were in. They are not taking temperatures onsite. Parking is easy in the lot around back (90 minutes free) and there's an entrance from the back or on Lake. The best part, aside from Dr Vipapan and his kind staff, is that this place is literally right next door to Randy's Donuts new Pasadena location. You bet we rewarded ourselves for being full fledged adults who get their eyes checked with some classic LA donuts. Until next time! read more

Dr. V is professional and thorough. I've been to a bunch of optometrists and he really took his time to get my prescription just right. I am so happy I found EPO - Mindy and the other women at the front desk are super helpful and friendly. I enjoyed my visits because they were pleasant and quick to let me get in and out with my contacts. One thing about Dr. V is he listens to what you're saying when you want to explain whether or not you can or cannot see clearly. Other optometrists I've been to "listen" and then hurriedly send you on your way with some RX that may or may not work. I was given trial lenses and wore them for a few days before deciding that YES, Dr. V has given me an RX that really works. I've recommended him to a few of my friends now so I hope they go to him and have the same great experience. Parking in lot behind the office is free for the first 90 minutes. read more

Yelp pays off! I've had vision insurance for years and never used it (stupid, I know). I haven't been to an optometrist for years and decided it was time to not waste it. I checked onto yelp for some of the optometrist in the area and found this highly rated. I called it to see if they took my insurance and they did. Unfortunately at the time, they had no Saturdays available for another month, but that was fine. I told them to put me on the wait list just in case as I live relatively close by. They called me a few days later and fit me in for the same weekend! Overall, great experience. All the ladies in the front were nice and helpful. Doctor V (sorry, I forgot your full name), was very nice and professional. He's kind of like your friendly next door neighbor in a very positive way. He explained everything as clearly as possible and took his time. Nothing seemed rushed at all. I've always heard of places trying to sell you on products so they can make the most money, but I didn't feel that way here. Surprisingly, Doctor V said my prescription hasn't changed at all (or much) from 5 years ago. He said if I didn't want any glasses, the ones I had were perfectly fine. Thankfully, my insurance does cover prescription sunglasses which I was desperately in need of. The girl that helped me (forgot her name), was very patient and told me all the cost and her recommendations which I went with. Glad I chose this place. read more

Dr. V is awesome!!!! Being new to the area I was looking for an Optometrist and came across Dr. V's office. I was living a few blocks away at the time so it was perfect. I have a pair of glasses which I didn't wear often but I went to Dr. V for a checkup with the thought that I might need to start wearing glasses more frequently or even try out contacts for the first time. He was very thorough with his examination and so nice. He gave me some contacts with my prescription to try out with a request that I come back a week or two later to see how the lenses worked out for me. I had to go back to his office MULTIPLE times. Rather than having me settle on the first set of contact lenses he suggested, Dr. V continued to have me try new lenses and come back to his office for a checkup to ensure that I would find a pair that worked out well. You could tell that he genuinely wants to make sure you get what you need and you are comfortable. Not only is Dr. V awesome, so is the rest of the staff. Since I did have to make multiple trips, I worked with the staff a lot for scheduling and everyone was very helpful and responsive. EYE will definitely continue to visit Dr. V's office for my optometry needs!! read more

I found this place thanks to Yelp, and the reviews are spot on. It is superb. It was easy to make an appointment, and there is a lot of parking just behind the office. It is possible to enter from the parking lot too, but the door is a bit hard to spot. I received great, friendly service from the reception staff and also from Dr V himself who really took the time to explain through each alteration he made during my eye exam. I will definitely be going back to Eye Place for all my optometry needs from now on, and I have also convinced my wife to transfer her eye care there. read more

My first time here was well over 1.5 years ago. First of all, Dr. V is pretty awesome. He gave me realistic advice about LASIK, which I appreciated. He even allowed me to try different contact lens brands to see which I liked best. Second, Mindy is just great. She's extremely helpful and nice. A truly genuine person! My first experience with her was awesome, and my second just confirms that about her. I hadn't come in for an exam in over a year, but I had run out of contact lenses to wear. Despite the fact that I needed to have an exam soon, she still checked with Dr. V and everything was squared away. I even asked if I could get a trial pair of lenses while I wait for my new order of contacts to come in. Mindy went out of her way to check their inventory, and though they didn't have the brand I wanted, she still gave me a different brand with my prescription! Finally, the doctor and his staff are not pushy sales people in the least. During the exam, he focused on my eyes and solutions to try to make them better (as it should be!). They don't try to sell you anything and understand budgets are quite the concern these days. In fact, they even suggest other companies that you can purchase glasses or contacts from like Costco, Walgreens, 1-800-CONTACTS, etc. If only more people followed their standards of customer service. read more

I've had a problem with the way that a pair of glasses I own has been fitting for about six months and I haven't had time to stop in to my eye doctor to adjust them. It has been bothering me so I simply did a Yelp search just now for optometrist that are open on a Saturday at this time. They came up I called and they said I could just come in. This review is just for Dr. Vipapan and Mindy. Both are 23 stars, THE BEST!! I really love this place. I had the same optometrist in San Diego from the time I was in pre school to college. When I moved to LA for college, I would try different optometrists but end up going to my old San Diego optometrist when I would visit my family. Finally, when I moved to Pasadena, I tried Dr. Vipapan. He will definitely be my optometrist until he retires or I move! Mindy is also very knowledgeable and helpful. This place has a great independent/family business vibe. My only criticism is that I do wish they had a better selection of higher end frames but I have never been to an optometrist that has the frames I want. I have always bought frames separately, so this is not expected at all. One last bonus is if you go here, there are 500000 restaurants and lots of shops in the area, so you can plan your lunch or whatever around it. Good location. Good parking. read more

After many years of not having my eyes checked and a recommendation from my buddy Emily, I scheduled my appointment with Dr. Vipapan. I first took notice that the facility was very nice and the staff was friendly. Dr. V was very nice and made my whole experience very pleasant and even gave me some useful advice on how to maintain my perfect vision (YES!).
