We have been going to South Pasadena Optometric group for the last 2 years and I am truly grateful for this office. Dr. Tjoe has been kind, descriptive, and educational for the kids. I have felt that the office is efficient and very thorough. They care about the health of my eyes and not going through the motion of yearly exams & whether or not we can pass them. The office is warm and inviting, they have various staff to support your experience, including the glasses technicians. Our kids have enjoyed every appointment and I am confident in how they are treating us. Dr. Tjoe is a wonderful optometrist and I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for one! The office is also centrally located and easy to find parking! read more

Time for an annual check up. I always get a notification via email as well as text when it's time. Making appointments are easy and the staff members are always pleasant and friendly to talk with. Everyone is very professional and extremely helpful. Winnie was great performing the pre check tests and Dr. Lee Kim was amazing as usual. Nancy helped out with choosing glasses and had great suggestions. It's always a pleasant visit. read more

I'm not used to having nails and accidentally scratched my eye when removing my contacts one evening lol After 36 hours it was getting worse and tearing severely, so I knew I had to get it checked out. Upon discovering the doc I went to previously are closed on Wednesdays -- I thankfully found this wonderful practice in nearby South Pas. I called around 11;30am same day fully prepared that they may not have availability on a moments notice, especially for a new patient. Mia was able to secure an appointment for a few hours later. Their office is in a very quaint building that has easy parking w/ many close conveniences that my husband took advantage of while waiting (USPS, Starbucks and Trader Joe's!). I was kindly greeted by their receptionist (sorry forgot her name). The intake by Noah was thoughtful and comprehensive. Dr Tsai was prompt, thorough and professional -- communicating clearly what the issue was and how it will be remedied in a way a normal person would understand! Unfortunately, my health and optical insurances were out of network but the out of pocket visit fee was reasonable. They were very forthright on this aspect prior to my appointment taking place which I appreciate. They offered to try it anyways but I declined since upfront was reasonable. Diagnosis was a small corneal ulcer! Could have got so much worse if I didn't go in when I did. Extremely grateful for the team here. Efficient, transparent, comfortable, knowledgeable, and caring. I guess I'm an established patient now! :) read more

Have been going to them for years and have always had excellent care from the doctors and staff. Would highly recommend them!

Be aware.... They billed my health insurance for my daughters glacoma test without first informing me. This test should have be included in her regular eye exam and billed to my eye insurance plan. No other optometrists in my past 30 years has ever done this. This caused me to pay my co-pay. All about profits here. read more

Excellent understanding skilled response in an urgent situation. Very grateful. I'm not even their regular client. Yet.

I took in a set of LA Eyeworks frames that had lost the screws attaching the temples. The staff were incredibly helpful and they solved the issue and the frames were better than new. Amazing service and professional expertise. Also a great space with a lot of quality frames to choose from. Highly recommend. read more

I've been coming to the South Pasadena Optometric Group for many years and it's been a great experience every time. Making an appointment is easy with their website. Once they receive your information, one of their receptionists will call you to finalize the details; the same applies if you text them. They also have a limited number of Saturday appointments available each month. They have a small parking area behind the building that can fill up if it gets busy; it's shared with other businesses in the area. If that happens, there's plenty of street parking available. There is a park nearby and this cool building is also a Pokémon Gym. Once you enter, check in up front and proceed to the waiting area. Or, if you'd like, you can head over to the left to check out the different frames they carry. Two gender neutral restrooms are located towards the right of the waiting area. They also have free WiFi for your convenience. Overall, the staff here are extremely friendly and helpful. Whether they're helping you find the right date/time for your appointment, or they're leading you to and from the different exam rooms, or even helping you look for glasses, I've had a pleasant experience each time. They do their best to offer high quality care and I thank them for that. read more

Walked in to try and schedule a consultation with a doctor for lenses. Told me that the person is out for lunch and would be back in 30 minutes. Came back an hour later and they said the doctor was running late and asked if I could wait. After waiting for another 30 minutes the receptionist asked if i could come back another day. Thanks for wasting my time. read more

Dr. Lee is a terrific optometrist! Not only is she technically skilled but she is also incredibly patient and meticulous. I truly wish I found Dr. Lee earlier. Before I came to South Pas I went to one optometrist who bungled my prescription (prescribed ~1.5 over what it should be) leaving me with eye strain and headaches and another who had to redo my prescription twice (due to dry eye, which Dr. Lee recognized during my exam). I have been seeing Dr. Lee for two years and each time my eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions came out perfectly. I also love the lenses and Oliver Peoples frames I purchased from the shop, and I'm pleased with the group's customer service. When I broke a temple to my glasses South Pas replaced the frames. Thanks again everyone! read more

Office was amazingly clean and organized. Dr. Cindy Wang professional and easy to communicate with. All new equipment and very professionally run team. Quite pleased after my last optometrist. Waiting for my glasses now. read more

I have been a customer for 2-3 years but won't be coming back. I had some minor issues in the past with replacing a defective pair of lenses which took like two month. During my last visit which consisted of a contact lense exam and fitting I was given a ridiculous bill despite having great insurance. The price for each box of lenses was out of this world and they chose to charge me first before charging the insurance without letting me in on the secret. I ended up getting contact lenses elsewhere for a lot less. The doctors are amazing but I don't appreciate the elevated prices as well as being accused of taking $10 drops without paying for them by one of the assistants. So I love the doctors but hate being charged a ridiculous amount for contact lenses and then eyeing me suspiciously. read more

This place has gone downhill after Dr Sang retired a few years ago. People are polite there. Getting in for an appointment is hard and they can't seem to get my contact lens replacement right. Been wearing contacts for almost 50 years but suddenly there's problems. I have a strong prescription and am trying to be patient while they figure it out...3 pairs have been ordered so far. Also, I have an appt this a.m. for trying on the 3rd pair but apparently they have not arrived yet...so I called to confirm and got a recording that the office is closed until noon for staff training. WTF? Glad I didn't drive over there for my appt. if their office is closed. Now I have to resched and wait weeks to get in again. Bottom line, it is taking MONTHS just to get new contacts. Regarding glasses, I'm hard to fit for glasses and will need to go elsewhere next time where's there's a gigantic selection. Not happy with my new glasses as they didn't have any that fit me very well. I would hesitate to recommend this place. If you have easy eye needs and it is close by, it is probably ok. I will update this review after my contacts finally get straightened out. Update #1: I have to wait only 2 more weeks to get in after today's cancellation debacle. Also, their message recording that said they will be closed today until noon was in error (it was an old message no one updated). More updates to come. Update #2: Someone called and got me in faster so I only waited 2 extra days, for which I'm grateful. My 3rd contacts were made back to the original size and now are ok. read more

I took my 4 year old to her first eye appointment with Dr. Wang recently. No one solicited this review, but I wanted to share how AMAZING her and her team were with my kid. They have excellent bedside manners, made my kid so comfortable and were very patient with all of our questions. I loved the experience so much that I made appointments for my partner and myself. Highly recommend l! read more

Dr. Lowe is wonderful. Highly recommend this group. Nice luxury brands for fashionable glasses. I get complimented constantly.

I have been a patient at South Pasadena Optometric Group for over two years. This year is my last and it is unfortunate as the doctors and mostly the assistants are kind. The problem I find is when dealing with specifics about insurance, payments and the general treatment and attitude from the front reception lady. In south Pasadena Optometric Group I found out that my best interest is not their best interest. That the contact lenses you get from them will be over priced for at least a 50% extra from the retail price. They said that I would have to pay extra for the contact lens exam which is true but what they wont say is that all I have to do is to bill my insurance for reimbursement. The reason for not telling is so that you buy the contact lenses from them and they will claim the exam from the insurance plus your contact lens allowance, in the end you will always owe them. But if you process the claim yourself and buy contact lenses somewhere else or online, your insurance will reimburse you in total or at least your contact lens eye exam and a yearly allowance for contact lenses in my case up to $180. and what does it mean to process the claim yourself it means you fax it thats all !!!!! and you pay nothing Be careful as SPOG will also claim part of your contact lens allowance without you even knowing, its uncomfortable when you cannot trust your doctors because they have their interests ahead from yours. read more

Dr. Wang is a great doctor and she's super chic! However the office staff is so unprofessional, petty, confused it's a shame because I'll never go back to see Dr. Wang. In a nutshell they overcharged my insurance company for frames and lenses I didn't receive and weren't helpful about correcting their errors. read more

My first eye exam ever and I know where I'll be going for life! I had gone with my friend to Linden in Pasadena numerous times and was planning to go there. Read the Yelp references to it as the DMV and 3.5 star reviews (which I understood) and looked on. Made an appt with Dr. Wang and was scheduled to go in two weeks. I was called to possibly come in earlier because of a cancellation which actually worked much better for me. The staff was terrific! I was a bit scared not knowing what to expect but I felt like I could trust the staff. Dr. Wang was so thorough, I can't even count how many exams she did. Although I didn't need glasses, the selection is a very nice one. I look forward to my appointment next year! read more

I've been seeing 1st Dr. Lowe and now Dr. Wang for over 15 years. Both Doctors are very professional, knowledgeable and take time explaining as well as interviewing so they have the best information to help me. The office staff is always polite, and professional - I've never had the experience of others noted here. And I've gotten glasses here and elsewhere; the experience with this office is always professional. It is THEIR JOB to offer all the options; lest they are berated for not doing so. This doesn't mean they are shoving sales down your throat; they are merely being thorough. I've said no to the options plenty of times and there was never any pushback. I am shocked at the poor reviews of other Yelpers; my experience has never been even close to anything they describe. read more

This was my first appointment at SPOG and I was thoroughly impressed. The staff was attentive, kind, and professional. Having worn eye glasses for most of my 40+ years I've had the opportunity to visit many optometrist offices and I can honestly say I've never been to one that ran this smoothly. From check in to preliminary eye check to seeing the doctor everything ran like a well oiled machine. Dr. Wang put me through the most comprehensive eye exam I have ever had. She did a great job at answering all my questions. In these days where it seems like appointment times get shorter and shorter and personal attention gets thrown out the window it was a pleasure not being rushed and having a Doctor that asked poignant and pertinent questions that let me know I was being heard. Dr Wang will be taking care of my eyes for years to come. read more

I had a very good experience at South Pasadena Opt. The staff was really nice and I did not have to wait more than a few minutes to be seen. I went here for the first time the other day to see Dr. Lowe and had a great experience! Dr. Lowe was very knowledgeable and kind, and she provided the most thorough eye exam I've ever had! Seriously, she tested my eye muscles, refraction, took a retina map...She has all of the most advanced equipment. She even gave me several samples of contact lenses to try and didn't pressure me at all to buy contacts from her office. Dr. Lowe answered my many questions about LASIK and offered to refer me to a well-respected doctor if I choose to undergo the procedure in the future. The staff were also extremely friendly. The woman at the front desk knew that I was self-pay (bummer, right?) but she double-checked my insurance (which doesn't cover vision) and gave me a bill at the end to submit to them for possible reimbursement. The assistant was great, too, and very clear about pricing. Overall, I would highly recommend this optometry group, particularly Dr. Lowe. It seems to me that she really cares about the well-being of her patients. read more

I come in every year with my family expecting great service and is met with overwhelming satisfaction!! My nephew is one year old now, and Dr Wang saw him for an infant exam. I learned a lot about how important it is for children to come in and see the doctor to establish their baseline examination. Pauleen worked hard to find me a flattering frame for my features. I was looking for a certain type of frame and she knew I loved color and she picked out the most gorgeous frame in one of my favorite colors! I get a lot of compliments too! As for the lenses, Dr Jensen (who was a part time doctor) actually helped me with my prescription. It is specificed just for my student lifestyle, which did help with the glare and eye fatigue. Staff is great, there are new staff members but they are still very knowledgable about their department. Each time I come in there's always a good morning that greets me. read more

I "see" Dr. Sang and she is a terrific optometrist. She is thorough, takes her time to explain procedures, and goes over all your options. The office staff is professional and helpful. There is easy, free parking and they have a nice selection of glasses. If you feel that the prices are too high, you can just get a prescription and take it wherever you like. read more

Dr. Sang and the staff are the best. Dr. Sang is thorough. The exam was carefully done and their years of experience shows - they know what is ok and what is not. The staff were pleasant, respectful and competent. They helped me find the right look for my needs - both for sunglasses and regular glasses. Also, I saw the staff provide good customer service to other patients, from the front desk to the exam rooms. I was going to an optometrist who is located closer to my job on the westside and what a mistake. The westsider tried to sell me products and had not done what I now know is a complete exam. South Pasadena Optometric Group is superb. read more

Awful experience from start to finish. Just three of the highlights: 1. They said the contact lens fitting would be double the price if I didn't buy their super expensive contact lenses. This is actually counter to the insurance policy. I confirmed with four different people at the insurance including two supervisors that this was an out and out lie on their part. 2. They refused to give me the prescription until I paid them the higher price, until I called them and spoke to someone in a supervisorial position that their policy was counter to the insurance, i.e., a lie. 3. The PRESCRIPTION WAS WAAAAAAAY OFF. I just had a spectacular experience with Eye Place Optometry in Pasadena today, and showed him the prescription. He simply scratched his head, not understanding why they would give me this prescription. I see perfectly now. Bottom line: the prescription was absolutely, unequivocally wrong. Staff on every level -- except the supervisory person I spoke to on the phone who was kind -- was NOT kind, very unprofessional and seemed overly taxed. read more

She's great. I have problems with contacts, and switched doctors. She worked with me for over 6 months to get it right. So patient, very friendly, looks for perfection. Me saying "its okay" is not good enough. Wendy in contacts is friendly too. They did mess up my order and forget to record one contact I had, but they worked it out in a friendly manner. By the way, Dr. Sang does both soft and hard contacts. No laser, but she has a source. Note: If you have a source, buy your contacts cheaper elsewhere. Doctor is great though. read more

I've been coming here for years and today was a total disappointment. In order for me to use my credit care to HELP ME PAY FOR MY GLASSES. Pasadena optometric group requires I spend a MINIMUM of $500 (my bill was $149) in order for me to use credit care as payment. Talk about not being there for their customer. Highly disappointed. I always post when I come across a good deal. Today was not the case. read more

I love Dr. Wang and her staff in the office! Dr. Wang is thorough and attentive in her examination - she found out in no time that my old optometrist had given me too strong a prescription in the past. Dr. Wang very patient and takes time to work with you. I went to South Pasadena from a referral from a cornea specialist at the USC Doheny Eye Center with the hope of avoiding surgery. I saw Dr. Sang and was extremely impressed by her knowledge. Time was taken to examine and image my eye to determine if a contact could be made to correct my problem. From the exam, it seems that this is a possibility. The entire staff was helpful, informed and friendly. I look forward to going back for my contact. It would be a great solution to a big problem read more

My eye doctor retired at the begining of this year and my wife started seeing Dr. Lowe last year and said that I should give her a try. Best move that I have made. She is beyond very through in the best way. I wear contact lenses and also use a CPAP machine which causes pretty bad dry eyes. She has been very helpful with how to solve the problem and I have less dry eyes and redness is vastly less. I really recommend that if you are not happy with your eye doctor or have to make a change as I did to try South Pasadena Optometric Group! read more

This was my favorite place I had been to in years , but the quality has changed over the last few years. All of the frames I've been buying have broken . I am not sure if that the quality the manufacturers are making are the reason. However, to my disappointment, their frames aren't getting any cheaper. So if the quality is reducing or declining, but the prices are increasing, well let's just say that I'm in the process of finding another place. It totally breaks my heart. But I have to do it.
