I honestly feel so fortunate to live walking distance from Kaffeeklatsch because it has become a staple in many of my study days! I'll begin with my appreciation for the ample available seating, the kid's play area that is cleverly placed in an area slightly away from the main seating area, and the delicious display of baked goods that is always enticing and hard to resist. As far as those baked goods and other treats? I've ordered: - Lake City Way chocolate chip cookie - Biscuit with butter and jam - Homemade granola bowl with yogurt - Soy lattes & soy chai tea lattes - Blueberry herbal teapot Let me start off with my favorite item here - those biscuits w/ butter and jam are absolutely heavenly. The mixture of the butter and their perfectly sweet jam is to die for, and the biscuit itself is excellently baked with little sugar flakes on top that make for a delicious blend of flavors. If there's anything you should order here, it's that warm biscuit with butter & jam. Just trust me on this one. Their Lake City Way chocolate chip cookie is also delicious, I would say that Kaffeeklatsch has one of my favorite chocolate chip cookies in the city, and it's always difficult to resist the temptation to not take one home! The lattes here are great, perfect temperature, strong coffee, no complaints from me. Their chai is a little more on the spicy side, which is not typically my favorite, but still enjoyable and I'd order again. Their blueberry tea is heavenly, and they have plenty of other tea options available. The only reason for a docked star is the spotty Wi-Fi because as I mentioned, I tend to come to study and I've found that I have to use my cell's personal hotspot most times that I come here. Sometimes the service is a hit or miss, some baristas are very friendly while others are a little more introverted, but I love the vibe of this café either way and am happy to support a local business in my neighborhood! read more

How have I not finished my review of Kaffeeklatsch sooner? I absolutely love this place. I'd stop by every few Friday mornings before I had a work meeting to get my coffee and pastries before heading in. The barista that was working always has so much energy in the morning and he's so nice that it always made my day. Their butter and jam biscuits are delicious! The pretzels, Blechkuchen and Lebkuchen during the holidays are are yummy as well. I've only gotten a plain latte and mocha so I can't speak on the drinks other than that but those were always great. There's free wifi if you're coming to study or work and a decent amount of seats. The back has a large parking lot and you can enter through the back door so you don't have to walk all the way around. This is my favorite coffee spot in all of Seattle. It's local, friendly, good food and doesn't feel "corporate" like many others. Hands down, a place you should check out. read more

I was having my car worked on and wanted to grab coffee to while I waited. Located this bakery a couple blocks away and thought I'd check it out. Quaint shop, friendly owner and staff. The owner likes to travel and is kind enough to share her stories. The baked goods are fresh and home made. The shop is busy, and filled with neighbors from the immediate area, so there is good conversation despite the construction on Lake City Way, even early on a Saturday morning. THE "GRIND" OF THE BUSINESS DAY I love how Kaffeeklatsch features the work of local, regional artisans and their coffee now is True North Coffee Roasters and it's worth applauding Annette and her staff for giving us the best opportunities of exploring some bold new coffee directions. THE SANDWICHES These are outstanding and totally reasonable at $6 a pop. I have become a big fan of both their Caprese Focaccia and their Turkey & Provoline. Hearty and very filling lunch-treats if you ask me. PASTRIES!!! But the pastries are what keep me coming back! Have you tried their Blechkruchen? The Blondie? The Lemon Poppy Loaf? Yum! Yum! And TRIPLE-YUM! The German bakery here is outstanding in it's output in both terms of variety - from sweets, breads, cakes, etc. - to the sheer volume. For all the coffee places in this town, there seem to be relatively few good old-fashioned coffee shops. That's fine--the subtle differences in the new places haven't trumped the old style. But it's still a refreshing change of pace to find a joint that emphasizes an interesting menu to go along with good coffee. Kaffeeklatsch fills that niche. It's in some new construction along LCW, just north of 125th, with entrances on both sides. The signage is just a vinyl banner on either side, so look sharp about it if it's your first visit. The interior space feels like new construction, but they're filling it up quickly and making it their own. They've really decorated for Christmas, with two splashy big gingerbread houses on the pickup counter. There's a cold case with sandwiches off to your right, and a pastry case at the order counter. They really crank out the breads, cookies, cakes, pastries, and other baked delights. There are just a ton of different things to try, and they all seem to be as good as you can reasonably hope for these things to be. Between us, we had a sandwich, a breakfast biscuit thing, a cookie, and a blondie. They were all amazing, especially the baked goods--perfect consistency, no dampness or dryness lingering around. They have nailed the science of baking and embraced the artistry of it at the same time. There are other great bakers in this town of course, but this one stands out above 85th, for sure. This is a modest, low-key place located basically in the middle of nowhere between some bland city and another blander city but by some divine miracle, rush hour traffic happens to be crazy ridiculous and typically bumper-to-bumper. How? WHERE ARE YOU GUYS EVEN GOING. So what they offer of the German variety is extremely good, both bread and pastries and whatnot. I highly recommend the bienenstich and their multi-grain breads. The bienenstich is a mildly sweet pastry with custard and toasted almonds sprinkled on top. It's not too dense nor buttery. I try not to eat sweet breads because I gotta keep this booty in check, so it's the perfect, cake-like dessert. However, for such an undersaturated market that is metaphorically pregnant with possibilities, I'm irrationally irritated by the fact that they have shelves dedicated to substandard American fare like chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, and banana bread. This feels like a last resort thing, like the baker(s) just said, "fuck it" as they ran out of ideas of what to make. Like Google doesn't exist. Now I'm sure it's good. I'm sure they eat chocolate chip cookies and banana bread in Germany during high noon, and likely craft it better than we can, but I'm at a place called "Kaffeeklatsch." I'm here at this establishment to get away from all of that Girl Scout bullshit. Give me something like a Berlinstreuselwertzen or Chocokipferlnich. Are those even real? I have stopped in here several times as it is convenient to my workplace. Breakfast sammys are DELICIOUS. Thr biscuits are flaky and moist, the egg thankfully not overcooked, with the bacon mixed in and the cheese is just enough to add a lovely bite without overwhelming the mouth. There's a veggie option, but I haven't tried it yet. Pastries are pretty darn delightful. Simple and not too sweet, which is a nice change from the cloying, over-wrought pastries you find in a lot of bakeries these days (hello red-velevt, salted caramel and bacon cupcake with a cream cheese ganache and sriracha foam). I was a bit disappointed in the Russian tea cakes, they were dry the day that I had them. The coffee. Oh, how I wanted to love it. I wanted this to be my go-to coffee place, the place I brought new people to, a place where I could get my breakfast sammy and a hearty cuppa to start my day, but, alas! Twas not to be. Let me preface this by saying I am not a coffee aficionado by any means, but I know what I like, and this coffee is not it. I've tried two kinds of the drip and a couple of the espresso drinks and I just haven't been impressed. Was so excited to try based on the reviews. Staff was very nice, but was super disappointed in the pastries. Had cinnamon rolls and lemon poppyseed bread. The sweet rolls were very dry and pretty flavorless. I was surprised. They tasted like day old, and that they had run out of cinnamon sugar. No rich sugary goodness in the folds like hidden treasure. I like the dough, but they just seemed incomplete somehow. And also, they were poorly boxed with the lid edge in my poppyseed bread frosting, which was a bummer. It might have been an off day, and obviously first world problems, but was still bummed. It's far from my house anyway, so not likely to return. read more

I've visited Kaffeeklatsch about a dozen times now so I feel confident in my 5 stars. Always a great cup of coffee. Delicious and interesting baked goods. I LOVE that there is parking out front so I can slip in on my route to downtown Seattle and quickly grab a few things to enjoy on my commute. I LOVE that there is a giant lot out back to park when I want to hang out awhile. The staff is ALWAYS incredibly friendly and take the time to chat with me as they work. My favorites so far are the bar type pastry that has rhubarb and raspberries on it (pardon me, I don't remember it's German name) and the Lake City Way cookie... chocolate chip cookie with pretzel salt. I've also enjoyed many of their breads, their biscuit breakfast sandwiches... some with jam, others with egg & bacon. I'd love to try a pretzel dog sometime soon after reading a few reviews on them. So happy to visit this place AND I absolutely love the little signs they have that you can put at your table... (see picture)... One of the coolest coffee shops I have visited in the area. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was a display case full of delicious looking German pasteries I have never seen before. Between our group, we tried three different things from the case. All three were delicious, just the right texture and not overly sweet. Their coffee is decent and they have a rack of fresh bread to purchase and take home. I love that the whole place is designed to get people to stay, hang out and hopefully connect with others. There is a small kids area to one corner, a bookcase full of books and board games and tons of information about community events and resources. I wish I lived closer to it, I would be a regular. Even though I live 20 minutes a away, it's still special enough for me to keep going back every few weeks. read more

I ordered a sheet cake of "Bienenstich" for my German mom's birthday last year. She loved it, especially since it tasted just like real German cake to her. Although it was pricey, the workers were very nice, and the cake was ready to go (except it needed to be taken off the baking tray first) when I stopped by to pick it up. We will definitely go here to get our German cake fix when we have our money saved up. ;). The pretzels were very tasty, too, and my kids devoted them! One lovely day we found ourselves stuck in traffic in the Lake City neighbourhood. My husband noticed their sign and we decided to check them out. We parked in the back of the shop and he headed in. He emerged with two paper bags and a slice of bread in his hand. He handed me the bag to inhale deeply. The aroma was as delicious as the bread slice that I chewed thoughtfully on the drive home! Since our first visit, we have been back several times for bread and to meet folks for coffee. The place is packed on the weekends so be patient if you need a table, or grab your stuff to go and head home to revel in your carby purchases. For lunch one day, I stopped by and grabbed one of their yummy pretzel dogs plus a chocolate chip cookie with pretzel salt. Paired with a salad, it was a delicious meal! They sell savoury and sweet treats, coffee drinks, and a bevy of bread loaves. The employees are mostly friendly. Only once did I get a less-than-cheerful girl at the counter but it was slammed inside and I think they were short-staffed so I shrugged it off. Fortunately, when Kaffeeklatsch posted on their Instagram that they made Donauwelle (we LOVE chocolate and cherries), we ended up with a better option than we had to begin with. They were extremely accommodating with our order size, and it all turned out scrumptious. This wasn't what I was expecting. It feels like a metro version of Germany mashed with modern-industrial. There is a great kids area by the front of the shop, but it seems this location doesn't fit what this place is. Regardless the ladies running the show were kind, efficient, and awesome. Not too chatty, but not robots either. The baked goods are gorgeous and tasty, but a bit on the pricey side. Well worth it if you're after something specific. This place was on my list to try for a long time. It often gets overlooked when I am on my way to other businesses in the area. I haven't tried coffee there and I think that may have been a mistake. I've heard good things but have cut my caffeine intake. I'll definitely try it next time. I ordered a pretzel and a biscuit. Both were ridiculously hard, even after warming them up. I had high hopes for the pretzel. It had fantastic color and a good amount of salt. I took a bite of it and the resistance it provided was unbelievable. I found myself staring at it because what I was seeing and what I was tasting was completely disconnected. It tasted like a pretzel but the texture was unpleasant. I put it in the microwave, hoping that heating it up would help. It didn't. The biscuit appeared to be treated with an egg wash, which I'm not used to seeing on a biscuit. I got excited and thought, this has to be good. The biscuit was about as hard as the pretzel. The solid nature of the biscuit made it very unpleasant to eat. Both packages sat on top of my counter, and I secretly hoped that someone in my house would eat them. No takers; not even my brother, who pretty much eats anything. He said he tried it and wouldn't eat it. That's saying a lot. I think perhaps I tried the wrong items so I'm willing to give this place a second chance. Wow, what a great find! Stopped in here because we had seen the tiny door in the back (parking lot behing BECU) and were curious to see what it was. Walked in and I was super suprised, it's a nice space, clean, and is spacious without being huge. This place feels like it should belong on Cap hill or in the U district. Tried out the lemon shortbread, tea cookie, blechkuchen (the almond flavor, there was also poppy and rhubard), and the blondie. DELICIOUS pastries! Nothing was overly sweet, everything was fresh (there's an actual kitchen there), and the blechkuchen and tea cookie were my favorites. Also got an iced vanilla latte (everything is double :-)) and wow! THE COFFEE IS REALLY GOOD! I haven't had coffee like this in quite a while. It was smooth, flavorful, and rich. They carry seattle coffee works coffee. Awesome coffee, awesome pastries, and they have sandwiches too. I could totally see myself studying here and this is definitely the new go to spot for coffee. Prices were good too ($11 for everything) and the lady was very nice and provided descriptions all the pastries. They are also at the Lake City Thursday farmer's market. Of the bakeries around Seattle, Kaffeeklatsch is the one that I find the most difficult to spell and pronounce correctly. It is pronounced kaf-fee-klatsch BTW. This is a German term for a coffee social gathering place. As such, this establishment offers coffee, but also German baked goods which was the reason for my visit. Kaffeeklatsch represents the only bakery offering German baked goods in Seattle. There are a handful down south, but that means driving all the way to Lakewood at the very least. While there are German baked goods offered, not all of the offerings are of this origin. Cookies, cinnamon rolls and scones are on the menu along with some sandwiches. They share space with German items that I dare not try to spell or pronounce. I decided to pick out German choices specifically. Tried the pretzel ($1.75), a bienenstich ($2.85) and a loaf of hefezopf ($5). The pretzel was soft, but really salty. Did not like it so much. The other two items were much better. The bienenstich is a bar shaped pastry with a vanilla custard filling and almonds on top which is moist and delicious. The hefezopf is a brioche like loaf that is shaped like challah as in braided together. It is great to eat on its own or covered with a favorite jam for breakfast. I like Kaffeeklatsch, but I would like to see a few other German bakery goods on the menu. When I compare it to Vosen's in SLC, I see that there is room to add new things. Particularly in the bread category. Where is the pumpernickel? And adding Berliner donuts could not hurt. This is a coffee place after all. Although I have difficulty pronouncing the name, I am glad to finally see a German bakery in Seattle proper. read more

I am a newcomer to Lake City and was worried that I would not be able to find fresh roasted coffee beans here since there is not a roaster in the neighborhood. Thankfully, Kaffeeklatsch did not disappoint. While they do not roast the beans in house themselves, they sell beans from a Seattle roaster. True North Coffee Roasters make a special Lake City blend specifically for Kaffeeklatsch. My bag was packaged only 4 days earlier! I also picked up a cinnamon roll while I was there. Amazing. I'm excited for Kaffeeklatsch to be a regular stop for me when I need more beans. I'll probably convince myself to get a pastry again as well. read more

I live in Milwaukee and I'm not entirely sure how we don't have a place like this here, but I really wish that we did. We stayed in the neighborhood, so we Yelped a coffee shop and ended up here, so thanks for that! It seemed like the staff knew most everyone who came in. You have a choice of all kinds of german pastries and breads. Between the two of us we had a biscuit sandwich, a biscuit with jam and banana bread and all were stunning. If I could have those biscuits at every meal, I would not get sick of them. Our coffees came out quickly and were perfect. Basically, I wish this was my corner bakery.
