I revisited again after a few years. The menu has changed quite a bit throughout the years, but it is still very pricey. This time I went with my husband and we ordered a few small plates and an espresso martini. The espresso martini was pretty standard, but we've definitely had better. The shishito peppers were okay, but I feel like I've gotten more in the past with an order. The karaage was highly disappointing, the sauce was overwhelming and made the fried chicken coating slightly soggy. I think a dry seasoning would've paired better. The beef cheek had nice presentation, but didn't really impress with the flavor; there's better places for yakitori. The otoro we got was decent. The ribs were my favorite of the night with good sauce and they fell off the bone. And then my real favorite of the night was the ube cheesecake, so delicious and flavorful! Came here on a Friday night and it was busy! The location is unassuming, right off of 50. There's not a lot of parking so you may need to plan for that. You can park behind the building but it was unclear to me if it was a tow a way zone or not. For Kabooki Sushi, the ambiance was low light and romantic (I needed the little lamp light). The service was on point (water glasses filled and plates cleared immediately). The food was delicious (gone too fast!). The two rolls I tried were delicious. The LC had beef on top and was savory. The Hawaii XO was refreshing. The apps were good portions for the price point. They also had some chef specials that were not so budget friendly lol. I've had almost everything on the menu but some dishes I gravitate towards are the tuna truffle cold tasting dish, miso soup, scallop nigiri, tuna nigiri, all the rolls are fabulous, the udon noodles, mushroom dumplings, and nigiri flight of 10 picked from the chef. I'm usually getting an assortment of those every time I come. The fish here is such a high grade of fish compared to other spots in town. Everything tastes so fresh and of great quality. We hadn't been to Kabooki in years!! So glad we decided to do a date night here again, we were way overdue. The resturant got a facelift since then. It looked very modern and sleek. Our server was wonderful and the best part was obviously, the food! We started with drinks and I loved my Lychee Princess. Then we got an order of the garlic teriyaki edamame for the table, which was tasty. I love a little flair to my edamame. Next, I did the tuna nigiri sampler. This came with a lean, mixed and full fatty piece of tuna. Each bite was better than the last. I also ordered a separate piece of yellowtail (one of my favorites). The nigiri here is solid. But my favorite thing here were the maki rolls. I tried the hokkaido roll, which was crab, avocado, topped with raw scallops and black garlic. The food is where this place really shines. The sushi tasted incredibly fresh, with clean flavors and thoughtful combinations. The brussel sprouts with peach balsamic glaze is a must. The shishito pepper were also good (although could've been blistered more). The LV roll with wagyu was a standout and felt indulgent in the best way. We visited Kabooki as part of Magical dining, but I'd encourage anyone hoping to try this place out to NOT wait and visit as soon as you can! The food there was very nicely presented, and each of the sushi rolls, appetizers, entrees, and desserts carried very unique flavors. I've had some great sushi in the past, and I would put Kabooki's offerings in that list, if not just above my list of greats. The service was attentive. The servers weren't in your way or constantly in your face, but you knew they were nearby if you needed help. The ambience: dimly lit, not too loud at all, and it felt like a very posh dining establishment. Great date night place. They do have a complimentary valet, however our valet was expecting a tip. Parking is very difficult without using the valet, so that's the only part I didn't like about the entire experience. Had the best birthday dinner here, maybe the best dining experience of my life. My husband took me for my 27th and we did the magical dining menu. He asked for a private corner booth and even though it was taken at first we only waited about 10 minutes. While waiting I ordered the "Don't Make Me Blush" cocktail and it completely blew me away. It tasted exactly like biting into a fresh yuzu. No ice, just perfectly chilled, and beautifully presented with four drops of yuzu oil. Easily the best cocktail I've ever had. For starters we had the Tiger Cream and Hamachi Carpaccio. Both were excellent but the Tiger Cream with yuzu crème fraîche was unreal. The fish tasted impossibly fresh. For entrées we tried every roll offered which included the Tom Yum, Ghost, Hawaiian x.o, and Booki Booki. Each one was melt in your mouth perfection. The Tom Yum roll was my favorite but honestly every roll was amazing. Even their spicy mayo was the best I have ever had. For dessert my husband ordered the mochi trio while I went with the Ube cheesecake. That cheesecake was next level. I had been thinking about going to Kabooki for a long time and just waiting till the right moment. The restaurant was beautifully decorated on the inside with midcentury modern decor. Our server was helpful and kind, but it was a busy night so we had time to look over all the menu options as the staff caught up and we sipped on some sparkling water. Together my husband and I ordered tiger cream, wagyu carpaccio, shishito peppers, sticky ribs, Hawaii XO, ghost roll, and tom yum roll. For dessert we tried the matcha tiramisu and C4. The food was amazing and we especially loved the wagyu carpaccio, tiger cream, shishito peppers, Hawaii XO, and sticky ribs. The sushi, carpaccio, and salmon were so incredibly fresh. Peppers perfectly blistered in an amazing brothy sauce. My husband loved the rolls with char on top but I thought it was a little overpowering. Bite30 is always fun, but there were some wins and some misses here. First off, we had to ask for the bite30 menu, and heard other have to request it throughout our stay, so it seemed like they werent marketing it at all. When we received it, the font was Sooo tiny, we almost had to use our phones and we both have 20/20 vision. Im sure anyone older or with vision imparements would have to use their phones to magnify it. We ordered various appetizers and entries for our meals and the servings were so tiny, I was concerned I was dropping $100 and leaving hungry, but it ended up being just the right amount of food. The show stopper was the dessert though. We ordered the carrot cake and the ube cheesecake (upcharge), both were spectacular. I've always wanted to try Kabooki Sushi and when I saw it was participating with Bite30 this year, I figured it was a perfect time to go. Kabooki can get packed pretty fast so I would advise setting a reservation just to be safe. Once we were seated we asked for the Bite30 menu with prefixed pricing much similar to that of magical dining. Just be aware that they upcharge for anything that's not on the bite30 menu so buyer beware. For appetizers we ordered the Maguro Truffle and Brussels Sprouts, which were recommended by the waitress. Both appetizers were fresh and delicious and came to our table pretty fast. We also ordered 2 drinks. The drinks were good but I felt for the price they were quite small. For our entrees I ordered 2 rolls from the bite30 menu, one roll had steak on top and I believe the other roll had fried shrimp in it. For the second entree it was the Berkwood St. Louis Sticky Ribs. The rolls were light, tasty, and some of the freshest sushi rolls I've ever had. The ribs were big, tender, and flavorful. The bite30 menu came with a lot of food and everything tasted well made with quality ingredients. For dessert we had carrot cake and ube cheesecake. The carrot cake was delicious, not overly sweet, and the perfect portion. I never had anything ube but ube cheesecake was amazing, creamy, flavorful, and also not overly sweet. This review is for Kabooki Sushi's original location, East Colonial, in Northeast Orlando. It opened in April 2013. During out visit at night, the dining room and bar had a somewhat trendy vibe. "Contemporary Japanese cuisine" is how the business is marketed, so it's got more Asian fusion and Westernized elements, as opposed to a traditional Japanese restaurant. The interior design is modern and stylish. You can dress up or down. I saw groups dressed both ways. This spot is ideal for a nice, romantic date night thanks to the dim ambient lighting. We had a party of five, sat at one of the round tables, and celebrated our friend's birthday. In addition to nigiri, sashimi, and rolls, Kabooki offers omakase and moriwase (chef's choice meals; not necessarily sushi). They have a decent sushi selection and also offer several non-sushi Japanese dishes like tempura, karaage (Japanese deep-fried chicken), and udon noodles. They have a full bar with cocktails and a wide variety of sake. I had a couple sips and thought it was great. It was refreshing and tasty. My wife liked the presentation. The drink was served in a beer mug. Our friend got a Japanese Highball, which was served in a beer mug as well. It looked cool with long, clear, cocktail ice. She enjoyed her cocktail too. It's made with Suntory Whisky Toki. In general, the food both looked and tasted terrific. Every dish was plated carefully and presented beautifully. The Nabe (Japanese-style hot pot) was finished at the table. Our table ordered two of those. Two servers came at the same time to crack eggs and mix all the ingredients together. The dish was very flavorful and satisfying, rich and full of umami. The crispy bits of rice on the surface of the hot pot reminded me of eating Korean stone bowl mixed rice (bibimbap); similar. The Bluefin Tasting was excellent. We got three kinds of tuna sashimi: (1) akami, which is cut from the fish's upper back and spine and (2 and 3) chutoro and otoro, which are medium fatty and most fatty tuna belly, respectively. All slices were fresh, thick cut, and tasted amazing. The chutoro and otoro melted in our mouths, the otoro especially. Both of the Cold Tastings, the Hamachi Carpaccio and the Leche de Tigre, were delicious. Both dishes were flavorful, but not overpowering. Again, they were plated carefully with a fine attention to detail. My wife and I love mushrooms, which is why we ordered the One Up. While it was good, it wasn't memorable. Been to Kabooki many times now and it is very good and the team here is well managed. The sushi is a clear highlight for me. Whichever one you order is a delicious bite. Their spicy tuna and booki booki roll are both very well balanced and not too spicy. The money bags were very good and the texture was just perfect. The truffle pate sauce and the mushroom crema stood out strongly in this dish. The brussels sprouts were very much so brussels sprouts and were well charred and served in a bowl for the table. Good flavor but nothing extra added to the dish or sprouts. The coconut Udon Truffle pasta was absolutely a show stealer tonight. First time we ever ordered it and we dug in and finished every last bite. The dish does not scream coconut but instead uses it well to tone down the truffle flavor enough so nothing is overwhelming. We ended up ordering a second because of how good it was. The drinks here were also very good. The espresso martini and the lychee princess were both two of our favorites from this visit. Lychee princess was not overly sweet and had a good hint of lychee. The atmosphere is always great, not overly crowded and not too loud. Many guests seem to talk at a normal volume level and you can enjoy your dishes while chatting with those at your table without too much trouble hearing. My partner and I sat at the bar and decided to order a couple of rolls and the Pork Nabe and the flavors for us ideally weren't ultimately there. The service was quick but the waiters themselves were not attentive and to be honest kind of dismissive that we were even there entirely. As a lover of sushi, the presentation was nice but it kind of tasted a bit bland and lacked depth in the flavor profile of each roll as every single one tasted exactly the same but all were curated of different seafoods. Perfectly crafted, balanced, and beautiful. The bartenders are artists in their own right. I could've sipped on those all night. As for the food... chef's kiss. The sushi was incredibly fresh--every bite delicate and flavorful. And if sushi isn't your thing, the non-sushi options are just as impressive. Let me start off by saying I was skeptical of Kabooki for a long time because I'd heard many mixed reviews from people I know. After visiting for my second time last night, I have to admit it's worth all the hype. For drinks, my boyfriend did the Hitachino Nest beer which was their rotating beer which was described to us as a "Japanese Blue Moon." My bf loved it!! I did the "Summer in a Bottle" Rose blend. It was on the dry side but still so crisp and refreshing, literally summer in a bottle which is perfect because it's always summer in Florida. For our Magical Dining apps we did the Hamachi Carpaccio and we did order the Wagyu Carpaccio, but they were out so they let us upgrade to the Maguro Truffle without the upcharge. We enjoyed both but the Hamachi was definitely our favorite. As extra apps we did the Shishito Peppers and the Rock Shrimp. The shishito peppers were amazing and the sauce they were in was incredible. As for the rock shrimp......I have no words. Literally just do yourself a favor, order them, and thank me later. For our magical dining entrees we did 1 of each Makimono on the menu (Ghost, Booki Booki, Hawaii X.O, & Tom Yum.) Don't let the simplicity of these rolls fool you, they were all insanely good and so fresh. Our favorite was between the Hawaii X.O and the Ghost. For dessert we got the C4 & the Matcha Tiramisu. They algo gave us the Carrot Cake as an extra since we put that it was our anniversary on the reservation. The C4 was our favorite as we are chocolate lovers, the carrot cake was our 2nd fav and the matcha tiramisu definitely disappointed us, neither of us thought it was good.
