First time at Umi in Winter Park and I was l impressed especially by all the awards on the wall. The vibe was great and the sushi absolutely lived up to the hype. Our waitress, Jennifer, was amazing super sweet &, attentive. I had the Paradise Roll, which was incredible, and my friend ordered the Forest Roll (vegan), which was also delicious. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. It was semi busy but will be probably waited no more than 15 minutes but the service was still great. If you're trying to impress your date, take her to Umi. I recently went to Umi for a Valentine's Day date. Umi is located on Park Ave in Winter Park. So if you're a long time Central Florida resident, then you know that street is very walkable and super cute with the park nearby but also high end. I mean it has a Williams Sonoma, like casually. The restaurant is located at 525 S Park Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789. My boyfriend did get the reservation I think about a month in advance. It very much surprised me as one of my goals is to try new places in Orlando, and this was one that he had been to that I hadn't been to. So A++++ for him. So the restaurant had a super nice atmosphere but was very booked out. There were heart balloons at every table. So the decor was absolutely in the room with us lol. The service was very nice and I feel that they were very attentive and almost felt like maybe they had been trained to provide a certain feeling to customers. I'm sure they had been. Getting into the food, I'm not sure what the bill was. I wasn't allowed to look at it. I will say that I'm sure it was at least $100. I did leave feeling very full, but I do feel like that's a lot of money for me to feel full. We ordered the Misoyaki Butterfish, which was a Miso-glazed Chilean sea bass on a plate with ginger-sake eggplant, butter garlic sautéed spinach, and Japanese potato purée. It's a large plate and we did share, but it was not the whole fish. I think if I pay $45 for a fish, I want the whole fish. My rating is 8.5/10. It was incredibly delicious, but I want the rest of my fish. We also got the Kanpungi, which was fried Korean style boneless chicken bites smothered in a spicy soy sauce glaze. My rating of this is 9/10. I think it was great and was very filling for an appetizer. We accidentally ran into our friends at the restaurant, who had sent us a bottle of sake. The sake was great. We sent back a non-alcoholic cocktail they had and a sake based cocktail. I couldn't tell you what it tasted like, but the service presented and delivered back and forth between our table in a manner I can only describe as carrier pigeon-esque. They did great. I love fanfare. I think for a first date, this is a great place to bring someone you have been talking to for a little bit and want to show that you have a good stable job in this economy and like foods outside of American food. I wasn't on a first date as a note lol. My overall rating is 7.5/10. I mean I think everything was great, but that price stabbed me a little. My boyfriend did suggest to me that it would have been a higher rating if we had gotten one of the rolls. So that's on me. It is in a great walkable neighborhood though. I really enjoyed my experience at umi! It is located in the heart of Winter Park in a beautiful location. My group sat outside to enjoy the lovely weather and ambiance. Our waiter was still extremely attentive to us, even though we were outside. The foods and drinks were great. I ordered a lychee martini and loved how it tasted. We ordered spicy kimchi edamame as an appetizer. My group split 4 rolls and were wowed by each one. We ordered the volcano, 70% roll, double seafood roll with no cream cheese, and a Rollins roll. We came in for dinner and had a good experience. We were able to snag the last inside table. Service was nice, just a bit slow. To drink, I got the hot green tea. They serve it in a nice kettle and traditional tea cup. For our entree, we got the edamame. They were hot and fresh with the perfect amount of sea salt. To eat, I enjoyed the crunchy hako salmon roll. I did order the tuna version, but I didn't feel like sending it back. Despite getting the wrong fish, it was absolutely delicious! I love Umi. It is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Winter Park. I went with a friend on Friday night and I'm glad I made a reservation because it was packed. Our reservation was for outdoor seating and it was perfect because we had gorgeous weather that night. We started off with some wine before ordering our sushi rolls. My friend drove from Daytona to meet me for lunch. She had been wanted to try this restaurant. We had the option to sit inside or at the tables outside. We tried Umi during a stroll around Winter Park. My stepson loves Asian cuisine so he chose Umi. I wasn't very hungry so I just got the gyoza appetizer and a house salad. I had a very delightful experience here with a friend for dinner. This place is tucked into Park Ave and has been around for a long time. Every time I come to eat here, I kick myself for not eating here more often! The service was really great and attentive. We ordered some appetizers, sake, ramen and sushi rolls. All the food was deeeeelightful! My favorite thing was the yellowtail chimichurri. It was so fresh and light and I could've had multiple plates of it! The sake the server recommended was crisp and not overpowering. The rolls were good but not as good as the yellowtail appetizer. We had ordered 3 different rolls - the rice to fish ratio was definitely more on the rice side. They originally brought us the wrong order, so we waited a bit for our 3 roll. Location is great with outdoor and indoor seating. Frequently visited by the students from Rollins college from across the street. We like the menu and variety of dishes for vegetarian and sushi options. Service is very good and prompt. Drink options are very good. You can also get free dessert for writing a Google review. They have to confirm so the review process is a lot biased. I love their soba noodles and soft fried tofu. Sushi rolls are great too. I did take out for this Japanese restaurant and I liked everything I ordered. It is pricey for the quantity and ingredients included. Service and ambiance wise- I could not rate them but the kitchen replaced some items, also the delivery was late and I can't tell which one was the culprit. It was outside the promised window (15 minutes). I ordered tuna Kobachi and had masago and avocado added to it, which were not included. It was accompanied by scallions and it said it came with a spicy Kobachi sauce, pickles and daikon, but mine only came with ginger and wasabi, and an order of seasoned, crispy rice crackers. I ordered steamed dumplings and they were 5 small, made to order served on a bed of iceberg lettuce and a julienne of carrots. Overall, I thought the taste was okay, I was disappointed with the choice of ingredients, the Kobachi's underwhelming taste and replacement of of ingredients; I was not expecting that. Wowee!!! The general manager Alex and Susie certainly made us feel like VIP! We can't wait to be back in area to return for another experience. I brought my sister for her birthday, and they did not disappoint. The rolls were so fresh. We had tuna by tuna roll, Mango tango roll, Sealantro roll and Alex's creation the paradise roll! All of them were so flavorful and plentiful. Alex had such great recommendations, and friend that frequents this place weekly also advised us on his favorites. We sat outside with the beautiful weather, and just enjoyed ourselves. The saki suggestion Alex gave was superb! He overheard that is was her birthday, and was so kind to bring a dessert creation that he made for us. It was a Korean fried donut with chocolate, marshmallow, whip cream and ice cream. I had come to this restaurant a long time ago and finally tried it again. The service here was really great. The restaurant needs a bit of an update but the plating of the food is amazing. We started with some Toro Nigiri. It was buttery and smooth. We also got the Yellowtail Chimichurri, this was really good! I loved the spiciness and freshness of this dish. I got the Godzilla Roll which was okay, I don't think I would get it again. It lacked texture and crunch. I came here on a Wednesdays night for my boyfriend's birthday. Our server was extremely helpful in recommending some dishes for us to try. We each got a miso soups, shared the tuna tataki & the gyozas. For rolls I got the paradise roll (on the specials menu) which was amazing! It had a crab salad and smoked salmon on top and had a cool smoky presentation. My boyfriend got the crunchy hako (which was slightly spicy) and he got the honey Tabasco aioli on the side which was really good! My one complaint would be that we ordered Korean chicken wings but the kitchen was a little behind, but it was a really busy Wednesday so we didn't mind we were so full by the end! The service was pretty good, but the food is mediocre at best. Please note that the ramen here is more Korean-style and hence made with the curly noodles. I ordered mushroom broth ramen, which tasted quite saccharine and over-salted at the same time. The pan seared gyoza came with a couple of dumplings whose wraps got nicked off from the pan. Came to Umi for magical dining. Restaurant was pretty full as it was a Saturday dinner. The restaurant has an ample amount of outdoor seating and indoor seating. We ordered and were helped pretty quickly, but our courses came out in random orders and not all together. Some got our entrees first and then some didn't get their starter or entree until after others had already been eating both their courses. The food was okay. The miso soup was tasty, the firefly roll was my starter and while it does mention the spicy elements, it was a bit spicier than I had anticipated but was overall still good. We were quite disappointed with the magical dinning menu at Umi. It's my second time here and I couldn't remember my 1st experience so I came back to try it again and will probably be my last. Make sure to reserve if you're going out on a Saturday night, we made one but still waited 15 mins before we were seated. There are cute shops near by to check out while you wait. The magical dinning menu is more americanized and not authentic Japanese food, not worth the $40 for the quality of food. We started off with the miso soup and the salad. We had our entree before our appetizer for some reason. The Miso Mushroom Udon wasn't bad, it is better than any other dish we had but sauce felt too heavy for us. The Yakisoba Noodles with Pork Belly was a definite no for us. It came out cold and tasted nothing special besides noddles with soy sauce. Barely even had any pork belly, came in tiny cubes. For our appetizer, we had the Firefly and Bishoujo roll. The rolls were on the simple side and nothing too unique about it. We made a mistake and not try their popular one, Crunchy Hako As for desserts, we had the tiramisu and the mango dessert. The mango one was quite enjoyable and refreshing. However, the tiramisu was not real tiramisu, it came out frozen as if it was an ice cream cake. We took one bite and that was it. As for the service, everyone there is friendly and nice. The owner even came out and check out on everyone. Our server, on the other hand, were barley present and not checking up on us. We felt ignore because we mainly were just waiting on food or being helped. He never even passed by our table for us to call on him. We waited 15 minutes and had to reach out to other servers to help us get to go boxes and after 10 minutes of getting the bill, we had to reach out again to other server again to get our payment process.
