Sushi Kawa - Winter Park Sushi Kawa is a small sushi spot tucked next to Crunch Fitness in Winter Park. The space itself is simple and cozy, with minimal décor and soft lights that create a quiet, relaxed environment. It feels like a very local neighborhood sushi place. From what I could see, there were only two chefs and one server running the place, but the staff was friendly and attentive. We started with miso soup, which unfortunately came out barely lukewarm -- a little disappointing since a hot bowl of miso is usually such a comforting start. The seaweed salad was your typical version you'd expect at most sushi spots. I was a bit sad to see they didn't offer cucumber salad, which is usually one of my favorites to pair with sushi. One appetizer that really stood out was the Tuna Crackers. This dish includes spicy tuna served on crispy fried shrimp chips topped with avocado slices, eel sauce, garlic sauce, masago, and scallions. It was surprisingly delicious with a great crunch and a nice mix of textures and flavors. The Hamachi carpaccio was decent, though it lacked the brightness and flavor I usually expect from this dish. Not bad, just not something I'd rush to order again. The Tuna Tataki, on the other hand, was excellent. The tuna was paired with ponzu sauce, sesame oil, scallions, and masago. Simple but very flavorful -- definitely one of the highlights of the meal. For sushi rolls, we tried the Dark Side of the Rainbow. It had a bit more kick than expected, almost like a surprise heat factor. Unfortunately, the fish didn't taste as fresh as I would've liked, and there was a bit too much sauce on top for my preference. The baked mussels were different from the typical version you see at many sushi restaurants. Instead of a creamy topping baked directly on the shell, they actually chopped and sautéed imitation crab and then placed it back on the shell. Interesting concept, but not quite what I was anticipating. As someone who almost always orders eel at sushi restaurants, I was looking forward to it here, but the eel sauce leaned a little too sweet for my taste. Overall, Sushi Kawa offers decent pricing for basic sushi quality. While the fish may not be the freshest of the fresh, it's still a solid neighborhood spot that's worth trying if you're in the area and looking for something casual and convenient.

I've never been, but I'm craving sushi and do t feel like leaving the house this evening. Ordered delivery on Uber eats. The prices online were similar to the prices on the dine in menu (with only about a .50-$1 up charge per item). Not bad! I was excited to receive my Ginger salad, Miso soup and Mango roll. The pictures online made it look delicious! The salad was basic, but the dressing was chunky and flavorful. The miso soup was standard to what you get at most Japanese restaurants. The mango roll was the star of the meal! It was delicious! Crispy tempura shrimp in a roll topped with fresh and delicious mango! I'll have to go to the location some day and try more of the menu!

Great place. Small, clean, good music and volume. Service was great, quick water refills and brought our food out fast. Great deal and portion size for the lunch deal. Not pictured is the ginger salad (or soup) that comes with the lunch special. ~$16.50 (incl taxes) each. And of course the sushi was great!

Winter Park-A tiny little sushi cafe hidden away in a strip mall. Food was really good, but service was slow for only 2 tables with people. We were there just after 12:30 for lunch. Started out with the tempura shrimp appetizer. The ponzu/dipping sauce didn't have much flavor. The tempura batter was very thin, just like I like it! It needed some salt, but was crispy. Veggies were a good combo of onion, bell pepper, sweet potato, and broccoli. We had the Moonshine Roll & the Godzilla Roll. The kiwi on the Moonshine Roll was a great touch. The Godzilla Roll was a little crunchy from a small amount of tempura batter that it had been dipped in and (possibly?) fried. It didn't mention that on the menu, so I was pleasantly surprised by the "outside crunch" of the pieces. I would have liked a little bit more flavor from the wasabi sauce & the garlic sauce. Both were a little bland. I feel like that roll needed a little bit of punch to it. It was supposed to have Stiracha on it, but I am not able to eat Sriracha. Other than that, both rolls were pretty legit, filling wise. Last but not least was the fried bananas and ice cream dessert. The tempura coating on the banana lacked flavor. We had to ask for extra chocolate sauce too. Overall, it was just OK. We'd definitely return to try some other items on the menu.

1st visit and really great! Had the Hamachi Carpaccio as an app and we both had the 2 roll lunch special with salad. Excellent service, well timed and efficient and competitive priced. Impressive menu. Will definitely return.

A+ service and food. I was not cooking today ao I found Sushi Kawa, which was close to my casa and drove down around 630p. There was one other person dining in. Made my order of a can of Sprite ($3), a volcano roll and a moonlight sonata ($14 each). The rolls were tasty and filled me up. The ambiance music was a nice soft jazz when really helped chill me out.

We've been several times now for both lunch (specials even on weekends!) and dinner and everything has been good. Nice sized menu with dishes for even non-sushi fans. Some of our favorites include the jalapeño crab appetizer and the Wicked Ahi Roll. The space is chill and clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It's nicely priced for the quality, middle of the line - not fancy/pricey but not so cheap you question if the fish is fresh. Only thing I had that wasn't outstanding was their summer rolls which were way too noodley and the peanut sauce was too watery and didn't have much flavor. But given it's a sushi restaurant and not Vietnamese or Thai it's still pretty decent. Pro tip - get a side of garlic sauce (their version of white/yumyum sauce) because it's very addictive and goes great on anything fried.

    Assorted nigiri
    Laura D.

This was way below the expectations based on the reviews by others but there was no question. The mackerel came last and we realized it was still not fully thawed - yuck. The nigiri often fell off the rice when picked up. I am GF and they could only bring me a small dish of Tamari from the back. I should have insisted to see the bottle to be sure. The rolls were quite small for the price. The server was inexperienced and could not answer questions about the menu. It's ok to be learning but that should trigger getting answers instead of giving excuses. We were the only lunch diners for most of our visit yet felt a bit rushed by the service.

The service is great in this little strip mall Sushi Kawa. I enjoyed the steamed goyza also salmon and tuna salad and the oldie but goodie, Volcano roll. The wasabi was on the underwhelming side, and the dumplings were not as hot (temperature-wise). Other than that, I think it is a quaint little restaurant, clean and tidy, plenty of parking

We walked in and were immediately greeted and we were told to sit wherever we'd like. The service was amazing! They helped us pick out fried rolls for my boyfriend and he picked the tempura roll and Godzilla rolls. I had ordered the ginger salad and destiny roll. We loved how their rolls are deep fried, very crunchy not too much tempura batter which some other places fried rolls are thick full of battery and this one was light and enjoyable. All rolls were flavorful, I really loved their eel on the destiny roll because it had so much freshness to it. Also love the ginger salad perfect amount of sauce you can actually taste and see the ginger chunks.

We stopped by Sushi Kawa after reading good reviews in a foodie forum. This place definitely did not disappoint. We started with a few apps and everything was excellent. The tuna toast was my absolute favorite. I ordered a Japanese Lychee soda and it was delicious, not too sweet. The rolls were so tasty. The fish was fresh and tasty. We ended with a fried cheesecake for dessert. We will definitely be back.

    Cute decor

This place is delicious and has the best sushi! Highlyyyy recommend! I love mango on my sushi and it was one of the best mango sushi's I've ever had.

So if you're a long time Central Florida resident, then you know that street is very walkable and super cute with the park nearby but also high end. I mean it has a Williams Sonoma, like casually. The restaurant is located at 525 S Park Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789. My boyfriend did get the reservation I think about a month in advance. It very much surprised me as one of my goals is to try new places in Orlando, and this was one that he had been to that I hadn't been to. So A++++ for him. So the restaurant had a super nice atmosphere but was very booked out. There were heart balloons at every table. So the decor was absolutely in the room with us lol. The service was very nice and I feel that they were very attentive and almost felt like maybe they had been trained to provide a certain feeling to customers. I'm sure they had been. Getting into the food, I'm not sure what the bill was. I wasn't allowed to look at it. I will say that I'm sure it was at least $100. I did leave feeling very full, but I do feel like that's a lot of money for me to feel full. We ordered the Misoyaki Butterfish, which was a Miso-glazed Chilean sea bass on a plate with ginger-sake eggplant, butter garlic sautéed spinach, and Japanese potato purée. It's a large plate and we did share, but it was not the whole fish. I think if I pay $45 for a fish, I want the whole fish. My rating is 8.5/10. It was incredibly delicious, but I want the rest of my fish. We also got the Kanpungi, which was fried Korean style boneless chicken bites smothered in a spicy soy sauce glaze. My rating of this is 9/10. I think it was great and was very filling for an appetizer. We accidentally ran into our friends at the restaurant, who had sent us a bottle of sake. The sake was great. We sent back a non-alcoholic cocktail they had and a sake based cocktail. I couldn't tell you what it tasted like, but the service presented and delivered back and forth between our table in a manner I can only describe as carrier pigeon-esque. They did great. I love fanfare. I think for a first date, this is a great place to bring someone you have been talking to for a little bit and want to show that you have a good stable job in this economy and like foods outside of American food. I wasn't on a first date as a note lol. My overall rating is 7.5/10. I mean I think everything was great, but that price stabbed me a little. My boyfriend did suggest to me that it would have been a higher rating if we had gotten one of the rolls. So that's on me. It is in a great walkable neighborhood though. So you are getting charged for ambiance.

The karaage was highly disappointing, the sauce was overwhelming and made the fried chicken coating slightly soggy. I think a dry seasoning would've paired better. The beef cheek had nice presentation, but didn't really impress with the flavor; there's better places for yakitori. The otoro we got was decent.
