A group of us went here after Megacon this weekend and it was so delicious. When we arrived it was pretty busy, but they gave us some soup and a Holiday roll while we waited to order. The holiday roll and soup were so good! Perfect little appetizers to have before the meal. I ordered the BBQ Short rib bento box and it was delicious. It came with a lot of food and it wasn't that expensive, I had enough leftover for lunch the next day! Will definitely be back to try some other menu items. read more

I came here for dinner with family and was very impressed by the sushi, the service and the price! For an appetizer, I ordered the crab rangoon and it's crazy to say but.. it was the best crab rangoon I've ever had, anywhere! The sushi rolls were quite good to. Shoutout to the chef, who clearly takes pride in his work. They even gave complimentary miso soups to the entire table! I love how they do use any msg at all and offered a ton of different sauces, all complimentary. I'll definitely come back here the next time I'm in town, 1,000%! read more

Super plates, generous portions. Started with a complimentary appetizer of a small krab roll deep fried with sauce. I think it's called Holiday. I prefer crab, but Krab probably made from whitefish was tasty. No msg, all of it was good. Then a complimentary miso soup flavored deliciously with fried onion; I loved that, clever addition. First off, the fish cakes (nigiri) were really good and the only reason why I would go back. The fish was fresh and tasty, something that is rare in Orlando. The ginger was fresh and I would only recommend this place for the nigiri. The tempura was a bit too greasy and lacked the refinement of good Japanese restaurants. Everything else was kind of OK. This restaurant is definitely a takeout place, I may sit down by myself but it's not a place to socialize. This place is really a 3 star restaurant, but I have to praise the sushi. read more

The server working today was amazing and so kind! It's a small cozy restaurant. I ordered the chicken teriyaki combo which came with fried rice, soup, salad, veggies, and lo mein. Overall it's a great amount of food for the price but I found it to be really bland somehow. The chicken didn't absorb any flavors and the sauce itself was bland in my opinion as well. The app we got was called Holiday and it was like a tempura crab with this delicious sweet sauce and creamy sauce. Then we got a bowl of the clear mushroom and onion soup. Both were really good but I felt bad not finishing my soup. It was only because it was 110 degrees outside. We ordered another app which was the crab rangoon and they were a lot bigger than I was expecting. Lots of cream cheese and bits of crab. Perfecly fried and nice and crispy. For rolls we got the Fancy Dragon Roll and Volcano Roll. The presentation was so fun and it came with a fun fairy light! The rolls were a good portion and everything tasted fresh. I always order through uber eats and this is my go to place if I want sushi. The quality is always great and delicious. I usually get the rainbow raw role and even with delivery it's always fresh. Sushi 99 is located on Avalon Park Boulevard and is extremely convenient for the residents of both Waterford Lakes and Avalon Park. It is located in the same strip mall as the Tijuana Flats. As I have said, it is extremely controversial the residents of both Waterford Lakes and Avalon Park. The food itself is good, though a bit overpriced. Though I will say that I find this to be the case with most Japanese restaurants. They will fill you up with rice, noodles and vegetables, but give a little meat, especially when considering the price. I had the filet mignon and lobster, which was basically twenty-seven or twenty-eight dollars and it consisted of half a lobster tail and a few pieces of steak. For the same price, I could of has a superior steak at a medium level steakhouse. Again, it is not that it is bad, but I just feel that for the money that I spent, I could of had a superior meal elsewhere. But again, that just seems to be my general consensus of Japanese food. As for the ambiance, it is a small spot and is a bit spartan. It is clean and pleasant enough, just do not expect anything fancy. If you like Japanese food, I would recommend a visit to Sushi 99. I guess I would give it four stars, though I feel it just barely made four stars. read more

This place has remained consistent over the years and I appreciate them for that. If you're a Sushi snob then this may not be the place for you to come. They keep it simple which is how I like it! The restaurant is always clean. Kudos to them for adhering to very high standards during the pandemic. You have to wear a mask to enter and all employees are masked. You do have to ask for sauces such as soy sauce and the yum yum sauce as they no longer have them on the tables. I usually order sushi but my son loves their hibachi meals which are pretty tasty. At lunch you automatically get soup and salad with your meals. Dinner you get only soup unless you order an entree. They also give you part of a holiday roll which is a tempura fried krab and cream cheese roll served with eel sauce and yum yum sauce. It's so good! Their service is friendly. They welcome and seat you quickly. The restaurant is small, clean and is pretty well decorated. As far as ambiance, it's pretty quiet and has a relaxed, casual atmosphere . They have a chef bar and sit-down areas . I always order sashimi sushi rolls. I really like it. Their portions are excellent and they have a nice selection of appetizers and teppanyaki. I've been here a total of two times and this place never fails to amaze me. The phoenix roll with the yum yum sauce was easily a 10/10. The dynamite roll was also really good as well as their hibachi. The inside has great vibes, definitely an amazing date spot and the staff is very nice and friendly. Smallest order. Ordered a specialty roll and a regular roll to go. It was for 2 ppl, and they seemed to squish it all in one tiny container. I feel as the specialty roll should have at least been pretty presented, at least it's own presentation. I also got a side of fried rice, the side portion container was about half full. The last time I ate there I made the mistake on ordering take out and it was a disaster. My food was horrible and my roll has some sanitary issues. I called the restaurant and explained the situation and the manager was an absolute jerk to me. To him; there was no way that the restaurant was in the wrong so he decided it to take it up a notch and asked me to drive back there and show her my rolls so he can see what I was seeing to then consider my exchange. My husband treated me to a surprise lunch date at Sushi 99. My hubby and I ordered their scallop and combination lunch specials. The price for lunch is great. My husband thought the meat portion was smaller than what he received at similar places at lunch. I thought the same but it was plenty of food altogether. Been here a few times already and it's consistently good. I'd say it's our go-to sushi place only because it's close. They always start out by bringing some type of warm krab roll and miso soup which is a great way to get started while deciding what to order. All of the rolls have been typically good and the chefs find a way to build them all onto a platter of some sort. Last trip, we did the tuna tataki a krab salad and both were pretty tasty. We also had some miscellaneous rolls and sashimi, but I don't recall for sure which ones. I will say I have tried the hibachi dinner and chicken/beef on a stick and have not been impressed. To me not having sauce with sushi, is like getting pasta with no sauce. I won't eat it then. Sushi 99 is a good spot if you want a quick sushi fix. Is it my first choice? Probably not but it's decently priced and they are very friendly. For what you pay, it's a pretty good deal. They give you mushrooms soup and ginger salad with your orders. The soup was great but the salad was pretty watery. It prevents the ginger from sticking to the actual salad, collects at the bottom of the bowl and it makes the overall salad a tad bland. I got the Sunomono to start and the same can be said about this dish. It was basically a diakon salad with various cuts of fish topped with roe. Im pretty sure the water came from the shredded diakon but overall it ended up making the ponzu sauce watery and bland. They were nice enough to give us a couple of their complimentary rolls which we did enjoy. They gave us two of their house rolls which were just tempura battered crab sticks covered in eel sauce. The other one seemed like half a jalapeño stuffed with crab fried with tempura batter with eel sauce too. I ended up getting the chirashi bowl and my date got a couple of rolls and various pieces of sashimi. The presentations were fun with little lights here and there. The cuts of fish which were pretty thick which was a definite plus and there was plenty of fish and rice. Overall, it was pretty good but I was just turned off by how watery it was. I'd like to see more from Sushi 99 in the future since they are good people. read more
