Did the magical dining for $40. It was really good! For appetizers, I got the kinilaw. I'm Filipino so I would say this is definitely not your native traditional kinilaw like I had growing up, but it was still really good! I think this was made to be liked but all people and not just Filipinos. I feel the traditional kinilaw may be an acquired taste. Nonetheless I still enjoyed the sourness of the sauce combined with the coconut milk. The fish was fresh. The noodles was good, and had good flavor. Almost reminded me of pad Thai but not quite. Serving is really small tho. For dessert, the mochi cake was amazing! Serving size is crazy small tho. 2 little cubes as shown in pics. The ice cream has good flavor (I think it was black sesame flavor?) I like that it wasn't too sweet. I would definitely be back. We came here one night on a whim. We had been to Soseki a while ago, loved it, and wanted to try this spin-off. It's on the Michelin Guide, so our expectations were elevated. And it did not disappoint! Ambiance was very nice. A cozy, tucked away little room that felt like a Japanese speakeasy. Tables, high tops, and bar seating. Luckily, we got seated at the bar, so we could see a lot of food and drink prep. Very cool stuff. It made our service more prompt, as well. Our server was one of the main bartenders, so she had a perfect working knowledge of all the drinks she poured us. Very nice. As for the food, it was all absolutely banging. We started off with the Caviar Donut (crème fraiche, onion jam, caviar). This is a one-biter, so you have to order one per person. This little guy is a donut hole-sized thing with an explosion of crème fraiche inside. The salty pops from the caviar set it off perfectly and will have the table looking at each other all wide eyes in pleasant surprise. Next came the Chili Garlic Noodles (local rock shrimp, chili soy, bok choy). This was the dish of the night for me. Amazing noodles coated in a chili soy sauce that has a lingering heat that's not too intense. It's quite lovely. Accompanied by perfectly cooked rock shrimp, which are just slightly sweet, so this is a perfect dish. I want it again. I also had some amazingly crispy wings with a togarashi lemon slice, and a creamy mushroom dish that was heavenly. I can't find them on the menu right now, but that's ok, I like a rotating menu. Keeps things fresh. We finished off the mean with Mochi Cake (chocolate cremeaux, black garlic miso crumble). Soft, ooey gooey mochi cake was so good, and an insane texture. The warm cake paired with the cold, chocolate ice cream with the interesting umami of the black garlic, just so lovely. Perfect way to end the meal. Overall, this stuff was definitely Soseki quality. This is such a hidden gem in the Winter Park area! Located right next to Soseki, this sushi and sake bar is a bit hidden. The inside is intimate and vibey, and the service was incredible. Our server was attentive and so funny, and the bartender was extremely knowledgeable about different sakes, even brining over a few of her select choices. We started with oysters, and I don't even like oysters that much, but these were delicious. We also got the patatas bravas and the squash salad, both amazing. As a sibling spot to Soseki, Bar Kada, now on the Michelin guide, it's a welcome addition and an absolute must for sake lovers. You'll find a rotating selection of small plates and premium picks from overseas, all elevated by their house ponzu sauce. The space is small and intimate and the service is outstanding. Every employee was genuinely kind, attentive, and truly made the experience feel personal from start to finish. As we weren't very hungry on the occasion, we ended up ordering the 5-pieced dry-aged sashimi sampler and their Asian version of "patatas bravas" only, both delicious. The sashimi, which one would probably also find at Soseki, was phenomenal. Their sake selection is impressive, and one of the staff members personally came to our table to serve and share the history behind it. It felt like a mini TED Talk and I loved it! We came tonight for the first time for magical dining. The entrance is in the back and easy to miss as it has a small interior. The staff was friendly and made great recommendations. The saki cocktails were tasty and had a beautiful presentation. Unfortunately, they were out of one of the appetizers, one of the entrees, and two of th desserts for magical dining but they would not provide substitutes. I visited Bar Kada on a Wednesday night around 6:30. We had a reservation, and we were seated immediately, but we were waiting on one more so we enjoyed some of their puffed chickpea snacks. Unfortunately, they were already out of their buck a shuck oysters, but we did order a dozen of their regular oysters. I ordered the patatas bravas, pork skewers, and a bluefin toro set. The patatas bravas were really interesting, and I really liked them. The pork skewers were amazing, I could absolutely live on them. The bluefin set was . . . Fine. The fish was good quality, but none of the components had different seasoning so it was extremely one note. I'm used to seito's sets where each type of sushi has a different seasoning or sauce or component on it, so I was a little disappointed. I also got a sake flight which was awesome. Our bartender selected the sakes based on what food I was getting throughout the meal which was amazing. The last thing to come out was the oysters. They were great, but west coast oysters are delicate in flavor and the ponzu was just a little much for me. I would've loved some fresh wasabi or something else with it. For dessert I got the popcorn ice cream. I'm allergic to blueberries, so they served it with a peach consume which was really nice of them to prepare for me! The portion was depressingly small though. The ice cream was amazing, but it was half melted by the time I started eating it'd and there was too much pound cake for it. I wish I'd had a lot more ice cream to be honest. I liked Bar Kada enough, but I was unimpressed overall. It felt overpriced, and I don't think that the servings are big enough. The service was also a bit of a let down. Our server put in 2 of the potatoes and forgot the oysters, so we didn't get them until the end and you really want those before anything else. It was weird to follow all that warm food with something cold and refreshing and briny right before dessert. She also seemed overwhelmed in general, which I totally understand. Such a great experience and I can't wait to come back to try more. I had wanted to come in on a Wednesday because I saw from their website that they have dollar oysters on Wed. until they run out. I called for clarification and the gentleman on the phone was very helpful and knowledgeable and also told me they do the same deal on Sundays. Me and a group of friends (5 of us) came in on Sunday to enjoy their special. From looking at their menu I noticed that they also do happy hour from 5-6. The only food item on the happy hour menu is the oysters. On any other day during happy hour the oysters are $2 though, not $1. Our waiter Eric was very knowledgeable and helpful in deciding what to order. We tasted a lot of menu items and the cavier donuts were a table fav! I do think that the Bluefin torro set was way over priced for what you got. It was $52 for 8 pieces, when the smaller sets of tuna maki come with 4 pieces and are only $15. There was a little mixup with our receipts at checkout, but Renae sorted it for us so that was much appreciated. Chef Mike stopped by our table a couple of times to talk to us and ask about our food. Our server, Emika, was super gracious and explained everything we ordered in great detail. Daniel, working behind the bar, was lively and mixed phenomenal drinks. I tried the crispy chicken wings, mushrooms, wagyu beef tartare, and eggplant dishes. Each dish's flavors were unique and specific, and everything had a very high flavor profile with a perfect, thoughtful balance. As I said earlier, I don't tend to like super fancy food. I like things that are down-to-earth and super delicious, and this place really takes that concept to heart. Came excited to check out Bar Kada, which is a 30-seat sake lounge with food from the team behind Soseki! I ordered the Tamago Sarada, Sashimi, Wagyu Tartare, Tuna Au Poivre, Dumpling, A5 Wagyu Spinelis, and Vietnamese Wings! The good: The ambiance, service, and food were amazing, and definitely lived up to the reputation stemmed from Soseki. My favorite dishes of the evening were the Tamago Sarada, Dumpling, and A5 Wagyu Spinelis. But honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the selections since all of the dishes were tasteful and beautifully presented. The Tamago Sarada was absolutely delicious, with the cold tamago flavor mixed with a potato-like texture. The Sashimi tasted absolutely fresh, and the sauce tasted absolutely amazing. The Wagyu Tartare has a strong sesame flavor to it, but goes really well with the sourdough bread. The Tuna Au Poivre is extremely tender, and it has bold flavors. The Dumpling was definitely one of the top favorites, where it was creamy and soft, and delicious. The A5 Wagyu Spinelis is not listed on the menu, but the server brought it up as tonight's special. It requires a 3-ounce minimum order, which costs $80. This literally melts in your mouth as soon as you try to take a bite! Last, but not least, the Vietnamese Wings were fried to perfection with a delicious crispy crunch in each bite, and the fish sauce and garlic is very potent in this flavor! WOW. First things first, Daniel at the bar made our dinner so want to give him a shoutout. His knowledge and passion for the art of cocktails and drinks was incredible! Bar Kada - we were invited to their grand opening, and ribbon cutting (too early to get there). I had been there before and it was exceptional. I posted a review previously. We had all the A listers there - Chef Mike, his wife / co-owner, Jill and sommelier extraordinaire, Ben. It was one of the places my husband wanted to try for his birthday (month) and he loved it as much as I did. They even wrote him a lovely birthday card from the entire staff. If you haven't been there, it's a romantic, dim lit chic environment - elevated casual. It has exceptional high end service just like Soseki next door, but for a fraction of the price. This month they have their happy hour on a few bites, sake flights (one listed but they will do another for you), beers and wine. And, Bite 30!! It takes a little strategizing but you can really max out eating most the entire menu. We saved $100 with Bite 30 and HH. We opted for all of the above after we had our fabulous complimentary grand opening champagne - the real stuff, not just bubbly wine lol. We had 2 Bite 30 meals and some additional apps to cover the entire menu - some HH, some not. They have a secret waygu upgrade for one of the apps - do that for the love of God!!! Wow. Here's what we had: Apps: Vietnamese wings - dang, these are good. They are competing heavily with my fave, Domu, for top spot. They are so flavorful without being too heavy. Sashimi - we got 2 orders of this because there was NO way I was sharing. This is my favorite dish on their menu. So incredibly fresh and I absolutely love the light marinade / sauce. Wagyu Tartare - I was so glad they did an upgrade for this because is a pricier dish that I didn't want to take a chance on as I've had unfavorable tartar in the past. It comes with toast which I liked a lot but my husband just dug in, no bread needed. It was so tender and flavorful. We would absolutely get this again. What they consider entrees: Mushrooms - I love these and took half home (yum) because my husband isn't a fan of mushrooms. They are savory with explosive flavor. I am going to chop them up with my eggs tomorrow. Mussels - these were AMAZING. The sauce was so good and the baby bread crumbs. Yum. Dumplings - these were much better than the first time I had them. I think something was missing in the toppings previously. This time, I completely understand why these are wildly popular. Really delicious. And, it feels like you are eating slightly healthier with all the veggie goodness. Desserts: There are small but tasty delights. The ice cream was recommended and it was nice but we loved the coconut pudding. And, funny thing, we are not coconut fans. It had several flavors all built into this small dish. My boyfriend specifically booked this restaurant for our anniversary because I don't drink and they offer a non-alcoholic version of their drink flights. We both got the $85 5-course tasting menu and every dish was phenomenal! He got the sake flight while I had mocktails/non-alcoholic drinks. I usually feel left out when there are drink pairings with the food, but the staff at Bar Kada made sure I was included! My mocktails were so thoughtfully created and DELICIOUS! My boyfriend liked my drinks more than his sake! It was priced the same as the sake flight ($75) which I thought was pretty steep considering it's non-alcoholic, but I'd probably do it again. We were concerned about not being full since the portions were small and it being only 5 dishes, but the drinks package definitely helped get us there. Our server explained each dish and drink with so much detail and really told a whole story behind our meal. It gave us an even deeper appreciation for the food. Exciting new gem to hit the Orlando food scene! Went to the soft opening to get a first look and experience the delicious menu items at Bar Kada. We were able to try most of the items on the menu and let me say all were super delicious and delightful especially the sashimi, Vietnamese wings, wagyu beef and mushrooms, so good we had to order another round of the wagyu and mushrooms (the sauce is to die for). Our server was Renee and she was immaculate and so knowledgeable of all the items especially when it came down to picking the right sake to pair with the dishes. Parking is in the same area as Soseki which is towards the rear of the building and so is the main entrance. Even though I just had a wonderful dinner at a Japanese bar last week, I thought about visiting this bar for Bite 30. I am extremely happy that I did. I made a reservation on a Saturday for 8pm. I arrived a bit early and was immediately greeted by a hostess at the entrance. She did tell me that the table wasn't ready yet and may take some time. I wasn't in a rush, so I sat in a chair in the entrance area while they handed me the menu in advance. The lobby area had lounge music, which I enjoyed and relaxed. Since I waited a bit longer than expected, they provided me a complimentary champagne to enjoy. It was high quality as it was smooth and bubbly. Around 8:20, I was seated at the bar area which I requested. The bartender greeted me quickly and handed me the sake menu. He allowed me to sample the amabuki sake (13 dollars), which had a fruity taste, strong, and was not too dry. I really enjoyed it so I ordered that as my drink. I went with the Bite 30 menu (35 dollars for 3 courses). I did the sashimi appetizer, which was amberjack fish. When it came, it was dressed table side with leche de tigre. The amberjack was melt in your mouth fresh, and flavors from the sauce were amazing with the citrus and milk notes. The daikon and chili added even more flavor. Sadly they ran out of mussels for the entree, and the only other options were vegetarian. On the regular menu, I was surprised that the dumplings were priced higher than the mussels. When it came, I can understand why. The flavors added so well from the corn, peas, and scallions inside the dumpling, and the green sauce was such a great accomplishment. There were four dumplings total, which was enough to enjoy. For dessert, I chose the recommended coconut pudding, which had the perfect flavor with fresh mango and lychees. The white chocolate ganache had the perfect sweetness. Just like the other dishes, the flavors matched so well. All the dishes I had really challenged my taste buds with the complexity of flavors in an amazing way. The food is definitely Michelin star or AAA 4 diamond quality . The service matched the great food. There was great pride and enthusiasm in presenting the food. The ingredients for each dish were explained. The servers were very helpful in suggesting each dish, and answered any question that was asked. The atmosphere was a bit upscale, so I am glad I wore a collar shirt instead of just a t-shirt. The music is upscale lounge music that you find in higher end hotels. Parking was available and free in the back. Being from the same building and owners of Soseki, I should have known to expect high quality and upscale cuisine. This was not only the best Japanese bar restaurant I have been to, but even one the best overall bar restaurants as well. While the portions were small, the flavors were huge. An exceptional- and accessible- Japanese tapas-style meal. I brought my 9 year old burgeoning foodie to Bar Kada. We were dressed very casually and were cautious if we'd be seated. We were pleasantly surprised when we were greeted as if we were old friends. The bartender made my son an exceptional mocktail to match my cocktails. Every single dish was delicious- but the sashimi and korean wings were standouts. At the end of our dinner, it started pouring; the staff walked us to my vehicle holding umbrellas over our head. Love the small bites, cocktails, and ambiance here! A much more casual sake bar attached to Soseki, this place still offers the quality you'd expect to find at the neighboring omakase. My favorites here include the miatake mushrooms, wings, beef tartare, and (seasonal) corn dumplings, although I love returning to try their newer additions. Took the wifey here for her belated Bday Dinner during their soft opening last week and it was amazing. When we arrived we were greeted by the very nice hostess who gave us a little info about the restaurant and quickly took us to our table. The dining room is small (think it says 30 seats) so I do suggest getting a reservation. We were greeted by our waitress (I think her name was Cora) who brought us delicious homemade fried garbanzo beans and cold oshibori towels. If you have a chance to request her do it she was amazing, very knowledgeable and informative about all the sake and the menu and super attentive. We started with sake and were able to sample a few different types to see which ones we would like (we got 2 different kinds that were very good). The menu isn't that big so we picked a few things to share and try out: Sashimi, Wagyu Tartar, Dumpling, Mushroom, the Vietnamese Wings. Each dish came out paced out so you got to enjoy them and when they came the server explained how the dish was prepared and suggested how to enjoy them. Every dish was delicious, full of flavor, beautifully presented, and amazing. The dumplings were probably our favorite dish, the wings had a different unique flavor and nice and crunchy, the tartare had so much flavor, the sashimi was yummy wish there was more slices, and mushrooms had a yummy sauce and were nice a meaty. I definitely recommend ordering all of them they are totally worth trying. We will most definitely be back we enjoyed it so much. The only thing I do recommend is that don't come there starving unless you plan on ordering a bunch of dishes (they're small plates) but then again the food and drinks are totally worth it, read more
