Oh it's not "Just Breakfast," it's probably one of the oldest breakfast joints in San Jose. I say this because it's located in the middle of Monterey Road where it is surrounded by many industrial companies and old motels. Parking is a little tight but there is street parking upfront. The interior reminds me of a random diner my father took us to. It's got a few tables, chairs, a breakfast bar, and family/friends photos from what looks to be the 80's/90's. Service was fast and friendly. I really like diners that serve coffee when greeted, it's the "home-y" feeling that gets to me. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and my S/O ordered biscuits and gravy with two pancakes. My Eggs Benedict was delicious and had so much hollandaise sauce on top (Yum!) The egg was poached so nicely that it melted and soaked onto my huge biscuit. My S/O enjoyed his biscuits and gravy as well, even I had to take a bite off it. Pancakes were nice, fluffy, and came with two heaping spoons of all that buttery goodness. It's a solid 3.5 stars for me. The food was great although the smoke in the restaurant made my eyes watery. The ventilation is questionable. I can literally see smoke inside the restaurant lol. We were given our check after eating. My S/O wasn't sure if our waitress was going to come by and pick up the card or if we were suppose to walk up to the cash register. I would definitely come back though. I've been looking for a place that I can call good or even my go to spot. 100 percent I can say that Just Breakfasts the place. I had always just drove down Monterey and seen this place. Winding to myself if this place was any good. The service is great I always get a table no problems. Customer service is even better. I came here today for breakfast, just to try it out and compare it to Southern Kitchen. There is no comparison, Southern Kitchen wins hands down. I ordered the Rancher's Burrito which is a burrito filled with eggs, cheese, hash browns, ham, sausage, and linguisa. For what you pay, it is a good sized burrito, well ...two mini burritos for $6.99. But, I have had breakfast burritos like this that were way better elsewhere. I can't get enough of the sausage here. The homemade sausage patty with biscuits and gravy breakfast were spectacular! I love how the sausage had a nice crispy texture on the outside and was so juicy and flavorful on the inside. The biscuit was aight, but the gravy with the bits of sausage helped elevate the biscuit and gravy to the next level. I finally got around to trying Just Breakfast the other morning. It's exactly as I expected a breakfast joint to be. The walls were covered with picture frames filled with customers, roosters, and wallpaper. I was told to sit anywhere, so I grabbed a menu and plopped down in a lopsided booth. I had the corned beef hash with sunny side up eggs, sourdough toast, and I got hash browns instead of peaches. My corned beef hash had a nice crispy crust and the eggs were adequately runny. The hash browns could've been browned more, but they were okay. If you want a hearty breakfast, Just Breakfast provides exactly that. No fuss, no mess, well, maybe a little mess. Anyway, just say No to the Chili Verde! I bought it for a late brunch on a Monday (12/3)to go. Price is 13.50 and that's without the dollar-something tax. You can get a chili verde burrito with whole, sliced avocados, and sour cream, spanish rice, AND salsa for less than $10 at almost any taco truck or taqueria along Monterey Hwy. Okay, but it is supposed to be Just Breakfast, a still old-school, no fuss breakfast joint. The food came out soon enough. The ever-familiar waitress that has been there for years very politely informed me that their Spicey Salsa had "run" out...That should have been the sign of what was to come. So I grab the to go plastic bag and head off to my car to go back to work. When I opened it at my desk I found they put it in a to-go box with no separators. Basically, A HUGE MESS! Chili verde, meat, BEANS, all mixed together into a now stew with eggs that looked like Garfield eyes floating in the middle. A splish-splashy, dark brown, dotted with little white chili seeds mess! No toast, just a side paper bag with 3 corn tortillas to slop it up. Chili Verde is one of those sides that sits in a pot. Mine had definitely been sitting. The meat was carmelized(hard) on some pieces. The sauce was spicey but not completely satisfying(flavorful) because it was old. And yes, on top of all that, it gave me the Montezuma's. I've been here a number of times. It's only because my friends (for some reason) love this place. It's the typical greasy-spoon fare. Bacon, eggs, pancakes..the coffee isn't the greatest (kinda burnt), but it wakes you up. Parking is tough during prime time. It's right next to a body shop (chop-shop?), so chances are you'll have to parallel park on the side street between a burned-out Ford pickup truck and a 90's Honda Civic with all four wheels missing. The building is....very yellow. I guess that's supposed to help wake you up in the morning? It looks like it's ready to fall down, quite frankly... Staff is pretty courteous. The inside of the building is decorated with pictures of its staff and customers which is pretty cool. Gives you a pretty friendly feel of the place. The seating is this place that has booths on the sides that can fit up to 4 people. The middle area is surrounded by smaller tables that can sit anywhere between 2-8 people. If you're by yourself you can always hop on over to the bar style area and enjoy your breakfast. First glance at the breakfast menu is very overwhelming for me. But hey you look at this and you have tons of options to choose from. So I hope you can make a good choice. You can choose from a classic breakfast, some house specials, sandwiches, French toast, country style meals, and fresh Baja Mexico style. Most orders come with a side of toast and hash brown but they offer plenty of substitutions. If meat isn't your style, this place is also very vegetarian friendly. Kitchen was getting a little backed up but our server was pretty nice to come inform us and check up on if we needed anything else. After about 30 min we got our food. Taste wise it was pretty good and the presentation was not that bad. The portions are massive. What was really nice is if your platter comes with a side of bread you can actually substitute for a pancake. Once your done go ahead and finish up by paying at the front. The food at Just Breakfast is very good, and if not for the service I would give my review 5 stars. I usually leave a cash tip of at least 25% because I know how hard wait people work for so little. However...Went in around 10am on Saturday, 10/9/21. Not busy, maybe 15 customers, so seated quickly. Took my son and granddaughter visiting from Texas for a good breakfast. A blond waitress, 40 something took our orders. To the point, I ordered a Belgian waffle, with an extra butter and a side of two eggs over easy and bacon. Shortly after my son and granddaughter received their order, about three minutes later I received my waffle; it had cooled to the point that the butter did not melt, and I had to remind the waitress of the extra butter. Two to three miutes later comes my eggs, with sausage, not bacon. I respectfully stated I believe I ordered bacon. The waitress replied, no, you ordered sausage. I said, it was bacon. She replied "No, it was sausage, but I will get bacon, give the sausage to her" pointing to my granddaughter, who is a fairly big woman. My granddaughter confirmed that I indeed ordered bacon. I was finished with my waffle when the waitress went by saying she will bring my bacon. I told her never mind, I'm finished eating. A couple minutes later she brought a plate with a couple strips of bacon to the table. I told her "I told you I no longer wanted it. I wanted it to eat with my waffle and eggs and I'm finished." She walked away leaving the bacon on the table. Firstly, don't argue with a customer, especially when he or she is being polite about the wrong order being served. Secondly, do not get snide and disrespectful pointing to an overweight person to eat a wrong order of "sausage" like because she is heavy she would want to eat it. When the waitress brought the check she said she took $4.00 off for the cup of coffee I had. What? $4.00 off for disrespecting and insulting my granddaughter? That waitress blew a $10.00 tip. Came here on a Thursday afternoon with my boyfriend. I order the 3 slice stuffed French toast with strawberry & he ordered the supreme 3 egg omelette. Service was good. She took our order fairly quickly. The time it took from ordering to get the plates to our table wasn't too slow. The French toast in my opinion was rather heavy. I should've ordered the 2 slices cause it felt like I was eating 6 slices with strawberry jam in the middle. But other than that it was very good. I ordered eggs benedict with hash browns, and I basically got lightly toasted toast with a disgustingly thick piece of ham and an severely overcooked poached egg. The hash browns were not crunchy at all (bummer). I feel like overall could have used more flavor. Even the hollandaise sauce needed a lil something. Then we got an order of pancakes- good, but nothing special. The omelette was alright, pretty heavy and packed with meats and cheese but it was wayyy over cooked. Firstly, this place was once was my favorite place to eat. I started coming here in 1980, but stopped about ten years later because I was served molded bread for toast. This place was my favorite becausethe food was good. I knew some of the waitress by name, as some knew me. My first time back was yesterday, 2/2021. No flavor, no sausage in the gravy, served with rubbery, underdone biscuits. Yuck. But I ate it cuz I was really starving...LOL and that made it edible. But when you sit in JB, you see the friendly faces all around from the waitresses to the regulars. This is a joint that people come back to time and again, because it is really friendly. It was nice to see the customers sharing what was going on with the staff and vice versa--all the laughing and joking around. So that's where the two stars come in - the ambience (Not the decor, mind you) was very homelike. I had the Carne Asada Quesadilla and it was delicious!! You can tell that the chef really knows what he's doing. Actually, the entire staff was top notch. Will preface by saying I appreciate a good cup of quality tasting coffee but also have realistic expectations that most breakfast joints will be average. JB's coffee threw me off (tasted like flowers)? Potpourri coffee? I honestly would have preferred watered down coffee. Food was OK. For the quality of food I would have expected lower prices for the breakfast platters or larger servings. My husband and brother in law both commented on expecting to see more food on their plates. It's a tight seating area and parking. Agree with another yelpers comment on the need for improved ventilation in the place. You will walk out smelling like eau de burning butter. I do think there are other breakfast options in the area with better quality and amount of food yet similar price point. I thank my dad for bringing me here when I was 12...that's 30 years ago! Now I bring my family here! Everyone in my family loves "Just Breakfast". I teach my family that places like these are going away slowly and with the cost of everything here in Silicon Valley appreciate good food and how to stretch a buck. Nothing much has changed as far as food quality and prices. You can get a huge breakfast for under $13 and $50 if you bring the fam! There's so much competition with all the breakfast spots that are popping up that I choose to stick to what I'm. most familiar with. As a Yelper it's my duty to try different places and report back to those who've read my reviews and I do. I just choose to give you the places I prefer and highly recommend. Came across this place this morning and decided to try it. Luckily we were able to sit down right away, Food was tasty and prices were good. I was not very impressed with the service. The whole time my husband and I got one refill of coffee and that was because my husband had to ask the waitress when she dropped off the food ( food took a bit longer than expected). The waitress seemed annoyed we asked her for more coffee and seems to me that she rolled her eyes and she walked away. Met my buddy Lynn W. for breakfast today. We like JB - they have some of the best biscuits and gravy. I'm not just a cook, but a Southerner, too. My biscuits and gravy pale in comparison to theirs. Tender soft biscuits, tucked underneath a warm, succulent, romantic blanket of of smooth, creamy country gravy with little bits of sausage and bacon. Lynn made a move for my biscuits. I don't think so, biotch..... get yer own damn biscuits (and a band-aide while yer at it!). I doubt she will ever make that faux pas again! I hope she's learned her lesson: Don't ever get between a southerner and their biscuits and gravy! With my side of biscuit and gravy, I opted for Eggs Benedict, yolks soft, hash browns crispy. I did ask our waitress if the Hollandaise was homemade or packaged and she indicated that she thinks they make it homemade because she's seen lumps in it. But alas, I'd already delivered her a flesh wound, so I just had to sit there and suffer while she had the nerve to eat the edges IN FRONT OF ME!!! ugh! Easy Blender Hollandaise 1-2-3 1 stick unsalted butter, melted 2 whole egg yolks 3 tsp lemon juice Add egg yolks and lemon juice to blender and turn on low. Slowly (slowly) drizzle in the melted butter (tip: Pull the plug out of the top of the blender cap and insert a funnel into the hole. It reduces splatter). Once blended (emulsified), season to taste with salt and cayenne pepper. Thin with hot water if necessary. Sooooooo good! read more

My breakfast buddy, Linda L. and I came here for breakfast this morning. I have been to Just Breakfast numerous times. I have never been dissappointed. And may I say that they have the best coffee ever! It's smooth, not bitter or acidic tasting. And they really keep your cup filled until you tell them to stop. This morning I had a Ranchers Omelete. It's a yummy omelete with ham, italian sausage, and linguica topped with melted cheese.....mmmmm. It was delish!!! The hash browns were cooked well, crispy on the top, a bit softer inside and that's how I like them. Now.....just a word.......well, maybe several, about the biscuits and gravy. If you like biscuits and gravy this is the place!!! It is homemade biscuity goodness. The gravy is not too thick, and the biscuits are light and fluffy. They are sooo good and I would have licked the bowl but it's really bad manners to do that in public. (Right Linda???) The biscuits and gravy are so good here that Linda L. will stab you with her fork if you even so much as LOOK in the direction of her plate where the biscuits and gravy sit. I've learned my lesson. It's ok, it was only a flesh wound. The other thing I would highly recommend here is the Huevos Burrito. It's more like an omelet but with a tortilla in there too. This is a hidden gem! It's hidden in plain sight among auto repair shops and the like and you walk into a warm diner and the aroma of delicious breakfast fare. When the waitress taking my order has hands covered in goo that I can only assume came from the dishes she just cleared from the table next door...I start to worry about what I would find in the kitchen (Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares comes to mind). The food was o-k, JUST o-k. I mean, how bad can you screw up breakfast, right? I gave 2 stars in lieu of 1 for the simple fact that they have quite a 'South of the Border' breakfast menu and I was in the mood for some pre-noon Mexican eats. I opted for some sort of Mexican omelet...ya know...filled with Ortega chilies and Monterey Jack cheese (cause that's authentic) and covered in their mystery Mexican sauce...it was decent, but nothing to write home about. The hash browns probably came out of a bag filled with their frozen friends...nothin' special...but they weren't burnt. Just Breakfast, I'm sorry. I just don't dig it. I used to like this place but... My girlfriend and I came by this place a couple Sunday's ago for a late breakfast. There was an older lady w short dark hair who we assumed was the host/waitress. She made eye contact bout a half dozen times that she walked by us. We stood there for a few minutes before being seated by the bus boy who just finished cleaning a table. We sat with our water and nothing else for about 15 minutes. The older lady w short dark hair walked by us making eye contact every time, without ever taking our order. We walked out after being frustrated watching her help all the surrounding tables. Too bad. I remember I used to like this place. read more

I'm from South Dakota and when we walked in it felt like a country dinner filled with good customers and friendly staff. The portions were standard country portions (large). The country potatoes were very good and the bacon might be the best I've ever had. The coffee was excellent and my cup was always full. read more

After seeing such good reviews for this place, I was curious, (and we've tried most of the breakfast places around, but had missed this one.) Unfortunately, I was really disappointed. It was a pretty tasteless and unsatisfying meal. Nothing was horrible, but nothing was particularly great either. The pancakes were cooked perfectly, but had no flavor. Lou's remains my ultimate fave breakfast spot! read more
