I've passed by this place probably thousands of times throughout the years driving down Monterey, but just never thought to go into this modest, old-fashioned diner. Since the other breakfast joint down the street was packed, my sister and I decided, "Heck, let's try this place. Why not?" Not too much parking space; all the cars are parked pretty tight together. Anyway, we were seated immediately, which is a plus. The waitress was also super friendly, which is another plus. Then I looked around.. my environment wasn't very.. ermm.. sanitary. I feel like they should remodel and clean up the place a bit (inside and out). Maybe it'd attract more customers. The food... I got the biscuits w/ gravy & an order of bacons and sausages. The biscuits were warm, soft, and yummy, but the gravy was so bland. I probably dipped the biscuits into the gravy like three times, and decided to just eat the biscuits alone. The bacon was huge, but it was sort of soft. I prefer crunchy bacon. Sausages were decent. Anyway, I think it's overpriced for the quality of food. Even the glass of OJ that I ordered was tiny. Food is great but the place is always full of smoke ! Every time we go there our clothes smells awful. Is the only reason why we stop going there, hood range may not work well. If you can't tell what they serve here, then I think you need to go back to English class. =P You can tell this place has been around for some time. It's a little run down looking inside but still clean. And the parking lot of pretty small. I can only imagine how crowded it can get early in the morning. I'm so NOT the morning person, so I never see that crowd. The breakfast here is just average. Nothing too special or memorable. They actually serve grits here though, but I think their grits needs this thing called... flavor. Pretty bland. Just drop a stick of butter in there and you're good to go. =P The portions aren't too big here. Not very impressive. But there's a big menu to pick from. I usually judge a breakfast place from how good their coffee is - here, it's pretty decent, not wow but not bad either. If you like Mexican breakfasts then you're in for a real treat here as quite a few of the plates are Mexican. I had the Huevos Rancheros which wasn't as good as my first one that I had (in Mexico) but is better than ones I've had at other restaurants. My girlfriend had the Rancher's omelette (bacon and sausage) which was one of the better tasting omelettes I've had in a while. They have a sprawling menu that covers lunch and an assortment of other breakfasts so you'll have no issue with variety here. The service was terrific - our waitress was friendly, prompt, efficient, and always ready with the coffee. When we arrived there was a bit of a wait (10 min) but I'd say it was worth it; we'll be back! read more

I used to like this place, But came here Monday with my lady for breakfast and first of all our waitress was really rood. I order Huevos con Chorizo and asked for Jalapenos and she threw them on the table then I asked for more tortillas and she was going to charge me for that then I checked the check and I was charged $4 for the first 3 tortillas are you kidding me. This is a really great breakfast place. It's located by several auto shops and mobile home parks. Parking lot is on the smaller side. Once inside, it's a got a small town feel to it. A lot of the folks that dine here appear to be regulars. Mostly older people. The menu has several choices. Make sure you look at the wall by the kitchen because it usually has specials and a few dishes that aren't listed on the regular menu. I've tried several dishes here and I've never been disappointed. I came here on the way to Monterey for breakfast. I had a great experience. We shared the Joe's Special omelette biscuits and gravy and bottomless coffee! Yum! The biscuits and gravy were so creamy. I think they are known for it. And the Joe's special was delicious as well. The omelette was not as big as I'd anticipated. Looks are definitely deceiving. I've lived around this place for almost a decade and have just recently got the nerve to walk in. The place needs a face lift- both inside and out. Just as most of us eat with our eyes first, we also make judgments on how an establishment looks from the exterior. Nonetheless, the breakfast selection is huge. And you might experience some food coma as the portions are quite large also. Just Breakfast is just what you would expect from a mom and pop diner. Walking inside, you are slapped with a gazillion frames on the wall all with various picture of people whom I have never seen. As I glanced across the table, I thought I saw a picture of Obama. But realized, that the staff at Just Breakfast are quite crafty. You'll know what I'm talking about when you get there. We were greeted upon arrival and I thought, this is a great start to the service. However, we did have to wait a bit to order and I actually to hollar for some one to come on over. The food was good. We ordered the chorizo scramble (more eggs than chorizo) and 1 waffle. The scramble came with 3 tortillas. The hash brown were nice and crisp and went with the scramble. I liked the fact that you could taste more of the eggs and the chorizo. Don't get me wrong, there was still chorizo flavor going on. Great value, big portions, and friendly service. Their bacon is especially delicious. Also, their steak and eggs are a fabulous value - the steak is large enough for dinner and they nailed my requested doneness (rare). I normally end up taking half of my meal home as the portions are large. The servers are always friendly and quite efficient considering the number if tables they take care of and the quick turnover. That said, they don't make you feel at all rushed. Just breakfast and a little surprise extra. This place has "the mom and pop" feel for sure! Old-fashioned decor seems to carry a lot of history within but, I was glad to see that they had a modern design for their menu. I decided to get the Corned Beef Hash with Biscuits and Gravy. The Biscuits and Gravy were pretty tasty, the Corned Beef was crisp, I didn't touch the hash browns until 3/4 into the meal. But then it happened...."It" being a strain of hair and "happened" being found within my hash browns. After a good start and tasty biscuits, I thought to myself..."Does this ruin the entire meal?" I was so excited to finally try this place! Its only about 3 miles from where I live and we had a coupon so we thought it would be a great day to try it. Its a tiny and quant little place that sort of reminds me of the places I use to go to as a kid back in the 70s and 80s with my Mom and Grandma. It was super crowded when we first arrived but came back 15 mins and were able to grab a good table. The food is really good! It tastes like homemade breakfast! I ordered the 2 eggs sunny side up, hashbrowns and sourdough toast. FINALLY a place that dosen't serve SOGGY hashbrowns...they were crisp and delicious! Yeah! My husband had the eggs benedict and it was simple but very good. A thick slab of ham and the eggs were perfect. The wait staff is friendly and quick. Our waitress was really down to earth and surprisingly just really sweet! I guess I never expect the best service on Monterey Hwy but they proved us wrong. Really loved this place!! I was so excited to try this place!! I visited on a weekend and was seated quickly by the cashier. After that, we waited around 30 minutes for our waitress to take our order. My boyfriend ordered the country fried steak and I stuck with bacon and eggs. When our good arrived, I hate to say I was disappointed. A pretty good breakfast indeed. A number of people I've taken there didn't think it was as great as I did. But they've got really good biscuits and gravy, which you can order in one or 2 biscuit portions. And their chef is skilled at cooking that corned beef and hash out of the can, just right. 3.5 Stars Small place, from the outside it looks like a house w/ a large triangle roof. Kind of like those houses you see out in the mountains so that the snow falls down the roof. It was really crowded on a Saturday morning. They seem to have regulars and people w/ heart problems or obesity problems seem to come here and enjoy the food and near death experiences. For example a large old woman came in here w/ her husband and w/ her was a device that helped her breathe. I mean I don't want to be offensive but this breakfast place serves heart clogging food. I arrived a little after eight on a Sunday morning and was immediately greeted my a ladies in maybe her early 40s. She smiled and let me know to pick a table. She then gave me coffee and didn't pressure me when I told her I was waiting for my friend. We ordered and within fifteen minutes they brought us our food fresh and delicious. Our food came in a reasonable time and refills were provided promptly. Pluses: -The place feels good and takes one back in time -Good Service -Fulfills those cravings for a real breakfast. -Really great homemade sausage patties, go for them! Deltas: -Truly bad coffee, tastes like it was made in a paper pot, this is the same coffee we all thought was acceptable 30 years ago. OCCASION: My boyfriend and I just finished a morning work out together on Labor Day. (September 5, 2016). We wanted to eat some breakfast food together and found this place. ENVIRONMENT: Located on Monterey Highway, it was in an extremely ghetto looking part of the highway. The parking is behind and around the restaurant and there is only outdoor restroom. Inside, the decorations is retro, which is cool, lots of booths and a small bar area. There is also a small TV. Limited parking though. FOOD: I got the pancake sandwich and my boyfriend got the special waffle sandwich. The portions were huge. The pancake sandwich comes with 3 buttermilk pancakes with a large amount of butter, and with a choice of sausage, ham, or bacon, and a choice of eggs. My boyfriend got a huge waffle with butter, a choice of sausage, ham, or bacon, choice of eggs, and hash browns! Food was delicious. We also got a side of fruit. Side of fruit was not very impressive. I thought there'll be strawberries. No strawberries. There were grapes.. DRINKS: We got orange juice, which cost $2 roughly. PRICE: Great price for huge portions and delicious food! CUSTOMER SERVICE: Awesome service. We came in and the lady said we could sit anywhere we wanted. The lady gave us time to order and another lady came and took our order. She also noticed that my boyfriend's order wasn't made yet even though it should have. My husband likes to come here (seems to a be a convenient little pit stop for bikers, as roadrider is next door), but the food is alright. I do enjoy the corned beef hash plate, it's a bit different, the eggs are poached and is served with peaches. That pretty much does it for me, along with a glass of grapefruit juice. otherwise, I'd probably steer my husband the other way. the waitresses are nice, the old white biker lady looks a bit creepy tho. she would make a nice poster child for some organization like "White Pride World Wide" or a band like "Skrewdriver" or something along those lines. Okay. 1) The food is super good. Like really good. It's because they give you the options you want for breakfast. There are breakfast places that give you all these options for omelette but none of them have the stuff you actually want. So then you have to pay extra and your like damn. But I want bacon. Here it is so easy. Yes I want a omelette with avocado, bacon, cheese, tomato and sour cream. Those are all my favorite things. It's a fusion of awesome. 2) The staff is so nice. Happy and helpful. Quick to refill my coffee and ask if I need anything. I don't ever need anything but if I did, they would there. 3) Wait is totally reasonable. Some places are insane. 45 minutes for some damn food. This places keeps a good pace so why you may have to wait, it won't be horrible and as I described above, it's worth it. read more
