I do think that they've been steadily raising the prices of their food, so sometimes I think that Junzi has become too pricey for what it's delivering. It is Asian fusion with a burrito style bing and noodle bowl offerings. Their noodle bowls are warm noodles mixed with lukewarm or cold toppings, so it took me a while to get used to them. Their late-night events are worth going to, and I think they make the best scallion pancakes out of all the Chinese restaurants in the area. Killer quick-service noodle bar. Walked over a mile during a blizzard to get here as it was recommended so highly. The boyfriend and I both got bowls. I got the pork with basically everything on it and he got the beef. Don't skimp on the chili oil or the sesame sauce. We picked up a lychee drink (delish) and a chrysanthemum tea (weird and perfumey) to wash everything down. The flavors in my bowl were incredibly intense and dynamic. The amount of variety in texture and flavor makes every bite different and more exciting than the last. I was blown away by the quality of this inexpensive counter-service stop. Basically like any build your own bowl/wrap type of deal (ex: poke, Chipotle, Moes, etc.) I ordered a noodle bowl and bing and was not disappointed. The vegetables felt very fresh . The noodles had a great texture that is not always easy to find. Garlic chili sauce was on point for spice and flavor. Honestly so delicious, ingenious, and affordable. I would eat here every day of my life. I haven't come across another restaurant with a similar concept, and thus I keep finding myself drawn to this place. I like getting the thinner noodles and just piling on the toppings and condiments. Everything is good though, from the bing to the tea. The place occasionally hosts special events, so keep an eye out for them as you walk in. They also collaborate with a cool shop that sells pins, so if you're into that they have some on display (I got a peach one for fifty cents). read more

It was an OK experience. I ordered a bowl of chicken spring noodle and got quite full with the portion, but the noodles are all quite dry. They do not offer soup noodle. The kitchen is open so you might get smell on your hair and your clothes after eating there. They don't have many seats, so you often have to wait fot a while to get seated. Far and away my favorite "build your own" style restaurant in New Haven. I'm partial to the knife noodles (which have slight bite and hold sauce a little better than the spring noodles), but the bing (wraps) are excellent too. The vegetables and toppings rotate seasonally, and pair well with the slow cooked meats. The beef in particular is reminiscent of the thin sliced beef noodle soup that I've encountered in Chinatown, and it's been consistently delicious every time I've visited over the past year (at least 10 times). It's very rare for "fast casual food" to not be over seasoned or not leave you feeling heavy afterwards, but somehow Junzi has succeeded! The atmosphere of the location is also very pleasant. Although the space is on the smaller side, the space is bright and welcoming. The walls are covered with plants and posters made by one of the cofounders (who graduated from the Yale School of Art), which showcase upcoming events with guest chefs! The weekly "night lunch" specials on Saturday night are delicious deviations from the standard menu- ranging from classics (dumplings) to fusion (scallion pancakes mixed with red bean and ice cream). You're going to experience flavors that you've never experienced before. Probably because Junzi is a version of Chinese food that isn't common. This is no General Tsao's. It's from a province of China that doesn't grow rice, but instead grows wheat. So their staples are wheat noodles and wraps. Wow. I really hope this little place takes off as a chainlet. America deserves better fast Chinese food than Panda Express. Junzi kitchen is basically a chipotle for noodle bowls and chun bing (roughly a Chinese burrito). You pick a bowl or a bing, and then add whatever ingredients you want until it's completely stuffed. Everything is fresh, the flavors are authentic, and nicely priced for a college student's budget. Go in, try all the flavors, and eat all of the bing! The free white rabbit candies at the counter are a nice touch too. Conjure up all sorts of childhood nostalgia. The side dishes are OK. The smashed cucumbers could use a little more vinegar and spice, but hey, it's a step in the right direction. 10/10 would return. read more

The food was phenomenal! Fresh, tasty and even a hot pepper tray at the front. My ire is directed at the hater they had working the lunchtime "protein" area. I was chatting up a woman in line next to me as we were both there for the first time -- and -- he -- kept -- interrupting -- me -- when there was no one behind us and no reason to be so effing rude. Later when they did have a rush I waited to get more water and decided to refill myself to save everyone a hassle but Mr Hater Protein Man just stared at me and nodded his head slowly "no". Amazing! We came here for the first time yesterday and loved it so much that we had to go back today. The food is fabulous. Fab-U-Lous. Depending on your hunger level, you can order a single chun bing or a giant bowl of noodles. Either way, there are solid options for omnivores and vegans alike. The tofu and veggies we had were prepared perfectly - chewy things were chewy, crispy things were crispy. With the addition of sweet garlic and pickled daikon you almost don't need a sauce. But, you're gonna want one!! The sauces are unbelievable - a great balance of spicy, salty, sweet, and tangy. I remain partial to the garlic chili and the jaja vegetable. Added bonuses - The staff is super helpful, and the space is beautiful. I was surprised by the chill vibe given how many people must walk through their doors. If you're a messy vegetarian, come here! I got a half mushroom half tofu bing, and both halves were great but I really liked the mushroom half of it. Its only fault was its complete lack of structural integrity. Because the wrapper is thinner than a tortilla, the ingredients tend to fall out and the juice runs down your fingers when you bite into it. Good thing they provided a moist towelette to clean up at the end. It saved the bing! read more

Came in here on a rainy February day not for dinner, but more a pre-dinner snack. Junzi is famous for their chun-bings (1 for $4.50 and 2 for $8) which is essentially a spring roll made with a whole wheat pancake and stuffed with a protein (pork, chicken, tofu or beef) and all the vegetables you want. I thought it was delicious. Especially loved the garlic chives and beansprouts -- so good. Flavours are so delicate and well balanced. I also really liked the chilli oil that you can throw on the side. It's the only spicy enough condiment I've had, really. There is also the option of a noodle bowl ($9). Great alternatives to Tikkaway and the now-failing Chipotle down the street. I love the decor of the place. It's small, but cozy. Would recommend more for lunch than for dinner, or take-out at least. While the food is good and the flavors are on point, I feel like this place is a TERRIBLE deal. I got a bowl and they were stingy with everything!!! From the noodles to the sauce, the meat and the side veggies, everything was LACKING! The bowl came to me only 3/4 filled. There were only 3 or 4 pieces of meat in the bowl. There was literally less than a teaspoon of sauce in the bowl. I liked the food but for $11 it's ridiculously pricey. I had to go to another restaurant and order another whole meal because this was so little food, and I'm not even a big eater. I would not recommend this to anyone who is actually looking to eat a meal. For a Chinese Chipotle, I went in with high expectations and was disappointed. The service was quick and it was pretty cheap, but I feel like although all of the ingredients had asian influence, they didn't combine well to make a cohesive dish. Maybe it's my fault for not listening to the chef's suggestions, but I did not get the feeling that I was eating Chinese food, even though most of the ingredients screamed China. I got a noodle bowl with spring noodles (thin), chicken (they ran out of beef), bean sprouts, pickled daikon, cilantro, scallions, and tomato egg sauce. The chicken was just grilled and didn't have any distinct Chinese flavors. My biggest issue was probably the tomato egg sauce. This sauce is traditionally eaten with rice, but I decided to trust the chef and try this spin on a classic sauce. There was very little egg, and no scallions, so it basically became an Italian tomato sauce. This is a trendy Chinese Chipotle, but as opposed to Chipotle, the various ingredients don't work together very well to make a cohesive dish. That being said, if you're looking for fast and trendy Chinese food, you might want to consider stopping by this place. read more

I was searching for a restaurant with vegan options while I'm visiting from out of state, and happened upon Junzi Kitchen. It was super clean, and all the menu options sounded great even the non vegan ones lol! I got the cold sesame tofu noodles and loved it! Next time I'm in the area I'll be sure to come back! I visited Junzi Kitchen last weekend and was very pleasantly surprised with the food! I had heard good things about it, and it certainly lived up to my expectations. AMBIENCE Junzi has a beautiful and modern, albeit small, space. The seating area is limited (if I recall, less than 10 seats in a tight space) but it is clean and functional. SERVICE Excellent - the line moved a bit slowly while we were there (as there was only one person working in the food-serving line) but the wait was not unreasonable. The gentleman who was serving us was polite and helpful. We asked for recommendations for sauces, and he pointed us in the right direction about which sauces he preferred with which meat selections. FOOD Overall, the food was fresh and flavorful. Prior to Junzi, I have only eaten chun bing at home (having grown up in a Chinese family) and in China, so my standards were set fairly high for authenticity and food quality. The quality of the food was good, and the selection of add-ins was wide. Our only concern was perhaps that there was too much flavor -- individually, perhaps the ingredients would have been perfect, but tossed together it became an overwhelming mix of flavors (especially in the noodle bowl) and we both found the offerings slightly too salty for our tastes; while the flavors were bold and fresh, we agreed it might not be a place we would frequent that often, as we felt extremely salt-overloaded after the meal (and I'm the kind of person who can down a bag of Lay's chips with no problem, so that's saying something!). However, the quantity of food was great for the price; the two of us split two chun bings and a noodle bowl and were bursting at the seams afterwards. Overall, I would recommend Junzi to others and will probably come back, next time adjusting the ingredients in my order to include less flavorful selections.
