The is a great Tex-Mex restaurant! First of all, they serve Puffy tacos, in the San Antonio style. Few restaurants can prepare these the proper way. There is great QC, AND management, here. Julio's wife, Elena, stopped by the table and checked in the food. She also told us of a wrestling event that was coming up on May 1. She was SO pleasant. Food looks better in pictures but doesn't taste good as it looks.. ordered the red snapper and not a fan.. no flavor! In Texas - the Tex-Mex competition is fierce. Everyone has a favorite. This place just bumped my previous favorite from its perch and became current favorite. TLDR: Thar food, those ritas. This place has become my most recent go-to when that little voice says - "pssst....Dave....Dave....i know you hear me....you want fajitas." Admittedly, I hear that voice a lot. In any case, I usually order the fajitas. They give you a decent quantity that tastes great. The meet is tender and flavorful and those tortillas had me at hello. I love this stuff! My son elects to go for the cheese enchiladas. I don't have to ask him how much he likes them because is a super picky eater and this is the one place where he actually cleans his plate. The margaritas are solid as well and when you glance around the restaurant, you'll see them on most tables. This place is a well oiled machine. There are plenty of staff and they all work unison to bring drinks / chips / salsa / refills / orders / food -- and that food usually comes out before I can feel guilty for eating chips, salsa, and queso. I found this trick that works for me. Since I 100% of the time feel guilty for leaving the place feeling so full, I started parking on the other end of the parking lot. This allows my to burn off 2.7 calories of the food that just ate so I feel 2.7 percent less guilty. On a serious note - this place is the real deal. I had a good experience at Julio's Mexican grill. The food was good and the lunch specials were great! I got a lot of food for the price I stopped by Julio's on a weekday for lunch. I'm lucky I got there a bit early because it got packed quick!! Although I see why - the lunch deal was great. I got a chimichanga. It was so much food!! The flavor was ok, pretty one note, but that's what I ordered :) I liked the refried beans and chips + salsa. No complaints from me. Service was a bit slow - however our server noted that they were a bit understaffed. Bathroom and interior were all clean and nice. Stopped by here to try out the viral soft serve margaritas & man that margarita did not disappoint! I got the swirl option and it was delicious. You can definitely taste the alcohol immediately. For my meal, I got the botana platter which came with a bunch of different appetizers. Everything was delicious for the most part. I feel like the flautas and some other things could've had more flavor though. The ambiance is nice & service was just okay. The food was delicious! I ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos and they were on point. My spouse ordered the tamales and there was nothing left on his plate. From the outside it looks small, but much bigger inside. Clean restrooms and friendly staff. However our waiter took a bit of time to take our order and it wasn't busy. I visited this mini chain during happy hour which goes til 7 fridays and all day Mon-Thurs and took advantage of a house large margarita just 6.99. As far as location, I've never even seen this restaurant before driving down Rayford because it's hidden at the back corner of a shopping center far from the street. This particular location receives the highest yelp rating of the 3 locations, currently 4.2. Some items you don't see regularly on other tex mex restaurant menus include carne asada fries and several chicken dishes including chicken fried chicken. For food though, the ground beef puffy tacos were recommended so I tried that. Chips and salsa - red is served hot and its good. Green is cool and refreshing. Margarita - a lime margarita that is pretty strong. Puffy tacos - these were pretty good and served on a stainless steel taco tray. The tortillas are homemade and it is of course served with rice and beans. I only ate some of the beans. I'm just not a big Mexican rice eater unless it's homemade and made perfectly. The beans were decent. I was taking a while to eat my tacos, and kept seeing people order a frozen strawberry maragrita (since I was sitting at the bar) and decided to go ahead and order one, but on the rocks. The strawberry puree was pretty good and overall this was pretty good for being a flavored on the rocks margarita. Overall, this is a decent place to grab happy hour. It's more family owned atmosphere than a large chain with fancy decor and architectural features. This location is just 1-2 tenant spaces within a strip center with brick accent wall in the bar area but colorful walls everywhere else. Apparently every 4th Thursday they have Loteria in the evening, so something to check out if you like winning prizes. read more

First time coming here and it was solid. I would highly recommend the flautas, they were delicious. Tacos and quesadillas were good as well. The only downside was the rice. Decided to try more Mexican food tonight because well one can never get enough queso. Started with the large chili con queso with chorizo. Very cheesy. Not a lot of chorizo but enough. Chips that came with it were kinda chewy. But the complementary chips and salsa that come before the meal were crispy at least. Got the supreme ground beef burrito and the ground beef enchiladas which both tasted pretty identical except one had flour tortilla and the other corn. Same sauce on top etc. Obviously we should've thought harder about mixing it up a little. They were both ok. For desert we had to try the fried ice cream. Was pretty good. I don't think they deep fry the ice cream in batter like other places. It seemed to just be rolled in corn flakes and came in a deep fried sugar sprinkled cup. We saw a birthday and looks like the staff will dress up in Mario and Luigi outfits and come to your table to sing happy birthday. Pretty hilarious. We went to this place after a soccer game so it was a party of 13! Took over an hour to get our food! Wouldn't say much about this since it was a lot of us but other people would get there and get their food super fast! Like really fast! But hey it's ok no biggie! Big party I understand. I stopped here for a quick meal with my daughter. As you can see, we only ordered 3 items which totaled $18.37 and I left an even $4 tip. However, as you can see once I checked my transactions, they had changed my tip and my total was $37.07. I called back 2 days later and the same person who waited on us, answered the phone. She obviously remembered me and says it wasn't on purpose, it was an accident. I guess it's easy to add an extra $14.70 tip to the even $4 I left. I informed her I wanted to speak to the general manager, and she provided me the phone number. I will not be returning to this location at all, the service was ok but the fact that they are so untrust worthy has ruined any chance for me going back. Recently tried the Spring location, and not long after got to try this Woodlands location. I was super happy because this location has Mole enchiladas on their menu. Anytime I can find these I have to order them. Of course we had to start with margaritas and I got a frozen peach margarita that came with a gummy worm in it. Not sure if that's always how they serve them, but I thought it was cute. We ordered Queso to start with as well which was extremely thick and a little hard to stir up before serving. The flavor was good though. We also tried some type of stuffed shrimp jalapeno appetizer that was good, but each one is massive and just 99% cheese with a piece of shrimp and a sliver of jalapeno. Finally got to try beef birria tacos! They offer them only on the weekends. I went on a Sunday during lunch time and it was packed so plan accordingly. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side but they also have outside seating. I got chips and salsa to munch on while my entree arrived. The tacos themselves are griddled corn tortillas stuffed with shredded seasoned beef and cheese. They have onions, cilantro, and avocado on the side if you wanted to top them yourself. The broth (consumé) is the liquid that the beef was cooked in, super rich and flavored with spices it was delicious to dip for each bit of my taco. I will love to get these again. The Sawdust location is kind of small and hidden, but definitely not a secret and they've expanded enough that we can usually get a table pretty quickly.
