Had breakfast here. Service was good though it wasn't crowded at the time. French toast, pancakes and omelets were good and sizable portions. The only reason for 3 stars is the coffee wasn't good. Maybe we got a pot that was sitting for a while though it was early. Would try again though. If the coffee was good, this place would be a hidden gem. read more

The first time I went w/ my kids, the food was nearly inedible. The pancakes tasted like they were cooked on a dirty griddle. I waited about a year to return in hopes it had improved. Yeah..no, it hadn't. Ordered stuffed french toast. The underside of the french toast was not cooked at all. It was an eggy-milky puddle of mush. It was clear the chef didn't understand how to cook this dish. Considering how thick the challah bread is you have to cook it through (both sides) before stuffing it. It was not safe to eat. I asked to have it cooked through and they refused. Then when I changed my order (at their request) the chef who was behaving like an angry child came out and told me that he would not serve us because I will just complain. Really?! You are in the service industry and when a customer requests the food be cooked through (you know, basics of serving food) you throw a tantrum. Don't waste your time or money. Any local (who likes good food) knows this place is disgusting. read more

Went here this morning after church. New to Flemington and tired of the same old places. Yelp offered a 10 percent coupon to check in so I thought... let's just try it. I got the egg white omelette with avocado. The portion size was good and it was filling but for me it was a little flavorless. I added some hot sauce but that did not help. The hot sauce wasn't hot. I might have wanted a coffee refill but the waitress brought the check and said "anytime you're ready" without offering a refill, and in her defense I did not ask. When I presented the yelp 10 percent off coupon no one had ever seen that before. They stared at me blankly. I told them it was kind of the reason I came in so they gave me the discount but did not seem too happy about it. I told them I would contact yelp which I did and got no response either. They offer lovely outdoor seating so I might go back on a nice day to enjoy lunch outside, otherwise I don't think I would go out of my way to come here again. read more

Delicious, and very large, brooklyn omelette, with salmon, potato, onion! We stumbled upon JS when wandering through Flemington, and decided to try somewhere new. I am gluten free, and the waitress was very helpful in accomodating. I will add a note of warning for those who are celiac. The toast is gf, however, it goes into the same toaster as the regular toast. I was also offered gf fries, but again they go into the same fry basket as other non-gluten foods, so they also were a no go for me. The waitress was so sweet, understood once I explained. Just be sure to ask the questions, if needing to stay gluten free. I had the omelette without the toast. It was divine! read more

The "cappuccino " was, apparently, some kind of mix or something...a not drinkable, bitter swamp in a cup. The smell of grease greats you at the door, outside! I shoulda known. Only three other customers here and still the guy was spectacularly inefficient getting us coffee, taking our order. Eggs were ok. This is America and it's hard to screw up eggs. read more

Great place! Service is always good and the omelettes and French toast are incredible. If it is a little slow, the owner comes out and tries to get to know you. A great casual place to catch up with friends. I highly recommend trying the South Beach egg white omelette (pictured). Definitely worth trying and you'll always leave here full! read more

(would have given 0 if possible) Been a long time resident of the area and haven't been to this place for years. Needless to say it was a really rainy sunday and my girlfriend was running the main street half marathon so I had some time to kill. I was hungry since it was early in the morning an had a good amount of school work to work on while I waited for her to finish. Walk in and there is not a single other person in the restaurant let alone in town at this point. What I assume was the owner and the poor (friendly) girl that got stuck working with him that morning were the only ones in there. Asked very nicely if it was okay to grab some breakfast and work on a little bit of work while I kill maybe an hour waiting for her to finish the race. He seemed annoyed already for some reason, but the nice girl working there said sure sit where ever you what. Then I asked if there were any seats where there might be an outlet since I couldn't remember if my computer was charged or not. She said yes pointed to a table and he interrupted her and said no this is not a starbucks. At that point I kindly thanked them and walked out. Moral of the story is that who I suspect is the owner is a dick and doesn't understand customer service. I work in retail and have for a long time and can say from experience that he could have handled that in may different ways where I would have just walking away in complete understanding and agreement. Lots of other really great places in the area that treat people with respect and common decency. read more

Just passed by the town today and I was looking for a place for brunch. I was just wandering around and entered this restaurant by random pick, and I glad I did. Interior was simple but u can absolutely find elegance details around. The owner gave me a big welcome and suggested me trying their special: the sunflower roll, which have grilled chicken, bacon, tomatoes and other vegis wrapped into. And i order sunny side up eggs as well. Oh my! The roll is gorgeous and tasted so refreshing, and the eggs itself just cook in perfectly shape. The meal was big I didn't manage to finish it. I'm Chinese and I usually don't prefer American-styled breakfast/brunch, but this spot have made me feel so satisfied. I'm happy with the meal and the hospitality of the owners. Please come here and try out their food when u passing by! read more

Great breakfast! I've had the mushroom omelette and avocado breakfast sandwich the two times I've been here and look forward to going back and trying more items. Coffee is amazing and portions are generous. Home fries could've been a bit softer last time I was here but not terrible. Owner was very friendly and while it is slightly more expensive than a diner it is still reasonably priced and a great local joint! read more

Had breakfast there recently and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has changed for the better since I visited a year previously. The menu had more variety and, while my breakfast was just the usual one of eggs,bacon, home fries and coffee, it was delicious. Everything was well prepared and the service was great. In the 50's and 60's in the Northeast, diners and coffee shops used to be very popular for breakfast. This was because chefs knew how to cook eggs--they "knew their egg." People wanted their eggs just so, and there was a difference between over easy, over medium, and over hard, for example. Today this is no longer the case. You get pretty much the same result regardless of what you order. There is one notable local exception, however. In Flemington, the chef at JS Shaker Café "knows his egg." I have had breakfast there 3 or 4 times, and can attest to his skill (I like my eggs over medium--difficult!). So if you are picky about your eggs, or just want to enjoy a good breakfast, you might want to try this place out. read more

Extremely kind and friendly waitstaff greet you every time you walk in and all thank you on the way out. Very homey feel and great food. Closes every day at 3 though. I liked that they had a breakfast menu (along with lunch items) throughout the day. The staff was very friendly but not that attentive (ie we had to ask them to refill our drinks) and the food was not great. I have visited this café on numerous occasions. My wife and I usually enjoy a Sunday morning breakfast. We vary our locations and decided to have breakfast at the café. The place is clean. It was not too crowded. I guess it is a family run operation. There was only one waitress, and she appeared to be overwhelmed with customer or just plain ditzy... My wife and I sat down. About 5 minutes later she showed up at our table and took our coffee order. Five minutes later she came back with the coffee. By this time, other people came in and sat down. We watched as she took their orders and seemed oblivious to the fact that we were even there. Ten minutes later..."Do you want to order anything?" WTF. We both ordered poached eggs with bacon and whole wheat toast. Fifteen minutes later, we received what looked like soft boiled eggs in a cup, home fries, white toast and incinerated bacon. I got up and walked the eggs back to the chef (owner?) When I told him these were not poached eggs he replied, "Sorry about that pal." Really? If you are the chief cook and bottle washer and can't make or do not know how to make poached eggs, maybe you are in the wrong like of work. I walked back to the table with my cup of eggs in water and sat down. The waitress then came to the table and handed me a bill for $21.79 ! My wife stepped in front of me before I blew a head gasket and paid the bill. Needless to say, I will NEVER darken their door again. Do yourself a favor, go to the Country Griddle on Rt 202 off of the circle. They really do know how to make poached eggs !!!!! read more

Went for lunch yesterday with my kids. My son has a peanut allergy and I asked the waitress to please let the "chef" know. I overheard heard the waitress tell the "chef" and he annoyingly responded by yelling at her that he didn't want to hear about nut allergies or "deal with" nut allergies. Waitress came back to the table and was clearly embarassed. She stated that they couldn't guarantee that my son's meal would not be contaminated. We cancelled my son's order. The rest of us ate our meals and left, never to return again to this establishment. Very disappointing experience. read more
