I cried learning they had gluten free fried chicken sandwiches and biscuits- the holy grail of gluten free foods- so hard to make. Their patty is thin and but still flavorful and juicy, and paired with pickled onions and their special sauces. They come with choices of curly fries and hashbrowns which are both bomb. If you're not a burger fiend they have a chicken sandwich and impossible sandwich on the menu too! Make sure to try their hand pies with fresh sweet peaches. They even commented that their ice cream was still chilling to the right consistency so they wouldn't serve it to customers if it wasn't perfect! Joyland was just what Bham was missing! You really can't beat the notorious Crustburger, definitely making the list of Bham's top burgers. We split curly fries and waffle hashbrowns. Both ridiculously good, but the waffle hashbrowns are definitely something special. We also tried the chocolate malt milkshake, and it was the perfect consistency. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful, walking from table to table to check in. Highly recommend Joyland and can't wait to come back to try more! read more

Good prices, great atmosphere, even better food. Joyland has been recommended to me a few times and I finally got around to visiting. I ate inside, which was decorated very colorful and retro-style. There is also an outdoor seating area which looked pretty nice. The staff was friendly and the woman taking my order sold me on the Crustburger, which is basically a smash burger with onions and cheese. Though the name might not sound appetizing, it certainly was delicious. I also had a side of curly fries, which I'd recommend to anyone who prefers their fries to be on the crunchier side. The sauce that comes with it was great for dipping both the fries and burger in. This place is a pretty simple concept with great execution. All in all, great spot to get a burger, especially if you're tired of the same old fast food rotation. I will definitely be coming back here! read more

So, breakfast is kind of a miss for me. Staff is pleasant and appreciate that they're open on Sunday AMs but ... There's cheese? in the gravy with biscuits which is off-putting. The maple-y bacon is too much with eggs in the wrap-- just give us plain bacon? And the "prepped" square eggs on biscuits and cheese form are not good and not not hot. I'm a fan of lunch/dinner offerings especially the smashed burger (like a divine patty melt). The boozy shake is also great. I'm just searching for a good local Sunday bfast and that's not my fav. When I first saw the "Joyland" sign in front of what was formerly Rodney Scott's BBQ, it made me excited. I had never been to the one in Nashville, but how can you not be excited about a place called "Joyland"? The atmosphere is very cool. Primary colors, murals, light wood, 90's music playing, a "Tetris" poster next to a "Guns n Roses" poster in the bathroom, etc. The staff is as polite and welcoming as they come. And the food? I was pleased, overall. The burger was super tasty and had a very good sauce. However, it was a little small. I could have eaten two of them easily. For the price, it should have been bigger. The same goes for the chocolate shake, which was also off-the-chain good but rather tiny. The crinkle-cut fries were satisfying. I had breakfast on my next visit. The chicken biscuit was definitely not a little small. It was actually so big I couldn't finish it. But it wasn't crispy enough and didn't have enough hot honey sauce. It was also made with dark meat. I know that was the flavor they were going for, but I think it would have been better with white meat. I'm not sure I'll order it again. The waffle hashbrowns were a great accompaniment (I'll order those again, for sure). I definitely plan on returning and trying a few other things on the menu. And getting another shake! read more

Visited Joyland while in town for a festival after hearing great things about their biscuits for breakfast. I ordered two traditional biscuits and one sausage, egg & cheese. Unfortunately, all the biscuits were undercooked and I wasn't a fan of the texture. The egg seemed more like an egg bake cut to fit the biscuit and was way too thick for my sister to enjoy. The crispy edges were nice and it came with a tiny amount of grilled onions and a side of sauce but the burger was average at best. Curly fries and crinkle fries were pretty good. 2 different friends got the peach hand pie and said it was actually quite tasty so if it gets a 2nd chance I'll try one. Like a greasy potato chip with no salt, although in waffle shape. Gross. I could see how the concept here would be a money maker though for the ceo (chef?): fry everything and sell it. The website promises: "furiously studied, tested, and perfected over countless trials, utilizing pioneering food technologies and the highest quality ingredients" needless to say I didn't get that. That wasn't my experience tonight. It all seemed unstudied and burnt on a flat top, and there were unrelated rainbows painted on the wall insisting we ought to be happy about it all. With a very unoriginal sauce! I mean the sauce was good, because it's a sauce, anything to put on the greasy crisp. I didn't feel very joyful and I wanted an aspirin. I didn't have the chicken on a stick. But the chicken on a stick is 6$. I get unlimited of those at chinese buffet, right? Is there something I'm missing with the chicken on a stick? Something Sean Brock did to it? I was at a little over $15 for the combo meal which is an ok price point for the calories but If given the choice I'd prefer a double whopper over Joyland, (the whopper has lettuce and tomato and onion, I.e. a garnish) I'm not sure it will last. Especially since it's in the old Bottletree building. No restaurant has survived there since the bar closed. How many since, 3 or 4? When I walked into the establishment, it was nicely decorated with a retro and colorful theme throughout the restaurant. I was greeted right away and ordered at the counter. My order included a Chicago-style hot dog, fries, a drink, and a crustburger. It wasn't busy that night, so my food came out really fast. The funny thing is, I went to the restroom for a short amount of time--less than five minutes--and when I came back, my food was already sitting at the table with my boyfriend. He was waiting for me to come back so we could eat together. I really didn't think it was going to be that fast, but that's a great thing! The restrooms were also nice, clean, and gender neutral. Now, back to the food: everything was hot and fresh. The Chicago-style hot dog had mustard, relish, onions, pickles, sport peppers, and celery salt on a poppy seed bun. It was good, but hot dogs aren't really my favorite, so the crustburger ended up being my favorite item. They also had the small, chewy ice, and since I'm an ice lover, that was a big plus for me.
