The only thing missing was that neon green relish that looks radioactive but somehow makes a Chicago dog official. I kind of missed it. A little. Then I got adventurous. Mistake number one. I ordered the Beef Sandwich, what I can only describe as a sloppy joe with a pickle on top. It sounded bold. It tasted... fine. Not terrible. Not memorable. Just sort of there. It's like I betrayed the hot dog gods and they let me know. My colleague went with the burger, which Tony's is apparently campaigning as "best of" material with the local news crowd. He said it was decent and a great value. High praise in burger language. Now the onion rings? Absolute perfection. Crispy, golden, and cooked exactly the way onion rings should be cooked. No notes. If I had stuck strictly to the hot dogs, this would've been an easy five-star situation. But I strayed. That's on me. Four stars. Next time, I'm staying loyal to the dogs. read more

First time in and got there 30 minutes before they closed. I expected to have the place to myself but, to my surprise, the place was close to full. The Chicago dog was excellent and, even though it was close to closing time, everything was fresh and tasty. The staff was friendly and not in a hurry to shut down while I was there. There's always a line at Tony's for a reason! The burger is huge, well-seasoned, and not dry at all. The fries are a large serving and are perfectly crisp. Even though ordering may take a bit with the crowds, the food is prepped quickly and it's definitely worth it. read more

I have been here several times, but this is my first time to review. On Friday before Memorial Day, I decided that I wanted a Tony's polish sausage and fries. It was close to noon and I was concerned that it would be packed because of people taking off for the holiday. I took a chance and it was not as crowded as I was expecting. Their giant burgers are nothing short of incredible, but that day, I wanted a polish sausage. The atmosphere inside is warm and inviting. The husband and wife team are on the grill, and the wife asks you what you want to get it on the grill next. The other employees are working the cash register and preparing trays or to go bags. There are several tables inside if you want to hang out, but get there early because there aren't many places. I gave the wife my order and she got things started for me. By the time I paid (very reasonable) and got my drink ready, my order was up. I went back to work and dug right in. The polish sausage had just enough mustard and sauerkraut to make the flavor burst in my mouth. The fries were still hot, even after a 15 minute trip. My tummy was very satisfied after my lunch. Tony's is not fancy, just great food at a very reasonable cost. Don't expect white linen and count yourself lucky if a table is available at busy times of the day. But, if you want a B'ham style hot dog, this is THE place. Of course their hamburgers and sandwiches are in the same league when it comes to outstanding food. I know they have had to raise prices like every other eating establishment, but it is still a value and the quality is off the charts! I think it is remarkable that list of "best in the area" awards keeps getting longer as the years roll by. This is a family run business where the pride of ownership is apparent. We ordered at the counter and took our burger and fries to-go. The customer service was great. The staff appeared to enjoy their jobs and they were extremely nice. The burger was fresh, the bacon was crispy and the ranch was drinkable. Ha, I'm kidding but I love a good homemade ranch. I didn't snap a pick of our hot dog but it was probably the highlight of the food we had. It honestly didn't even make it home on our 10 minute drive to the house. Great lunch spot, and apparently a lot of people already know this. David L. And I had lunch here a couple of weeks ago. The line can extend out the door during lunch, but it moves extraordinarily fast. Especially considering how small the kitchen is. It is a well oiled machine. I ordered a Chicago dog and a Tony's dog. I do like hot dogs. The Chicago Dog was fantastic. I called my friend who is originally from Chicago and told him I just the best Chicago dog ever! The Tony's dog was also excellent and I would recommend it. Hats off to Tony's. I want to try some more hot dog combinations. Stopped by for a late lunch. Approached the door and checked the operating hours just to make sure I wasn't walking in right at closing time. Sign said they close at 3, check my watch and it's 2:06. Go in and there are 4-5 people in line in front of me, not a big deal. I grew up in the hot dog business, slung many dogs over the years so I knew 10 minutes or so, not a big deal and with 4 people behind the counter that was a reasonable expectation. I waited till my turn to order, 2 hot dogs no onions. I again waited patiently as my turn to pay at the register approached. I finally walked out at 2:28. I didn't walk out entirely due to the 22 minute visit. The entire staff showed an absolute lack of functional process. Example: the lady in front of me had 2 drinks, the woman adding ice to the cups literally stopped to converse with one of the other staff members, as if the folks in line hadn't already been there too long. The final irritant was when the lady in front of me paid and walked away I stepped up only to be looked over for a man who came in at least 10 minutes after I did (presumably a call in order). I ordered 2 hot dogs ..... 22 minutes. I would have expected an established business to have it more together than that. read more

Classic Birmingham style hot dog place, but not just that. They certainly get the hot dog right, but they also have the best hamburger in Shelby County, bar none. Possibly the largest hamburger as well. Real hand formed patties and well cooked and seasoned. Lots of other variety on the menu as well, but I rarely stray from the slaw dogs and cheeseburgers. Great fries, and a lot of them. Great onion rings too! The staff is warm and friendly, and don't be too scared when there is a good sized line (out the door!) they move pretty quick and with a smile. Honestly, this is the best hot dog place I have been to in a long time. The staff is very friendly and quick with your orders. They will even strike up a conversation with you as you wait for your order, which, depending on the order, could take a few minutes to be ready for you as soon as you finish paying for your order. As for my order, I got their signature Tony Dog and then one of their slaw dogs, which both were very good, and I can highly recommend either hot dog. Now, as for how it looks, the restaurant is small and clean. You will be hit by the smells of hotdogs and everything else they serve the moment you walk in, and the music is also lovely to listen to, such as Phil Collins's In the Air Tonight, which was playing while I ate. You also can take your food to go, so if you are in a rush and want a hot dog, I encourage you to stop by here and get some delicious hotdogs. read more

I stopped in to pick up some breakfast for an early morning business merting and while it was simple, it seemed to be enjoyed by all. I even picked up a few hot dogs (it is after all in the business name) and found the one I had (with chili, mustard and onions) to be decent. I am from New Jersey where we put an emphasis on the quality of the hot dog instead of just the topping and while I have had better hot dogs, I have definitely had far worse. The breakfast sandeich was good and everyone seemed to enjoy them. Service was also friendly. I have heard a lot about their burgers, next time I will have to try one. How is it even possible that I am just now coming here???? This place is a gem! I love a good hotdog and let me just tell you , these were some wonderfully made hotdogs! Full of flavor and good to the last bite! The crinkle cut fries were hot and the portion size quite generous. I couldn't even eat all of my fries! I really appreciate places like Tony's . They are a family owned business and seem to really love making good food for their regular customers and new customers. I am certainly a fan indeed! This isn't a huge establishment but there's inside seating and a few tables outside. Masks aren't required but recommended. Great place for burgers and hotdogs. I came across this gem back in 2017 and anytime I want a good homemade tasting hamburger (when I don't feel like cooking lol) I make the drive her. I'll warn you there is alway a line during lunchtime and since COVID the line can be out the door, but it moves pretty quickly. You can order your food ahead of time and they will have it ready for you. On this trip I couldn't decide if I wanted a burger or a hotdog so I got both! I ordered the cheeseburger with Tony's sauce and Tony's hot dog minus onions. Both were amazing. Even when I warmed the leftovers up the next day. I highly recommend this place. read more

I've had Tony's on my list to visit for months. After finishing up several appointments and not having breakfast, I decided to check it out. I guess I missed the lunch rush because I walked right in and placed my order for a cheeseburger, all the way. I thought it would take a little bit but as I peeked over the counter, I saw that they had several burgers going. The burger is a nice size. I ate it in two settings. I didn't order fries as I actually thought it was included for the price. I was able to get full off the burger alone. So, I didn't miss the fries.
