Where do I begin? Let's start with deciding to sell our home in Palm Springs and thinking we would have plenty of time to find a place. We decided to put up our house on the market right after Thanksgiving. Boom! It sold in 5 days. We then decided to go look for another home. Well not so fast in this economy. Not to mention we needed to be out before Christmas. Let's fast forward, we end up getting an apartment in Redlands and decided to take our time to look for something. Maybe even new build. Once again, the apartment would not be available until mid January. Okay, what we do? I called our realtor and he gave us some numbers. We were very specific, we needed to move then have our items stored in a climate controlled facility. Then moved again to a 4th floor apartment building. We got the runaround from so many companies. The large companies were the worst they were pawning us off to smaller movers which didn't have the resources or what we needed. Weeks passed and I went to check the mail and in it I found a post card for Joyce Movers. I rolled my eyes thinking... who sends post cards and paper ads. Well I put the card down and didn't think about it. A couple days later I look them up and gave them a call. I spoke with Aaron Baldwin. Not related to the Baldwin brothers. At least I don't think. Anyway, he was something out of a moving dream. This is how it starts... he sends me a link via text. Very high tech. You fill out all the information, when, where, house size etc. but here is the best part. You click on a room and video the room and it uploads and gives them an idea of the items you have. He is able to tell you the items that need to packed a certain way or offer their services. I mean how awesome. Then he calls you a couple days later and goes over the items and the estimate and how it will work. I had done some research aka googling and knew it would cost me but that it was best to ask for 4 people. The cost was not nearly what I had thought. It was so much less. Then if you agree he sends the forms over you sign and provide a credit card. They charge your card a few days before and for a little more just in case. A few days before we were supposed to move the weather said it was going to rain. 100% chance of rain. We contacted Aaron and told him we didn't feel comfortable moving in the rain. He said no problem. He did say he was booked but he would figure it out. We contacted our realtor and asked to push our closing date a couple days out but the buyers wanted $5,000 for the inconvenience. We were horrified. We told Aaron our problem and he got on the ball. He got us on the calendar for that Saturday. Moving day... they showed up there on time between 8am-10am. 4 guys like I had asked. They each introduced themselves to me and omg! They put covers and plastic everywhere to protect the tile and carpet and cushion things to perfect the door frames. Then the lead starts the tagging process. They started working so fast and efficient. They all must have known each other forever because they just knew what to do. Yeah and before I knew it, they were finished. We went over all kinds of forms and and inventory list. Side note, get the insurance. Better to safe then sorry. The moment you no longer own that home the property insurance isn't valid. They have great insurance. Thank god we didn't need it. Then just like that they left. A month passed and it was time to move our stuff into the apartment on the 4th floor. Weeks leading up to the day of move in, Aaron had been in touch with us getting prepared and telling us that we will be getting a credit for the first part of them move. He sent us the quote and just like that it had included our credit. Wow! Again very reasonable. Best part is the insurance we first purchased covered the second part of the move. The guys shows up on time, introduced themselves to me since this was a different team. The lead walked up with his crew and he gave me one job. They would call out numbers and I was to cross it off the list and let them know where everything goes. Just like last time, padding, floor protectors and came out. They put all my items back together and boom! They were done. After each time Aaron had called to ask me how it went. I wish I would have met him. He was really genuine. He isn't a salesman. He does actually care about protecting your items. Do yourself a favor and call them "Joyce Movers" first. And listen to Aaron and his suggestions. You won't be sorry. This has been a horrendous experience. This was our first big move and first time using a moving van service. I really did a lot of research on making the move easy for everyone. I packed our belongings in U Haul boxes for size consistency and ease of loading. Labeled every box with contents and area of house it was to be placed in. Used "fragil" labels and marked boxes if they were heavy or crushable. I was ready. The day of the move: *Man with clipboard argued about number of items, evidently a yard rake holds the same importance as a sofa. I asked why someone doesn't come out ahead of time and count he gave me a look and said "we don't have time" *Told it would take 4 hours to load truck, took 9 AND they arrived late. *Left items behind: picture on a wall, ladder, cable box *Left their food containers, soda cans & water bottles all over floors as well as packing materials when they left. Told it would take 1-3 weeks to arrive at new home. Good/bad news arrived in 4 days and we were not ready (thought I had a week). Arrived via a different company (NOT Joyce) Driver drove over neighbors septic field ($$$), multiple damaged boxes, boxes placed anywhere and everywhere despite specifically labeled areas matching boxes, damaged furniture, and dirty mattress. I know no one takes care of my stuff like I do, but this has ruined an exciting adventure for us. This move cost us $23,000 and I expected a bit more. I had no idea it would not be the company we hired that would transport our things. I also learned later that 2/3 of the gentlemen that unloaded were not employees but were hired that day off of Craig's list. read more

This is based on the telephone call I received from Joyce to get an estimate. I wasn't asked how big our house was, what items I had to move, two floors, refrigerators, washer/dryers, nothing. I was quoted 4 men, $190/hr. 10 hr minimum. Plus a $50 fuel charge. I blurted out how can you say it's going to take 10 hours? He said that's the minimum they charge! That's absurd. I just find it very hard to believe someone can give an accurate estimate without asking crucial questions. We had such a pleasant and professional experience from Day 1. Jim came out to our home and gave us a detailed estimate for our move. He scheduled the date and time for packing and loading and Chris and his crew showed up on time as promised. They were amazing! All our household goods were packed carefully and securely. Joyce Van Lines moved me from California to Florida in June 2020. My experience: JOYCE VAN LINES IS CARELESS AND UNRELIABLE AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. Joyce Van Lines has lost a semi-antique oriental rug valued at $2400. When I filed a claim, they refused to pay, despite the fact that their own tracking of the rug showed it to have been lost. I have repeated my claim three times, explaining over and over what happened to the rug. I have corresponded with both Joyce's claims adjustor, Mason Foxlow, and Joyce's California agent who oversaw my move, Jim Prendergast. Here is what happened. (1) PREPARATION OF GOODS. Before the move I specifically listed the rug--a Hamadan measuring 6'10" x 3'9"--on the High Value Inventory requested by Jim Prendergast. It was one of five oriental rugs of different sizes and designs; I included photographs and dimensions of all five. I paid for full replacement value "protection" for all items being moved. (I understand that this is not insurance; however, the form I signed says "the moving company is liable for the full (replacement) value of your goods in the event of loss of or damage to the goods." (2) PACKING. Before the packers came, the four smaller rugs--including the one Joyce has lost--were separately rolled and taped (in the manner recommended by oriental rug professionals) and placed in the same spot in my living room. Joyce's claims adjustor determined, when tracking the rug, that the packers had unrolled this rug--only this one, not the others--and placed it in a box (item #194). The packers did not inform me at the time, so I did not know that the rug was concealed. The other three smaller rugs, still rolled up, were wrapped in paper. The fifth (very large) rug was put into the truck. (3) DELIVERY. When the delivery crew came, box #194 was checked off but I did not know the rug was inside. The deliverers unpacked most of the boxes--I had paid for a full unpack. I could not be everywhere at once, and I didn't see what came out of box #194. The deliverers took away all empty boxes and wrappings and left in a hurry. (4) DISCOVERY AND REPORTING OF LOSS. When I had time that evening to make a thorough inventory of my belongings, I saw that one of the rugs was missing. The next morning I telephoned Jim Prendergast and reported the loss. He said he would track the rug. When I didn't hear back from Mr. Prendergast after several days, I called him again. He said he would talk to the packers. When another week and a half went by with no word from Mr. Prendergast, I filed a claim. (5) DENIAL OF CLAIM. At this point, I began dealing with Mason Foxlow. (Mr. Prendergast simply disappeared, though I sent him copies of my correspondence with Mr. Foxlow.) Joyce Van Lines has denied my claim on the grounds that box #194 was checked off on the delivery inventory. However, when I checked it off, I did not know the rug was inside the box. I never saw this rug at all! Mr. Foxlow claimed the deliverers say they unrolled the rug and placed it on the floor--but the rug they placed was a much bigger one. I have repeatedly explained this to Mr. Foxlow, sending him photographs of both rugs. He has now stopped replying to my emails. read more

Selecting a moving company is not something you do every day, nor is it like purchasing something off of Amazon. We looked at every option from Pods, U-Haul, and 3 other big name moving companies, but Joyce just kept coming to the top of our list. Our biggest hang up was the pricing - there are several types of pricing when you move and Aaron, our Sales Consultant provided excellent information on them so we could confidently make a choice. Joyce was the only company who came to our home to inventory our belongings for the estimate. Joyce had presented a folder of extremely helpful information from helpful hints, Packing, loading and unloading, time line by week to prepare you all the way to 'Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move' (from the DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator). We decided to pack ourselves and Alex and his team managed some of the larger bits like mirror, pictures and furniture. They took extreme care our belongings. They introduced themselves upon arrive and asked for a tour of the house so they could develop a plan. It was wonderfully orchestrated and efficient. Upon arrival in our new state, we decided to store our belongings in a storage unit and Romero and his crew did a great job unloading and making it all fit into our unit. This was our third move, so I know what to expect from a moving company and breakage, but Joyce was beyond " reasonable" damage to big pieces of furniture. Almost as if movers (who I had bought lunch for and supplied cold beverages for 2 days) had an axe to grind, corners smashed on desks, antique table (from grandmother)smashed and in storage found unwrapped and pieces missing. A love seat my dad made back in the 70s was in storage upside down and broken WHY??? WHY UPSIDE DOWN??....I havent even yet got to my second storage unit with many antiques ALL MARKED FRAGILE , but found them with heavy stuff onto of them (didnt open boxes just restacked until remodel complete of home). But even something as simple as not removing air bladders from our select comfort bed AS I ASKED THE MOVERS NOT TO because we wanted the bed in the apartment until we found a house ( I called them immediately about them missing and they said they could be in any box my manifest log never listed them, WANT TO KNOW WHY? Because I found air bladders being used as moving blankets in back of the storage unit so for 5 months we had to buy crap temporary mattresses I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND Joyce ...absolute substandard movers. read more

These guys were amazing and I would definitely use them again! Our team consisted of Louis, Mark, Bubba, and Jack and were incredibly fast, fun, and resourceful! They packed our old place and moved everything to storage, then moved things from storage to our new place a month (and about 400 miles) later. So far, very few things have been broken. Yay! All of the furniture and *most* of the boxes ended up in the right rooms! The only issues that we've had are: 1. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to claim things if they were broken because we have toddlers and unpacking is a very slow process and we will soon be outside of the claim timeline. 2. Many of the boxes have labels that don't make sense (although, that is probably why they are so fast). For example, there are boxes labeled "pillows" that have 1 pillow, and a ton of random other things from a closet, so finding things isn't the easiest. That being said. We thought these guys were great and would love to use them again! read more

It was difficult to find a mover who would come up to Lake Arrowhead to give us an estimate, but Aaron , the estimator came right away to give us an estimate. The guys were careful with our belongings, and they were all so positive, pleasant and polite that the day ended up being rather fun for all of us, as fun as packing and moving can be. This is our 14th move and some of those moves weren't such a great experience. Our belongings are now stored there in LA and Joyce Moving will deliver them to our new home soon. We moved our home of 23 years from Southern California to Portland with Joyce Van Lines, and everything could not have gone more smoothly. Our initial contact at Joyce was Aaron Baldwin. Aaron came out to our home twice to make sure he provided us with an accurate estimate for the services, and we discussed things we could do ourselves to help save some money. It was clear from our first conversation with Aaron that he was a straight shooter and that we could trust what he told us. For example, we paid for their team to pack us up but Aaron told us we'd only pay for the packing the Joyce team needed to do and any packing we did ourselves would end up lowering the overall price. I was a little unsure if we'd actually see that savings, but I just got the bill and ended up being 15% lower than the estimated cost! The pack up, transport and unload team led by Tom along with Jacob and Mr. Lee and a few local team members was equally trustworthy, honest and dependable. We haven't moved in 23 years and I don't know if we'll have another big move in our future, but if we do I'll be using Joyce and at least this team based out of the Redlands, CA office will get my fullest recommendation for others planning a move. read more

Absolutely the worst. Moved from East Coast to West Coast. The day before my delivery, they called that they have to transfer my stuff from the larger truck to a smaller sprinter because they don't know if they could fit on my street. Of course, they charge you couple thousand more as you have no choice as your stuff is held hostage. They should have know that from before. Unfortunately, you have to sign they day of delivery that you got everything. Over 75+boxes, it's hard to know you are missing a box until you starting unpacking. Box of my beautiful wine glasses went missing. They cracked my TV as well. Submitted a claim. Received a lovely email that I signed on the delivery date that I got everything. Also, they valued the TV less than I paid. I had submitted my receipt. They valued my TV right below the deductible, so they couldn't do anything about it. Very fitting!! They also state that they can't have any communication over the phone, it must be done in writing as it's a company policy. The claim adjuster had his phone number on his e-mail signature. Pretty stupid to put your phone number then. Horrible customer service. Don't recommend them. read more

After much review and many quotes I elected to go with Joyce Van Lines for my move from SoCal to Indiana. Part of the reason was the personal attention I received from Jim of the Redlands location and they have their own trucks (not a broker like many). The estimated date of arrival was bettered by a day and even delivered on a Sunday. Due to lack of access at my new house the furniture had to be taken off the semi and put into smaller trucks. There was an additional charge which I understood. But 5 days after the delivery they refunded the additional charge back to me. Initially on moving day it was a HORRIBLE experience. The team, led by Tom, showed up on time. While doing the initial walk-through, my wife asked Tom 'Do you think it will be loaded in 3 hours'. He was visibly and verbally upset, stating that there's no way it would be done that quickly. The question was not asked to pressure them. It was only meant to ascertain a general timeline so that she could plan her day. She had a full agenda and needed to make sure that she could get several things done and then meet them on time at the other end of the move, 2+ hours away. Tom did not ask for clarification as to her intent, he just turned belligerent and confrontational...and he started to communicate in a manner and attitude that I do not believe is consistent with good customer service. Ok, so we get done with the walk-through and Tom pulls out the contract. It did not match the quote. The quote was for 3 guys at $137/hr. The contract said 4 guys at $177/hr. When I informed him that this was different than the quote he looked at me and said "just sign it". That raised my suspicions and I questioned him further. "Didn't they call you about it changing", he asked. "No they did not", I replied. He got more upset at my questioning at this point and stated that 4 guys at the higher rate was "obviously" cheaper than 3 guys at the lower rate because they will get done faster. Ok I said, that is an adequate explanation but why doesn't the contract match the quote. He said 'they should have called you'. At that point he was getting more upset, which also upset my wife and I. My wife asked him, "Tom, why are getting so feisty over this". I added, "Tom you have to understand that if a contract does not match a quote people are going to ask questions about that and that is all we are doing. If there is a problem with a customer clarifying a discrepancy then we have some real issues here". He got more upset and walked out of our house making a call to the Redlands office. 2 minutes later the crew comes in and starts taking the floor runners out. They had been ordered by Tom to pull everything up. I went outside to ask Tom what was going on, he refused to answer me. He was in the truck on the phone. I said to him "Tom, will you please come back inside and talk to us, there is no reason that we should not be able to work this out". He rolled up the window in the truck and refused to talk to me. 3 minutes later he fired it up AND DROVE AWAY with his crew, abandoning us and our move. I called Phil at the office and asked him to explain to me what Tom's problem and to inform him that he just left us hanging, having to be out of that house by contract on that day. In whose world is it ok for a company to put their needs above the customer's over what turned out to be a simple misunderstanding? By this time I was very upset and I ripped poor Phil a new one. Phil said, I'll call you back. He called back and stated that he had another driver and crew that would come back to our house once Tom's truck got back to the office. They showed up 2 hours later, causing a delay in our timeline for the day...but the crew leader Louis and the new crew were very nice and professional. We all got along and the move got done. We also appreciated how Phil handled the problem...but no one should go through such stress on top of a move. We have never been treated like that by ANY service oriented company in our lives. read more

I chose this company as they were highly recommended by someone close to me. I imagine that she knew someone who had a very good experience. Stupidly, I didn't check the yelp reviews until today. What was I thinking? I guess I wasn't. I came on here today to write a review because I wasn't happy, only to discover the bad reviews. This was my experience: Joyce takes a lot of time,#$$, and makes a big show of wrapping everything in protective plastic. Ironically, I think the protective plastic causes the movers to feel they can be a little rougher handling the furniture. I am continually finding one scratched corner, or rough feeling corner from 1 to 4 inches long on virtually every piece of furniture large and small. In the past, I saw movers not wrap the furniture but use a very padded dolly and pads between the furniture on the truck and they come out fine. I look forward to finding my wood stain markers as I unpack, as well as my fine sanding paper. I have around 10 scratched corners to sand and stain and gloss over. My house full of furniture cost $1600. to move 10 miles. I think it is conservative to say that at least 2 hours, or around $400. could have been shaved off with no wrapping and unwrapping. Know that I would not have minded paying the $400 if it would have protected my furniture. However, it only served to allow rough for treatment thus damaging my furniture. I would recommend you find a mover who uses lots of blankets and a padded dolly. read more

Joyce Moving Company was recommended to us as a good company. . . good doesn't even come close to the service we received from beginning to end! It was phenomenal! Let me begin by saying that Aaron Baldwin who set up the entire move took care of us like we were family. . .even called us on moving day to see if we were okay and everything was going well. The movers were a team of incredibly kind human beings. . Alex and his team were so professional that when we moved into our new home 7 weeks later we requested them and were blessed that they could move us in. Joyce Moving Van packed and moved my furniture from San Bernardino, CA to Phoenix, AZ and the move went very smoothly. The moving van arrived at my house at 8:00AM on the morning promised and a crew of four packed all in a day and a half. I had a large two story home with many heavy items on the second story and many fragile items on the first floor. Two days later they arrived at my townhouse in Phoenix and unpacked the many boxes in my home and garage and they carefully placed all large furniture in the desired place. I was very pleased with their service. The movers were pleasant, professional and very accommodating both in San Bernardino and in Phoenix. Items were safely moved because they had been very carefully packed. The pricing was carefully explained in advance and very fair. Moving can be a nightmare, but Joyce movers made the experience the best possible. Jim who is in charge of the operation came to my home twice and explained pricing. He accepted my credit card for the move and explained additional charges could apply after the contents moved are weighed. There were additional charges. The entire team was the best from the estimate process, to great pricing, flexibility and great service. During the move, we realized we hadn't planned for enough storage and Joyce had no problem taking the rest of our stuff to their facility for a really reasonable, I would say super inexpensive, monthly fee. When we booked them to move into our new home, we had to reschedule at the last minute due to an escrow problem. Austin , our rep, who is THE BEST, was so kind and understanding. Would not recommend this company. My move had to be broken up into 2 shipments. Both times they charged me twice for the van, saying they had a right to make money. Originally they were going to use a shuttle and then place the contents in a larger moving van. That didn't happen but they still chose to bill me twice - once for the shuttle and once for the moving van that they didn't use. I am missing boxes yet they say that isn't so. When the 2nd shipment came I told the mover boxes were missing. He took the form from me, checked off all the ones I never checked off as I didn't see them and said he delivered them. Then he told me I had to sign the form, that I had no choice as it was mandatory, but that I could still file a complaint if I felt like it. Although, he constantly said he was worried about any complaint I may have as it would come back to haunt him. I could care less about him being haunted. I filed a complaint with the company who chose to support the individual who marked up the sheet (as he was so worried that some boxes didn't arrive so he fixed the sheet to say the did arrive), and they said it was all my fault. The missing boxes were clearly marked with my address and name, and (perhaps not wisely) I had marked what the contents were, figuring unpacking would be easier for me. Sadly, the boxes were marked Lenox, Christmas, Crystal. Bad enough my Lenox that had been gifts and collected since I first got married, a Nativity my mother had made for me shortly before she passed away was also in one of those boxes. It's all gone. They refuse to pay me what I was asking for, which wasn't even what the items are actually worth. I figured into the amount some depreciation but they have not responded. I filed a complaint with the BBB but got no where. If you value your hard earned dollars, and your possessions I would look elsewhere for a mover. It is always stressful moving to another state but this company made it the worst experience of my life. Overcharged, not reimbursed for missing items (and I wasn't asking a lot), and other issues that happened that I won't go into at this time. All I can say is, once you sign the agreement to have them move you, their office in Oxford could care less about you as you are just the little guy. read more
