Peruvian food is one of my favorites and a five star Peruvian spot named Joy seemed like a sure thing. Let's just say by the time I left I was over Joy, not overjoyed. It started with no bread and Aji Verde when I sat down, which for me is the Peruvian version of showing up to a Mexican restaurant with no chips and salsa. I always look forward to that. Small thing but it set the tone. Then I ordered the Saltado de Camarón, my favorite Peruvian dish, and it was a real disappointment. Way too much thick gravy and none of that smoky flavor that a good saltado is known for. The portions were generous though, so generous that I can only assume that's what's driving the five stars. Because it certainly wasn't the flavor. Joy had a lot to live up to with that name. It didn't get there.
I stopped by to grab food to go. I live nearby and luckily this was near the workout place I was at. This is the literal definition of a hole in the wall, located next to Superior grocers. Parking is not difficult at all! Staff here were really nice. I was allowed to sit down at their dining tables while waiting for their food. I was quoted 5 mins for lomo saltado, which I thought was pretty fast. Rest of the transaction was seamless. The togo portion was enough to feed TWO PEOPLE. They pack it down with an equal amount of fries, beef, and it was saucy. The rice was just a single person portion, but luckily I have enough at home to share. Food itself was amazing with the verde aji sauce, but I do wish they gave more than one. I don't eat Peruvian often, but I'm happy to see a local shop on this part of town serving up Chifa.
I was craving for lomo saltado, and was searching for a place in the area. I found this place with great reviews, decided to come by. It is located on Garvey Ave in the same plaza of a grocery store. Parking was easy. The decoration gave me a little Asian vibes to it. The owner is a very kind man. He is very friendly and welcoming. He offered all the customers with free drinks or soda. He speaks English, Spanish, Cantonese, and mandarin. I am amazed by that. Salute. We ordered 2 lomo saltado, and it is the best lomo saltado I have had so far. He uses beef slices instead of steak chunk. However, no where I have been can beat the taste of it. The beef was tender and juice, and the fries were crispy! I will come back to support small business again!
Staff was very friendly and helpful; they speak Spanish of course. Inside the restaurant, they had about 5-6 large tables that fit probably 8 people a table. They're located on the outskirts of a plaza that is a little run down. Food is fantastic and authentic. I had some things that I love (like tallarín con carne and maracuyá) and tried some new items (like chupe de camarón and sudado pescado). Sad to say that the desserts (flan and lucuma) ran out, so maybe call in advance if that's something you're coming specifically for. What a find... not expecting this in El Monte. Pescado à la macho was good... Jalea was excellent... tartar sauce was perfect. Hubby said Lomo Saltado was good. The Maracuya was fantastic... and she refilled for free. The complimentary chips and amazing sauce were fantastic!! Service was great. Very surprised we were the only customers on a Sunday afternoon. Parking was easy. Only issue was the parking lot/area is very sketchy. Lots of homeless. But I will definitely be back. Yummmmmm
I am so pleasantly surprised about this new place! I needed food catered for a small party. I contacted them and they are newly opened so they got back to me with catering prices. Food was done on time to perfection! My whole family was very happy with our food. We ordered lomo saltado, chaufa de pollo, tallarin verde, chicken fingers and fries for the kids. Service was excellent and I plan to go back to eat at their restaurant soon!
Estaba Rico lo único que la porción del lomo saltado se nos hizo muy pequeña, y a mi esposo en lo personal se le hizo la carne muy seca pero el no especificó que se lo hicieran más jugoso, es una preferencia personal el ambiente muy relajado, Precio $$ el personal amable.
The food is amazing! We had the leche de Tigre to start - Peruvian ceviche Then we ordered the yuquita frita - Peruvian French fries Followed by the Arroz chaufa de pollo - fried rice And the lomo saltado ! Bomb ! Your green sauce is amazing ! The red sauce is really spicy but so much flavor! A MUST TRY PLACE
You know when you walk into a place and see the menu you just have a feeling it's gonna be the best food you've ever had? That's how I felt when I got here. And GOODNESS was I SO DAMN CORRECT!! We had the chupe de camaron, a shrimp and corn chowder with a delicious broth (as a soup girl I was very happy) Lomo saltado comes with white rice but they gave us fried instead because they ran out and it smelled FRICKING DELICIOUS when it arrived. The fried tomatoes and onions were made to perfection as well as the meat being incredibly favorful and the rice was fragrant and yummy. Gotta get a thesaurus out! The last dish we ordered was tallarín verde con bistec and HOLY FRICKING MOLY. I love me some pesto but this is better than any Italian restaurant I've ever been to. we haven't even finished eating and I'm already texting my friends and family saying I need to take them here. And the meat had some chopped and cooked cilantro and green onions toppings that just complemented the flavor so well And now we're about to dig into our lucuma ice cream and I'm so excited!! If you want Peruvian food, go no where else. PS The vibe and ambiance is very family style cozy The service was fantastic they really took care of us ^_^

Amazing experience from start to finish. We ordered the jalea mixta, chaufa aeropuerto, and ceviche de pescado, and every single dish was outstanding. The flavors were authentic, fresh, and perfectly balanced exactly what you want from Peruvian food. Portions were generous and the seafood was top quality. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a relaxed meal. On top of that, the service was excellent: friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back and highly recommend this place if you're craving real Peruvian cuisine. Excelente experiencia de principio a fin. I'm Ecuadorian, and I absolutely love Peruvian food. My brother told me about this place, and I truly fell in love with it! The Caldo de Pollo was an off-menu exception made just for me, which made the experience even more special. Everything was delicious, authentic, and full of flavor. I highly recommend this place. Come and enjoy this amazing food!

The restaurant was empty on Friday for lunch. I'm giving a ok rating because they claimed the tallarin verde sauce wasn't ready for lunch. That's probably one of your most popular dish and you don't have that ready before opening? That makes no sense. I ordered the chaufa Aeropuerto and shared some egg rolls. The Chaufa Aeropuerto is what you call everything but the kitchen sink. It's a combination of fried rice with chow mein together with chicken, pork, and shrimp. Pricey at $23, but it's tons of food. Joy is a small place next to a market. There is not a thing that looks special about it and it is not fancy. But once you walk in you get the scent of great food. The service is so great. I think the owner took care of us. There are a few places to sit and it is comfortable and the place is clean and nice. I think a lot of people get their food to go or have it delivered. I was happy right there. It is on Garvey Ave. All of the food we had was great and we ordered more to take home and heat up the next day. Their soups are the best and we love love and you must have lomo saltado, which has steak, red onions, tomatoes and fries. It is just so good. Their fish dishes are all good, our favorite being their poached fish fillet in an amazing fish broth. Parking is easy and the prices are super fair. read more

The food and service was great and quick! My mom's Peruvian and knows tasty food when she tries it so we decided to give this place a try. We came for lunch and shared choros a la chalaca and papa relleña. Our favorite was the choros and the papa was flavorful and a big enough portion enough to take some home. I saw this place on my way out of the grocery market next door. Was excited that there was a Peruvian restaurant so close by. Took my wife for lunch today and pricing was a bit higher than I was expecting for such a small spot. We arrived right about noon there was only one table seated and us. It took a lot longer for the food to come out, it took about 30 mins or so. The food was decent, the service was ok. The weirdest thing was when we asked for water, it sounded like they didn't serve water there. The waiter offered us their agua Fresca and when my wife said no just plain water, he gave us the weirdest look so she ended up order a coke. All in all, this might be our 1st and last time. read more

Food is average. I had the lomo saltado it was okay and the causa. Nothing to write home about. Service was mediocre and the Valentine's decor was okay. I give them a B for effort. Mr Pollo in West Covina's way better. read more

First time trying Peruvian food, and omg it is so delicious. I definitely enjoy the Lomo Saltado, where the steak strips were really juicy and the fries are crunchy. The Chupe de Cameron was a surprise, and I enjoyed the shrimp chowder. It is nice to have on a nice cozy day as it sooth the soul! The Tallarín Verde con Bistec was unique and the steak was seasoned differently than I ever had steak. The pasta was well made with spinach and basil pesto, which gives it a nice taste! Overall, I would come back again to try their other options! read more

The best lomo saltado and camaron saltado ever. The staff is so kind and welcoming. the restaurant is spotless clean. Also the portions are huge and very fresh. This is in a shopping center with lots of parking. Best Peruvian food in El Monte read more

10/10 would recommend! I got the lomo saltado with a chicha morada and it did not disappoint. This is one of the best new spots I've tried and it's down the street! We definitely will be coming back! read more

I visited this Peruvian restaurant. It has a very cozy atmosphere, very good service, great food, and compared to other restaurants, the prices of their dishes were acceptable. We ordered chicken fingers for my son and Chaufa rice. I recommend it. read more
