The lunch here is fantastic. I got the teriyaki chicken combo with dumplings and a four piece California roll on the side, and all three were five stars and not that expensive! The California roll in itself was one of the best of that staple that I've ever had, and it made me wish I had ordered a sushi roll or two. There are no inside seating options--this place is grab and go, and when I worked for the day in the Federal building a half block away, we were in and out in five minutes. Not only would I come back here, I'm excited to.

Miso soup, California Roll, sparkling water, bubly water

Free hot miso soup for the winter, it's a cute easy to walk into place, right off the G line towards downtown. Lots of Bubly flavored water flavors I hadn't seen before! Like coconut pineapple. The rice on the California roll was not quite soft enough for me, but overall food was good quality People who worked here were so nice and got me a chair when they noticed I was going to eat here. The window faces the sun when it's out and it was so enjoyable to sit there people watching and feeling the sun on my face. Also super easy kiosk to order if you have social anxiety like me

This place has gone through some changes, but have persevered and survived the covid pandemic. Honestly, I haven't been coming here a lot because there wasn't anything that real stood out to me that I couldn't get anywhere else. Until, I recently saw that they started offering the hip new inari sushi which was a huge game changer for me. Not that many sushi restaurants make these since it's a bit of a fad if I'm being truthful, but it's still very delicious. People usually come here for teriyaki and poke, but I feel like they're missing out on the inari sushi. It's a great deal and very unique that you can't really find at most places. So definitely a shock to see it offered at a random little teriyaki joint like this. They have quite a bit of variety of inari sushi and all seem to be very good options. I've tried the unagi, seared salmon, and spicy salmon. All were pretty good and easy to eat. Because it gets busy on the work days, ordering in person will cause a wait, so recommend to order online to avoid the line. This is purely a take out food spot, so there aren't any tables or chairs to squat and eat at. It's also a very small restaurant and you usually can see the line out the door. It's mostly people waiting for their order to be complete though. I know I've mostly spoke about the inari sushi, but do check out their teriyaki since most seem to come for that. I've had their Katsu Chicken and it's totally fine. Nothing to rave about, but it's the closest near my office where I can get that if it means anything to anyone. So yeah, swing by if you like teriyaki, poke, or sushi.

This used to be my go-to lunch spot. Unfortunately after a few ownership changes, I feel like the meals I get here for the price just are not that good. I ordered the karaage bento, and while the fried chicken was good, the amount of rice (a thin layer half the box) and chicken was not great. In addition the potato salad used to be creamy and delicious but this was just bland and tasteless. Overall I wouldn't go out of my way to come here anymore.

This is a small and efficient lunch spot that serves a ton of downtown office workers. We came here on a weekday lunch hour and were greeted with a line out the door. Clearly, Joy Bento has built up a good reputation locally. I ordered at a kiosk, and this was quite straightforward, though it took me a while to look at all the options. I loved that all the menu items had pictures. The food came out quickly and was quite fresh. I got the spicy chicken teriyaki bowl, which had ample chicken and a good amount of rice and veggies. In the future I'd opt for regular teriyaki, as the spice took away from the flavor. For a quick lunch, this is an amazing option!

Bit of a wait, but not too bad. A feasible lunch spot. Food was generally underwhelming. I had the "today's suggested" chicken karaage, which was lacking the distinctive garlic and ginger flavor and fried in massive pieces. I was also only given a few millimeters of sauce since I requested it on the side. No soy sauce was provided for the California roll. The gyoza were ok. My rice was kind of dry, but my friend's was perfect. My friends chicken teriyaki was really good. However, she didn't get the sauce she requested at all. Another friend said the chicken katsu was okay, but a bit dry.

huge portions, spicy pork was good, teriyaki chicken could be juicier. salad was normal, potato salad was too sweet and inadequate textural contrast. the place is really small (no seating) but you can order from a single kiosk or from the counter. on this cold day, they had free hot tea outside.

Such a great spot tucked away next to a parking garage to pick up lunch. There's no seating inside, so you'll have to take your food away. You can order at the counter or there's a self-serve kiosk that you can put an order in yourself too. I tried a nigiri bento and the seared salmon inari. Everything was so delicious and fish tasted super fresh! I'd definitely come back again another time for lunch.

    Inari (spicy salmon/spicy tuna/seared salmon/bulgogi/eel)

This is one of my go-to lunch spots! Joy bento has many good food options but chirashi bowl has been my favorite by far! Their sushi is so fresh and you can never go wrong with good sushi! If you want something on the side, I highly recommend their inari as well!

This place is perfect to grab a lunch when working in downtown Seattle. I was in the area when lunch hour hit and I didn't know where else to go! Joy Bento came up and it was recommended by Yelp so of course, I had to come and see what is up. I came around 12:45pm and there was a line. A bit of a bummer but hey, it means it's a hotspot for a cheap lunch. For $10, you can't really beat that when lunch gets pretty expensive in Seattle. I got the chicken katsu with potato salad and California rolls. My boyfriend got the salmon teriyaki with California rolls and gyoza. For the price of $9.50 each, it was well worth the wait and price. For the chicken katsu, I thought it was pretty well done because it was was crispy is in texture and the Katsu sauce was well flavored. It was a pretty standard meal with no flairs and exactly what I wanted. The potato salad was super creamy with potato bits. What was nice was that they didn't use too much mayo. The California roll was sort of bland and the rice was just ok. Boyfriend said the salmon roll was delicious as well. Flavorful and texture was perfect for the price. Don't expect this to be your top notch salmon though.. this is a good salmon for your lunch type of deal. Overall, this joint is awesome. For the location, price, and food. I think it's perfect for a lunch while working in the city. You get what you order and it's reasonably priced.

Great place, I usually come when at least once when I visit Seattle. Would highly recommend doing pick up orders during lunchtime as they get very busy. Food is delicious and great all the time!

This is a cute hole in the wall place that's really great for lunch! The flavors were good and the staff were friendly. I got the spicy pork and I definitely would go back again. The ingredients were fresh and this meal had a lot of food so I was able to have some leftovers as well.

This little hole in the wall packs a tasteful of yummy Japanese food. This hidden little gem is a family owned business with the older and younger generation cooking up a mouth full of yumminess. The dishes are a little over $10 but include two sides. There are a variety of choices and everything is made to order. I feel the price justifies the portions and I can never finish what they serve. I always order the chicken katsu and am never disappointed. The made to order dish has golden fried chicken breast that flavorful and juicy. The dish has never disappointed and with the California roll and gyoza there is more than enough food. I am so glad they are back open! It's a place to go to for your Asian comfort food. The staff there are also very friendly and helpful. I will go there again and again to treat myself to a weekly lunch.

The menu and experience differ between lunch and dinner, and this is my lunch review. Simply put, lunch is much more casual and affordable than dinner (You order lunch scanning the QR code at the table). If you're on a budget, you can eat lunch here for less than $20. I went here for lunch twice during my business trip last month and here's what I ordered: - Seafood Tofu Soup - $17.50 - A seafood soondoobu (순두부) with a generous helping of soft tofu, shrimp, mussels and clam, served with rice. Delicious, refreshing and not spicy-I bet they could make it spicy if you asked. I enjoyed the texture from the cabbage bits. - Seolleongtang (설렁탕) - $15.50 - Oxtail bone broth served with potato starch noodles and brisket, comes with salt and green onion already added(typically doesn't at other Korean restaurants). High-quality ingredients and flavor, a great comfort food with a generous serving of brisket. - Shaved ice dessert (빙수) - $9.00 - A great combination of cinnamon, ginger cream and fried rice puffs. Delicious and different than other Korean shaved ice desserts I've had that typically have red bean and overly sweet ingredients. If you're on the fence about coming here, maybe try out lunch first. Lunch is more casual, affordable and simpler than dinner, but is delicious and high-quality. You should come here for dinner too, and I'll post about my dinners here soon.

I dislike the more common 'elevated' where a restaurant makes changes such as swapping meat cuts from traditional recipes to something wagyu without any added thought or creativity in the process. Not at Paju. They are Koreans elevating Korean dishes. The dishes are refined and well-honed. Their creativity shows they know what they are doing. Plating is thoughtful. The restaurant itself is modernly elegant, great for date nights. Note the restaurant is quiet and elegant; perhaps they have a private room for loud celebrations. Staff was helpful with my questions. Food was available in a timely manner. The Food: Octopus, $27 - 5 Stars Served with smoked trout roe and dashima beurrie blanc sauce, this dish is visually attractive and absolutely delicious! One of our top dishes of the night. Paju Fried Rice, $27 - 4 Stars Cooked with kimchi, bacon, squid ink, and quail egg, this dish is one of their most popular dishes. I find squid ink to have a subtle earthy type of sea-umami flavor. The bacon and kimchi are a touch stronger in this combination. It's a good dish, but amongst our five dishes, this one ranked the lowest. Mushrooms, $23 - 5 Stars Served with parmesan cheese shaved so thin it's translucent, white kimchi, and truffle aioli, this dish is the bomb! Excellent for the mushroom lovers, it might convert mushroom haters, too. Lol. Another top dish of the night. Branzino Gui, $51 - 4 Stars Served with four banchan, this dish stands out for its execution - impeccably grilled and plated. The fish is very tender and perfectly cooked. I do think it is a bit plain for the price. Branzino is fairly common in different parts of the world. Ranked 4th for the night. Duck - 5 Stars Duck breast is served with a slice of duck and pistachio pastry plus four banchan. The duck is super tender. The pastry is clever utilizing other bits of duck meat. The simple sauce is very important, adding flavor to the pastry. Also delicious.

The staff is gracious, prompt, professional, and - I hope no one objects when I say this - rather attractive. Generous portions and reasonable prices for what you're getting. The food is nothing sort of legendary - bold flavors and dishes have the perfect balance of sweet, heat, savory, and umami. THE THORNS: None significant enough to mention. NEITHER ROSE NOR THORN: It is important to note that this place is insanely popular with the area's Korean community. The restaurant is quite busy Thursday thru Sunday, and significant waits for a table are likely. Monday thru Wednesday is your best time for going and getting a table without a wait. The price of some dishes, like their signature offering, Kalbijjim, might give you a pause ($80+). It is important to keep in mind this is made to order, and one serving can easily serve four regular appetites. If you're just a couple, you're definitely going to be taking this home with you. This is not a bad thing, as Kalbijjim is one of those dishes that is even better the next day and doesn't suffer from reheating. THE VERDICT: Daeho Kalbijjim is extremely popular, and it's not hard to see why. The execute authentic Korean cuisine pretty much flawlessly with efficient and charming service. The first time I visited, the quality of the meat cuts didn't impress me, and the soups lacked depth of flavor. I'm not talking about needing more salt--the broth itself just tasted flat. When you're paying close to $30 for a bowl of soup, I think it's reasonable to expect a higher level of quality and care to ingredients. The second visit was a mixed experience. To be fair, I was in the wrong. There is a clearly posted policy stating that your entire party must be present before being seated. My group was about seven minutes away, and since I had already checked in on Yelp and there were only two parties ahead of me with no one physically waiting, I asked if I could be seated and order while I waited. I had already been standing inside for about 10 minutes. I was told that although tables were available, seating me ahead of the other parties on the waitlist would be unfair. I understood the reasoning, but she had also asked prior for my order. Her explanation left me confused so i sheepishly said I understood the policy. She already seemed upset by the time i had gotten there. Sometimes we have off days i get that. This place is clearly hit or miss, I've got friends who absolutely swear by it. For me, though, it wasn't anything special and didn't justify the price. If you're looking for Korean food in the area, I've had better experiences with higher-quality dishes elsewhere, especially in Lynnwood.

Most recently I had the kimchi jigae, which was relatively spicy, even when I asked for less spicy (and they said they could accommodate). I'd say it was like 2-3 stars. Flavor was great though and it was a decent portion (for $17) and satisfying. Also, a pretty wide range of menu options, despite it being a small place. There were 4 complimentary banchan dishes (napa kimchi, cucumber kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, and fish cakes). The service was great and the waiter explained many of the new dishes to us herself. The food came out very fast after ordering and though there were several other tables full of groups, they also got their food out quick as well. The noise level is moderate, but the high walls on the booths and the partitions between the larger seating area and the table and booth section helps to buffer the noise pollution between the areas. The La kalbi was very flavorful and cooked to perfection. The dish came with a side bowl of rice and assorted bon chon. You could share this dish between a group of 2-3 or individually order it and be fulfilled.

I have dined here before so the interiors isn't too different just small changes. Let's jump to the food- I ordered the galbitang and it came with 10 different banchan. Which is a nice surprise since some restaurants aren't as generous in the banchan. The galbitang was so flavorful for a "clear" soup and the meat was tender. It also included a good portion of meat. I've tried galbitang at other places, but there was an umami that many didn't have. All the banchan were flavorful too, I thought the kimchi had a good balance as sometimes it can be a bit on the saltier side. Service was great too, the sever was friendly and checked often. When I went, it was just me then a couple arrived. There was a delay with their order so she provided some mandu on the house while their order was being prepared. Once they received their order, I heard the couple tell the sever that everything was very good multiple times- their food did look good! I recommend checking this place out especially with the new ownership. Menu looks similar from previous owners, but will for sure go back and try something else!
