Unfortunately the food was amazing but the service was far from it. I had ordered my family and I lunch and the order said it would arrive between 5:45 and 5:55. When 6:15 arrived and I still had no food I called the restaurant to find out the status and the woman answering the phone had an attitude & said he would be out side any second. Went for dinner on a Friday night and it was pretty empty. Just a few takeout orders and me and my friend there. The waitress was nice and recommended what to get. I got the rotisserie chicken with rice and beans and tostones. The chicken was dry,a huge amount of rice for such a little amount of beans. The tostones weren't to my liking as well. Been in the neighborhood for a few years. Tried a bunch of places around here that offer similar cuisine. Never went north toward Ridgewood. One day the Gabinator(a life long resident) told me this is where I should go. So I came and tried it out. BLOWS ALL OTHER PLACES IN THIS AREA OUT OF THE WATER. this here is authentic, fresh and quality. I knew it soon as I tried just a spoon of rice. Also when you come here, you see the patrons and you know you've found the authentic go to neighborhood spot. Also I don't speak much Spanish and they are always super nice to me. I placed my order at 7:37pm through GrubHub and did not get it until 9:24pm. It was supposed to be delivered at 8:30pm. And the website also said that it was delivered at 8:21pm...WHAT!? I made several calls asking where the food was. She kept saying that he was on his way but that he had an order that was pretty far. So why not deliver mine first then? I said so that means my food is going to be ice cold when I get it. She said don't worry...it won't be. I finally get the call at 9:24 that he was outside. I said finally! Still one of the best places in Ridgewood to get Spanish food. They are open pretty late which is great for me. Prices are great. Flavors are great. The only real issue I have is that their deliveries take FOREVER. I live less than 10 minutes away and what I order is usually the pre-made food so it shouldn't take an hour and a half to be delivered. But they are generally pretty busy so that could be why. I love my Puerto Rican food. Although this place is P.R. and Dominican. The first time I came to this restaurant, I didn't see it, I smelled it. They must have some type of vents that let the scent of food in the air for all those in the vicinity to smell. I feel pity for those that live close by. Can you imagine always smelling good food? Obviously, whoever invented it was a smart business man, Lol.. Nice way of luring customers in. I thought I was the only one who could get to this place blind folded. About the food. Well, like any Spanish restaurant , you have to eat here in order to make your own decisions about their menu. Personally, I like most of their food. The service is okay, not top notch, but decent. I've gotten friendly service when I intend to stay, but the seating area leaves a lot to be desired. It's too small. I have to squeeze into my seat in order not to touch the person behind me while they're eating. I dare not gain another 5 lbs. if I plan on eating in there. To be honest, I'd rather order out. Sometimes it does get a little loud with the music and tv on, and I'm not used to a lot of noise when I'm eating. When it's full of customers, it's even worse. Delivery is horrendous, though. You DO NOT get your food on time. It comes whenever. You have to call and make sure that they've not forgotten you. They have to work on this little problem. It can be irritating waiting for your food and your stomach doesn't understand the concept of time, if you know what I mean. At the present, this is what I'm going through. My stomach is killing me, and the food is still not here. It's been more than 45 minutes, if you want to believe this. My family and I (totally Brooklyn Puerto Ricans) eat at Jorge's so often that when we come in, the waitress brings over a Snapple for my brother and a Corona for my mom without even having to ask. That said, it should be pretty obvious that we love the place. They have some of the best Mofongo in the neighborhood (yeah, I've tried it all) and you never have to worry that they're "not making it that day," which can be a concern with some other places. Their beans are great, and even though the breaded steak and the tostones are better in my own house, they're pretty good too. If you've never had mofongo, order one (with pernil) at Jorge's and I promise you will fall in love with it like I have. The prices here are so cheap. Service at Jorge's can be a little slow and somewhat all over the place at times, but hey, welcome to a Domican restaurant, you know? The food is ok but the customer service and prices definitely gotta be changed. First I asked the girl 5 times about the sizes of rice trays because we are a company and I wanted to make sure we had enough for everybody. she told me that the tray I picked is not big at all its a medium size. Now to normal people medium size is less than full and more than small but when the food arrived magic the tray was huge! Jorges has their business strategy well setup, you walk down Seneca and palmetto and they blast you with the smell of roasted chicken in the face. you cant help it but to go inside and check out what that loud smell is all about! that's how i got hooked on them. i recently moved a few blocks away. i got off the train and passed by their window an boom! there was that awesome smell, its so good its dizzying and distracting. i went in looked at their stuff, not overly impressed with the setup (I'm Hispanic and quite familiar with restaurants of this type). However, you have to try it and you'll be presented with such rich flavors on most items. I have tried most of their stews (pig feet, ox tail, beef, chicken), their roast chicken (big fan), roast pork (they don't use a knife to get it off the bone as it falls apart), chicharron (its not the best but its good [the best so far is in WaHi]), rice and beans. All items are very good, even the white rice, which can be eaten on its own. I have eaten in a couple of times and don't enjoy too much how loud it can get in there, but when you taste the food you forget the rest. the service is a bit spotty, and i have experienced a bit of dejected service once in a while, mostly when i speak English only. i have seen people come in after me sit and get their order taken and delivered by the time i get my order placed, even if i was seated 5 minutes before they were. The staff is nice in general for take out orders though. delivery orders take a bit of time and they tend to forget to put it through when they are busy. you may call about 30 mins to see whats up with the order (i live a block away) and they may say its about to go, but i have seen them tell other customers on the phone the same thing and then they run to put the order in the kitchen. the 4 stars though are for the food, very solid good food, it makes up for the other mishaps. read more

HORRIBLE delivery & customer service! NOT WORTH IT, just to get barely lukewarm food. I got a call "Delivery", so I buzzed them in and went downstairs, except no one was there or within site. I waited a 2-3 minutes with the gate open, even in the rain, since I didn't have my phone on me and nothing. Went back upstairs called the restaurant, the first person I spoke didn't speak English so she put another person one, I explained the situation and she said she would call him. A few minutes later I get another phone call "Delivery". So I asked him if he's actually here now, but he hung up. Buzz him in again, go downstairs again, guess what?! He's just now showing up, just pulling up as I'm getting to the gate! 10 minutes after the original "Delivery" call. Apparently I was supposed to wait 10 minutes downstairs in the rain. I asked him what happened, but guess what?! "No hablo Ingles". WTF was the tip for! One reason why I hate pre-tipping. So, I called back the restaurant to let them know I got the food, but it was 10 mins after the original and asked why......I got no answer....so I asked again and no real answer no explanation, not sorry, not a single reason for me to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe this one time was weird for whatever reason, but if the food is good I'd still try again. And after all that the food was COLD, barely lukewarm in the middle of the chicken. There are so many other places than to have to put up with crap service. FIRST AND LAST ORDER!! NOT WORTH IT! Terrible customer service in person or by phone for deliver! The staff has no professionalism or Ethics in how to work with people and somehow think they are dealing with animals when talking! I have ordered for delivery for so many years and figure I would learn my lesson. ..No matter how many times I repeat the order they still get it wrong and at that the price goes up and the food is less...I called the manager and expressed how I felt in general and all he had to say was I will send what's missing. .you can't have a great restaurant good staff when the manager himself has no authority/unprofessional. The most delicious Dominican food I have ever tasted. I literally crave their food all the time ! I used to live in the area but moved about an hour and a half away, but will still travel here to eat their food. The most amazingly flavored food I've ever had that wasn't cooked by my grandmother . The pernil is finger licking good, their arroz con gandules is mouth stuffingly perfect, their alcapurrias are the bees knees, and so are their empanadas and bistec encebollado . There are so many spanish restaurants that its rare when one can stand out from the other. However this place...... it stands out. My goodness, what shouldnt you try? I usually order the Pernil with Arroz con Gandules or the carne guisada con arroz blanco (pork shoulder with rice and green beans or stewed beef with white rice). Their food is awesome. Even their breakfast is great. Whats great is that the food is very fresh and you see them bringing out fresh food constantly. They could however use some help on the pastelillos and the alcapurias because thats where they fall short. But everything is great. And the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. This Dominican repuplic restaurant under the M Train Seneca stop (corner of Seneca Ave and Palmetto) is really good. Unlike some of the reviewers here, I'm do not speak any Spanish. We only ate breakfast there a few times. The food was really good. The price was about $3 for most items. My favorite is the Spanish Omelette with Home fries + hot chocolate for $3. You can't beat that. You spent more money at McDonald's for breakfast. The place is small and cozy. The restrooms (one for Men and one for Women) are small but clean. They open very early for breakfast. I will definitely try to stop by for breakfast the next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

This was some of the tastiest spanish food I've ever had. While I've never read an entire spansih food menu to appreciate the variety, there were so many intertesting variations (beyond your basic rice n beans) on the menu. I had the wednesday special: stewed chicken over yellow rice and beans on the side, all for $5. It was a hefty plate of food, all well seasoned with a delicate balance of salt and oil. I didn't find the food to be drenched in oil, like some spanish food that I've had and the restuarant itself was clean and familial. I'd definitely go back again and try more things. The only reason I gave 3 stars instead of 4 was because I have to try more of the food to confirm whether the dishes are consistently as tasty!! read more

EDIT: I miss the former glory of Jorge's. The food is the same, but management has changed A LOT since 2012. Meal checks list prices different from the menus and no apology, or explanation for the unexpected changes. Management changes and they are not as hospitable by far to non-Spanish fluent patrons. The food might be worth it, only for take-out. Sadly, management's unfriendly disposition has made me disdain them permanently. Two stars for the food, but lost the three stars (I once rated it five stars) for management's changes. "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." Elizabeth Barrett Browning fans, don't cringe, but I can't say how much I love this place. Have been coming to this place for about 15 years and the only thing I hate about the place is I still haven't become fluent in Spanish after probably hundreds of visits. FWIW, Spanish is optional, but very helpful. I was introduced to this place 15 years ago when an old neighbor, a Dominican man, demanded I come with him one day as he was craving chicharrones de pollo: they make a great one, here. My favorite dishes here are the classic chicken soup (sopa de pollo), fried pork chops (chuletas fritas), and sancocho. And their morning mangu (boiled and mashed plantain) and delectable longaniza & yucca for breakfast (go early, as they often sell out of both by late morning). They also have a bunch of the "mofongomania" (mofongo with various different flavors) dishes which is still sort of new to me. They make a very tasty rice and a very tasty beans which should go without saying, but I've been to Latin restaurants that couldn't make a decent rice (uneven texture, too oily, or old rice!) and beans that were just awful. And for a couple of my friends that aren't comfortable with eating serious Latin food, they make some great french fries and chicken wings. And for their pernil, usually it is EXCELLENT. I've known people to special order their pernils for parties and events and believe me they are usually fabulous. Several of their entrees are kept in the hot steam table at by the entrance. Late at night, frankly those items - which also includes the pernil - might be dried out as they might be on any steam table. Also I usually either eat-in, or order take out. I've never ordered delivery from here so I can't speak to the delivery issues. read more
