More of a 3.5 rating... last time I came here was in Dec 2019, when my younger sis was visiting from Hawaii. Went with our older sis and we kept raving about how good it is here, and it has been ever since I tried it the first time about a yr ago. I'm hoping they were just having a bad day when the 3 of us went, because service was a bit slow, although the girl who was helping us was nice. Usually the servers are quick and upbeat, and there's one guy who presents your dishes in such a way that it makes it more appealing, but we sadly he wasn't there. It seemed like the 2 guys behind the counter were slackin,' because Joon himself wasn't around. Our rolls came out slow and they weren't even busy. Maybe 2 parties and a couple or two. We ordered some yellowtail nigiri and knew right away it wasn't fresh. Eew. They looked YELLOW!! And trust me when I say my sisters and I are sushi freaks, so WE KNOW!! We kindly let our server know, and she apologized and took it away, then offered us a clam pasta dish on the house to make up for it. That was nice and the dish was pretty tasty! As we were finishing up, Joon walks in and immediately looks around with a stearn face. He seemed to know they were slackin' because the look on his face said it all. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because the service is great. The staff here is always incredibly nice. My last visit, however, didn't meet my expectations. I should've known it would be a rough experience when I was informed that there's now a limit of two orders of green mussels per AYCE. *le sigh* If I'm being honest, the mussels are 80% of the reason I even go to AYCE sushi. Went to JooN's for an AYCE for lunch to try it out and we had a great time! Service from Star was great, she was attentive and very friendly. Took my dad on a sushi date cause it's been our favorite food since I was a kid, we loved the baked scallops and lobster rolls so much! I got the all you can eat and I was pleasantly surprised that the rolls were quite small so you could try out all different kinds of rolls and don't get full on rice. As I came back a few more times the rolls kept getting bigger and bigger to a point where you were pretty much full after one giant roll. Sushi was decent. But service is spotty and not attentive. Unorganized and not well communicated amongst each other. If you're out of an item that's already limited (only 1 and during dinner - halibut and uni), then you should let customers know up front so that they can make an informed decision about whether or not to stay. Tried their AYCE menu and the place was jam packed so always a good sign. But my partner quickly noticed that there were more people waiting to be served than there were of people actually eating. So made a decision to order some appetizers upfront as well. The salmon tempura was really good. Small portion for monkey balls, which I actually appreciate. Rice to sushi ratio is about average for AYCE joints. Impressed by a flaming plate of sushi but was advised by a waitress that the AYCE does not come with it. Round one had two missing items but decided that it was alright so that we had room for other nigiri that we had on mind. Finally we got to the second round and was excited for some uni. Blonde waitress came with our hand rolls and said that we'd be waiting on the uni. After waiting for quite some time, asked another waitress and she said that they were out. What?! He was unprofessional, rude, down right ASSHOLE because HE made the mistake. I know there is mayo MIXED in the Sushi so stop TRYING to justify your mistake. We said NO SPICY MAYO ON THE ROLLS, meaning none on top. I had such a blast. My family spent my Birthday with me and took me to this amazing sushi place. The food was sooo damn good! I had the golden Philadelphia for the first time and OMG I want to eat that all the time now. I got a birthday deep fried macha green tea birthday cake! Yummmm! They started blasting my favorite toons and throwing balloons. My little cousins balloons popped and a very observant employee by the name of Antonio made new balloons for them. They opened up at 4 pm, we arrived ten minutes early and had to wait, but they were prompt on letting us in and seated. We arrived with four adults and three toddlers. They have an all you can eat sushi dinner option for $33 a person. They ran out of juice for the kids menu and the ramen is spicy apparently and they can't make it not spicy so we ordered regular Japanese Uson for my nephews. Food came out fast and the lady was super accommodating to our every request. The miso soups are tiny. All the food came out pretty fast and it was all delicious. The service was good and everyone was really nice which is why I give this place 3 stars, but overall I was not too impressed with the food. The dinner was about $27 per person (before tax and tip) and the menu selection is a bit smaller compared to other AYCE restaurants. I noticed that there were fewer options of nigiri and appetizers. I was also a little disappointed to find out that they were not serving the uni that night. As it is one of the most expensive pieces on the menu, it would have been good to know in advance. However, they were nice enough to give us extra portions of the halibut in lieu of the uni. The rice to fish ratio was also really off. The rice was HUGE! It was soo filling so I didn't even want to get to the third round because I already ate the equivalent of like 3 bowls of rice by then. Also, some of the fish (tuna and yellowtail) had a bit of an overly fishy taste, indicating the sushi wasn't that fresh. I don't know what happened, but it looks like JooN's is losing it's touch. I ordered for delivery thru GrubHub ( that's another story) the Salad I ordered didn't come with dressing, the containers are low grade styrofoam; gone are hard plastic bento box. This sushi restaurant is different than what I expected. I was expecting a quiet run of the mill shopping center bar with nothing to set it apart. Maybe this should be a 5 star... When I walked in I was surprised to hear loud bar music and very enthusiastic guests. Felt like I was transported back to when I would go bar hoping. It had that type of social energy. I was greeted immediately and offered a seat or I could choose a spot at the bar. Eating alone today I chose the bar and was quickly asked if I'd like a drink and within a minute I had my water even though it was nearly full to capacity. Habit forced me to get a rainbow roll which is my custom when trying a new place. I don't use soy and wasabi until I get a feel and true taste of the rolls. The rice was cooked leaving it just a bit firm which I enjoy. Albacore and tuna were less flavorful than I had hoped and the salmon average. I had purchased the all you can eat for $21.95. Flavor and texture were about average to good for a rainbow roll. I only used soy/wasabi on a couple pieces. I also had the "Tastes like my x-girlfriend" and the Red Bull roll. Both are spicy rolls and didn't disappoint in flavor or texture and did not need anything extra to make them enjoyable. My second round was a Philadelphia roll and Sunrise. The philly needed a bit of help. Sunrise on the other hand did not. Though the fish was slightly dehydrated and didn't seem quiet as fresh. This would be a solid 5 stars if the fish was a bit fuller in flavor. Great high energy atmosphere, great service from friendly staff. I will eat here again. read more
