This restaurant sits in the basement of a building, but pretty spacious inside! We got the jajang noodles and spicy seafood soup. The portion size was decent and good for the price. Very friendly service!

It might be a little tough place to find at first but it is a whole in the wall place! Finding good jjajangmyeon is hard but I'm glad this was the first spot I chose. They give a good amount for the price too! Service may be busy but they are ran by older woman so it's fine. Their side of radish and kimchi is always so tasty every time I've visited.

Jang ban jjam bbong

Just a little update: The food here remains as good as ever and my original review from 2022 still applies. Sometimes if we have more people in our group, we like to order: #36 or #38 Jang Ban Jjam Bbong (menu item number varies if looking at restaurant menu vs online): This is the stir-fry version of jjam bbong noodle soup. It's enormous and way too big for even two people to finish unless maybe you've been trapped in a room with nothing to eat for days and you feel like could eat an entire cow at once. It's delicious, filling, full of flavor, incredible comfort food, even intimidating for me to think about the quantity of food.

This place is pretty secluded at the basement of a building. The atmosphere really reminds me of a korean chinese restaurant in korea. The food is very good and authentic. Not too greasy and not too salty. Portion was more than enough. The noodles were chewy with a lot of flavor in the sauce. The soup had a kick and matched well with the black bean noodles. Service is what you would expect from a Korean restaurant. Glad I was able to find this hole in the wall. Definitely planning to go back.

Fried Dumplings, Pork Tang Soo Yook, fried rice combo

More of a 3.5, but I'll round up. Joongmi is a true hole-in-the-wall - you definitely have to know what you're looking for when you pull into the parking lot! My friend was craving their jjajang myun so we came here for dinner. We pulled up to the restaurant and with the blacked out windows, I thought they were closed. Fortunately, my friend knew they were located in the basement, and their "Open" sign was lit up. We headed down to the basement and it had an old cafeteria-type feel. They have lots of food posters on their wall if you don't know what to get - a lot of their offerings looked tasty and they have several mix-and-match/combo options. Their chicken wings poster was hanging above my head and they looked delicious! Their bibimbap bowl also caught my eye. Once we were seated, we were served the banchan: Kim chi, radish, and raw onion. They also served us our drinks. I got iced water but they also have a hot barley water option. For my entree, I wanted to try several things so I opted for the tang soo yook (sweet and sour pork), fried rice, and fried dumplings combo (~$20). Our food did seem to take an above average amount of time, but to be fair, we ordered several different combo dishes, so there was understandably more complexity for cooking the entrees. The entree servings were pretty filling, which justifies the price point. Out of the three dishes I selected, I enjoyed the sweet and sour pork the most. The pork was crispy and the sweet and sour sauce had a good flavor without being too sweet. The pieces at the bottom of the bowl did get soggy sitting in the sauce, so you should try to eat it quickly. The fried rice was pretty standard but could've used a bit more seasoning; it paired well with the sweet and sour sauce from the pork. My least favorite was the fried dumplings; this was the dish I was most looking forward to but found them to be the least impressive. The wrapper was pretty doughy and the filling was bland. It really needed to be dipped in the soy sauce. (Fortunately, they do have extra sauces on the table to jazz up your dishes on your own accord.) My entree also came with a spicy soup, but I'm weak sauce when it comes to spice and it was too spicy for me... but my friends were able to enjoy it! Service was adequate. I wasn't expecting much service based on the ambiance, but drinks were refilled as desired and we even got a banchan refill without having to ask. You definitely won't stumble on this place, so be sure to seek out Joongmi for authentic Korean food in Annandale.

Undercooked and RAW DOUGH

This is one of the worst Korean restaurants I've ever ordered from the pancakes are so thick that I thought I ordered the wrong dish, but it was the pancakes and its like an inch thick: everything we ordered was wrong. It was just... I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Undercooked and raw dough..*kimchi was also sour or rotting!*

A solid hidden gem in annadale. in the basement of a building but the food is legit. The chinese korean style noodles and food is so good. The service here is fast and friendly. Its not the very best but for the price the quality, the food is bomb. You know its good that there plenty of people that know of the place and you'd never know this place existed. My go to spot for noodles.

This place is located in the basement of a business building. Its entrance almost looks hidden. I got the black bean noodles and seafood soup (jja jang myun and jam bong) combo. It came with little bonchons on the side. I believe the soups are made to order because it took some time to come and the food was piping hot! Both dishes were phenomenal. The food is hands down 4 starts. The location is weird but not terrible. The service was average but again not terrible. There is plenty of seating inside. They seem to make a lot of to go orders.

Combination Fried rice, Jam bong
Michelle B.

Hands down the best Jjamppong in the area, it's deep in flavor, rich broth, and such a good assortment of seafood! I love that they have combo options and even do a triple combo with the fried rice, Jjamppong, and the Jjangmyeon! The staff is nice and quick! The restaurant itself is hidden (in a basement) and the tables are sticky. I won't lie to you it's a little run down and dingy BUT the food is so good you can ignore it

Can try 3 different dishes when dining in

Carry out of jjam pong and Korean sweet & sour pork. They do half/half. And the 5 piece fried dumplings. Some places don't even do half/half on weekends dining in. It's better than any of the KoChi restaurants in the area I've tried. This place is underrated.

I'm thinking that many people who come here know already what they want, because even before we cracked open our menus, the server was immediately at our table expecting us to place our order. When we told her we weren't ready yet, she left, but came back less than a minute later and then stood there waiting for us to place our order. So I ordered the Sullangtang, which is bone broth with brisket and noodles. JP ordered the Yukgaejang, a spicy red broth with veggies and flank steak. We also ordered the fried dumplings. I don't know if the fried dumplings were vegetable or pork, but they were very good, made even better with a delicious dipping sauce. As hoped, banchan was served with our meal, but was just cubes of daikon radish (kkakdugi) and kimchi. The kkakdugi and kimchi were fresh and tasty. Even if the Sullantang recipe is traditional, I was disappointed. The broth was thin and very bland. However, I was able to jazz it up and make it into a pretty good soup by adding spoonfuls of the Yukgaejang broth and the fried dumpling sauce, plus salt and pepper. The Yukgaejang, topped with crispy noodles, was the better of the two soups. It had a lively flavor and as billed on the menu, was indeed spicy. The menu is limited, almost exclusively vegetable and beef dishes, but there is a seafood pancake and whelk (mollusk) dish. No chicken or pork dishes. Overall, our experience was decent and we would certainly consider returning. Shin Chon has plenty of off-street parking.

We ordered a spread: gyoza with sweet and spicy sauce, kimchi pancakes, fried shrimp, soy garlic wings, takoyaki, LA galbi, and jjampong with noodles... plus way too many drinks. We arrived early and scored prime seats by the bar, which turned out to be perfect, especially once the night shifted into more of a club vibe with a DJ. The energy was great, and most of the food was surprisingly delicious -- everything hit except the jjampong. We were expecting udon noodles, but it came with thin, clear noodles instead, and the flavor was a bit off for us. That said, the staff handled everything perfectly, and it didn't take away from the rest of the experience. Between the food, drinks, and nightlife atmosphere, we had an awesome time and will definitely be back.
