I was craving for clay pot rice while visiting Chinatown so we stopped by here for an early lunch. Ordering was easily done on the kiosk. Food came out pretty quickly after ordering. We ordered a small roasted pig, veggies, and a preserved meat clay pot rice. Everything tasted really fresh and good. However I was a little disappointed the claypot rice did not have any crispy parts on the bottom. Overall a pretty good lunch though. The price was also very affordable.

Ambiance - super casual, great for lunch Service - keep in mind it will take about 15 min for your food to be ready, highly recommend eating there while it's steaming hot Food - meat was well marinated, rice was crunchy

Hidden inside a Chinese supermarket, this spot is a true gem for comforting and affordable claypot rice. For just around $30, we enjoyed a full meal without needing to worry about tips -- amazing value! We tried the Chinese sausage claypot rice, which came sizzling hot with that perfect crispy bottom layer of rice that makes claypot so special. The sausage was savory and slightly sweet, balancing beautifully with the soy sauce drizzled on top. On the side, we had a plate of blanched Chinese greens with oyster sauce -- fresh, vibrant, and a nice contrast to the rich rice. The meal also came with a simple but warm and satisfying soup, which felt very homey. To top it off, we ordered crispy pork belly, which had that beautiful crunchy skin and tender meat underneath. It paired really well with the dipping sauce provided. Overall, the food was delicious, filling, and reminded me of classic home-style Chinese comfort food. Definitely a place I'd come back to again and again for a casual and satisfying meal.

Just the taste of it, super 5 stars, the chinese sausage and ribs claypot rice was sooo delicious, each time I visit Chicago i come to this place, so legit and super delicious, i will come back again and again. The lady at the counter was so sweet, gave me extra soup, the 老火汤 was super good as well, absolutely love this place, i appreciate small restaurants like this bring back my taste memories from childhood and provide quality food.

More of a 3.5 than a 4 but I'll round up because there's potential. We came here for lunch today. You order, bring the ticket to the cashier in the front of the grocery store to pay and bring it back to the restaurant. There's quite a few tables and you can wander the grocery store or bakery nearby to spend the time. Boy got pork spare rib, Chinese sausage and roast pork claypot rice. I'm not a fan of the Chinese sausage because it has that type of cooking wine or alcohol taste I'm not a fan of. I got bbq pork and duck. The duck pieces weren't particularly meaty and the bbq pork wasn't tender. However, I really enjoyed the soup appetizer and the crunchy rice bits with the soy sauce? Delicious. We'll prob come back for only pork spare rib and try out the beef version. They also seem to sell some type of soup or noodle dish.

Classic clay pot flavors that brings back memories here a Jonny's. Located in the back of a grocery store with many items to choose from as my favorite is the Chinese sausage and pork for $13. Pick a seat and they will bring it to your table. Suggestion to confirm you get the crispiest rice, let the rice sit for a few minutes before pouring sweet soy in your rice. No frills but you get a great meal. Highly recommend and free parking. They close at 7pm but you can sit until 8 as the grocery store is closed at that time.

I love a good authentic clay pot rice. This location is nestled in a supermarket outside of Chinatown. I love how smoky and perfectly crispy the rice is. It is well balanced and comes with a side of soup. It is made to order and you can taste the quality and the freshness with each piping clay pot. There are many options to choose from. My favorite was the one with pork belly. I really enjoyed this location and appreciate the genuineness and hospitality from the chefs.

They have now moved locations to the second floor of 88 Market! The quality remains the same and everything is still fresh and delicious!

Authentic made to order Taishan claypot rice can be found in Chicago near the entrance of the food court on the 2nd floor of 88 Market! I enjoyed the tasty and fresh pig tongue claypot rice and the complimentary soup which was perfect for warming me up during this bitterly cold winter. Note there is a 3% surcharge for credit card payments, but for under $15, this meal is great cost performance and is more than enough food to satisfy me. Come early, because it does get packed during peak meal hours.

I had my second delightful experience with claypot rice! They offered complimentary soup, which was a nice touch. The dish was cooked perfectly, and the lady serving was incredibly friendly. She even offered extra soup, although it wasn't needed since the claypot was already filled with plenty of rice and meat. The crispy bottom was especially delicious. Overall, I rate it a perfect 10/10! fyi if you're wondering where's the soy sauce it's in the tea pots you may need to go to a different table to borrow. Also the food really didn't need any extra but I enjoyed it.

I love Jonny Claypot Rice! It's a hole-in-the-wall food stall located within the Park to Shop grocery store on Canal and they serve some delicious claypot rice with delicious crisped rice at the bottom of the pot, done right! Three of us stopped in to give this place a try with a plan to share our dishes, since this would be the first stop of a Chinatown food tour we were doing with our friend from out of town. There were plenty of menus with pictures by food stall that make for easy ordering. We ordered: * claypot rice with bbq pork and fried pork (comes with complimentary soup of the day) * side of gai lan We came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. I am not 100% of their exact hours, but I know on weeknights their last call for dinner is around 6:30pm. Trust me, my husband and I tried to eat here several times before. We would drive into Chinatown after work and stop in, to be told that were either already closed or had already served their last customers. So a tip for folks wanting to grab some claypot for dinner, come EARLY! We played it safe and came on a Sunday afternoon :) and we were so glad to finally be able to try it. The rice was so flavorful and it's really a no frills place. It's straightforward, you order at the stall and sit down at any available tables. It's self-serve / "fast casual" and oh so incredibly good. I think about going back to this spot almost weekly. Their soup of the day was very flavorful and although I can't put a name to the ingredients in it (maybe someone on the internet / Yelp Community knows), it was so comforting and served in those styrofoam take-out bowls that have such nostalgia for me when eating lunch in Chinatown as a kid. My only tip here is to check the hours and/or come early on a weeknight (no later than 6pm), since their opening hours might change. Plus, you can pick up any groceries on your way out and there are no concerns with parking (for the drivers out there). While it might be harder to get to via public transportation, there are plenty of parking spots in their lot and this store is a lot less crowded than the others right in the heart of Chinatown. Those are wins in my book. You've got to try Jonny Claypot! I'm on IG: @gratuitousgourmande

I was excited to try this place because I saw it on Yelp. It's definitely a very lowkey place - it's a stall in the Park to Shop on Canal Street (not to be confused with the other 2 Park to Shops in the area lol). There's a parking lot for car folks, but I just walked over from the Red Line. They mostly speak Chinese, but there are photos of the different claypot rices on the menu. You might have some trouble (I did, but a nice customer translated for me) if you pick one where you can choose a few toppings. I got the bbq pork (chashu) and roast duck toppings. It was good and came out pretty quickly, along with a comfy complimentary soup. It's a good portion for the price point ($11ish for the bowl).

The staff did not speak English but they pointed me to a kiosk where I could place my order. I got the combo with Chinese sausage and duck. My bowl took fifteen minutes but arrived very hot and fresh. The sausage was good and the duck was savory. The duck meat was a little tough, and there were bone bits in almost every bite--very unpleasant. The rice tasted great though, albeit a little oily. The best part was scraping off the charred bottom of the rice and enjoying the crunchiness. Next time I'd pass on the duck.

MingHin was packed, loud, and a little chaotic. Worth it. Dim sum is an experience as much as a meal and MingHin delivers on both fronts. We ordered more than we could keep track of. Soup dumplings that immediately became the kids' personal obsession. Shu mai that hit every time. BBQ pork buns in every form they offered because obviously. Chinese broccoli to balance out the indulgence. Everything was solid, fresh, and exactly what you want from a dim sum spread. The room was packed and buzzing but the service kept up impressively. Servers were constantly circling, clearing empty plates and dishes without missing a beat. Clean and attentive even at full capacity, which is no small thing. Fair warning if you are bringing little ones: this environment is a lot. The noise, the crowd, the overwhelming parade of food arriving at the table. Our kids loved what they ate but the sensory experience was a bit much for them. This is a place better suited for a group of adventurous adults or older kids who thrive in high energy environments. My only nitpick is that I personally prefer a thicker, chewier dumpling wrapper. The Dan Dan Noodles were the standout. Creamy, nutty, crunchy from the peanuts, packed with flavor, and not overly spicy. It was my first time trying dan dan noodles and now I totally understand the hype. 8/10. The Xian Bing took about 25 minutes to come out, which makes sense since they're made fresh. The lamb filling was flavorful and the outside was super crispy, almost like a scallion pancake. Overall, this felt like authentic, comforting food that leaves you completely satisfied when you walk out. It's crazy it's completely died down by the time we were finished with our meal. The service was great, the interior decor was beautiful and the staff was friendly. The dim sum offered for brunch was good as well but pricey. Especially since some dishes were only offered with two pieces. If you have a party of three then you're kind of forced into buying two of the same dishes. Which is strange. Traditionally most dim sum dishes have three pieces. Rarely see 2 pieces being offered especially for double the price. We ordered their Jiaozi, Char Sui Bao, crab Rangoon, chilly chilli noodles, and their Xiang long Bao. All were great. The chilly chilli noodles is served cold and was very flavorful. The Xiang Kong Bao was amazing. The potstickers was probably my favorite dish and it's mess up char Sui Bao.
