I love Jojo! I didn't know about the food cart until this brick-and-mortar opened up in my neighborhood. Trust me though, this place is GOOD. So good that we got it twice in one week when they first opened. LOL! My go-to is the SPICY FRIED TOFU SANDWICH. It is SPICYYY with a capital "S", so beware! My spice tolerance isn't thatttt high, but I still like a kick. I'm usually sweating bullets after the first few bites, but it's so good that I'll keep going. Also, the serving size is massive. I can't eat the entire sandwich unless I haven't eaten all day and I come in hangry. Most times, I am only able to eat half of it and take the other half to eat at a later time. We also usually order the CHEDDAR LOADED JOJOS. Again, the serving size is huge, so please prepare to share. When it first opened, this place was popping with a long waitlist. What a find. We were in Portland visiting and happen to be downtown when I looked on yelp for a place to eat lunch. We decided on JoJo's and are so happy we did. I got the crunchy salad with the grilled chicken thigh and that's shallot vinaigrette is bangin'! That salad was very simple but I wanted to drink the dressing lol. The rest of our group got smashed burgers which they enjoyed as well. We did not get any JoJo's but we saw them at other tables and they looked amazing, but a full meal on its own. We've been going to this place since it opened, and maybe it's always been during the day, when the staff is more energized(?) We came in at 8pm on Saturday night (they close at 10p), and there were no table settings out on the table, they were bringing in the outside signs, and rolling up the carpets, BEFORE we received our food. The first time I went, I had full service at the table, and the second time I went, it was set up to order at the counter and take a number. We sat at a picnic table outside because it was a nice evening. On this recent visit with my husband, I ordered the club hopper cocktail and it was quite tasty (islandy feel). We ordered the following to share: - a spicy fried chicken sandwich (the pepper relish is pretty spicy, so beware if you can't handle much - I love spice, so it's great for me!) a mr. onion cheeseburger (it was decent. I've had a couple of smash burgers lately and I think I'm just not much of a fan of this style burger in general) - a regular order of plain jojos (crispy, crunchy goodness! My husband doesn't like potatoes to be too potatoey, so if they aren't crunchy, he's not interested and he like this a lot). The food was all delicious and came out very quickly. There was a small mix-up with our order, and we were given the southern fried chicken sandwich instead of the spicy fried chicken sandwich. We ordered the Mr. Onion Chicken Sandwich, the Jojo's regular, the pb&j cheesecake, the peach berry cobbler, and the Bluecoco sodie. Overall we spent about $45. We enjoyed everything except the desserts. The cobbler was very hard and salty and the cheesecake's peanut butter sauce was not very good. I think this place is much better known for their delicious sandwiches and potato wedges. The inside has plentiful seating, low lighting, and real plants decorating the ceilings. We arrived at 7:30pm on a Monday, it was not crowded and we spent two hours eating and talking. The street parking was free after 7pm, and there were many open spaces. A new year, a new office, time to try out Jojo across the street. I admit I was a bit apprehensive as the prices are on the high side, especially for lunch. $6 for jojos? It's potatoes. However, it was worth it. The atmosphere was very cozy with lots of dark wood. It's counter service and it's slow, but very friendly. They do automatically add a tip. I'm still on a kick of less meat so I got the TBR, which is a fried tofu sandwich with ranch and vegan bacon. It was every bit as tasty as a chicken sammie, with a huge piece of well seasoned, deep fried tofu. Add the sauce, lettuce, pickles and it was super delish! The vegan bacon was very flavorful. My friends got the southern fried chicken sandwich and the Mr. Onion chicken sandwich. They raved about them and they were both large and tasty looking. The jojos are excellent, I'm from the south and the are the best I've ever had. Think thick potato wedges, seasoned, battered and fried. Sooooo good! We arrived around 2pm on a Saturday, but it wasn't until ~40 min later that we were seated. Parking around the area is easy to find. We did notice that other businesses were vacated/ moving out of the area because of theft(?!) While we were waiting we walked over to Nossa Familia Coffee (there's not much seating there). Service was pretty slow and our waitress wasn't super attentive. There's a 20% required tip with no expectation to pay beyond that. So I am still one of those pesky pandemic conscious folks that chooses to live outside. As a visitor to Portland I knew this would be a challenge. But I found this place and it's highly detailed vegan menu, along w non vegan. And outdoor tables. Heck yes! Unfortunately- what were the designers of the buildings thinking? (Not the restaurant's fault!) they made the tiniest little overhang when they could have just made something covering the sidewalk and this the tables! Anyways we still decide to still eat outside as the sprinkles began. Wait staff was gracious and playful with our slightly wet decision. The onions fried tofu sandwich was so freaking good!! Huge! On GF bun if requested! Almost had a catfish feel. One of the best vegan gf sandwiches I've had in awhile. What was ordered: December's employee special: PB&J fried chicken sandwich - If this was regularly on the menu, I'd have to add it to my normal rotation when visiting Portland (next to Killer Burger's PB and pickle burger). The chicken was perfectly fried. It had a light batter and juicy interior with the perfect balance of condiments and bun to complement it. Vegan spicy loaded jojos - Jojos are their name for potato wedges and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the vegan toppings were. The potatos on their own are also delicious. Beware that this comes in a huge portion and is meant for sharing! Grilled chicken tenders - Had a bite of my friend's chicken tenders and they were on the dry side, especially in contrast with my chicken sandwich. Popcorn Tofu - Neutral on this one. I can't stop thinking about this southern fried tofu sandwich. How often can a vegetarian get a good, fried sandwich? I think the last time I did was when I still ate meat. The flavors, the textures, everything, perfect. I added some hot sauce to my sandwich and it was absolutely perfect. The right amount of vinegar, fried crisp, balance of flavor. I am totally telling everyone I know about this. I'm blown away. The Peach Please was also really good. It tasted less like POG than I imagined considering it was made with POG juice, but in all fairness it is called the PEACH please. The service was good and everyone was friendly.
