Wisdom Tooth Removal experience? 10/10. I'm a scairdy cat. I know...everyone gets nervous. But I'm next level ridiculous. The front office staff, dental assistants, and Dr. Andre Barakat, were all so sweet, and gentle. They have brand new equipment, and relaxing scenes playing on a TV. Dr. Andre patiently talked me through everything. His demeanor is very calming and he got the offending tooth out in about 30 minutes, with no pain. (He numbs your gums first, so you never even feel the Novocain shot.) The pre-procedure panic, was replaced with relief and gratitude for their patience and kindness, and I couldn't stop myself from asking the dental assistant if I could give her a hug. She said yes, but in addition to being a big baby, I'm also a spazz, and I tripped over a little trash can next to the chair. So between that, and the lingering high emotions from being scared, I don't know if I ever did hug her. LOL. (I would have run around the office hugging everyone, but I had embarrassed myself enough for one day, and promptly went home.) As soon as I got home, I took OTC pain meds, figuring I better get ahead of things before the Novocain wore off. I went to bed, woke up the next morning and didn't need any pain relievers at all. If you're scared, and putting off a dental procedure, just call their office and make an appointment. They will take great care of you! read more

Dr. Barakat was great with my 10 year old grandson, who visited him for the first time recently. Dr. Barakat made a quick and easy connection to my grandson, who is typically a very, very anxious dental patient, but now wants to see Dr. Barakat again, when that time comes. Dr. Barakat's dental assistant was absolutely perfect for my grandson!!!! I wish I had gotten her name to mention it here. She's a true gem!! She kept him in conversation, joked with him and explained every move. My grandson wants her again, also. read more

Talk about excellent customer service! The dental team here are knowledgable, patient, and gentle with their care. I have a lifelong dental fear and Dr. Barakat is so respectful and gentle. They really took care of my teeth here and did an amazing job. I mean, my teeth were quite literally broken, but looked brand new afterwards. I do believe they also do cosmetic dentistry here, which is probably why their work was so gorgeous! The office staff are also very kind and helpful!!!! They're friendly and super communicative, actively going out of their way to ensure my insurance takes care of the service. I'm new to NorCal so I was confused and worried about my insurance but they were so nice and took care of everything for me. They do accept Medi-Cal here! As someone who freaks out over dental stuff-- Dr. Barakat's skilled care, the knowledgeable assistants, and the compassion of the office staff all made this experience so much better. I wouldn't recommend this dentist based on my experience. During one visit, he worked on four of my teeth -- the treatment felt rushed and quite painful. Six months later, those teeth are still hurting, even though I had no issues with them before. He also accidentally chipped a small piece off my front tooth, then just filed it down and said it was fine. I've always been a bit anxious about dental visits, and unfortunately, this experience made that fear even worse. I waited six months before seeing another dentist, but the pain became too much -- now I rely on painkillers just to get through the day. I finally found a Dentist office I feel great about going to. John Baraket DDS has a fantastic office. His staff is friendly, professional, and works incredibly well together. I am not one to go to the dentist regularly so when I do go, I know there will be some work to be done. Don't understand how this office could get anything less than a five star. They were patient with me even though I was like overly disorganized and couldn't get anything together for my appointment, and was late haha! The dentist is amazing too and so was the dental assistant. They were both friendly, calming, caring. Both seemed genuinely interested in what I was saying and my concerns. Reviewed my chart and made me feel super secure the entire time like they were actually listening to me and made me seem like he was doing the best treatment for me, while not trying to do anything excessive that I really didn't need. He explains the procedure, before he begins, answers questions, and checks in with you, during the procedure. I switched jobs a year ago and had to find a new dentist. Dr. Barakat accepted my insurance, and I'm very thankful I found his practice. He has an amazing way to talk to patients and make them feel comfortable. He's super humble, explains exactly what's going on with my dental health and why he wants to do certain things (root canal vs a deep filling), but ultimately empowered me to help with the decision. Where to start? I moved to Carmichael back in Aug, but had not been to a dentist in well over 2 years. With the constant moving it was always hard to find a dentist I would like, and wasn't keen on trying to find a new one, since I believed that I wouldn't find the right dentist who would make me feel comfortable. Well, I was very wrong! Lets start with the office staff being friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Right when I walk through the door and up to the counter, they are attentive and helping make sure I get checked in. Always on top of making sure paperwork, financing, scheduling is taken care of. Dr. Barakat and his assistants are top 5% in my book. From the very first session, to the deep cleaning, every step of the way, he made it so that I always felt comfortable, or as close as can be. Kept me informed of what he was doing through the process, and gave motivation while cleaning or to continue with my treatments. I can honestly say I am glad that I found Dr. Barakat, and hope that he remains my primary dentist for many more years, now that I've settled roots in this town. I have had my teeth worked on quite a bit in my life so I am always a bit skeptical of dentists. The Barakats got me in quickly and got right to work. I was able to get my concerns addressed within a week and back on track. They didn't sugarcoat it and didn't try to coerce me into any procedures that weren't necessary. Moved to Carmichael a few months ago with LOTS of dental work needed to be done. Past dental offices would start on the work but have 2-3 month waiting periods in between appointments. Dr. Barakat and his staff have a sense of making you feel like a priority patient and also know that life and work get in the way and will work with your schedule on appointments. With all the work I needed, not once have I left his office feeling insecure as they always make you feel comfortable. Not to mention, I am also pregnant. I rarely write reviews but I think it is important for this as it might help someone that is in the same position as I was. If I could give more stars I would. The best dentist I ever been to! Growing up I was always susceptible to getting cavities and had a few fillings as a youth (done by a dentist that was very aggressive) in my 20's I suffered from anxiety, lacked health insurance at times and all in all just didn't take care of my health. I moved to Sacramento two years ago and was nervous about finding a dentist, especially one who excepts Medicare. Since then Dr. Barakat (both father and son) have been amazing. I usually see the son, who is always in a great mood, patient, very gentle, and clean. He has helped prioritize my issues and created a plan to get my mouth back on track. For the first time in my life I want to take care of my teeth and don't mind going to the dentist. Other notes.... -takes Medicare -I have never had a long wait, usually no wait at all. -parking lot with enough space.... Handicap Accessible. -office staff is friendly and on point. -* I saw in another comment where someone had an issue about being in another room with another patient (there is a room with two chairs but has a large divide that you can't see them)..... if this is a concern they have another fully private room, maybe you can request that. read more

AMAZING Doctor and an even more AMAZING human I hadn't been to the dentist for about 4 years (tsk tsk, I know, but single mom life means you shift what is "necessary expenses" and that usually means....No Care For You!! Haha! (said in a Seinfeld soup man voice!) But, due to tooth pain I could no longer avoid it. I visited a dentist in downtown Sacramento (lovely 16th story view from the dentist chair) who promptly shamed me for my lack of dental hygiene and then said she needed to send me to get a root canal before she could do anything else (She literally shook her head in dismay, then caught herself and apologized!!....too late, I see your truth and will NOT help you pay your lease ). The root canal couldn't be done for Two days (...the receptionist called to book it for me while I stood there holding my face). There was no offer of pain medication or antibiotics. The dentist told me that I would have to return after I was done with the root canal for a crown and she would "try" to save another tooth she didn't think could be saved... The root canal visit turned into a sales pitch using fear factor verbiage where I was told I would need an ADDITIONAL TWO, aside from the ONE that I was there for (and this is a glimpse into why I had been avoiding the needed visit....I mean, who wants to be in pain, scared and then told that it is going to cost hundreds of dollars to take away the pain...especially when you don't know if you can afford it). I just nodded and said I'd have to return another time for the unexpected dire services and to please just complete the ONE that I was there for. (I was given a cost of OVER $1,800 dollars!!!---some cost covered by insurance of course, but out of pocket for me would have been approx. $700 for all the "NEEDED" work!) So, after the procedure I called Dr. Barakat's office to schedule the crown and told the receptionist that I had been told I may need additional root canals. (There was no way I was going back to the other dentist and I had previously been a patient of Dr. Barakat...years ago.....pre-mommy )The receptionist said they would do their own Ex-rays and go from there. October 31st (what better day to go right!) I find myself sitting in the waiting room mentally preparing myself for the sticker shock. Dr. Barakat is AMAZING! First he says he will have to extract one tooth...he couldn't save it. No maybes, just upfront truth. And then he says that I have two CAVITIES that he'll have to fill......NO MENTION of a root canal!!!!....hmmm.... As we're talking, he's having his staff check my remaining coverage for the year and then, based on the info, comes back with a plan of action that will help to SAVE ME MONEY!! (I should mention that I had my 4 year old with me due to unforeseen circumstances and the entire staff were so accommodating and kind!! Even rustled up a balloon that the Doctor filled with his dentist tool) The game plan was as follows: -Take antibiotics due to inflammation/gum disease and return November 8th for the extraction. (WOW btw...I visited Two separate dentist and NEITHER one prescribed me anything for the gum disease) -Return November 14th to remove the extraction stitches and for TWO cavities to be FILLED....no root canal!!hmmmm...... -Then, return January 7th and 8th (new year = restored FULL dental benefits) for crown and deep cleaning. And now....the heart warming, touch your soul stuff---- While I was so happy with how the visit was panning our...THE MOST MEMORABLE and heartwarming moment for me was when my son and I were leaving and he asked the Doctor, "hey what's your name?" And Dr. Barakat knelt down to his level, reached out his hand and said "my name is John. What is yours sweetheart?" My heart melted. My son is like any other 4 year old....rambunctious and fidgety and there were a couple of moments during the Ex-ray and oral exam where I was SO embarrassed because he was trying to get into EVERYTHING!! (everyone remained kind and patient, more so than I Hahaha!) But at the end of the "patience trying ordeal", for Dr. Barakat to kneel down, and with NO arrogance, impatience or annoyance, introduce himself as John, not Doctor or Dr. Barakat....well THAT moment is why you who are reading this review find me here; writing this VERY lengthy one. I'm happy to report that my return visit for the extraction (w/o the kiddo) was a success and my most recent visit for the cavities filling procedure was smooth and pain free too!! My out of pocket cost was $50.00 dollars!!!! ---That's two cavities (with the pretty white "natural tooth" color) and one wisdom tooth SURGICSextraction (that was NOT wanting to say farewell to my mouth btw!! Haha!!) In conclusion, I look forward to my new year NEW ME visit for the crown, deep cleaning and radiant smile! And I WILL be more diligent with my regular office visits....all because of Dr. Barakat, a professional and skilled dentist that is a most importantly, a good human read more

I'm really sad to give such a negative review to someone who, judging by these other reviews, seems like a lovely person, but it feels like the responsible thing to do given my experience (as it relates to Covid). I'm in a particularly strict bubble (high risk family members), and was sure to ask a bunch of questions about the office's Covid safety policies before coming in. I was told, first off, that there are separate rooms, with doors that close, for each patient. When I was first led into the room I'd be seen in, I noticed that the doors to both rooms were open (the rooms are right across a fairly narrow hall from each other). In asking the dental assistant if we could close the door, she seemed inconvenienced, and expressed that they'd then need to open and close the door when they go in and out. I think she ultimately would have done it, but I left before the opportunity arose, because when I looked across the hall, I noticed that the doctor was sitting and talking to the other patient with his mask dangling from one ear. The patient was also without a mask, and my guess is that their faces were a foot or so apart. I was really disappointed and surprised to see that. I've been wracking my brain for a reason that could explain that behavior and make it okay, but I'm at a total loss. Also -- there are several doctors who work at this office, and I couldn't find photos of any of them, so I'm really hoping I'm leaving this review on the right dentist's yelp! read more

My wife had a some negative reaction to a root canal that was done a month before we relocated in the Sacramento area. Since going back to the original DDS was not a viable solution we were wondering who, where, and what. Fortunately, a new neighbor was a retired DDS and highly recommended we contact Dr. Barakat. What we discovered is a highly trained DDS. One look at her problem and he knew there was a need for a a 3-D image from a specialist. A personal phone call from Dr. Barakat was made for the emergency. After imagining was completed a plan was determine to solve the problem. Options were openly discussed. A plan was determined and we moved forward towards a solution. Dr. Barakat is comprehensive, compassionate, and knowledgeable. He sees his patients as people and not as $$$. His staff is helpful. What a great place! Usually the visit to the dentist is not my favorite. And I have always dreaded those visits for a long time. However this office changed that for me. Starting form the get go, the front office ladies were very nice and helpful and gained my trust. No gimmicks. No insurance hassle. No annoying reminder phone calls to come in and use up all your insurance $ before the end of the year. I've fallen for the "free tooth whitening kit with appointment" before. Never again! I found Dr. Barakat via Google and was hesitant as I like to get referrals. However, I had taken my daughter to two other dentists for their opinions for treatment and Dr. Barakat echoed what needed to be done. The office is pleasant (Time, Parents, More, Car & Driver, National Geographic mags) with a flat screen TV showing the Animal Channel. My daughter wasn't too thrilled watching that before sitting in the dentist's chair however as the programs tended to be things like: "I Shouldn't Be Alive" and "Monsters Inside Me". Not exactly the most relaxing programs to watch before getting fillings. Annnnyway, the women that work there are very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. Daughter needed work done ASAP and they were able to get all of her work done in three visits within a week! The toy box has some nice things too! Rhinestone hair clips, headbands, and of course the usual toothbrush/toothpaste kits. As for Dr. Barakat, he is gentle, thorough and trustworthy. The last two fillings daughter needed (she is 8), she didn't even want or need Novocaine as the procedures were handled so gently. He takes all types of insurance including Delta Dental PPO and Medi-Cal. read more

I'm reviewing because we based our selection on a dentist on reviews we found online - and its too bad there are no reviews for Dr B here so I'm going to write one. I started seeing Dr B in December, after not having dental coverage for about 3 years. It turned out I had 5 cavities which we took care of over three separate visits between then and yesterday. Dr B is a great dentist and all of the ladies there, both behind the receptionist desk and assisting during procedures, are great too. All my cavities were taken care of with a minimum of discomfort, and Dr B seems to be great with kids from what I've observed. I much prefer going to a small dentist office than a big conglomerate - I know that's what some people look for but there's no need to. I do recommend this dentist, I don't think you will regret it if you choose him. :) read more

Dr Barakat is by far one of the best dentist I've had the pleasure of incountering. I had received a recommendation to visit his practice after a really bad experience with a previous dentist performing a root cancel incorrectly. I went in and he took a look at my tooth only to tell me the same thing an endontoist did. His experience and knowledge is impeccable. He explained the process and performed my surgery with ease.
