This restaurant is located in the 'food court' of Whaler's Village, on the bottom floor of the mall. The seating area has booths inside and tables outside. The menu is heavily Filipino and asian influenced combined with a local Hawaiian-style mix plate. We ordered: - Lumpia - Adobo Fried Rice - Half Short Rib / Half Katsu with rice and mac salad Everything was excellent. The short rib was falling apart. The katsu was really crispy. Definitely went to the wrong location because there are two. This one is in a mall food court... for a mall food court, the food was fine but wasn't anything to rave about. I wouldn't intentionally go back. They didn't have the dishes that yelp raves about.. we ordered the salmon which was decent- didn't look wild caught... we also tried the Mac n cheese which was overwhelmed with cheese-- not a good balance between cheese and noodles... Joey's Kitchen is located in the food court in Whaler's Village. It's alongside a row of other fast food chains. I waited about 15 minutes for the food since they cook it as soon as you order. I got the Kapalua Pork plate which came with shredded pork mixed with cabbage, rice, and macaroni salad. Don't forget about the sauces! read more

This review is for breakfast only. I got the eggs, garlic fried rice, and tocino bacon. The portion was right on point and the bacon was the best meat I have ever had in my entire life. My husband got the buttermilk pancakes. Three huge pancakes, topped with mac nut and bananas. It came with a side of caramel sugar syrup and I just about died of happiness when I tried it. That Kalua pork BBQ sandwich is what dreams are made of. For $11, you get a HUGE heaping of tender, juicy pulled pork squished in between two pieces of plush brioche that I'm pretty sure is pan-seared with butter for extra flavor and that slight browned crunch. There's nothing else in the sandwich aside from pork and carbs, and there's nothing else you need. The platter also comes with thin crunchy fries and a shredded cabbage salad, the latter of which tastes even better with pieces of pulled pork. My fiance got the $18 garlic shrimp platter with 5 pieces of buttery garlicky shrimp atop shredded cabbage salad with sides of sauteed vegetables and rice. That butter, mm mm mm. I wish they gave more than 5 pieces for $18 though. My vote? That Kalua BBQ pork sandwich. Great bang for your buck, and it tastes hella bomb too. read more

I have been to Joey's kitchen twice and both times food has been very good and flavorful. Today I tried the garlic chicken which comes with crispy pieces of chicken drizzled in creamy saracha and some other sauce,macaroni salad and rice. Came here on our first night in Maui. Prices were decent but the dishes we ordered were just okay. Hawaiian plate- came with a scoop of Mac salad, scoop of white rice, a laulau and kalua pork. Man everything on this was pretty bland. Even the rice was bland. I don't even know how that happens. The pork wasn't dry, it was kindaaa tender. But seriously both pork proteins on it lacked seasoning. The Mac salad was light, and bland. We literally had to throw everything with the fried rice and ate it together. Fried Rice - $8 served for about 1.5 people maybe. It was flavorful and had pork stir fried in it. This dish was wayyy better and flavored than the Hawaiian plate. It kinda saved our dinner. Joey's was our bastion for more reasonably priced Hawaiian food around the Ka'anapali beach area. Located within Whaler's Village, they offer all your typical Hawaiian style dishes and even some desserts. I ate here for breakfast and for dinner and was pretty satisfied with my meals. The loco moco I had for breakfast had a very lean ground beef patty. It was cooked to medium temperature but wasn't very tender since it was so lean. I did like the gravy and over easy eggs though. The Hawaiian plate I had for dinner was decent. It included lau lau, kalua pork, lomi lomi tomato and a scoop of rice. The lau lau was fatty, flavorful leaf-wrapped goodness. While the kalua pork was too salty for my tastes I liked the lomi lomi tomato as a side to go with the rest of the meat I had. I would have liked an extra scoop of rice to go with all the meat though. I tried some katsu chicken and beef short rib as well. The katsu chicken had an excellent crispy outer coating and I liked the sweet-savory marinade for the short ribs and tender texture. If I were to choose between the two plates I would get the katsu/beef combo over the Hawaiian plate next time. I also tried some haupia here ($3.95). It was reminiscent of Chinese style almond jelly, except using coconut instead of almond. I loved the creamy coconut flavor. If you are staying near the beach at one of the hotels nearby I recommend this option if you are wanting more casual eats but still want to experience a taste of the islands. Food is authentic Filipino and very easy to appreciate. I had the crispy pata which is like the German schnitzel but 10X better than any from the beer gardens around Mariaplatz in Munich. The skin is crunchy & with a texture unlike say cochinilla from Segovia. The meat is tender & moist. It's easy to overcook the dish but the 3 crispy patas we got we're just perfect. We were excited about this place after a long drive since the reviews were pretty good but this was definitely our least favorite meal of our week in Maui. My Ahi Tuna Poke was insanely salted. I'm not sure why it had to be salted to begin with, but it was not enjoyable at all. My husband had the Kalua Pork and Cabbage dish which was okay, but also salty. It's located within a food court, and unfortunately I have to say they serve the quality of basic food court food. Their seats are also old and falling apart. There is outdoor seating though. So when I decided to try it, I noticed for one that the price was still a little steep for to-go food. I went with the furikake seared ahi for 21.95. Too expensive for small portions. I was interested in trying the short rib but apparently the menu has changed and it is no longer being offered. we ordered the fresh fish and coconut shrimp mixed plate and the bbq kalua pork sandwich. there appeared to be only one employee behind the counter so service was a little slower, even though we came around 4:30pm. Coconut shrimp was SO good, but pretty standard for coconut shrimp in the area. Fresh fish was swordfish (?) and cooked very well, served with salsa, mac salad, and fresh rice. Kalua pork sandwich was the standout- flavor was perfect and not too oily, there were a few fatty pieces that we pulled out but otherwise it was the most flavorful item we got. it came with a huge pile of fries and cole slaw. definitely come here if you're looking for good, reasonably priced food in the shopping center- don't go to the subway or pizza place next door!! read more

Walked down the beach to this location since our Sheraton has little food due to a hotel workers strike. Glad we found it. Down in a little food court area in the Whalers Village shopping area. Had a number of basic selections for breakfast. My wife had 2 eggs over easy with home fries and sausage. Eggs were done excellent but really skimpy on the sausage with only 3 small slices of sausage. I had a veggie omelette which was outstanding. Packed full of fresh veggies and I had home fries as well which were excellent. Food was hot and fresh. Salsa is Costco brand organic salsa but still quite good since I like that salsa regularly. It appears they have a lot of other lunch and dinner selections as well so if the hotel strike continues I am sure we will be back again. read more
